The Fugees’ Reunion Was A Shock To Pras

Following the Fugees’ recent reunion at the 2023 Roots Picnic, sources shared some behind-the-scenes info with TMZ Hip Hop. A representative for Pras revealed that the performance came as a surprise to the artist, who is currently awaiting sentencing for recent charges of conspiracy and fraud. The source also shared that the trio didn’t have an opportunity to rehearse prior to the last-minute performance, which featured six songs from their 1996 LP, The Score. Many fans speculated that the reunion could have been the last they saw of the Fugees for a while, however, sources suggest they “stay tuned!!!”

In April, Pras was found guilty of 10 charges surrounding an alleged international conspiracy plot. Though he has not yet been sentenced, his charges could leave him spending over 20 years behind bars. “We are extremely disappointed in that result. But are very, very confident in the ultimate outcome of this case,” Pras’ lawyer David Kenner stated following the verdict. “If we do move to a sentencing hearing I remain very confident we will certainly appeal this case. This is not over.”

In August of last year, the Fugees canceled their scheduled reunion tour, citing COVID-19 as the cause. The cancelation came amid Pras’ legal trouble, leading to speculation that it had more to do with the artist’s legal battle than the group was letting on. Amid the battle, Pras has also faced accusations that he was an FBI informant. He has continuously shot down the allegations.

“Look, I was never in the past, present, or future an FBI or a CIA informant. Never ever. If people want to check it out, look at the testimonies. They could see that all within the records, and all the DC courts,” he stated last month. He also said, “This is not a Tekashi 6ix9ine situation, respectfully.” “Because he admitted he was an informant, basically. So I was never. I never said I was,” Pras claims, “I am not now and never will be an FBI or a CIA informant.”

Kendrick Lamar Brings Out Clones For Primavera Sound Performance

Kendrick Lamar used a group of look-alikes for his performance at the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona over the weekend. Many on social media noted that the show was similar to Eminem’s iconic performance at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards, in which he brought out dozens of his own look-alikes at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall while performing “The Real Slim Shady.”

The doppelgängers arrived while Lamar and Baby Keem performed their Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers song “Savior.” On the stage, the clones rocked white T-shirts, black overalls, and glasses.

If the move was a reference to Eminem, it wouldn’t be Lamar’s first time praising the legendary rapper. Speaking with GQ back in 2016, Lamar credited Eminem with greatly influencing his own artistry. “I got my clarity just studying Eminem when I was a kid. How I got in the studio was all just curiosity. I had a love for the music, but it was curiosity,” he said at the time. “The day I heard The Marshall Mathers LP, I was just like, How does that work? What is he doing? How is he putting his words together like that? What’s the track under that? An ad-lib? What is that? And then, Why don’t you go in the studio and see? So I do that. Then it became, How are his words cutting through the beat like that? What is he doing that I’m not doing, now that I’m into it? His time is impeccable. When he wants to fall off the beat, it’s impeccable. These are things that, through experience and time, I had to learn.”

Even on Lamar’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers cut, “We Cry Together,” there appears to be a notable connection to Eminem’s “Kim.” Check out Lamar’s recent performance at Primavera Sound Festival here.

Janet Jackson Makes Out With Backup Dancer Onstage

Janet Jackson recently shared a steamy onstage kiss with one of her backup dancers, Darius “Dario” Boatner. The make-out took place at one of the 57-year-old’s recent stops on her Together Again tour. The incident wasn’t the first time Jackson got “Nasty” on her tour. Last month, Janet turned some heads when she gave her audience a sensual, hands-on performance with another dancer, Mariusz Maniek Kotarski. Though viewers had mixed reactions to the passionate moment, most felt as though it was a necessary part of Jackson’s act.

“So I guess she not getting back with Jermaine,” one social media user comments on a clip of the kiss. Another claims Janet is “too old” for the onstage antics. “Y’all so cute lol,” one fan responds to haters, “Ma’am has BEEN doing this for ages. Who cares how old she is, she’s selling out shows and having fun. I’m here for it motha.”

