Senate Sex Tape Rumors Lead To Firing Of Accused Aide

Allegations that a congressional staffer filmed a sex tape in a room of the US Senate have gone viral online. The claim was first made by The Daily Caller, a right-wing news outlet founded by Tucker Carlson. The outlet claims to have received video evidence of two men engaging in anal sex in the judiciary committee hearing room. The video was allegedly first “shared in a private group for gay men in politics” before one of the group’s members seemingly leaked it to The Daily Caller.

While The Daily Caller blurred the faces of the two men involved, other right-wing outlets were less discerning. One of the men was reportedly identified as Aidan Maese-Czeropski, an aide to Maryland Senator Ben Cardin. However, Maese-Czeropski has denied any involvement. “This has been a difficult time for me, as I have been attacked for who I love to pursue a political agenda. While some of my actions in the past have shown poor judgement, I love my job and would never disrespect my workplace. Any attempts to characterize my actions otherwise are fabricated and I will be exploring what legal options are available to me in these matters,” Maese-Czeropski wrote on LinkedIn. Despite this, Senator Cardin’s office told Politico that Maese-Czeropski “is no longer employed by the U.S. Senate.”

George Santos Now Making Thousands On Cameo

Meanwhile, another disgraced Hill member doesn’t appear to be doing too badly for himself. George Santos, recently expelled Congressman, reportedly makes thousands of dollars daily from requests on the app, Cameo. Earlier this month, Santos became the sixth member of Congress in history to be expelled. Furthermore, Santos was the first Republican to be formally expelled and the first representative to be expelled since 2002. The last member of Congress to be expelled was Ohio Democrat James Traficant, who had been convicted on bribery charges. A majority of Republicans voted to keep Santos in Congress. However, just enough Republicans sided with the Democrats to remove Santos.

George Santos was expelled from Congress as a result of a 319-114 vote on the House floor. The size of the majority far exceeded the two-thirds majority needed to expel a member of the House. It came nearly a year after reports first emerged suggesting that Santos had lied extensively on his resume and misappropriated campaign funds. However, Santos has consistently maintained his innocence and claimed that the allegations were merely unsubstantiated attacks by Democrats. Despite this, things only continued to get worse over the course of 2023 for Santos, who became the embarrassment of the Republican Party in Congress. The speaker of the house, Mike Johnson, was one of the Republicans who voted to keep Santos in office.

Senator Dianne Feinstein Dies At 90

Senator Dianne Feinstein has died at the age of 90. Per a statement from her office, Feinstein died at home in Washington DC on the evening of September 28. Feinstein had served as one of California’s senators since 1992 and had previously served as the Mayor of San Francisco between 1978 and 1988. “Senator Feinstein never back away from a fight for what was just and right. At the same time, she was always willing to work with anyone, even those she disagreed with, if it meant bettering the lives of Californians or the betterment of our nation,” the statement from her office read.

However, Feinstein’s health had been declining over the past several years, causing her to spend increasing amount of time away from Washington. This led the senator to face increasingly vocal calls for her to resign given the slim majoirty that the Democrats held in the Senate. While she refused to step down, she did announce earlier this year that she would not be seeking re-election in 2024. This has led to a fierce and wide-ranging Democratic primary for the vacant seat.

Feinstein Remembered By Colleagues

Meanwhile, flowers were placed on Feinstein’s seat in the Senate chambers. The Senate is expected to honor Feinstein when the chamber meets to continue budget talks in hopes of avoiding a government shutdown this weekend.

Dwyane Wade On Being Approached About Running For Office: “I Have A Role As An American Citizen”

During a recent interview with the New York Times‘ Sopan Deb, Dwyane Wade discussed a potential career pivot. Apparently, he’s been approached about running for political office, and may even be considering it. In May, it was reported that donors were eyeballing some NBA players to run for seats in Florida’s Senate. It would be an attempt to help Florida, which has leaned red in recent years, gain some strong Democratic representation.

At the time, it was said that Dwyane Wade and Grant Hill had “rocketed to the top of the recruitment lists for some Florida Democrats looking for a strong candidate.” Up until recently, however, it was unclear whether or not Wade had actually been approached about the situation. Now, he confirmed that he has been. “I mean, it’s just conversation,” he told Deb. “‘Hey, you would be good for,’ ‘Hey, we can see you in,’ ‘We would love to have you in.’“

Dwyane Wade Says He Doesn’t “Play The Politician Games”

I don’t know a lot about it.” Though Wade may not as well-versed in politics as his potential competitors, he’s a major figure who’d certainly pique the attention of voters. He’s also received a lot of praise for his outward support of his daughter Zaya, who’s trans.

It appears as though Wade might actually be considering the idea of running for office, telling Deb that he has an opportunity that others don’t. “I also understand that I have a role as an American citizen and as a known person to be able to highlight and speak on things that other people may not be able to,” Wade says. “They don’t have the opportunity to do this.”

