Nicki Minaj Breaks Her Social Media Silence To Congratulate Rihanna On Her Pregnancy And The Super Bowl

The Navy and the Barbs are equally as anxious for new music from their respective queens. It’s been almost five years since Nicki Minaj put out a full-length album, and over seven years for Rihanna. While we trust that the two will deliver quality this year, both stars are enjoying motherhood to their sons.

Nicki Minaj hasn’t posted to Twitter since November, and posted to Instagram today (February 18) for the first time since November to share the remix of Machel Montano and Destra’s “Shake The Place,” on which she delivers verses shouting out her Trinidad roots.

While making an appearance on the gram, she took time to shout out Rihanna and congratulate her for her second pregnancy, as well as her Super Bowl halftime performance.

Minaj sent her benedictions by way of a comment on Rihanna’s Instagram post, where she shared her British Vogue spread featuring her partner ASAP Rocky, and their son.

“A lil pretty boy already,” said Minaj. “Congratulations on the new bundle of, joy, Queen. Bodied the Super Bowl.”

Minaj and Rihanna have collaborated quite a few times in their careers, notably on “Fly” from Minaj’s Pink Friday album and “Raining Men” on Rihanna’s Loud album. Perhaps a new collab is in order for their respective new eras.

GloRilla Says She Looks Like 2005 Rihanna, Social Media Debates

In 2022, GloRilla undeniably had one of the most impressive comeups of any new artist. Her “F.N.F.” single (and its remix) continues to chiefly blast at clubs all over the country. More recent weeks have seen her deliver on singles like “On Wat U On” with Moneybagg Yo as well as her latest solo effort, “Internet Trolls.”

People obviously love her for her musical talents and unique voice. Of course, many also love the Memphis native for her sense of humour. Unlike other female rappers, she opted to not go under the knife and get a figure-enhancing BBL. Rather, she’s been embracing her petite body, and clearly letting the world know that she thinks she’s thick – regardless of what haters may say.

Another recent comment from GloRilla that’s been making rounds online is her resemblance to Rihanna. According to the Anyways, Life’s Great… hitmaker, she and the expecting mother are “twins.” She previously made these comments during an interview on the Grammys red carpet. Following that, they’ve now become a topic of discourse on Twitter over the weekend.

It all began on Friday (February 17) afternoon, when Big Glo quote tweeted a throwback image of RiRi and Lil Kim at an award show in 2005. The Barbadian performer was roughly 17 years old at the time, and looks much younger than her current adult face that she’s grown into. The original poster noticed that the photo of Rihanna backs up the CMG artist’s claims that they’re “twins,” altering the caption to read, “Lil Kim & GloRilla, 2005.”

When she saw the post herself, the 23-year-old wrote “Been told y’all dats my twin,” earning upwards of 80K likes. Thus far, the reactions to her comment have been varied, with some vehemently denying that the rising star could pass for the Bad Gal, while others agree with her take. “She also say she thick,” one person pointed out, markedly poking fun at GloRilla’s delusion over the size of her behind.

Rihanna On Her Son Wearing Pink & Florals: “Fluidity In Fashion Is Best”

Much like his parents, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s son is well on his way to becoming a “Fashion Killa.” The young one’s mother has been designing her own Fenty products and putting together show-stopping outfits for years. His father is also a well-known style icon and has never been one to shy away from mixing women’s clothing into his wardrobe. In fact, he even once described wearing pieces intended for the opposite sex as “punk.”

At the same time, the “Rude Boy” hitmaker’s looks – although often sexy in nature – incorporate masculine pieces like graphic tees, jerseys, and baggy pants frequently. Their little one is just 9 months old. Still, they’re already passing off everything they know about looking fly to him (talk about generational wealth!). During her recent interview with British Vogue, Rih was candid about her plans for dressing her baby.

“One of my favourite outfits he has is a miniature version of one of Rocky’s,” she explained. She was referencing a tartan kilt and ripped jeans that her partner previously wore on the cover of GQ. “I like to dress him in things that don’t look like baby clothes. I like to push it.”

When purchasing pieces for the baby, Rihanna doesn’t limit herself to the typical blue colour scheme for boys. “I put him in floral stuff, I put him in hot pink, I love that,” she gushed to the outlet. “I think that fluidity in fashion is best, I always shop in the men’s department, you know.”