Jackson’s Show Gets Freaky

Janet Jackson is joined by Ludacris on her current tour. Last month, Lil Kim filled in for the “Rollout” performer at the Allentown, Pennsylvania stop of the tour. After the show, Janet shared a heartfelt moment with Jackson backstage. “She represented me, a hood girl! I’m from the hood. I knew I could rap, but I was like, I wanted to do something different,” she said about the performer. Lil Kim continued, “I didn’t want to be the normal rapper. I love MC Lyte, I love Salt-N-Pepa, I love Queen Latifah – but I was like, ‘I want to do something different! I want to be a rap Janet Jackson.’”

Jackson was also joined by Busta Rhymes on the tour last month. They performed “What’s It Gonna Be?!” and Ludacris shared with the audience how the collaboration came out. He explained that he was driving when he heard Jackson on the radio claiming she’d like to collaborate with him, and how it almost led to him crashing his car. He later took to social media to thank her and call her a “queen.”

The Fugees Reunite For What Could Be The Final Time At The Roots Picnic

Pras Michel, Lauryn Hill, and Wyclef Jean of The Fugees all reunited to perform at the 2023 Roots Picnic in Philadelphia on Saturday night. The performance comes as Pras Michel faces 20 years in prison for his connection to the 1 Malaysia Development Berhad scandal. He is accused of pumping millions of dollars from Malaysian businessman Low Taek Jho into Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign.

On stage Saturday, the group performed a six-song set that included “Killing Me Softly” as well as “Fu-Gee-La,” and more of their hits. Depending on the sentencing of Pras, it could be the final time they all take the stage together.

While Pras was in attendance for the event, some users on social media noted that he didn’t appear in the best of spirits. Responding to one clip of the show, a fan wrote on Twitter: “Damn Pras looks kinda sad… Probably not feelin right after everything that happened recently.”

Pras was found guilty of conspiracy to defraud the US, witness tampering, and acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign government back in April. A sentencing date wasn’t set at the time, but Pras’ lawyer, David Kenner, told reporters the team remains confident mistrial motions will work out for them. “We are extremely disappointed in that result. But are very, very confident in the ultimate outcome of this case,” Kenner said at the time, according to CNN. “If we do move to a sentencing hearing I remain very confident we will certainly appeal this case. This is not over.”

The Fugees Perform Together

The Fugees previously attempted to schedule a tour in honor of the 25th anniversary of the release of The Score. A first tour was canceled as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Plans for a rescheduling were later put on hold indefinitely due to Pras’ legal troubles.

Skrillex Remixes Nicki Minaj And Ice Spice’s “Princess Diana”

Skrillex recently took the stage at Movement Detroit to share his new remix of Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s collab, “Princess Diana.” An attendee later shared a clip of the performance on Twitter, where fans chimed in. The unexpected crossover has mixed reviews, but Minaj gave Skrillex her stamp of approval. “#PrincessDiana being remixed by @skrillex is crazyyyyy,” Minaj wrote on her Instagram Story alongside the clip. She added a green check mark emoji, letting him know she approves. Skrillex also previously did a remix of Ice Spice’s Like..? track, “In Ha Mood.”

“BRU WHATTTTTTT,” one viewer commented on the clip, adding a shocked emoji. Several other fans insisted that the remix be put on streaming services immediately. One asks, “What we gotta do to get that @Skrillex version of #PrincessDianaRemix on a streaming platform??” Another demands, “drop the Princess Diana Remix NOW.” “MY GOD THIS GOES SO HARD,” a Twitter user writes, dubbing Skrillex’s version as the “garage mix.”

Skrillex’s Unexpected Remix

Skrillex wasn’t the first unexpected matchup to tap Ice Spice lately. She recently joined Taylor Swift on “Karma (Remix),” which landed her the record of largest streaming debut for a female rapper. Some listeners loved the collab, while other critics weren’t fans. Ebro recently shared his thoughts on the remix, claiming that Ice Spice wasn’t “ready for that moment.” He said it happened “too soon,” adding, “I don’t think it’s necessary.” He also claimed “Ice Spice don’t need Taylor.” He went on to describe the remix as a way for Swift to stay relevant to a newer audience. Ebro did, however, call her collab with Nicki Minaj “perfect.”

