According to early data from Nielsen, the awards show saw 37% growth in total viewers year-over-year with 865,000 people tuning in to watch the show, versus 630,000 last year. This 37% increase in viewership is based on fast national data for MTV’s linear channel alone. The VMAs were also broadcast on other networks owned by Paramount Global, including BET, VH1, and Comedy Central. There were performances from prominent stars such as Diddy, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, Lil Wayne, Shakira, and more. This year’s VMAs generated significant interest! This attributed to the rise in viewership compared to the previous year.

Furthermore, the 2023 Video Music Awards earned a 1.03 rating in the 18-49 demographic, marking a substantial 77% increase from the previous year’s 0.58 rating. This 1.03 rating is the highest since the 2020 VMAs. This year’s slate of performances were especially captivating. Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion took the stage together to debut their collaboration “Bongos.” Additionally, Doja Cat delivered captivating performances of “Attention,” “Paint the Town Red,” and new song “Demons” during the show. VMAs Performances Contributed To The Ratings Skyrocketing

Not only were the performances some of the highlights of the night, but the evening was also filled with plenty of other notable moments that circulated social media. For instance, a viral clip circulated showing Megan Thee Stallion exchanging words with presenter Justin Timberlake backstage. Social media speculated the two got into an argument of some sort. However, a source told Billboard that Megan was simply excited to meet Timberlake and she was insisting on a proper introduction at a less chaotic time.

Another moment that was widely talked about was Saweetie reading from a teleprompter. The artist ended up having an embarrassing moment while reading her script. She missed her cue and stumbling over her words a few times. Furthermore, Selena Gomez was caught on camera reacting to Chris Brown’s name being said as one of the nominees during the best R&B award. In the video, Gomez visibly frowns and stops clapping. In conclusion, this year’s VMAs were action-packed with pop-culture moments that will be discussed for years to come.

Amara La Negra Says She & Safaree Are Not Dating, Hints At Publicity Stunt

Amara La Negra and Safaree sparked relationship rumors earlier this year thanks to some lewd videos and beef with his ex Erica Mena. However, during a recent Instagram Live session, Amara explained that neither she nor Safaree ever made this public. As such, it’s all been just rumors up until this point. Considering how close they were, it seems like a stretch, but the “Love & Hip Hop” star explained that she’s just doing her job and netting a lot of ratings and conversation in the process. In other words, she knew exactly what she was doing.

“Safaree never said y’alls was in a relationship, either,” Amara La Negra responded to a fan during her live session. “I’ve been single since the father of my kids, and I haven’t had sex since the father of my kids. Mama, mira, listen. Mira, mama. [Look, girl]. Let me put it this way. I’m a pretty smart girl, I believe that I am. I’ve come this far because I think I’m pretty smart. I get hired to do my job and I do what I have to do, I do it well. We have good ratings, and with that being said, I have accomplished my mission. Now, after that, you want to believe whatever it is you want to believe, that’s on you. You understand?

Amara La Negra Explains Safaree Relationship Rumors

“Like I said before, I’ve been single since the father of my kids, I haven’t had sex since the father of my kids, and I continue to do my job,” Amara La Negra continued. “As long as you give us those ratings, I’ma give you what you want. So, if that’s what you want, then that’s what you see. Yass, period. If you don’t get it after that, there’s nothing else that I can tell you mami, okay?

“Let me tell you something,” she concluded. “My first season of ‘Love & Hip Hop: Miami’ was the best season of my life. I had an amazing producer, Marie Carmen Lopez. She really embraced and showcased who I really was, what my purpose was. Second season came, we somewhat did that ‘ehh.’ And then third and fourth, and now on the fifth, I mean, I’m just going with the flow. Whatever that means, if you’re smart enough, you understand. All I’m saying is that I’ve been single since the father of my kids, but let’s just go with it. Let’s go with whatever it is that you’re watching.” For more news and the latest updates on Safaree, Amara La Negra, and “Love & Hip Hop,” check back in with HNHH.

