J. Cole’s “Let Me Calm Down” Feature On Nicki Minaj’s “Pink Friday 2” Continues His Impressive Run

There are few mainstream rappers whom Nicki Minaj hasn’t collaborated with, and on Friday (December 8), she crossed a few names off her dream list thanks to the release of her first LP since 2018. On Pink Friday 2, not only do we hear the Trinidadian reconnect with past frequent collaborators like Drake and Lil Wayne, but she and J. Cole also came together for the first time on a track called “Let Me Calm Down.”

Overproduction by ATL Jacob, Hendrix Smoke, and Kujibeats, we hear both lyricists reflect on their problematic relationship dynamics. “My heart sayin’ I love him while I’m screamin’ that I hate him / And ain’t no more debatin’, this time, it’s a ultimatum,” Minaj begins her verse, pouring her heart into every word. “I wrote a line for you and it was beautiful / I made a sign for you to say you’re beautiful / You’re so, so irresistible / Take me to somewhere mystical,” she continues on the chorus.

J. Cole and Nicki Minaj Collab for the First Time on “Let Me Calm Down”

For his part, Cole unsurprisingly continues his streak of killing every feature he’s been on this year. “Uh, havin’ her ain’t for the faint of heart / She bad as f**k but hard to deal with, and it ain’t her fault,” he gasses up the woman in his life. “She got ambition like the ni**as, and the vision for herself / So she can’t rest until she feel like she done made her mark.”

“Pink Friday 2” Projected To Top Album Chart, Breaks Spotify Record For Female Hip-Hop

Pink Friday 2 is expected to debut at No. 1 when it becomes chart-eligible next week. According to HDD, the album’s first-week projections currently sit at a very strong 170,000-190,000 units. That should be more than enough to see Pink Friday 2 jump right to the top of the Billboard chart. If that becomes the case, it will be Nicki Minaj’s first No. 1 album since Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded in 2012. Both The Pinkprint and Queen peaked at No. 2 in 2014 and 2018 respectively.

Furthermore, per Chart Data on X, Pink Friday 2 has broken Spotify’s record for a female hip-hop debut on the platform. The album is also currently at No. 1 on Apple Music’s real-time chart. The previous record was held by a pair of Doja Cat albums – Scarlet and Planet Her. The Barbz, of course, are absolutely over the moon about the success of Pink Friday 2.

Charlamagne Tha God Thinks Nicki Minaj Needed More Rollout For Pink Friday 2

Pink Friday 2 is already receiving high praise from across the industry. However, Charlamagne Tha God thought that the album didn’t get enough hype before release. “I hate that this album didn’t have a bigger rollout. We knew it was coming out but it’s Nicki Minaj. Whoever she’s signed to…Nicki needed and deserved a bigger rollout. She got records on this album. Why wouldn’t a single come out? Why wouldn’t a big video come out?” Charlemagne said on The Breakfast Club. Later in the conversation, he accused Nicki’s label of not having enough of a plan for the release. He noted this was especially apparent when she had to move the release date due to ColleGrove 2.

Pink Friday 2 did have two singles preceding its release. However, both were released well before the album was either announced or its release date revealed. Furthermore, as Charlamagne said, the album is stacked with big-name features such as Drake, and Future. However, the only thing those tracks received before the album was controversy. Additionally, while the album was also preceded by the AI fan collaboration “Gag City”, Charlamagne is right in arguing that Pink Friday 2 got a surprisingly muted release.

“Nicki Hendrix” Finds Future & Nicki Minaj In Their Element: Stream

2023 has been been one of the strongest years for female rap in recent memory. Creatives like Doja Cat, Flo Milli, and Megan Thee Stallion are among those holding down the industry in recent months. Now that the final weeks of December are here, the remaining New Music Friday arrivals are trickling in. Nicki Minaj made sure we ended on a high note yesterday (December 8) with her first LP since 2018’s Queen. After a few delays, Pink Friday 2 officially hit DSPs in all its glory, complete with features from Drake, Lil, Wayne, and Future. The latter appears on “Nicki Hendrix,” which finds both artists in their feelings over relationships gone awry.

“I knew you was somethin’ serious, wanted to protect you / Never upset you, just wanted to sex you,” the Atlanta-based performer admits on the first verse. Afterward, Future continues on the chorus, crooning about not being as different from the woman in his life as she may think. In the latter half of “Nicki Hendrix,” the mother of one shows out, confidently reminding listeners that she’s the prize.

Trinidad Meets Atlanta on “Nicki Hendrix”

“Baby, did you think there were a million mes? / I guess I underestimated you-ooh too,” she asks the person causing her heart to be in pain. “I thought you were smarter / This pussy taste like water / I would’ve had your daughter, had your empire in order / Now you ain’t even a starter,” her clever raps continue.

