Late last month, West Philadelphia rapper YBC Dul was fatally shot in a drive-by. Now, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer, an arrest has been made. The outlet reports that 16-year-old Aiden Waters was taken into custody and hit with several charges. These include murder, arson, causing catastrophe, conspiracy, and gun crimes. Authorities say they found Waters’ getaway car the night YBC Dul was shot. It had been burned, but reportedly, detectives were still able to recover evidence inside.
Aside from fatally shooting YBC Dul, Waters is accused of shooting into a car full of teenagers last month, striking two and killing one. For this, he’s been charged with five counts of attempted murder. Police also believe he was responsible for another shooting that took place hours before YBC Dul was murdered. A 43-year-old man and a 14-year-old were shot in the abdomen and leg, respectively, and both survived.
Reportedly, Waters was arraigned this morning and is now being held without bail. Following YBC Dul’s tragic death, his father took to social media with a message about his passing. “Hey all of my son friends / family.. etc i am dul’s father,” he began. “I was handed over all my babyboys belongs this morning by his close friends & I wanted to clear up any confusion my son Abdul Vicks was murdered yesterday afternoon broad daylight while sitting in the back of his car alongside with his friend who was also shot in the hand my son was not on a bike when he was killed nothing of that such so that video going around is not him stop the false news.”

One of the most notorious moments in his career was when he filmed himself digging up a rival’s grave. It was a move that rattled the internet. Many considered it an act of desecration that marked a declaration of war without a boundary in sight.
The Controversy Behind the Music: A Life Cut Short
The day before his death, YBC Dul appeared in a video that showcased his violent reputation. In it, he flaunted guns and spoke candidly about the ongoing gang war in West Philly. This video, uploaded to a popular YouTube channel, quickly reached over a million views in a matter of days. The timing of the video’s release and Dul’s subsequent murder led many to speculate whether his own actions had sealed his fate.
Vicks was shot multiple times while in the Olney neighborhood. He later succumbed to his injuries shortly after being rushed to Einstein Medical Center. Philadelphia native Meek Mill has been an outspoken advocate for uplifting the city, especially among young people from marginalized communities. He didn’t specifically mention Dul but his statement shortly after his passing has been perceived about him. His tweet suggested that the fatal broad day shooting should be a cautionary tale. “If you talk about your own dead ancestors, you curse your own soul! Stop that speaking on the dead ….. The Infamy Of Young Bag Chasers
The Young Bag Chasers, the crew YBC Dul was deeply involved with, have long been on the radar of Philadelphia authorities. The group’s notoriety stems not only from their music but also from their alleged involvement in a string of violent incidents across the city. Members of YBC, including Dul, have been linked to numerous shootings and arrests.
YBC’s violent reputation was underscored earlier in 2023 when Arshad Curry, another YBC-affiliated rapper, was convicted of a triple homicide. Curry’s conviction, along with the arrest of another YBC member, Quamere Hall (known as Mere Pablo), for a separate murder, highlighted the crew’s deep entanglement in the city’s ongoing gang violence. The Philadelphia District Attorney’s office even went so far as to rebrand YBC as “You Been Charged” and later “You Been Convicted,” reflecting the legal reckoning that was beginning to catch up with the group.
Earlier this week, one Philadelphia woman’s trip to a local Dollar Tree turned traumatic when an unknown man ejaculated on her leg. But you gotta connect,” he wrote. “Just go live with him don’t pursue him … it gotta actually be you,” he added in a subsequent Tweet. “Philly small people know where this creep a** dude at ghtfoh… We need community protection also.” Meek’s posts have earned mixed reactions from his followers, who are sounding off in the rapper’s replies. Most can’t blame him for trying to take justice into his own hands considering the circumstances. Some, on the other hand, think he shouldn’t have shared his idea publicly.

A truly unsettling and disgusting crime is currently under investigation in Philadelphia after a man was caught on video ejaculating onto a woman’s leg in a local Dolla Tree. The footage is all over the internet right now and we can only imagine what this innocent lady is going through. According to NBC10 Philadelphia, it happened at the 56 E. Snyder Ave. location. Store employees spoke with the Philadelphia Police Department Specials Victims Unit and told them that this man visits the Snyder Plaza where their establishment is. Additionally, he is generally around the local I-95 underpass, which is a possible spot where is vehicle could be.
This Philadelphia man was described to the authorities as someone in the 25–30-year-old range. He measures out to be at least 6’0″ tall, “stocky build, a short receding hairline and a full beard”. Finally, he was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, gray shorts and black sneakers. Not helping the man’s case is that the shirt spells an equally gross phrase, “IT’S NOT GOING TO LICK ITSELF”.

This past weekend, Jay-Z and his company Roc Nation announced their “Dine & Learn” series to promote $300 million in scholarships for low-income Philadelphia households. The money is meant to help underprivileged youth bypass the public school system and attend prestigious private schools instead. On the surface, it seems like another of Jay-Z’s philanthropic ventures, maybe even an extension of his scholarship-giving Shawn Carter Foundation. But the Brooklyn-born rapper has come under fire for the seemingly selfless move. If you dig a little bit beneath the surface, the criticisms start to gain weight. All may not be as it seems with these latest Jay-Z-Roc Nation scholarships.
What many suspect is happening here is that Jay-Z is leveraging his influence and power to host and promote a 10-event series about a Republican-backed educational bill. These events aim to inform residents about Senate Bill 757, or the “Pennsylvania Award for Student Success” (PASS). This is what many perceive to essentially be a Republican school voucher program. The program would reportedly reroute $300 million in taxpayer dollars to fund charter and private schools.
On one hand, the program allows students to move out of an underfunded and failing school system. On the other, that’s $300 million that those same public schools will never see – and that private schools will essentially be handed. And then there’s the question of what will happen to those who don’t win any Jay-Z and Roc Nation-backed scholarships.