Since she began sharing photos of him last December, Rihanna’s little one has been the talk of the town. Of course, we still don’t know his name. However, we are certain that he’ll make an excellent big brother in just a few months’ time. At this time, the only thing fans are more desperate for than updates on her offspring is information on her next album.

The 34-year-old hasn’t blessed our ears since 2016’s ANTI – apart from her recent work on the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. It remains unclear exactly what RiRi has in store for her next project, or when we’ll see it land. She previously said it would be “ridiculous” for her not to drop in 2023, however, so chances are good we’ll be satisfied before the year is up. Read more about that here, and check back later for more pop culture news updates.

Shaq Defends Rihanna’s Super Bowl Performance Against Critics: “Shut It Up”

As the Super Bowl celebrations continue for the Kansas City Chiefs, Rihanna’s halftime performance is still being discussed. The singer floated through several fan-favorite classics during her 14-minute show, but it wasn’t her music that stole attention. Ri used her huge NFL opportunity to reveal her second pregnancy, although she didn’t detail how far along she is just yet. The performance was praised by the singer’s fans, and highlights have flooded social media. However, not everyone was impressed, and Shaq didn’t want to hear another peep from critics.

“I want to say this,” Shaq began during a recent interview. “All you people disrespecting my Rihanna, shut your face. Shut it up. Like, we livin’ in a world where people got too much freedom. Keep you **** to yourself. She did a wonderful job, she’s pregnant, she blessed it, she did her thang. She didn’t fall. Just leave it there.”

He continued: “All you superstars that’s disrespectful and causing beef, shut your face. Shut it up.” Shaq added that if Ri was his lady and he heard about celebrities shading the singer, he would check them. The NBA icon said, “Rappers, presidential candidates, I would have to get at you. Leave this woman alone. Rihanna is Rihanna. I was there, it was beautiful. She did a great job. I didn’t know she was pregnant until she bust out, but leave her alone.”

Shaq’s comments circulated on the heels of WWE icon Bill Goldberg expressing his disappointment with Rihanna’s performance. “I thought Rihanna was frickin’ horrible,” he said during the CarCast podcast this week. “I was disgusted by it. That’s all. Let’s just say that. I thought it was horrible.” It seems Goldberg had an issue with Rihanna’s genital wiping gesture during the show.

Regardless of critics, the halftime display’s viewership outnumbered that of the Super Bowl itself. It marked Rihanna’s return to the stage following a seven-year absence, and it opened up possibilities for an album release and potential tour. Check out Shaq defending Rihanna above.

Here’s How Rihanna’s Levitating Backup Dancers Rehearsed For The Super Bowl Halftime Show

Rihanna’s Super Bowl LVII halftime show performance still has the world talking (including radio pundit Howard Stern). Whether the public is raving about her pregnancy reveal, the clothes she wore (inspired by the late fashion icon André Leon Talley), the high-energy ASL performer that translated for her, or making memes about her floating set design, the “Work” singer is a trending topic across the internet — not just Spotify’s music charts.

Now, the Oscar nominee’s featured background dancers during Super Bowl LVII are providing fans with a behind-the-scenes look at how they prepared for the elaborate moving set design. One dancer by the name of Siah Helise, took to social media to share raw rehearsal footage with a lengthy caption outlining her personal journal as a dancer as well as how she and others were prepped for Rihanna’s set.

“Week one, I was learning these steps on the ground, and the next week I was told I would be dancing 60 ft in the motherf*cking air on a platform,” wrote the dancer, adding, “This footage is super rough this is one of the first couple of days of being on the platforms. This ish was NOT easy.” Ultimately, Helise was unable to perform at the Super Bowl due to COVID, but she wanted viewers of the big game to know how much work went into the 13-minute mini-concert.

Helise wasn’t the only performer sharing clips. The choreographer Parris Goebel, who’s worked with Rihanna in the past for her annual Fenty Fashion Show, also uploaded clips of rehearsal, thanking Rihanna for tapping her once again for such a major career milestone.

The Kansas City Chief players may not have been banned from watching Rihanna’s set live, but they now have both the full performance clip and behind-the-scenes teasers to look back on.

