Nicki Minaj, Billie Eilish, Stevie Wonder & More Call For Protection From AI

More than 200 major artists recently came together to sign an open letter requesting safeguards be put in place to protect artists from artificial intelligence. The letter notes the increasing use of technology to imitate performers’ voices and appearances. It also argues that it could have a detrimental impact on the music industry. Previously, artists like Nicki Minaj, Billie Eilish, Stevie Wonder, and many more have had their voices or likenesses imitated.

“This assault on human creativity must be stopped. We must protect against the predatory use of AI to steal professional artists’ voices and likenesses, violate creators’ rights, and destroy the music ecosystem,” the letter reads. It was penned by The Artist Rights Alliance, a non-profit run by several music industry veterans. Johnny Cash’s daughter Rosanne, for example, is a board member.

Artists Don’t Want To Be Replaced By AI

This isn’t the first time artists have come together to demand protection from A.I., however. Earlier this year, over 300 creatives joined forces to sign a letter in support of the bipartisan No Artificial Intelligence Fake Replicas And Unauthorized Duplications Act. 21 S*vage, Chuck D, CommonMary J. BligeMissy Elliott, Questlove, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, and more signed the letter. “The No AI FRAUD Act would defend your fundamental human right to your voice & likeness, protecting everyone from nonconsensual deepfakes,” it says, also urging readers to, “Protect your individuality. Support HR 6943.”

“It’s time for bad actors using AI to face the music,” Representative María Elvira Salazar said when announcing the act. “This bill plugs a hole in the law and gives artists and U.S. citizens the power to protect their rights, their creative work, and their fundamental individuality online.” What do you think of various artists coming together to sign an open letter requesting protection from artificial intelligence? Ye Asks Music Industry To Respect Name Change

Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, has issued a statement asking the music industry to respect his legal name change. In a letter from his chief of staff, Milo Yiannopoulos, it was explained that the rapper considers “Kanye West” to be his “slave name”. “Ye is a Black man in America who wants the right to full self-determination just like everyone else,” the letter reads in part. Ye legally changed his name in October 2021, but has struggled to see the change reflected across published works. In their report of this story, TMZ used the rapper’s legal name and “Kanye” interchangeably.

However, he has shown a preference for the name as far back as 2018. In an interview with Big Boy, Ye stated that he felt a connection to the name’s Biblical roots. Ye is a derivative of a name for God. However, the rapper erroneously stated that it was also the most commonly used word in the Bible.

Elsewhere, Ye has reportedly been formally banned from performing in Brazil. Sources who spoke with the US Sun said that the rapper had been “firmly denied” a request to perform in Rio. He had expressed a desire to recreate the Rolling Stones’ infamous free concert in 200. 1.5 million people attended the Copacabana Beach concert. The reason for his ban is his string of controversial behavior, both his anti-Semitic rants and his behavior in Italy with Bianca Censori.

However, Ye doesn’t need to leave the US to put on controversial concerts. A number of fans have complained about his Rolling Loud concert. Ye and Ty Dolla $ign simply walked around a specially constructed stage as pre-released music played. A number of people have argued that this was a misrepresentation of the advertised concert. Furthermore, Rolling Loud has refused to confirm or deny reports that he and Ty were paid $10 million for the concert. The show was abruptly added to the concert lineup last month.

Nicki Minaj & Cardi B Actually Agree On Something: A New AI Regulation Law

Nicki Minaj may be popping off on Megan Thee Stallion right now, but in many’s eyes, her main antagonist as a femcee is Cardi B, and vice versa. Their feud, however vague or subliminal, rages on following years of alleged incidents, battles between their partners, and fanbase clashing. But any two rivals can come together if it’s for the right cause, and they found one in a new bill proposed in the U.S. Congress to regulate artificial intelligence. The bipartisan No Artificial Intelligence Fake Replicas And Unauthorized Duplications Act (“No AI FRAUD”) was introduced in the House on January 10, and Nicki and Cardi joined over 300 other artists and creatives in signing an open letter supporting it.

Furthermore, other big names include 21 S*vage, Chuck D, Common, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott, Questlove, Smokey Robinson, and many more. The “No AI FRAUD” act would federally protect voices and likenesses from unchecked replication with AI technology. The Human Artistry Campaign (H.A.C.) published this letter as a running ad in print editions of USA Today on Friday (February 2). “The No AI FRAUD Act would defend your fundamental human right to your voice & likeness, protecting everyone from nonconsensual deepfakes,” it reads. “Protect your individuality. Support HR 6943.”

Cardi B & Nicki Minaj Join Hundreds Of Artists Seeking AI Regulation

For those unaware, the H.A.C. relayed seven core tenants about this technology back in March of 2023. Of course, these include proper licensing for artistic works used to craft AI models and limitations on the government’s ability to change intellectual property law to provide exploitable exemptions that artificial intelligence developers could take advantage of. Not only that, but this new act follows the “NO FAKES” Act from October of last year. The “No AI FRAUD” Act’s architects are Representatives María Elvira Salazar (R-FL), Rob Wittman (R-VA), Nathaniel Moran (R-TX), Madeleine Dean (D-PA), and Joe Morelle (D-NY).

“It’s time for bad actors using AI to face the music,” Rep. Salazar stated when they announced it. “This bill plugs a hole in the law and gives artists and U.S. citizens the power to protect their rights, their creative work, and their fundamental individuality online.” What’s more is that Tennessee’s Governor Bill Lee proposed similar legislation on the same day: the Ensuring Likeness Voice and Image Security -– or “ELVIS” -– Act). Nevertheless, “No AI FRAUD” received support from many industry titans like the Recording Academy, Universal Music Group, and more. No wonder Cardi B and Nicki Minaj saw eye to eye. Kayla Nicole Speaks

“They may call you a traitor for falling in love,” Nicole said. “You’ll hope the ones closest will protect you but quickly realize people don’t protect what they don’t value. Not successful enough, not wholesome enough, maybe not even intelligent enough. … They’ll even try to tie your value to your net worth.” The comments under the video were extremely supportive, with many saying that they resonated with what she was saying.