Listen to one of Pink Friday 2‘s must-hear tracks above. If you’re feeling Nicki Minaj and Future’s work on “Nicki Hendrix,” you can listen to the full LP on Spotify/Apple Music. Charlamagne Tha God Thinks “Pink Friday 2” Needed A Better Rollout

Charlamagne Tha God has given his thoughts about the approach Nicki Minaj took toward releasing Pink Friday 2. “I hate that this album didn’t have a bigger rollout. We need it was coming out but it’s Nicki Minaj. Whoever she’s signed to…Nicki needed and deserved a bigger rollout. She got records on this album. Why wouldn’t a single come out? Charlamagne Tha God Calls On Joe Biden To Step Down Ahead Of 2024

However, critiquing the rollout of Pink Friday 2 isn’t the only thing Charlamagne has done recently. While hosting The Daily Show, Charlamagne Tha God said that Joe Biden could deliver “the perfect Christmas gift” by dropping out of the 2024 election. “The point is, we don’t need Biden to beat Donald Trump — just like we didn’t need RBG to stay on the court. Maybe if RBG had retired during the Obama years, we’d still have Roe v. Wade. Maybe. People said, ‘No, she needs to be there to protect Roe,’ and now look, both of them are gone. It’s true, they’re both gone,” he added. “See, the facts are: Biden’s not getting any younger, he’s not going to get any more popular, and he’s not getting a new running mate. So please Mr. President, give America the ultimate Christmas gift and step aside,” Charlamagne said.

Concerns about Biden’s age, as well as his plummeting popularity with younger voters, have Democrats worried about Biden continuing to run as the incumbent. Biden’s support of Israel, as well as general economic stagnation in the country, has seen young voters turn towards independent candidates. While it doesn’t endanger a major vote split, it could be enough of a vote siphon to cost Biden key states.

Is Travis Scott On Nicki Minaj’s ‘Pink Birthday’ From ‘Pink Friday 2?’

Nicki Minaj returned last night with her highly-awaited Pink Friday 2 album and it is stacked with collaborations. Most of the tracklist and features had been kept under wraps until the album’s official midnight release, giving a true surprise for listeners. One of the songs, “Pink Birthday,” is catching the attention of listeners, for the fact that Travis Scott appears to be on it.

Here’s more of what to know when it comes to the song.

Is Travis Scott On Nicki Minaj’s “Pink Birthday” From Pink Friday 2?

Much like Minaj’s opening track “Are You Gone Already” where she samples a song by Billie Eilish, she does the same thing with Travis Scott on “Pink Birthday.” She used the opening track, “Pornography,” from Scott’s album, Rodeo. He also approved the sample, giving it another layer to the song.

“Travis Scott cleared his vocals for it,” she posted. “That’s his voice on it. It sounds kinda like an instrument. I didn’t know until I had alrdy recorded & fell in love with it tho. I was like he not gon clear it.”

Before Nicki Minaj dropped her album, Pink Friday 2, last night, she had kept a lot of the details surrounding it under wraps. Between the full tracklist and the collaborations, fans were in for a complete surprise when they went to go press play.

The record’s opening track, “Are You Gone Already,” has raised some questions. Throughout the song, listeners can hear Billie Eilish’s voice, sparking questions as to whether she had a feature on the album.

Here’s what to know.

Is Billie Eilish On Nicki Minaj’s “Are You Gone Already” From Pink Friday 2?

Billie Eilish can be heard on Nicki Minaj’s “Are You Gone Already,” as the song features a sample of the pop star’s 2019 song, “When The Party’s Over.” Minaj had teased her love for the opening track, as well as Eilish’s presence, before the record’s official release.

“Welp that did it for me… crying in less than 25 seconds of the intro,” she wrote on Twitter. “Again. Finneas, if this finds you in #GagCity, God bless you… I haven’t even been able to tell you about ALL the geniuses on this project. Ppl I really love. Ppl who love music. Ppl who inspire me to be better.”

Last night, Nicki Minaj dropped her anticipated Pink Friday 2 album. Spanning 22 tracks, the record highlighted collaborations with Drake, J. Cole, and many more. However, that doesn’t seem to be all. Minaj has been teasing that there will be a deluxe version — and here’s what to know about it.

When Will Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 Deluxe Come Out?

Minaj revealed that starting either Monday or Tuesday of next week, she’ll be dropping one track per day. This would continue until next Friday, providing four songs in total to complete the project. While it’s still TBA if there will be any other songs that will count toward a Pink Friday 2 deluxe after this, at the very least, fans will get to hear even more new music.

