Kendrick Lamar Reaches Yet Another Impressive Milestone With “GNX”

Late last month, Kendrick Lamar shocked the world by unleashing his new album GNX without warning. Unsurprisingly, the project has since been a major success and continues to receive praise from the Compton rapper’s fans and peers. It sold a whopping 319K album-equivalent units in its first week, per HITS Daily Double, and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart. It was the fifth No. 1 album of his career and the sixth-biggest debut week for an album in 2024. Several tracks from the project are also topping the charts, such as “squabble up,” “tv off,” and “luther.”

Now, the LP has reached yet another impressive milestone. According to Chart Data on X, GNX has gone gold, officially selling over 500K album-equivalent units in the United States. The outlet also notes that if Kendrick’s hit Drake diss track “Not Like Us” had been included on the album, it would have been platinum by now, surpassing 1 million units sold.

Kendrick Lamar’s New Album GNX Sells Over 500K Units In The U.S.

This marks yet another addition to Kendrick’s long list of wins this year, which only continues to grow. Earlier this week, for example, he announced his upcoming “Grand National” tour alongside SZA. The duo will kick things off in April of next year with a performance in Minneapolis before moving on to shows at 18 other stadiums across North America. They even recently added a second date in Drake’s home city of Toronto. It’s rumored that Doechii could potentially join them, though this is unconfirmed.

On top of touring next year, Kendrick is also set to headline the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show in February. The show will take place in New Orleans and sparked a great deal of backlash from Lil Wayne fans once it was announced, which Kendrick addressed on his track “wacced out murals.”

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Sees Huge Sales Increase Amid Drake & UMG’s Legal Battle

It’s no secret that it’s been a big year for Kendrick Lamar. The Compton hitmaker came out on top in his viral lyrical battle against Drake and found tremendous success with his diss tracks. He went on to host his “Pop Out” in Los Angeles alongside several of his celebrity peers. Earlier this month, he even dropped a new album with zero notice, which has quickly become a fan favorite.

GNX is projected to sell between 310K and 325K in its first week, exceeding fans’ initial expectations. Eight songs from the album are also expected to land in the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 song chart. “Squabble Up” could even potentially come in at No. 1. This isn’t the only work of his blowing up these days, however. Amid all of this, it looks like fans are also looking back on some of the music he released earlier this year. This includes his Drizzy diss track “Not Like Us.” According to Talk Of The Charts On X, it’s expected to see roughly a 440% increase in U.S. sales and a 20% increase in U.S. streams this week.

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Expected To See 440% Sales Increase & 20% Streaming Increase In The U.S. This Week

This timing doesn’t necessarily come as a surprise, but it certainly is interesting. On top of Kendrick’s GNX release bringing more attention to his discography as a whole, Drake recently took legal action against Universal Music Group (UMG) over the song. He accuses the label and Spotify of artificially boosting it and alleges that UMG could have prevented its release.

Of course, this has earned big reactions from fans and critics alike. Some think Drake really has a chance of looking like a hero by exposing alleged corruption in the music industry. Others claim this simply makes him look worse, and like he could just be jealous of the success of Kendrick’s new album.

DJ Akademiks Blames Drake For Boosting Kendrick Lamar’s “GNX” Sales

Earlier this month, Kendrick Lamar dropped his new album GNX by surprise. So far, the project has been a major success. In fact, eight songs from the project are expected to land in the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 song chart, with “squabble up” potentially coming in at No. 1. It’s also reportedly projected to have sold between 310K and 325K in its first week, exceeding fans’ initial predictions.

Just days after the album arrived, Drake decided to take legal action against Universal Music Group (UMG). He alleges that the label could have prevented the release of Kendrick’s diss track “Not Like Us,” in which the Compton rapper accuses him of being a pedophile. He also accuses UMG and Spotify of artificially boosting the song. Unsurprisingly, this has earned mixed reactions. While some are siding with Drizzy, others think this has just made him look worse. According to DJ Akademiks, it could have even ended up working out in Kendrick’s favor.

Kendrick Lamar’s First-Week Sales Projections Leave DJ Akademiks Concerned

During a recent stream, Ak reacted to Kendrick’s first-week sales projections, arguing that the legal filing helped bring even more attention to the album. “I told y’all that f*ckin’ lawsuit was the f*ckin’ worse timing,” he said. The internet personality continued, claiming that Drake fans need a win, such as Kendrick’s album selling less than Drake’s last release did in its first week. “We need a win right now, and the win is that that n***a in his biggest moment ever, can’t f*ck with Drake,” he explained. “We did 400K. He can’t f*ck with us, we different. Okay? He’s getting a little bit close, so I’m gonna stop talking about it right now.”

