Blxst & Roddy Ricch’s First Collab Will Have You Feeling “Passionate”

We’re only two New Music Fridays into March, and already, we’re impressed with the quality of work our favourite artists have been sharing this month. Last weekend, projects from Kali Uchis, Dreamville, and Masego stole the spotlight. This time around, it was Conway the Machine who came through for rap lovers, and Blxst who held it down for any R&B fanatics out there.

The latter didn’t deliver a full-length project, though he did treat fans to a four-pack EP called Just For Clarity 2 featuring the previously released “Keep Calling” with Larry June. Blxst operates solo on “Call My Bluff,” but the two other titles, “Ghetto Cinderella” and “Passionate,” find him working with some impressive collaborators. On the project’s opening track, he teamed up with Mustard and Terrace Martin, and following that, he and fellow Californian Roddy Ricch came together for the first time.

Blxst’s New EP Features Roddy Ricch and Other Friends

“‘Passionate’ is bigger than a song to me,” the Before You Go hitmaker said of the catchy track. “I like to look at it more as a mindset, especially working with Roddy on this record. It’s dope to see somebody’s success go from zero to a hundred, especially somebody from the hometown.” Blxst went on to recall the early days of he and “The Box” lyricist in the studio before they had established themselves, also praising their endless passion.

While four songs may be enough to hold fans over for now, they obviously want more from the 30-year-old in the near future. Luckily, he’s teased that his new EP is simply “an appetizer before the debut.” Blxst added, “I call it a flawless four-pack because it’s intentionally short and sweet.”

Quotable Lyrics:

Yeah, and I done put my heart and soul in it
Got it out the mud, I promise it’s a cold feelin’
This ain’t overnight, I woke up with no ceilin’
I made a vision come to life, I’m Cole Bennett

Blxst Is Back With “Just For Clarity 2” EP Featuring Roddy Ricch, Larry June, And More

Blxst has been working in the music industry in various capacities for nearly a decade now, and 2022 was one of his biggest years to date. In the early months, he appeared on Murda Beatz’s “One Shot” with Wale, as well as the wildly successful “Peru (Remix)” alongside Fireboy DML and 21 Savage. In April, the multi-talent’s Before You Go project arrived, boasting 13 titles, including popular releases such as “About You” and “Every Good Girl.”

Following that he closed the year out with a few more collaborations with the likes of Chris Brown, Kalan.FrFr, Babyface Ray, and Nija. As we continue to speed through 2023, Blxst is making his mark with a new four-track EP, Just For Clarity 2, which arrived this New Music Friday (March 10). It includes the previously premiered “Keep Calling” featuring Larry June, plus two more joint efforts and one solo song.

Blxst and Roddy Ricch’s First Collab Is Plenty “Passionate”

Blxst’s tracklist begins with “Ghetto Cinderella” featuring Mustard and Terrace Martin, which chiefly sets the tone for what’s to come. Next, he and Roddy Ricch put on a “Passionate” display with their first-ever link-up. Where the 30-year-old’s voice really shines is on “Call My Bluff,” where he operates solo.

As The Source reports, the R&B artist’s work with “The Box” hitmaker sounds to be his personal favourite. “‘Passionate’ is bigger than a song to me,” Blxst explained. “I like to look at it more as a mindset, especially working with Roddy on this record. It’s dope to see somebody’s success go from zero to a hundred, especially somebody from the hometown.

“I just remember us being in a studio before anybody knew who we were and we had that same drive and passion,” he added. “This track is a look back at that, seeing where we were, where we are, where we’re going, and what brought us here today.” Of his project as a whole, Blxst also shared, “When I think of clarity, I think of being clear and getting straight to the point.”

“It’s a moment for me to vent and be honest and transparent, which is a theme throughout the EP. I call it a flawless four-pack because it’s intentionally short and sweet, but it’s also an appetizer before the debut.” It remains unclear when his album will be dropping, but fans are certainly excited to see what else the California native has in store.