Rihanna Didn’t Call Katy Perry, Friend And Fellow Super Bowl Halftime Show Performer, For Advice (Which Perry Understands)

Rihanna is of course fresh off performing the Super Bowl Halftime Show. Just a few years ago, though, it was Katy Perry’s turn in the NFL spotlight, when she put on a memorable Super Bowl performance of her own (never forget Left Shark) in 2015. Rihanna and Perry are friends, but despite having a former Super Bowl halftime performer at her disposal, Rihanna opted not to seek advice about the big show from Perry (which Perry totally gets, by the way).

Perry and Lionel Richie were on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night (February 16) to promote American Idol. During the interview, Kimmel asked Perry if Rihanna called her before the Super Bowl looking for some halftime show insight, and Perry said, “She don’t need no pointers: she’s Rihanna!”

The host then wondered if Perry knew about Rihanna’s pregnancy beforehand. She noted that she was filming American Idol in Hawaii on the day of the Super Bowl, and that she had to go to set right when Rihanna was about to start her performance. She continued, “So we were trying to drag our feet, because we all want to see Rihanna play the Super Bowl. We actually had to film and then it happened and we came back, and we found a cut of it, and no, we all saw it then for the first time then, and it was amazing! It was so beautiful.”

Rihanna Explains Why She Decided To Perform At Super Bowl LVII After “Sellout” Comments

Screen Shot 2023 02 14 at 9.18.23 AM

Rihanna’s Super Bowl halftime performance is still being talked about as it was her first performance in 7 years. However, a few years ago Rihanna said in an interview that she didn’t want to perform at the Super Bowl because of the treatment of Colin Kaepernick and didn’t want to be considered a sellout. However, in a recent interview, she addressed her past remarks and explained why she finally decided to do the performance.

In a new interview with British Vogue, Rih said that becoming a mother changed her outlook on everything and that despite there still needing to be a lot of mending between the Black community and the NFL, representation is important and to have two Black halftime shows back to back would send a “strong message.”

“There’s still a lot of mending to be done in my eyes,” Rihanna said, “but it’s powerful to break those doors, and have representation at such a high, high level and a consistent level. Two Super Bowls back-to-back, you know, representing the urban community, globally. It is powerful. It sends a really strong message.”

She continued: “Raising a young Black man is one of the scariest responsibilities in life. You’re like, ‘What am I leaving my kids to? This is the planet they’re gonna be living on?’ All of those things really start to hit differently.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Rihanna said revealed that she had been asked to perform at the Super Bowl every year for the last decade but turned it down. She had even been asked to the Super Bowl in Atlanta, but once again turned it down because of the NFL’s treatment of Colin Kaepernick. In her 2019 Vogue article, Rih said “I just couldn’t be a sellout. There’s things within that organization that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way.”

Rihanna’s performance at Super Bowl LVII ended up being one of the biggest ever, with more people tuning in to see her performance than the actual game.

Rihanna Fires Back At Fans Who Criticized Her For Calling Her Baby Son ‘Fine’

Rihanna has been back in the news a ton this month, between revealing her second pregnancy during her Super Bowl halftime performance and appearing with A$AP Rocky and their child on the cover of British Vogue.

The couple included their son in a number of shots from the precious photoshoot, some of which Rihanna has since uploaded to Instagram in celebration.

“My son so fine! Idc idc idc! How crazy both of my babies were in these photos and mommy had no clue,” Rihanna captioned. “thank you so much @edward_enninful and @inezandvinoodh for celebrating us as a family.”

A handful of celebrities loved the new pics, including Viola Davis, who dubbed Rihanna’s son a “Cutie PIE!!” with a red heart emoji. “This shoot is definitely a career high point, and we have done some good ones in the past,” Edward Enninful, British Vogue‘s Editor-In-Chief, also added.

However, it seems not everyone was pleased by the news, as some commenters took issue with RiRi’s word choice.

“Who calls a baby fine,” one person wrote. And she simply wasn’t having it.

“His mother!!!” she responded.

“Fine!? more like cute, adorable.. he’s not a grown man.. lol,” another user wrote.

Rihanna, once again, fired right back — this time even harder than before.

“You just keep your lil cougar paws away from him and we good,” she replied.
