Bobby Shmurda And Rowdy Rebel Are Finally Getting To Tour Together

Here’s a “strange, but true” fact that is truly wild to think about: Despite being famous since they were just barely in their 20s, Bobby Shmurda and Rowdy Rebel have never gone on tour. The reason for this: In December 2014, at the height of the mania for Bobby’s hit “Hot N****,” Bobby, Rowdy, and the rest of their crew, GS9, were arrested and charged for gang activity under the RICO Act. In 2016, both rappers took plea deals in exchange for five and six-year sentences, respectively, effectively curtailing their thrilling rise to stardom.

Both were released recently and have had an inspiring comeback that was unfortunately marred by label conflict on Bobby’s side, leading to him splitting from Epic Records and striking out independently with Roc Nation. However, they aren’t letting their newly split-label situation stop them from finally having the triumphant tour they always deserved. This week, they announced their upcoming tour, the Bodmon Tour, with Bobby as headliner supported by Rowdy (oddly enough, Rowdy’s actually the only one to have dropped his full-length debut, Rebel Vs. Rowdy, which he did in July, although Bobby dropped the Bodboy EP in August).

The two New Yorkers are making up for lost time, setting out in Maine in October and running through December in Fort Lauderdale, FL. You can check out the dates below.

Rowdy Rebel Drops 'Paid Off' Video Featuring Fivio Foreign

Rowdy Rebel has dropped the new music video for “Paid Off,” featuring Fivio Foreign.

The video, which was directed by Rowdy’s frequent partner G Train Productions, may be his most action-packed presentation to yet. He, Fivio, and two female accomplices in masks carry off a high-stakes, large-scale bank robbery. As the police realize what is going on, the action continues, leaving them in the dust.

You can see the full video below.

Rowdy Rebel And Fivio Foreign Pull A Perfect Heist In Their Frenetic ‘Paid Off’ Video

No matter who they are or where they’re from, rappers love a good heist movie. Bank robberies form the foundation music videos from rappers from all over the map, from Atlantans like 21 Savage and Gunna to Memphians Key Glock and NLE Choppa, Californians like Nipsey Hussle and YG, and even Brits like Skepta. So when New Yorkers Rowdy Rebel and Fivio Foreign hold up a financial establishment in the video for “Paid Off” from Rowdy’s debut album Rowdy Vs. Rebel, they’re contributing to a long, proud tradition of would-be outlaws doing their best Public Enemies impression.

Decked out in all-black Nike tech fleece sweatsuits — ’tis the season, now we can really start dressin’ — with matching Nike ski caps, the two John Dillingers menace the customers and staff with long guns while their scantily-clad accomplices tote pistols and harlequin masks. I suppose there are no worries about picking those booties out of a lineup — especially since Rowdy and Fivio are apparently in that class of rappers whose idea of a happy ending is the robbers getting away scot-free at the end.

Rowdy is clearly having a lot of fun with this whole “free from prison” thing. Now he only plays a criminal on TV, which seems a lot less risky. You can catch Rowdy (if you can) in his video above.

Rowdy Rebel Pays Homage To ‘New York’ With A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie And Jadakiss

Rowdy Rebel’s debut album, Rowdy Vs. Rebel, is out now on Epic Records. Its release is accompanied by the video for “New York,” an anthemic ode to Rowdy’s hometown, which includes a pair of fellow Big Apple dwellers: A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and Yonkers legend Jadakiss.

Over a cavernous beat backed by skittering snares and a chest-thumping kick drum, the three rappers toast the big city, detailing their conquests and tribulations — which they naturally attribute to their gruff, city-bred demeanor. Meanwhile, A Boogie borrows from Jada’s own history, referencing the Lox rapper’s own 2004 Ja Rule and Fat Joe collaboration by the same name. Jada himself shows off his versatility, adapting his normally traditional flow to incorporate the melodic sensibilities of his collaborators — and because it’s Jadakiss, it works very well.

“New York” is the third single from Rowdy Vs. Rebel. It was preceded by the self-titled lead single and the June release “Woo Nina.” Prior releases “Jesse Owens” with NAV and “9 Bridge” with A Boogie do not appear on the official release but the 17-track project does have features from Dreezy, Fivio Foreign, and French Montana.

Rowdy Rebel Details His Rise, Fall, And Return In A Dramatic ‘Rowdy Vs. Rebel’ Album Trailer

Rowdy Rebel’s story is low-key pretty fascinating. The Brooklyn rapper went from the height of popularity to serving a six-year prison sentence and this Friday, July 15, he finally releases his debut album. It’s called Rowdy Vs. Rebel, a title that addresses Rowdy’s duality and his struggle between doing the right thing and doing the things that first landed him in hot water, to begin with. Rowdy has released a hype trailer depicting his dramatic rise, fall, and return, as well as detailing the album’s features and previewing some of its drill-oriented songs.

In addition to Rowdy’s apparent multiple personalities, the album is also set to feature A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, with whom Rowdy collaborated on “9 Bridge,” Dreezy, Drizzy Juliano, Kamikaze Kai, Fivio Foreign (can we give these drill guys some props for their alliterative nicknames?), French Montana, and Jadakiss. The trailer features clips of some of Rowdy’s in-studio link-ups with French Montana and Fivio, as well as snippets of videos in which he’s appeared, including CJ’s “Whoopty” remix and “Woo Nina.” The final clip finds Rowdy reiterating the album’s theme and wondering “Who gone win?” It looks like we’ll find out.
