President Biden Signs Executive Order for Police Reform on Second Anniversary of George Floyd’s Death

Biden entertainment industry

On the second anniversary of George Floyd’s death, President Joe Biden signed an executive order aimed at changing policing procedures.

The directive establishes a national register of officers who have been dismissed for wrongdoing and urges state and local law enforcement to tighten chokehold and no-knock warrant limits. According to NBC News, it also prohibits military equipment from being transferred to law enforcement agencies and requires all federal agents to wear activated body cams.

The new executive order comes after Congress failed to provide bipartisan support to the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

“I know progress can be slow and frustrating, and there’s a concern that the reckoning on race inspired two years ago is beginning to fade,” Biden said. “Today, we’re acting. We’re showing that speaking out matters, being engaged matters, and that the work of our time, healing the soul of this nation, is ongoing and unfinished and requires all of us never to give up. Always to keep the faith.”

NYC Mayor Eric Adams Reportedly Weighs Presidential Bid In 2024

NYC Mayor Eric Adams

NYC Mayor Eric Adams reportedly has his sights set on the White House. The New York Post reports City Hall insiders say the 61-year-old Democrat believes the national party has swung too far to the left, and that he has a platform to win the presidency in 2024.

The paper quotes an elected official in Brooklyn with ties to the mayor, who says Adams is “considering a White House run” if President Biden does not seek re-election.

Should Adams run, he would be the fourth consecutive New York City mayor to seek the nation’s highest office, following in the footsteps of Bill de Blasio, Michael Bloomberg and Rudy Giuliani.

According to the New York Post, Mayor Adams is not interested in focusing on a presidential campaign.

“That’s a silly, silly story. I never had a conversation about that and I love being mayor, and you can run the country from New York City. I’m the mayor. That’s all I’m focused on.”

Most of the victims in Saturday’s mass shooting were Black, and the alleged gunman, identified as Payton Gendron is a white male. Officials say the 18-year-old suspect drove from near the Pennsylvania state line to commit the attack and livestreamed the attack on Twitch.

NBC News reports a manifesto allegedly written by Gendron was posted on Google Docs Thursday night. The document allegedly lays out plans to attack Black people, and promotes conspiracy theory claims that white people are being replaced by minorities in the U.S.

Harris stated that “the certainty of fundamental principles,” like territorial integrity and bodily autonomy, are being called into question. She ended the speech by congratulating the class of 2022 on their achievements despite the ongoing pandemic.

“Here in the United States, we are once again forced to defend fundamental principles that we hoped were long settled; principles like the freedom to vote, the rights of women to make decisions about their own body, what constitutes the truth,” she said.

Harris is also set to give a commencement speech May 18 at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Share your thoughts with us on social media.

Donald Trump Held in Contempt of Court During New York Hearing

Donald Trump Hints at Possible 2024 Presidential Run

On Monday, former US President Donald Trump was found in contempt of court. A New York judge decided that Trump refused to comply with the state Attorney General’s request for his financial records as part of the inquiry into his enterprises.

According to Politico, Judge Arthur Engoron has ordered Trump to pay $10,000 every day until he obeys Attorney General Tish James’ subpoena for documents. The ruling comes after James filed a contempt action earlier this month.

“Mr. Trump, I know you take your business seriously, and I take mine seriously,” Judge Engoron said at New York County Supreme Court.

James and Trump have been engaged in proceedings for three years. Throughout this time, Trump has provided misleading assets and statements. Additional resistance from the Trump Family includes fighting requested testimony. James would like Trump and his children Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr. to take participate in the questioning. This past February, the Trump family appealed a decision by Judge Engoron for testimony.

In February, Trump made headlines for applauding Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. “Here’s a guy who’s very savvy … I know him very well,” Trump said about Putin. “Very, very well. By the way, this never would have happened with us. Had I been in office, not even thinkable. This would never have happened.”

Trump congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin for declaring two eastern Ukrainian areas independent and describing the invasion as a “peacekeeping” mission. “I said, ‘This is genius.’ Putin declares a big portion of Ukraine, Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful,” Trump said. “So, Putin is now saying, ‘It’s independent,’ a large section of Ukraine. I said, ‘How smart is that?”