Another strange part of this whole announcement is that it means Jay-Z is pairing up with Jeff Yass. The Philadelphia native is a billionaire conservative and a major investor in TikTok. Commentators have speculated that Yass influenced Trump’s side-switching on the TikTok ban bill that went through Congress earlier this year. After meeting with Yass at Mar-a-Lago in March, Trump flipped from supporting a ban on the app to opposing a ban.
Jeff Yass is also well-known for an anti-public school stance, pushing school choice policies and programs. Essentially, these policies and programs give families options for schooling beyond their local district. So, the public has been left wondering why Jay-Z would ever pair up with Yass. Critics argue that the PASS bill has an underhanded goal of diverting and exhausting public school funding. Why exactly would Jay-Z and Roc Nation support these scholarships?
Well, truthfully, all we have at the moment is Roc Nation’s public comments. The company’s CEO, Desiree Perez, told the media that “what we are backing is education…We’re just educating [people], which I would think everyone wants people to make informed decisions.” So, the company’s current stance is that they are simply spreading awareness for educational options in Philadelphia. Still, many city residents aren’t so sure a school voucher program is the correct way to handle the situation. Later in her HuffPost interview, Perez stated “The kids in these zip codes are suffering right now. If you have a better solution, aside from making them wait until the public school system can get it together with the funding they are receiving, I am all ears.”
The Philadephia public school system’s situation is quite complex, and the public has reacted with varying nuanced opinions on Jay-Z’s involvement. Some have said that letting some low-income youth attend private schools ultimately hurts the majority left behind. Others have said that Jay-Z is simply trying to help level the playing field since $300 million wouldn’t fix Philadelphia’s public schools. This is far from the first time Roc Nation has shown its commitment to the city of Philadelphia, however. The company has been working alongside REFORM Alliance for five years with the goal of transforming the state’s probation and parole system. It’s also put on the Made in America Festival regularly since 2012. Unfortunately, the music festival was been canceled both this year and in 2023. It promises, however, to make “an exciting return” in the coming years.

Meek Mill remarked that his hometown of Philadelphia is a “terrible place for Black people to live” in a post on Twitter, on Monday, while reacting to the death of local rapper Phat Geez. Geez was shot and killed on Sunday night on the 1200 block of N. Taney Street. Police have yet to identify a suspect in the case.
“Rip phat geez…..Philly is a terrible place for black people to live… you see too much death!!!! Smh,” Meek wrote. On his Instagram Story, he added: “If Phat really got killed in the holy month of Ramadan while fasting…. I think it’s time we fully break the streets up in Philly! A lot of dummies with guns!”

In another post, he shared the music video to the late rapper’s song, “No Gunzone.” He wrote: “Phat Geez – No Gunzone (Official Video) via @YouTube I never heard this til your passing … just give a listen to how hurt and torn about trying to survive Philly the streets these young black men are! Just listen to the words of when you know you’re gonna go to jail if you carry a gun and the reality of how easy it is to lose your whole life for no reason to murder!” In more posts, he brought up PnB Rock, another Philadelphia rapper who died in 2022 at the hands of gun violence. While he was killed in Los Angeles, Meek related it back to his reputation in Philly.

Wale has announced the lineup for his Walemania 2024 event, which is set for April 4 at the Franklin Music Hall in Philadelphia. DJ Whoo Kid, Armani White, Connie Diiamond, Nick Papz and Cory Townes have all been announced to attend the pre-Wrestlemania event. “Walemania is truly one of the highlights of the big wrestling weekend and I love that we get to help kick it off right one more time,” event host and Ringer journalist Kazeem Famuyide said. However, someone else expected to attend Wrestlemania is Sixers star Joel Embiid. Last year, the NBA fined Joel Embiid $35K for “repeatedly making an obscene gesture on the playing court”. The gesture in question was the “DX Crotch Chop”, something first seen in the WWE by the D-Generation X stable. Embiid was fined $25K for making the same gesture in a similar situation against the Nets in January 2023.
Despite being out $35K, Embiid has gotten an invaluable invitation out of the moment. After news of the fine broke, Triple H, one of the best down DX wrestlers, hit Embiid up on Twitter. Offset is setting off his SET IT OFF tour in Philadelphia tonight (Sunday, March 10), and wants to give the youth a warm welcome to his trek. Moreover, he teamed up with Million Dollaz Worth Of Game leaders Gillie and Wallo to host a shopping spree for kids in the area. From what a brief clip of the event shows, it seems like a very intimate, casual, grounded, wholesome, and pleasant experience for everyone involved. Sometimes, initiatives like these can become chaotic quick, but it’s clear that everyone here is very appreciative of the opportunity and of the significance of giving back to one’s supporters.
What’s more is that the former Migo recently spoke on how the youth’s creativity, hard work, and talent inspires him, using his tween son Jordan as an example. “That’s the main role,” Offset said of fatherhood. This was during a candid appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, on which he discussed a lot of personal topics and heartfelt reflections. “It’s my thoughts when I’m walking, and when I’m doing everything. I’m always thinking about it. Because I represent them, I don’t just represent me no more.
“My father, I love him,” the Without Warning spitter continued. “Ain’t no hate towards him. But unfortunately, he couldn’t be there. So, I made sure I gave a promise to myself, when I was a kid, before I even had kids, that no matter any circumstance, I’m always going to be there for my children, and it shows.” Then, Offset shared how surprised he was upon finding out that he passed his musical talent to Jordan.