Roddy Ricch Checks Paparazzi for Filming Him Putting Car Seat in his Car

Roddy Ricch has altercation with paparazzi

Roddy Ricch is the latest celebrity to push back after paparazzi have crossed personal boundaries. Video, allegedly taken on December 29, recently surfaced showing an unnamed member of the paparazzi getting a little too close for comfort to The Box artist.

The video, which was shared by The Hollywood Fix, was taken in West Hollywood and shows Roddy and two men (likely his security detail and a store employee) trying to load what appears to be a car seat into the artist’s black car. The person (an unknown male) recording the film at first just zooms in on the three men before approaching them and talking about how he saw the artist in concert.

The security guard blocks the camera and tells the person recording “he’s doing something private now, he’s doing something for his family.”

The person appears to back off before continuing to try to talk to the artist, to which the security guard repeatedly tells him to back off. The person continues to record and Roddy approaches him and tells him to “turn that off” and says he wants to talk to him “like a man.” The man continues to object and Roddy continues to ask him to turn the camera off, saying “you walked up on me…this is real life, bro.”

The man backs off and talks to someone off camera, confirming that it is indeed Roddy Ricch, but saying “he [Roddy] is in a bad mood though.”

Roddy and his security guard drive off without incident.

Earlier this year, rapper Kodak Black had a similar incident in which he told a person filming him in his private life to back off and stop recording, citing the murder of PNB Rock days before. (The artist’s murderer apparently found his location based on a social media video.)

It is unclear who the car seat was for. Roddy has one child, a son, with baby mama Allie Minati.

Roddy Ricch Goes Off On Paparazzi

2022 has been a rather redeeming year for Roddy Ricch. After last year’s LIVE LIFE FAST didn’t exactly live up to expectations, he took a brief break from dropping music.

Additionally, the world was witness to him deleting his Twitter account following a snippet receiving widespread criticism earlier this year. On Thursday (December 29), however, the Compton native made headlines for getting into a heated exchange with some paparazzi.

The incident occurred while the “Down Below” rapper was out in L.A., appearing to be loading a baby seat into the trunk of his car. After his security guard warns the paparazzi to back up, he proceeds to cross the street. Roddy doesn’t hesitate to flash him the finger as he’s doing so. After all, he does continue to film the 24-year-old, who evidently isn’t happy upon realizing this. The Compton native subsequently decides to approach the cameraman.

He repeatedly tells the paparazzi to turn his camera off and stop recording. “Turn that off, ’cause I wanna talk to you like a man,” he pleads.

“You was the first dude that walked up on me. You walked up on me, bro. Don’t walk up on me. This is real life, don’t walk up on me. I’m handling my personal business, you walking up on me. This ain’t that bro, I’m living real life,” Roddy states. He ends by telling the cameraman, “Leave me the f*ck alone.”

After a string of impressive mixtapes, including his Feed Tha Streets series, the Compton native dropped his debut album Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial in December 2019. Of course, this was backed by his biggest single to date in the megahit, “The Box.”

Last month, he returned to drop off the third instalment of his infamous series, Feed Tha Streets III. Although it does follow a similar formula to past Roddy projects, as a whole, it showcases his confidence and effortlessly melodic flow.

Gunna Released From Jail: Hip-Hop Reacts

Gunna is no longer in jail.

In a shocking development on Wednesday, the YSL Records artist pleaded guilty to a single charge in his RICO case. According to Billboard, Gunna took an Alford plea, which allowed him to formally admit his guilt while maintaining his innocence. As a result, the 29-year-old artist was released from jail on Wednesday afternoon.

Per the terms of his release, Gunna was sentenced to five years with one year to serve in prison, according to Fox 5 Atlanta. However, his time was reportedly commuted to time served and 500 hours of community service. All in all, it looks like a win for Gunna, but naturally, some fans have become skeptical of his release. However, Gunna has clarified that he was not flipped into a witness.

“When I became affiliated with YSL in 2016, I did not consider it a “gang”; more like a group of people from metro Atlanta who had common interests and artistic aspirations,” Gunna said in a statement. “My focus of YSL was entertainment – rap artists who wrote and performed music that exaggerated and “glorified” urban life in the Black community.”