During the same stream, Akademiks issued a warning to Drake amid his legal battle with UMG, arguing that it could have one of two outcomes. He claims that one possibility is the music industry changing forever after getting exposed for alleged, and another is Drake getting “violated” in court.

Kendrick Lamar “GNX” Sales Projections Continue To Skyrocket

The massive commercial success of Kendrick Lamar’s GNX should come as no surprise, even if its release was just that. After all, he’s one of the biggest rappers in the game and just came off of a championship year following his victorious battle with Drake. But even the most hardcore K.Dot fans thought that his first week sales projections for this new album would stay steady at just under the 300K album-equivalent units mark. However, according to new reports, the album’s sales projections now indicate numbers between 310K and 325K first week, which is very interesting news. It seems like more and more people are tuning in and revisiting the tracklist.

Also, we assume that physical sales for GNX also contribute to these new projections, and will likely maintain some solid momentum for the LP in the weeks to come. Also, Kendrick Lamar might land multiple cuts off the album on the Billboard Hot 100 amid a lot of streaming success and radio play, although it’s far too early to tell at this point. Maybe some fans are just reaching with the numbers, but either way, the project’s performed very well.

Kendrick Lamar’s Updated GNX Sales Projections

Of course, any conversation around Kendrick Lamar and sales right now has a whole lot of baggage and legal tension behind it. Drake filed a petition that basically announced plans to sue Universal Music Group and Spotify for allegedly colluding to artificially boost the sales of “Not Like Us,” which the Toronto rapper claims also makes their label (as he and Kendrick are both on UMG) and the streaming service liable for defamation. It’s a pretty anti-hip-hop move in the traditional sense and an anti-industry benchmark in another, but neither excuse fully explains the controversy behind it.

But that whole debacle falls outside of the scope of Kendrick Lamar’s GNX, a project that its collaborators like Peysoh are very excited to reflect on. Fans are loving it, it’s making a big splash, and it hasn’t even been out a week yet. It’s been an amazing year to be a Kendrick Lamar fan, and with his Super Bowl halftime show coming soon, it might be an amazing 2025, too.

Travis Scott Makes Mind-Melting History With “Circus Maximus Tour”

Travis Scott has been doing some incredible things for hip-hop in 2024 despite not dropping any new music. His fans have been benefitting especially after the reissue of his sought-after 2014 mixtape, DAYS BEFORE RODEO. It made its way onto streaming platforms, vinyls, and dropped off multiple digital deluxe versions in the process as well. All of these different ways of purchasing the project eventually got him to number one on the Billboard Hot 200 chart. Another older release of his, ASTROWORLD, also made some noise this year thanks to tying a record held by Cardi B. Since the end of August, it’s just the second album to have every song go platinum.

However, it hasn’t just been his back catalog that’s kept him in the headlines. Several Nike and Jordan shoe collaborations are also either in the works or are going to be out soon. Performance wise, he’s been hitting stages across the country and all over the globe including Australia and Brazil. All of this and more has gotten him recognized by BET and Billboard for awards on awards. The latter especially is recognizing him a bunch of categories, which include Top Rap Artist, Top Male Rap Artist, and Top Rap Touring Artist.

Travis Scott’s Utopia Era Has Been Epic

The latter is the one we want to focus on exclusively because this latest record made by his Circus Maximus Tour may earn him this award. According to Billboard and multiple reports, Travis Scott now holds the record for the highest grossing tour for a solo rapper. He made a lucrative amount of money, raking in over $209.3 million. Obviously, to make a lot of dough you have to sell a ton of tickets and this one did.

1.7 million people attended one show or more after going on two legs with some special venues thrown in for good measure. Scott is competing with Nicki Minaj and the $uicideboy$, so he’s definitely got some stiff competition. It should be a tight race overall and it’s going to have us on the edge of our seats for a little while. The Billboard Music Awards don’t arrive until December 12 at 8:00 p.m. local time.

Tyler, The Creator Sold More Vinyl Records Than Any Other Rapper In 2023

While the large majority of music listeners use streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music as their primary source for listening to music new and old, there are alternatives. For big music fans out there they can own physical copies of their favorite albums on CD or vinyl. This week, Chart Data shared some numbers about how many Vinyl copies of their music artists sold in 2023. As you’d expect one of the most popular artists in the world, Taylor Swift, led the way. She led by quite a large margin with other reports claiming that one in every 15 vinyl records purchased in 2023 was of Swift’s music.

