Toro Y Moi’s ‘Tuesday’ Video Sets Off The Rollout For His New Album, ‘Hole Erth’

Over the course of his career, Toro Y Moi has followed his muse to some pretty interesting places, from chillwave to synth-pop, house, R&B, and more. On his next album, Hole Erth, which drops on September 6 on Dead Oceans, he seems to be leaning into a blend of modern alt-pop and the scuzzy SoundCloud rap sound of the past decade. Lending to this impression are features from rappers like Don Toliver, Duckwrth, Kenny Mason, and Kevin Abstract, while the rockier, more melodic features include Death Cab for Cutie’s Benjamin Gibbard, hyperpop artist Glaive, and synth-pop project Porches, among others.

To kick off the rollout for the album, Toro shared the nostalgic video for “Tuesday,” which reflects on the half-idyllic, half-rebellious teen years of suburban youth. There’s a tongue-in-cheek quality to the lyrics, which toe the line between poking fun at the painfully earnest songwriting of the heyday of Hot Topic and earnestly reproducing it. You can watch the video above and check out the album’s cover and tracklist below.

Reason Celebrates His New Album With A Spot-On ‘UPROXX Sessions’ Performance Of ‘Call Me’

Top Dawg Entertainment rapper Reason released a new album, Porches, earlier this month, and now he’s celebrating with an appearance on the latest installment of UPROXX Sessions. Standing in front of the classic colorful graffiti wall, he delivered an A-plus rendition of the introspective album highlight “Call Me.”

Porches is Reason’s second album and the follow-up to his 2020 debut, New Beginnings. The project saw Reason seamlessly integrate himself into the contemporary hip-hop landscape as he linked up with featured artists like Schoolboy Q, Vince Staples, Rapsody, and Ab-Soul. His debut LP arrived after a series of independently released mixtapes caught TDE’s attention; He initially released There You Have It on his own in 2017, but TDE reissued the project the next year. Also in 2018, he landed an appearance on Black Panther: The Album, one of the year’s most beloved releases.

Check out Reason’s UPROXX Sessions performance of “Call Me” above.

UPROXX Sessions is Uproxx’s performance show featuring the hottest up-and-coming acts you should keep an eye on. Featuring creative direction from LA promotion collective, Ham On Everything, and taking place on our “bathroom” set designed and painted by Julian Gross, UPROXX Sessions is a showcase of some of our favorite performers, who just might soon be yours, too.

Reason Claims No One From TDE Attended “Porches” Listening Party

Reason has made the bombshell claim that not a single person from his record label, TDE, attended a recent listening party for his new album, Porches. The rapper made the claims while guesting on the Rory & Mal podcast on August 18. “That’s what I thought was going to be the weirdest part,” he said, asked if he was worried about label drama ruining the party. “But it ended up not being as bad. I had a release party, and nobody showed up from the label, so…Ray Vaughn showed up — shout out to Ray Vaughn,” he said. “I took it as, you know, maybe n-ggas giving me some space.”

Of course, Reason has not be afraid to bash the label and its President, Moosa, in recent weeks. However, it’s a pretty scathing indictment on the part of the label to send no one to one of their own artist’s listening parties. Porches dropped on August 11 and has been reasonably well-received by the music industry.

Reason’s Beef With TDE Continues

Of course, this is just the latest twist in the saga between artist and label. Last month, Reason openly accused Moosa of fumbling his release. We had certain features lined up that could’ve gone through,” he vented. “We had the budget, we had the feature lined up, takes too long to get pushed through, the feature price ended up going up or something goes away. Content ideas lined up, not executed. Rollout ideas lined up, not executed.”

He continued. “It was a few different things. I had Latto lined up for something, not executed. I had EST Gee lined up, not executed. Like, us not pushing through. Features lined up, we got a price set, video, and verse for the love, takes too long. I’ll speak on the EST Gee shit specifically — took too long to get through to EST Gee and his people and be like, ‘Yo, this is what we wanna do.’ By the time we ended up connecting with him and reaching out, he dropped a record with Future and the record went crazy. Now, the feature is $25,000 more than what it already was.”

TDE’s Reason Announced The Release Date For His Second Album, ‘Porches,’ Featuring Baby Tate, Doechii, And More

Top Dawg Entertainment has entered a new era. With Kendrick Lamar out of his deal, Jay Rock and Schoolboy Q still in the lab, and completed album cycles for Ab-Soul, Isaiah Rashad, and SZA, it’s time for the next generation of TDE artists to step into the spotlight and shine. They are already well on their way; Doechii’s “What It Is” is a viral hit, and now, Reason is prepping his second album after a successful debut with New Beginnings in 2020.

The new album, Porches, is due for an August 11 release and features guest appearances from both fellow TDE artists like Doechii, Ray Vaughn, SiR, and Zacari, and rising stars like Baby Tate and Kalan.FrFr. Reason also shared a nostalgic trailer, the cover art, and tracklist for the project on social media. In a press release, Reason said, “My first album was for the fans. I wanted to give them everything they wanted as a thank you for the support they’ve given. At this moment in my life I needed a lot of love and understanding. Going through the things I went through, those are the two things I needed the most. While I was searching for that, I decided to give an album that spoke to that. Porches is about love and understanding. We’re all connected. We all go through similar trials and battles. I think we can all use more understanding and love throughout that process.”

Porches is due on 8/11 via TDE.

Reason Delivers Incredible Bars On “The Soul Pt. 3”

Reason is going to be dropping a brand-new album in just nine days from now. Overall, the TDE artist is beloved by his fans, and his supporters have been waiting on a new body of work. His last full-length LP was in 2020, and since that time, he has been teasing new music. However, on Tuesday, it was revealed that he would be releasing a 17-track album called Porches. Some great artists will be on the album, including Zacari, SiR, Baby Tate, and even August Alsina, among others.

So far, we have already heard some of the singles from the project. That said, on Wednesday, Reason decided to come through with a new track. If you are a fan of his, you know of his “The Soul” series, which typically is released prior to a new body of work. These tracks never make the final album, which makes them akin to Kendrick Lamar’s “The Heart” series. Having said all of that, “The Soul Pt. 3” has finally arrived, and it does not disappoint.
