Rob49: Crafting A New Rap Legacy

Rob49’s fast-rising career is a truly tremendous one. At just 24, he’s already signed to one of the biggest record labels ever. Better yet, he’s collaborated with some of Hip Hop’s finest, both young and old. His ascent has been noteworthy, especially with the way the star has overcome significant obstacles in his life. His rough, authentic, and unapologetic sound is garnering him new fans by the day, and he’s forging a unique sound of his own.

Rob49 was recently announced as a member of XXL’s 2023 Freshman Class. He joins a host of other impressive newcomers that made it to the coveted list, including Luh Tyler, TiaCorine, GloRilla, and more. This is no doubt a nod to his awe-inspiring musical feats in 2022. In addition to this, the New Orleans native is waxing even stronger in 2023.

Rob49’s Rise To Fame

Rob49 was born Robert Thomas in 1999 and raised by a single mother in New Orleans. His name stems from the 4th and 9th wards of his city’s projects, where he grew up. Even though he always had the music bug, he wouldn’t go into the studio until 2020. This moment led to Rob49 accepting his fate as a rapper. Before finding success with rap, he tried to go to school for nursing and even joined the National Guard.

While accompanying his friend to the studio, Rob49 stepped into the booth during a break and decided to spit a few bars. The overwhelming reaction from his fans proved to be a kickstarter for multiple sessions for the young rapper to create more music. Now, with co-signs from major acts like Lil Baby, Kevin Gates, and special love from Birdman, Rob49 is coming into his own.

Musical Success

In 2022, two years after his first taste of local musical success, Rob49 released the project Welcome to Vulture Island. The title track, “Vulture Island,” became a major hit for the rapper. After being catapulted into the limelight, he became widely popular not only in his native New Orleans but beyond. The album offered a glimpse into the realities of his life and greatly showcased his love for his city.

With Birdman on the intro, Welcome to Vulture Island started strong. Their collaboration also led to the Hip Hop legend wanting to sign Rob49 under him. Eventually, he signed with the famous Geffen Records, all while at the early stages of his career. On his collaboration with Lil Baby, Rob49 reached out to the rapper after seeing his freestyle on Instagram. Within a few weeks, Lil Baby was tapped for the remix of “Vulture Island.”

His latest album, 4GOD II, was released on June 9. It features Roddy Rich, G Herbo, Trippie Redd, and Birdman once again. The project has quickly become a favorite of the year and continues to position him as a significant New Orleans export

Rob49’s Personal Life

Rob49 grew up surrounded by music, particularly Beyoncé, thanks to his mother. As time passed, he listened to many major names, including Kanye West, Future, and Lil Wayne. He’s described his childhood as one where “you see murders every day.” His father was also incarcerated for much of his upbringing.

Earlier this year, during French Montana’s video shoot in Miami, Rob49 was shot along with several others on the scene. Thankfully, his injuries were not fatal. Now, the rapper keeps at his grind while “moving smart.” He’s revealed that yet another project is underway, and he’s not slowing down anytime soon. As a big fan of the New Orleans Pelicans, Rob49 has also enjoyed access to courtside games. Furthermore, he revealed that the Pelicans had asked him to make a version of “Vulture Island” for them.

Rob49 Details Driving Himself To The Hospital After Getting Shot

Rob49, a rapper who hails from New Orleans, spent some time recovering after a shooting that took place in January. Now he is back in the public eye, and willing to dish out the details of what happened. Rob49 was on the set of a music video featuring another rapper, French Montana. While the crew was hard at work, the danger was lurking just around the corner. Despite starting his career in only 2020, the rapper quickly became a contender in the rapping game.

As a result, many opportunities to work with big stars fell into his lap. Rob49 took the chance to work with French Montana. The two set out to film a music video, but chaos turned into a full-blown shootout that night. As many as ten different people were shot in the violent scene, although luckily no one was killed. One of the people shot was Rob49, who took the fate of his life into his own hands. After being shot, the upcoming rapper got into a stranger’s car and began to drive himself to the hospital.

Rob49 Took Matters Into His Own Hands

In an interview with Million Dollaz Worth of Game, a podcast, Rob explains what happened directly after the shooting. “Yes I drove myself to the hospital, and I jumped in anybody’s car.” Understandably, the rapper did not concern himself with any social rules. “Went to the hospital, I said ‘alright’, we pull up to the hospital: hosptial closed.” After finding out the initial hospital was closed for the night, the artist took the driver to another hospital. He explains that he had been shot in the back by his lungs, and he knew that he had to act fast.

While driving to the trauma center, all of the tires on the car popped. The two were driving on the sidewalk to shorten their drive time, which led to the flat tires. After driving on the interstate with flat tires, the trauma center sent Rob49 back to the first hospital. Eventually, the poor artist got proper medical treatment for his wounds. Now he is recovering from the incident, and gets to boast about his bravery. To stay updated as the story unfolds, make sure to check back in.

Rob49 Clarifies Shooting At French Montana Event In January

It was exciting for French Montana as he celebrated the release of Coke Boys 6, but it was a harrowing evening for all attendees. French was said to have filmed a music video in or near The Licking in Miami Gardens when the incident occurred. The rapper was captured enjoying himself with his crew before a hail of gunfire rang out on the crowd. Ten people were injured in the chaos, but thankfully, everyone walked away alive.