Ice Spice recently discussed her sudden rise to fame in her April Paper Magazine cover story. “I don’t know if I fit in,” she explained, saying, “I think that’s what makes me so different. I feel like it’s a new lane that I’ve started, and I’m starting to hear a lot of other artists sound like they belong in my lane now.”

6ix9ine Performs In Front Of Massive Crowd In The Netherlands

Tekashi 6ix9ine remains exiled from the hip-hop community, at least in America. The rapper hasn’t really performed any shows in the States recently while his latest musical outings have been more infused with Latin sounds. And while his Spanish-language singles have apparently made a splash in the Latin world, they haven’t necessarily gained significant traction in the states. However, it seems as though the international market is where the bag is at for him these days.

The rainbow-haired rapper took his talents to the Netherlands this weekend for Freshtival. On Saturday, the rapper performed in front of a massive crowd where he dived into some of his biggest hits. Although fans did seem excited to see the notorious figure in the flesh, his attempt to stage dive didn’t necessarily play out the way he wanted it to. Otherwise, it seems like it could be the beginning of 6ix9ine’s formal return to the stage. “40,000 NETHERLANDS 🇳🇱 THANK YOU I LOVE YOU ❤ WHERE SHOULD I COME TO NEXT ?????????? COMMENT YOUR COUNTRY,” he captioned the post, along with a number of flags including Canada and Jamaica.

Tekashi 6ix9ine’s Return

Overall, it seems like Tekashi is still finding success in Europe these days. Besides his recently concert in the Netherlands, he recently performed in Romania. A clip of him performing his collab with Nicki Minaj, “Fefe” surfaced shortly after. Earlier this year, 6ix9ine also announced that he would be performing in Israel. Although he hasn’t announced any shows as of late, Bandsintown reports that his next scheduled performance will be in Denmark on October 27th.

Even though Tekashi 6ix9ine appears to be able to book shows again, things haven’t necessarily been entirely smooth for him this year. Earlier this year, the rapper got jumped while working out at a Florida gym. Footage emerged of three individuals entering an L.A. Fitness before attacking him inside of the gym’s sauna and bloodying his face. Ultimately, 6ix9ine used the moment to create even more viral content in response to the situation. Check out 6ix9ine’s video from his Netherlands performance above and sound off with your thoughts in the comments.

Beyonce Brings Blue Ivy To Dance On Stage During “My Power” Performance

Beyonce’s RENAISSANCE tour has been nothing short of show-stopping so far, months after its insane ticket prices and high demand drove (and keep driving) fans crazy. Still, the superstar keeps finding new ways to not just treat them to a special experience, but do so for her family, as well. Recently, she brought out her daughter Blue Ivy to dance with the rest of her team during a performance of her track “MY POWER.” Of course, Ivy kept up with grace during the show, which is unsurprising since this isn’t the first time she’s joined her mom on stage. Still, this is a level up, and it’s great to see her enjoying some quality family time in what should be a pretty busy and distracting time for the Queen.

Furthermore, Beyonce’s family is as much of an emotional and audience support as they are a literal part of the team. For example, Blue Ivy and her dad Jay-Z watched her opening show in Stockholm, Sweden along with the rest of the BeyHive. In order to keep a low profile and blend in within the pit, they wore simple black and white clothes as they watched the spectacle. After all, they can’t try to top the 41-year-old’s amazing fits on her special night.

Blue Ivy Performs With Beyonce

What’s more is that this isn’t the only way in which Blue Ivy is following in her parents’ footsteps. Sure, she’s clearly gotten a lot of help along the way, but how many other celebrity kids can say that they have two RIAA-certified gold singles at that age? Her first was for her contributions for the closing track (aptly named “Blue”) on Beyonce’s 2013 self-titled album. Furthermore, the second is on The Lion King: The Gift for the song “BROWN SKIN GIRL.”

