Polo G’s Lawyer Calls Miami Police ‘Childish’ Over The Leaked Video Of The Rapper Berating A Cop

A few months ago, it was announced that Polo G’s misdemeanor charges — public servant/influence performance threat and resisting an officer without violence — from his summer 2021 Miami arrest had been dropped. The charges were dropped after Polo G completed an anger management class. Prior to that, the two felony charges from the Miami incident, battery against a police officer and threatening a public servant, had also been dropped. With that being said, it was pretty clear that the saga between Polo G and the Miami PD was over, but that changed when a video of the rapper berating a Miami cop arrived online.

The video captures Polo G questioning and clowning the cop’s lifestyle and mocking his career path, and it’s earned a response from Polo G’s lawyer Bradford Cohen. In a conversation with TMZ, Cohen accused law enforcement of releasing what he describes as “heavily redacted” body cam footage that only features “the parts that disparage the defendant.” Cohen continued, “They didn’t show him getting slammed to the ground or the reason why was pulled over. Of course, they wouldn’t show that.”

Polo G’s lawyer believes that the body cam footage was released because the Miami Police Department is embarrassed about the whole incident. However, TMZ reached out to the Miami PD and a spokesperson said that the department is not responsible for the video’s release. In response, Cohen said there is clearly a leak at the Miami PD. “I have never seen a department react to their malfeasance by disseminating highly edited disparaging video,” he said, adding that the “childish” move is why “a lot of people are losing faith in policing.”

Polo G Berates An Officer In Body Cam Footage From His 2021 Arrest In Miami

No one thinks highly of police officers when they’re sitting handcuffed in the back of a cruiser, but for the Miami officer who arrested Polo G for assault in 2021, his experience was a hardcore exercise in patience considering the eloquence involved when the detainee happens to be a world-class rapper. Recently, body cam footage from the aftermath of the arrest surfaced online, revealing that Polo gave the dressing down of a lifetime to the officer, questioning all the life choices that led him to pursue his present career path.

“I’m just sayin’, do you got $10,000 in your bank account right now?” Polo inquests. “‘Cause if you die right now, what could you give your kids? If you die right now, what could you give the lady that you in bed with? What could you give to your mama? Have you ever bought yo mama anything? Did you buy yo mama a car? Did you buy yo mama a house? I did that.” The officer humbly replies, “Good for you, bro. I’m glad you did that… I would love to do that one day.” In his own fiery response, Polo posits that it’s unlikely as a police officer — something Polo seems very disdainful about.

Fortunately for the Chicago rapper, a pair of felony charges were dropped shortly after the incident, and the remaining misdemeanors were dropped earlier this year after he completed an anger management course. Hopefully, he can avoid any future run-ins with the police, but woe be unto any officers thinking they can flex on this rapper — they might end up being on the receiving end of one anti-motivational speech.

Polo G Looks To Eliminate Every ‘Distraction’ In His New Video

Polo G announced his new single “Distraction” with a comical trailer on Instagram where famed TikToker Kai Cenat is shown going mad trying to find the source of a song playing. He ultimately finds his headphones and places them on his ears only to then be blown away by the music that pierces through them. It is now clear why he was so consumed, as the new visual shows Polo G in the back of a police car after being arrested, graduating, beating up an online streamer, and performing surgery all before enjoying dinner with a woman. The refrain closes with “Bring out the best in me or be a distraction,” bringing the messaging of the record and accompanying video full circle.

“Distraction” is Polo’s first proper 2022 release after the Billboard 200 chart-topping success Hall Of Fame from last summer, notably beating out the Migos’ Culture III which arrived that same weekend. The Chicago rapper then released the deluxe version, Hall Of Fame 2.0, less than six months later. Though the video for “Don’t Play” featuring Lil Baby from the deluxe did release this year, the 23-year-old otherwise stuck to collaborations with Fivio Foreign and PGF Nuk before unloading the new, focused single.

Polo G Announces His New Single ‘Distraction’ With A Comedic Trailer

The last project we got from Polo G, the deluxe version of his 2021 album Hall Of Fame, dropped in December, but he’s already prepping the rollout for his next one. The Chicago rapper shared a comedic trailer for his upcoming single, “Distraction,” recruiting YouTuber Kai Cenat for a minute-long sketch previewing the new song. In it, Kai can be seen performing a variety of chores around his house like vacuuming, cleaning the toilet, and taking out the trash, while being distracted by a snippet of the song.

After he nearly goes crazy searching for the source of the music, asking his son, accosting a neighborhood kid, and chucking his boombox out the window, he finally locates a pair of headphones and puts them on, only to have his face blown back as a longer snippet plays.

Although Polo hasn’t put out any solo music since Hall Of Fame 2.0, he has kept the buzz for that project strong by releasing videos for songs like “Unapologetic” with NLE Choppa; “Heating Up” featuring Yungliv; “Start Up Again” featuring Moneybagg Yo; and “Don’t Play” with Lil Baby. He also appeared on Fivio Foreign’s new album, B.I.B.L.E.

“Distraction” is out on June 3 via Columbia Records.