Benzino Takes Blame For André 3000’s Speech At The 1995 Source Awards

Benzino just took credit (or blame, in this case) for arguably one of the most important moments in hip-hop history. Moreover, readers likely remember André 3000’s now iconic speech after winning Best New Artist at the 1995 Source Awards off the success of their 1994 debut Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik. While they received boos from the crowd, André kept his head up and clapped back at the community hating on the new generation and scene that was bubbling out of the South, which didn’t match the East or West Coast as far as public favor.

“But it’s like this, though,” 3 Stacks remarked on stage. “I’m tired of closed-minded folks. It’s like we got a demo tape and don’t nobody want to hear it. But it’s like this, the South got something to say, and that’s all I got to say.” Now, in a snippet from Ray Daniels’ upcoming interview with Benzino for his The Gauds Show podcast, the media personality admitted that he tried to skew reception of the Atlanta legends’ LP upon its release. Of course, most people loved it, but he didn’t share that enthusiasm. Almost thirty years later, he admitted to sleeping on Outkast, and even suggested that Dré’s speech was aimed at him, among other detractors.

Benzino Claims He Unfortunately Inspired André 3000’s Source Awards Speech

“The reason why André 3000 said what he did, I’ma have to tell y’all this story,” Benzino revealed regarding his close work with The Source magazine co-owner Dave Mays. “When they was giving Outkast 4.5 mics, I remember, I didn’t understand it. I didn’t understand the music. And I was the one who kinda raised some situations up at The Source, I’m gonna admit it. And I was wrong. I think it got to Outkast. And I think that’s why André said what he said. I think that was kinda directed toward me.

“I think I made a mistake and I shouldn’t have,” he continued. “Usually, I bow out of the whole five mic thing. The five mics was so strong that we let the journalists take care of that. The Source was business over here and the journalists over here. We would let the journalists take care of that; the writers, the photographers. It was a group of them and they would sit in a room and the labels would send the albums and they would rate them. It was one of the main things, the five mic system. One time, me and one of them got into a debate about Outkast because I didn’t understand at that time that music. And I was wrong.” Regardless of your take on this, come back to HNHH for the latest on Benzino, André 3000, and Outkast.

Grammys Ratings Experience Significant Increase

The 65th annual Grammy Awards telecast brought in 12.4 million in total viewers on Sunday night. Per Nielsen’s time zone-adjusted national ratings, the show’s viewership spiked approximately 30% from last year’s Grammy awards ceremony. The 2022 Grammys had 9.6 million in total viewers after Live+Same Day tallies came in later that week. The impressive ratings made it the most viewed show of the ceremony’s evening across television networks. 12.4 million is also the largest audience for the Grammy awards since 2020.

Online and on social media, the broadcast hit 66 billion potential impressions. Thus, it is “the #1 social entertainment event of 2023,” according to CBS. By Monday morning, the world had consumed 53 million video clips of Grammy awards ceremony content across CBS and Paramount’s social media platforms. The CBS broadcast took place at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena and streamed on Paramount Plus. The live-streaming ratings were also up 33% from last year. The show broke its own record for the largest live-streaming audience in history across CBS and Paramount Plus platforms.

Trevor Noah hosted the Grammy awards ceremony for the third year in a row. The star-studded performance list included Quavo, Lizzo, Harry Styles, Sam Smith and Kim Petras, Bad Bunny, and more. Beyoncé made history as the most grammy-awarded artist in the history of the program. Lizzo also made history as the first black woman to win Record of the Year since Whitney Houston in 1994. Kim Petras made history as well, becoming the first openly transgender woman to win the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance Award for “Unholy” with Sam Smith. Additionally, Styles took home the Grammy for Album of the Year for “Harry’s House.” The Recording Academy also gathered artists to celebrate 50 years of hip-hop.

In comparison to other award shows of the year, the 2023 Golden Globes had 1.1 rating with 6.3 million viewers. NBC broadcasted the show and streamed it on Peacock. However, these ratings show a 26% and 9% drop, respectively, from last year’s Golden Globes in 2022. On social media, Golden Globes content ranked in almost 11 million digital page and video views across E! News and NBC, according to NBC. The difference in ratings between the Golden Globes and the Grammys was drastic.