Coming in second place is Lana Del Rey, who dropped her new album Did you know that there’s a tunnel under ocean blvd early last year. Coming in at third as both the highest selling rapper and highest selling male artist on vinyl in 2023 is Tyler, The Creator. Much of that likely comes from CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST: The Estate Sale a deluxe edition of his 2021 album that dropped last year. Vinyl sales and streams of the deluxe version when it dropped caused the album to skyrocket back up to the top of the Billboard 200. Tyler is doubling down on his vinyl success after also leading the way among all rappers in 2022.

Tyler, The Creator Tops Hip-Hop Vinyl Sales Again

Tyler, The Creator wasn’t the only rapper to churn out a ton of vinyl sales in 2023 thought. Travis Scott turns up at number four on the list largely on the back of his new record UTOPIA. Both Kendrick Lamar and Mac Miller also cracked the top 10 for total vinyl sales in 2023. Elsewhere in the top 10 are artists like Olivia Rodrigo, Metallica, Fleetwood Mac, and more.

Tyler, The Creator was recently confirmed to be part of one of the biggest music festivals around. Earlier this week Coachella announced the lineup for their 2024 edition and Tyler isn’t just performing there, he’s headlining. What do you think of Tyler, The Creator leading all other rappers in vinyl sales for the second year in a row? Let us know in the comment section below.

City Girls Sell 10K Units First Week For “RAW” Amid Claims They Fumbled The Bag

City Girls’ official first week sales for their new album RAW are here, and at least its debut isn’t as bad as people thought it would be, although it’s still surely disappointing and disheartening. Moreover, they sold 10K album-equivalent units in its first week, making their chart entrance at No. 117 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. People initially thought it would be 6K based on projections, which caused media figures to clown the Miami duo. However, they had plenty to express on the matter, and did so recently during their appearance on The Breakfast Club. While sales don’t really matter at the end of the day, it’s easy to say that as a fan, and not as an artist trying to reach many people with your art.

It’s tough times,” JT of the City Girls explained to the radio show’s hosts. “You get what you put in, in this s**t. And I feel like, collectively, we didn’t do what we had to do to promote the album. But if you don’t go hard with promoting your s**t, and putting it in people’s face, it’s like, of course it’s going to miss people.”

City Girls’ RAW‘s First Week Sales Are Here

“Right now, stunting ain’t cool, because people broke,” JT continued, who’s coming out with a solo album soon. “I feel like we have a bad timing thing. I feel like our timing, and our management, is poor. We’ve got poor management, poor timing- like, it’s really never no strategy. We just out here, like, why the f**k are we at The Breakfast Club a week after our thing dropped?” Overall, these are very important questions to ask, and it’s crucial to identify that the City Girls took some responsibility but also looked at factors external to them.

Whatever happened here, it’s clear that they’re somewhat unbothered by these jokes, but still recognize that they need a different approach. Whether that has to do with their team or their own choices is a question that will surely dominate their next planning moves. But one flop doesn’t necessarily make you irrelevant, and as a huge group online and at festivals, they’ll need to really bounce back with something special. On that note, check back in with HNHH for more updates and the latest news on the City Girls.

“I don’t a lot of people don’t want to hear this, but rap music is down 40%,” he began. “Check the charts. Check the math. What are we, as rappers, producers, composers, going to do about this shit. Because it’s down 40% this year. Do your research. This is a fact.”

A lot of y’all need to relearn what art is then you may be able to create something of value.” Another added: “Sales down but streams aint. Yall gotta demand more from these streaming services. Doja Cat’s “Scarlet” Sales Projection Jumps To Over 60k

Doja Cat’s fourth studio album, Scarlet, is now projected to move between 60,000-70,000 units in its first week, according to HitsDailyDouble. The bump is reportedly being bolstered by her “Agora Hills” track, which has climbed up to No. 6 on the Spotify U.S. chart and is following a similar trajectory on Apple Music. Even so, the new album likely won’t reach the top of the Billboard 200.

The figure is also a far cry from her previous effort, Planet Her, which debuted with 109,000 units and a spot at No. 2 on the chart when it released in 2021. Prior to that, Doja’s debut studio album, Amala, peaked at No. 138 in 2018 while her sophomore effort, Hot Pink, reached as high as No. 9.