She also dropped some hints about two of the potential added features on the bonus tracks for next week. “Two of the names on a very important song rhyme with Schmechia Schmole & Schmonica,” Minaj wrote. (It’s Keyshia Cole and Monica.)

Based on this teaser alone, fans are extremely excited to hear the new collab — and any other surprises Minaj will have in store.

Check out her post about the schedule for next week below.

What Was Nicki Minaj’s Debut Single?

Nicki Minaj has shaped the sound and aesthetic of hip-hop time and time again. However, with the release of Pink Friday 2, the rapper provided fans with a glimpse into the future while embracing the sounds that took her to the top of the charts. Before becoming the cultural titan that she is, many witnessed the steps that she took in her come-up, from working alongside Gucci Mane to becoming the First Lady of Young Money. However, it was the single, “Massive Attack” that showcased how she could impact the charts. With assistance from Sean Garrett, this track highlighted her distinct style and became the cornerstone for her unparalleled trajectory.

Composition Of “Massive Attack”

“Massive Attack,” released in 2010, exhibited a fusion of infectious beats, bold lyrics, and Minaj’s unapologetic presence. The song’s pulsating rhythm, combined with Sean Garrett’s collaborative prowess, created an eclectic mix that captivated fans, both new and old. Minaj’s signature flow, in conjunction with Garrett’s production, marked a departure from conventional rap. It presented a bold and dynamic sonic experience that ultimately helped Nicki develop her signature sound.

While “Massive Attack” didn’t replicate the chart-topping success of some later releases, it played a pivotal role in introducing Nicki Minaj as a solo entity. The song managed to garner significant attention, peaking at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the Hot Rap Song chart. Ultimately, it laid the groundwork for her subsequent releases. Since its release, it’s earned a Platinum certification by the RIAA, selling over 1 million copies in the United States.

“Massive Attack” served as a critical stepping stone in Nicki Minaj’s career trajectory. The song’s release marked her transition from a featured artist and mixtape sensation to a solo force to be reckoned with. While not a chart-topping sensation, the track solidified Minaj’s individuality and laid the groundwork for her forthcoming musical endeavors.

Evolution From “Massive Attack” To Eminence

Minaj’s early single helped propel her into the mainstream consciousness. It set the tone for her boundary-pushing artistry and established her as a dynamic and unconventional figure within the male-dominated landscape of hip-hop. The track’s impact contributed significantly to the narrative of Minaj as an artist carving her path, unafraid to challenge norms and expectations.

In retrospect, “Massive Attack” stands as Nicki Minaj’s pivotal debut single, marking the commencement of her solo journey. Its bold composition, despite not dominating the charts, laid the groundwork for Minaj’s emergence as a transformative figure in music. This initial release, characterized by its daring style and collaborative efforts, acted as a precursor to her subsequent groundbreaking releases, solidifying her status as an icon within the rap and pop genres.

Cardi B’s “Invasion Of Privacy” Charts Following Nicki Minaj’s “Pink Friday 2” Release

Today, Nicki Minaj unveiled her eagerly-anticipated new album, Pink Friday 2. The LP boasts various high-profile features from the likes of J. Cole, Lil Uzi Vert, Future, Lil Wayne, and more. So far, the Barbz are satisfied with what Nicki’s come through with after months of teasing, however, it also seems to have invoked the fanbase of one of her longtime rivals, Cardi B.

Shortly after Nicki released her new album, Cardi B’s album Invasion of Privacy began to climb the charts once again. Her 2018 debut is surely a fan favorite, however, this appears to be less than coincidental. Their fanbases are known to go head-to-head regularly, and Cardi’s supporters may be trying to bolster her amid the success of Nicki’s latest project.

Invasion Of Privacy Going Head To Head With Pink Friday 2

This wouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, as the Barbz have already been speculating that Cardi was trying to sabotage her release with faux relationship drama. Earlier this week, both Cardi B and her husband Offset posted vague references to trust in relationships, leading to speculation that they’ve gone their separate ways. They’ve yet to confirm this. “You know sometimes you just outgrow relationships,” Cardi wrote. “I’m tired of protecting people’s feelings… I GOTTA PUT MYSELF FIRST.”

Offset went on to post a clip from Scarface, which shows Al Pacino’s character saying, “Hey, f*ck you, man! Who put this thing together? Me. That’s who. Who do I trust? Me.” Almost immediately, fans started speculating that the whole thing was a hoax to distract from “Nicki week.” What do you think of Cardi B’s 2018 debut album Invasion of Privacy reentering the charts following the release of Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2? How are you liking Nicki’s new album so far? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.