He continued, saying, “While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way.”

Rappers and music industry professionals celebrate Gunna’s release on social media.

Following all of the tragedies that hit the Southern capital this year, the Hip-Hop community prayed for Atlanta. Without a doubt, some of those prayers have been answered. Gunna’s release from jail marks the first win for Atlanta’s rap scene in a while. As a result, several Hip-Hop artists and industry professionals hit social media to react joyously to the news about Gunna.

See reactions from Kid Cudi, DJ Scheme, Roddy Ricch, and more below.

December has now brought with it the releases of Brittney Griner and Gunna. Do you think there’s any hope for Young Thug, too? Let us know your thoughts on this major update to Atlanta’s YSL RICO Case in the comment section below.

DaBaby and Roddy Ricch Sued for Alleged Copyright Infringement for Rockstar

DaBaby and Roddy Ricch Sued for Alleged Copyright Infringement for Rockstar

DaBaby and Roddy Ricch have been hit with an infringement lawsuit over their 2020 hit “Rockstar.” Copyright infringement is when a copyrighted work is reproduced, distributed, performed, publicly displayed, or made into a derivative work without the copyright owner’s permission. To prove copyright infringement, a copyright holder must establish a valid copyright and that the original material was used illegally. The plaintiff can produce a copyright certificate or other proof showing the date the copyrighted material was created.

A Florida producer has sued the rapper Craig Mims, who is publicly known as JuJu Beats. He claims DaBaby took the beat from his song “Selena” to create his Roddy Ricch-featuring single “Rockstar” without his knowledge. JuJu Beatz claims he sent the moment in a digital file and believes the rapper’s camp accessed the file more than 40 times between 2019 and the beginning of 2020. JuJu said he was not compensated for using his song’s beat. He claimed he’s reached out to DaBaby to settle the dispute, but the rapper won’t “cooperate or accept responsibility for blatant and willful copyright infringement.” Therefore, he is now seeking $150,000 worth of statutory damages per infringement.

Five examples of copyright infringement are illegally downloading music files; uploading someone else’s copyrighted material to an accessible web page, downloading licensed software from an unauthorized site, modifying and reproducing someone else’s creative work without making significant changes; or recording a movie in a theater.

The lawsuit states, “plaintiff provided his musical composition known as ‘Selena’ to defendants in 2019, who then used ‘Selena’ to create a sound recording entitled ‘Rockstar.’ The Defendants accessed plaintiff’s ‘Selena’ on more than 40 occasions in late 2019 and early 2020”.

Earlier this week, Mim’s lawyer told Rolling Stone, “It is unfortunate that these types of situations occur almost daily within the music industry; the unequal balance of power and money in the industry is sometimes used to silence the real individuals who truly deserve a piece of the action and money.” He added, “It is too easy for the labels and mainstream artists and producers to cut out the ones who really matter the most, it is disheartening because there is enough money in the industry to change everyone’s lives, but the money usually ends up in the hands of the few.”

Roddy Ricch Hit With Lawsuit Over “The Box”: Report

Roddy Ricch is facing a lawsuit for his 2019 hit “The Box.” His label, Atlantic Records, and producer 30 Roc are also named in the legal documents. Per TMZ, singer Greg Perry filed the suit. In it, he claimed that the Compton native used “key elements” from his 1975 song “Come On Down (Get Your Head Out Of The Clouds)” without asking his permission.

Perry is reportedly seeking damages in the lawsuit, saying that an expert “clearly and convincingly” found similarities between the songs. He’s also hoping the court will see that they purposely committed copyright infringement.

Ricch recently celebrated the third anniversary of the song yesterday (Dec. 6). Shortly following the song’s release in 2019, both the single and the 24-year-old’s debut album, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial, quickly climbed the music charts.

“The Box” went on to take the number one spot on the Hot 100 Billboard chart. It also took off on TikTok and other social media, with users adding the song to various videos.
