Selena Gomez Claims Her Life Is The Inspiration For Jocelyn In “The Idol”

Selena Gomez has claimed that The Weeknd used her real-life trauma as inspiration for the character of Jocelyn in The Idol. The controversial HBO show, co-created by The Weeknd alongside Sam Levinson, concluded last Sunday following an embattled five-episode run. The show follows Jocelyn (Lily Rose-Depp), a world-famous pop star looking to bounce back after a recent fall from grace. However, instead, she falls into the arms of self-help influencer and cult leader Tedros (The Weeknd). The two begin a torrid, debauched relationship where the show wants you to question who is really manipulating who.

However, the show ended up being a ham-fisted male power fantasy that was hated by critics and fans alike. The Weeknd forced the original director, Amy Seimetz, off the show after it gained too much of a “female perspective”. What viewers got instead was a shallow show about a female character as told by two men who want you to root for her abusive boyfriend instead. Furthermore, the show appeared to simply be a vehicle for “shocking” sex scenes. However, not Gomez is dropping some major bombshells about the limited series.

Gomez Notes “Uncanny Similarities” Between Her Life And The Idol

Gomez dated The Weekend for 10 months between 2016 and 2017. Of course, Gomez came up through the hellscape that was tween programming in the late 2000s and early 2010s. While she never worked with Nickelodeon’s Dan Schneider, she was the face of Disney Channel’s Wizards Of Waverly Place. “The similarities between Selena’s life and Jocelyn’s life are just uncanny,” the insider shared. “Being [that] she actually dated The Weeknd, it is even more creepy for her. Her real-life pain was used for entertainment value and that really irks her out. Everyone in her team who has known her for a very long time is dumbfounded by this, but at the end of the day Selena is going to do what she always does – rise above and move on.”

So what exactly are the similarities? Well, both Jocelyn and Gomez are child actors turned pop stars who fall for The Weeknd before being (allegedly in Gomez’s case) emotionally abused by him. However, it goes deeper than that. Jocelyn is seen blowing kisses to the camera, a signature mannerism of Gomez. Furthermore, Jocelyn is also seen being very warm with her fans in a similar way to Gomez. Additionally, both women fight for the right to shoot a topless album cover while also suffering very public mental breakdowns. Meanwhile, both of their post-hospitalization “first moves” feature them posing in lingerie with a hospital bracelet on. However, it’s not the first time that The Weeknd has used his work to take shots at Gomez. Several songs released after their breakup have lyrics aimed at her.

Jaden Smith turned 25 on July 8. Much of Smith’s life has been in the spotlight, given his famous parents. He made his film debut at eight years old, appearing alongside his father in The Pursuit of Happyness. However, much of Smith’s life also led to plenty of public ridicule. Performances in films such as After Earth and TV shows such as Neo Yokio had people dismiss him as an actor. His pseudo-philosophical vaugeposts on social media became something both mocked and analyzed on platforms such as YouTube.

In short, Smith lived the life he wanted to live. However, it, unfortunately, came at a time when it was “cool” to mock “weird” things on the internet. Smith’s teenage years coincided with the rise of anti-cringe culture on the internet. People became obsessed with concepts such as “normalcore” and simply viewed Smith as a nepo baby weirdo doing things for attention. However, Smith has since proven himself to be incredibly competent and able to find his own success. That is despite this dad making some classic dad jokes at this expense.

His last album, CTV3: Cool Tape Vol. 3, dropped in 2020 and peaked at #44 on Billboard 200. Meanwhile, his last single, “Bye”, was released in 2021 and failed to chart. Yung Miami And Southside Appear In Studio Together

Yung Miami and Southside co-parent their two-year-old daughter Summer. It’s a major change from the once-rocky relationship that often made headlines. Recently Southside revealed what their key to successfully co-parenting was. “The key to a cordial co-parenting relationship is just no sex,” he explained. “You cannot have sex with your baby mommas. You can’t have … I got a girlfriend too, so you can’t have sex with your baby mommas with a girlfriend,” the producer told Bootleg Kev in May.

Obviously, that quote proved a little contentious, as one of his baby mamas later called him a deadbeat dad. ““Times have been hard for us this year with maintaining bills and putting food on the table,” she wrote at the time. “My son’s father is a wealthy producer named Southside 808mafia who refuses to send support payments for his 7 year old son. He knows this is his son and has stopped supporting since I am seeking child support through the courts because he IS NOT consistent with helping his son with his half,” a woman named Ashley claimed in a GoFundMe. Regardless, it appears that his co-parenting is going well enough with Yung Miami that they are working together.

Images and videos posted to their respective Instagram stories appeared to confirm that Yung Miami and Southside were working together. Both parties appeared to post from the same recording studio. Furthermore, Southside added the caption “Still locked in no days off.” This likely points to the pair working together on new music. However, it could also be as innocuous as a co-parenting arrangement with Summer. This could especially be the case given Southside’s caption. Perhaps he has been busy with work as of late.

However, it’s unclear if this is a solo project or related to The City Girls album that Miami has said is coming later this summer. The group hasn’t released an album since 2020’s Girls On Lock, which peaked at #29 on the charts. However, they have released a trio of singles ahead of the album release. “Act Bad” with Diddy and Fabolous, “I Need A Thug”, and “Piñata” all failed to chart. Furthermore, people were slightly confused why outlets were making a big deal about the photos. “Well… he’s a producer, she’s a rapper so them being in studio is normal. Jonah Hill’s ex Sarah Brady shared screenshots of several of their texts to one another on social media over the weekend, alleging that the actor was “emotionally abusive” during their relationship. The two went public as partners in 2021.

“This is a warning to all girls. If your partner is talking to you like this, make an exit plan. Call me if you need an ear,” Brady captioned the screenshots. In the posts, Hill asked her to take down any photos from Instagram of her surfing with her “ass in a thong.” From there, Hill labeled it a “good start” while adding, “But it’s not my place to teach you. I’ve made my boundaries clear. You refuse to let go of some of them and you’ve made that clear and I hope it makes you happy.”

Grandmaison, cool as you like, calmly explained the situation to Cenat. “Nah nah, that was just work, cuz.” Cenat, either genuinely ignorant on what Grandmaison’s wife does for a living or playing his reaction up for the camera, screamed “YOU SAY WHAT?” Grandmaison, still incredibly professional, clarified “That was just work. A day at work, ya know?”

Cenat continued to yell, asking “SO YOU NOT AFFECTED BY THIS SHIT?” to which Grandmaison responded, “Hell no. It’s like the best thing that ever happened to us. I’m having a time of it bro.” This response causes Cenat to pull a face at his phone before asking “Deadass?” Grandmaison continues to handle the situation wonderfully, saying, “Yeah man, we’re going cr*zy right now. I had no idea that people would be going so… We only had to turn the dial just a little bit, get a little freakier than we usually do. And now everybody’s enchanted by our relationship.” Kudos to Grandmaison on his response and maybe, just maybe, his response to all of this will help lessen the stigma towards sex work in the United States.

Palmer, meanwhile, has finally been reacting to his antics on Friday (July 7) afternoon.