Meanwhile, she also got in touch with some heavy star power earlier this year- though, again, it can’t be too uncommon for her these days. During the 2023 Super Bowl, the 11-year-old snapped some pictures with Lil Uzi Vert. Given that Queen Bey performed their track “Just Wanna Rock” during her tour, the connection is unsurprising. Nicki Minaj & Karol G Give Each Other Their Flowers, Explain “Tusa” Collab

“Tusa” was one of the most explosive and instantly beloved reggaetón crossover tracks of the past few years, thanks in no small part to Karol G and Nicki Minaj’s chemistry and performances. Recently, the Colombian star served as the cover star for Elle and had an interview with them where she spoke on the collab. “When I had this song, I just text on Instagram to Nicki Minaj,” she explained. “We never had met before, and it was so special for me that she loves the song, and she just jump on it- like, singing lyrics in Spanish. We were really grateful about her celebrating our Latina community. And I remember [during] the pandemic, this song was one that people used to sing in the balconies, so this one is really, really special. I know you love ‘Tusa.’ I love ‘Tusa,’ too.”

Then, when a fan reposted the message on Twitter, the Trinidadian rap legend also showered Karol in praise while going into more detail. “But the thing is, Karol sent me another song @ first & I asked her to send smthng else,” Minaj wrote. “She didn’t want to b/c she said the reggaeton was what was popping at the time. But she still sent a new song. When I heard Tusa I fell in love. I think I was pregnant. I was dancing w/husband non stop in the backyard. We swore we were doing the merengue. The song made us feel so happy. That’s how I knew it was the one.”

Nicki Minaj & Karol G Still Love Their Collab

However, this prompted fans to once again ask for a performance of the song from the two, which Nicki Minaj also spoke on. “To be fair, Karol asked me to perform it with her on 2 different award shows, if I recall correctly.,” the 40-year-old expressed. “By that time I had gotten preggers tho & I was still keeping it a secret. I hated having to pass up on it but papa was growing in mama tummy. Lo siento por mis fans Latinos.”

The Queen Further Speaks On “Tusa”

In fact, fans might remember that this is far from the first time that Nicki addressed rumors about the track. “The fact that y’all believed that dopey fkng lie?!? LMAO,” she said of a rumor that Cardi B suggested she passed on the song to spite Minaj. “That’s exactly why I’m checkin everything IMMEDIATELY from now on. Who?? Passed on what?? This isn’t even the 1st song Karol sent me. I asked her for ANOTHER song AFTER the 1st option & when she sent this I LOVED it [heart smiling emoji].” For more news on Karol G and the latest updates on Nicki Minaj, check back in with HNHH.

Lil Wayne Arrives Late To Metro Metro Festival, Performs For Only 15 Minutes

Lil Wayne performed at Montreal’s Metro Metro Festival on Friday, but due to the rapper arriving late, his set only lasted 15 minutes. He was scheduled to go on at 10 p.m., however, he arrived at 10:45 p.m. Fans chanted “Weezy” as the performance came to a close. The festival later responded to the incident, simply writing, “We apologize for Lil Wayne‘s abbreviated performance. He arrived at the festival at 10:45 and curfew is at 11.” Lil Wayne headlined the first day of the festival, and the following days saw headlining sets from Jack Harlow and Lil Baby.

A similar incident occurred in April, when Lil Wayne performed a 30-minute set at The Wiltern in Los Angeles. The final Welcome to Tha Carter Tour performance was cut short due to the rapper feeling as though the crowd wasn’t giving him what he deserved. He told his audience, “We appreciate it, but we ain’t about to be bending over backwards for these folks.” Lil Wayne continued, closing the show with, “We work too hard for this shit, we work way too hard. This my motherf***in’ artist Allan, that was Twist, that was Yaj; we are Young Money. We appreciate y’all time.”

At the same April performance, Lil Wayne also told his audience, “I am the realest motherf***er in the game right now.” He added, “Ladies and gentlemen, I don’t give a f**k what you think you’re looking at, but you are looking at the best rapper alive.”