Rapper Rob49 was one of those who took a hit, and he detailed what happened with HipHopDX. He refuted claims that they were shooting a video and said it was a celebration of their collaboration, “Igloo.” Rob added, “We were just chilling, and we just wanted to perform the song and sh*t and celebrate because it was dropping that night. So we just went to turn up with him. I saw [reports] that it was a music video and I was like, alright, I’m not even about to clear that up.”

French Montana Releases A Statement

There was growing concern for Rob49 after it was shared he was one of the victims. However, it was quickly noted that he was recovering well; weeks later, he returned to Instagram. The rapper touted his arm in a sling, but he was in good spirits and with friends. Meanwhile, French Montana addressed the incident in a statement on social media.

“Last night, I was in Miami celebrating the release of my CB6 mixtape w/ friends at a local restaurant,” Frech wrote in January. “We unfortunately were at the wrong place, at the wrong time when an incident took place that left people hurt. Our thoughts & prayers are w/ the victims & families at this time.”

Heavy Game Has Nerve Damage

Another rapper on the scene was Heavy Game, and in a recent freestyle with Supa Cindy of 99 Jamz, he detailed his ordeal. Heavy was reportedly shot in the chest and armpit, and he also had an arm in a sling. He spit bars about hearing the shots ring out, seeing his friends gasp for breath, and the ongoing recovery process. It is unclear if police have any suspects.

French Montana Blamed By Police For Miami Shooting

On Thursday night (January 5), reports indicate that there was a shooting on the set of a music video. It was seemingly for French Montana and Rob49‘s new collab, “Igloo.”

Although, the “No Stylist” rapper says the event was instead just a celebration for his latest album, Coke Boys 6. 10 people were shot, including Rob49 himself and Montana’s bodyguard, who is reportedly in critical condition.

However, police are now blaming the 38-year-old for what transpired. Miami Gardens Police Chief, Delma Noel-Pratt says event organizers didn’t obtain the necessary permits. This is reportedly a violation of city policy.

“If the necessary agencies were notified ahead of time and protocol followed, police officers would have been in place to safeguard the community and assist with deterring and responding, if needed, to any situation that may arise,” says Noel-Pratt.

Furthermore, footage obtained by TMZ allegedly shows the Morocco native and others taking to a nearby KFC restaurant for cover. They reportedly stayed inside for 30-40 minutes, until cops arrived at the scene.

On Friday (January 6), the “Unforgettable” rapper took to his Twitter account to make a statement. Notably, he doesn’t mention anything about filming a music video. “Last night, I was in Miami celebrating the release of my CB6 mixtape w/ friends at a local restaurant. We unfortunately were at the wrong place, at the wrong time when an incident took place that left people hurt. Our thoughts & prayers are w/ the victims & families at this time,” writes Montana.

Of course, the sixth instalment of the Coke Boys series did release yesterday (January 6). It boasts features from the likes of Kodak Black, Benny The Butcher, Stove God Cooks and more. DJ Drama takes care of the hosting duties, making it an official Gangsta Grillz mixtape. The Money Heist Edition also dropped, which contains nine extra songs.

TMZ also reports that all of the victims are expected to survive. Finally, make sure to stay tuned to HNHH for all of the latest updates.

French issued a statement via TMZ where he stated that he was “at the wrong place at the wrong time.”

“Last night, I was in Miami celebrating the release of my CB6 mixtape w/ friends at a local restaurant,” the statement read. “We unfortunately were at the wrong place, at the wrong time when an incident took place that left people hurt. Our thoughts & prayers are w/ the victims & families at this time.”

The initial reports claimed that French Montana was shooting a video for a song off of Coke Boys 6, though his team denied that was the case. The rapper and his team were reportedly in Miami Gardens celebrating the release of CB6.

Police said 10 people were injured during the shooting, though French left the scene unscathed. However, the rapper Rob49 was reportedly struck by gunfire. Sources close to TMZ say that everyone who was injured is expected to recover.

Rob49 Shot On Video Set With French Montana, Latter’s Bodyguard Is “Fighting For His Life”

The year is already off to a tumultuous start, with French Montana and Rob49 becoming the latest rappers in the midst of a bloody battle. As NBC Miami reports, the two were at a video shoot in Florida on Thursday (January 5) when gunfire eventually erupted.

Local police responded to a ShotSpotter call prior to 8 PM last night. It brought them to The Licking Miami Gardens on Northwest 27th Street. Detective Diana Gourgue is providing the media with updates, sharing that the altercation initially began in one location, and moved to the restaurant later.

Ultimately, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue says that a total of 10 people were injured at the crime scene. Four of them were able to bring themselves to the hospital, while medical officials transported the other six.

At this time, the condition of their injuries remains unknown. Reports circulating online state that Rob49 himself was hit by bullets, but remains in stable condition. Montana’s bodyguard, however, is suffering a far worse fate. Allegedly, he’s been fighting for his life following the shooting.

The gunfire apparently rang out as a result of a robbery. Another artist, Ced Mogul, was on location at the video shoot behind a KFC. After someone’s things were stolen, filming moved to The Licking, where guns were a blaze.

As far as we know, no arrests have presently been made, though police continue to investigate the situation.

Many social media users have already been reacting to the news. Specifically, several are condemning those keeping some of the more gruesome footage circulating online.

“If you’re sharing videos of the aftermath from that French Montana video shoot WITH PEOPLE LYING ON THE GROUND BLEEDING OUT, reevaluate your fucking life cos that’s ugly, heartless behaviour,” one person wrote.