Dwyane Wade & Grant Hill Reportedly Being Considered For Senate Races

Dwyane Wade is someone who has been thrust into the political limelight. Overall, this isn’t necessarily because he wants to get into politics. It’s actually because he is a good father to his transgender daughter Zaya. D-Wade and Gabrielle Union have been accepting of her identity, which has subsequently led to criticism. Additionally, the Wade’s have decided to leave Florida due to the anti-trans laws that plague the state.

However, Wade could be coaxed back to Florida as he is now being considered as a potential Senate candidate. According to Uproxx, there are various Democratic donors and officials who think a big name like Wade could challenge Rick Scott in the Senate. Although this feels like a long shot, there are some people out there who want to see this happen. If anything, Wade could help pass legislation that is more favorable towards trans people.

“Dwyane Wade is a Florida legend, whose leadership past and present has a lot of folks in our state sending feelers out,” Democratic donor Ray Paultre said. “We have seen former athletes, in both parties, bring something special to the political landscape. He hasn’t been officially approached, but he is on the list of four or five dream candidates to challenge Rick Scott.” Moreover, there is also some fanfare around Grant Hill. One donor even said that the former NBA player could raise a whole lot of money.

It isn’t like it would be the first time that celebrities have ran for some type of office. However, neither Hill nor Dwyane Wade have actually voiced any intentions to run. For now, some donors are simply thinking about how they can win back Florida, which has become more right-wing than ever before. Minnesota Senate Votes to Legalize Recreational Marijuana

The legalization of marijuana in the United States remains a topic of debate amongst the House of Representatives as well as the US population. For Minnesota, this debate has come to a conclusion. On Friday, the Minnesota Senate voted to legalize the recreational use of marijuana. The Democrats have been able to make major advances in the state of Minnesota. Additionally, The passing of this bill will allow adults 21 or older to use marijuana, This would equate to the US laws of alcohol as well as purchasing cigarettes.

Recently, the state has made major advances toward political issues such as abortion laws, clean energy, children’s school lunch funding, as well as rights for convicted felons to become registered voters. The democratic lead House of Representatives was able to persuade the entire House of as well as the state to push these bills into motion. Tim Walz has been the governor of Minnesota since 2019. He supported the move calling it a “transformative moment” for the state highlighting the redemption of people who have lost their rights in Republican-led states.

Furthermore, President Joe Biden has announced a plan to pardon federal marijuana offenses for smaller possession. This past October, Biden’s announcement was motivated by clearing the criminal records of former and current inmates. “No one should be in jail just for using or possessing marijuana,” he said. “It’s legal in many states, and criminal records for marijuana possession have led to needless barriers to employment, housing, and educational opportunities,” he added.

Minnesota is on track to becoming the 23rd state in the United States to legalize the use of marijuana for recreational purposes. U.S. Senate Addresses Ticketmaster In Hearing After Taylor Swift Debacle

A United States Senate Judiciary Subcommittee convened on Tuesday to discuss Ticketmaster and its hold over the ticket sales industry. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Mike Lee took lead on the investigation which asked questions about ticket sales, monopolization, resale markets, and more.

“To have a strong capitalist system, you have to have competition,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar said. “You can’t have too much consolidation — something that, unfortunately for this country, as an ode to Taylor Swift, I will say, we know ‘all too well.’”

Sen. Richard Blumenthal told Live Nation’s CFO, “Ticketmaster ought to look in the mirror, and say, ‘I’m the problem, it’s me’”

Criticism of Ticketmaster and Live Nation came from both sides of the aisle.

“I am not against big, per say. I am against dumb,” Republican Sen. John Kennedy told a Live Nation executive. “The way your company handled ticket sales for Ms. Swift was a debacle.”

Senators have mentioned a number of ticket sales for high-profile musicians during the hearing. Among them are Bruce Springsteen, Bruno Mars, Prince, Bad Bunny, Madonna, and more.

Perhaps the most important name mentioned was Taylor Swift. It was the complete failure of Ticketmaster to handle the sales of her Eras Tour that inspired the Senate investigation.

“The solutions are there for the taking,” Klobuchar said near the end of the hearing.

Senators To Introduce New Legislation “Kids Online Safety Act”

Two U.S. senators will introduce a bill today that would protect children online. The “Kids Online Safety Act” is co-sponsored by Democrat Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and Republican Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee.

The bill would require social media platforms to provide parents with tools to protect their children from harmful content online, including sexual exploitation, bullying and product recommendations.

“The “Kids Online Safety Act” would finally give kids and their parents the tools and safeguards they need to protect against toxic content—and hold Big Tech accountable for deeply dangerous algorithms.

Algorithms driven by eyeballs and dollars will no longer hold sway. I will fight for swift passage alongside Senator Blackburn, my partner in this effort,” Blumenthal said in a statement.

The introduction of this bill follows the Facebook whistleblower whom released internal company documents that showed the dangerous effects of algorithms used in marketing online.

According to The Hill, the legislation would require platforms to limit the ability of individuals to contact or find a minor, as well as prevent individuals from viewing a minor’s personal data collected by or shared on the platform. It would also require minors to have an option to opt-out of algorithmic recommendation systems and establish a duty of care for platforms to prevent and mitigate harm to minors, including the promotion of self-harm, suicide, eating disorders and substance abuse.
