Nicki Minaj Will Perform And Be Honored With A Video Vanguard Award At The 2022 VMAs

As Nicki Minaj slowly gets back into the groove of releasing new music, her decade-plus of classic, game-changing hits will be honored at the 2022 MTV VMAs. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming show will honor Nicki with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, and she will perform at the show for the first time since 2018. Nicki’s also nominated for a Best Hip-Hop Award thanks to her 2022 singles “Do We Have A Problem?” “Bussin,” and “We Go Up,” as well as her song-stealing feature from Coi Leray’s “Blick Blick.”

Bruce Gillmer, president of music, music talent, programming, and events at Paramount (MTV’s parent company) said in a statement, “Nicki has broken barriers for women in hip-hop with her versatility and creative artistry. She has shifted the music industry and cemented her status as a global superstar with her crossover appeal, genre-defying style, and continuing to be unapologetically ‘Nicki.’” Mrs. Minaj herself told fans, “You don’t want to miss my performance,” on Twitter, sharing a promo clip containing snippets of a bunch of her previous videos. She also asked her Barbz to suggest songs for her to perform, with one caveat — they couldn’t mention her upcoming single “Super Freaky Girl,” which drops on August 12.

The 2022 MTV VMAs will air on 8/28 live from Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey at 8 pm ET. Performers include Anitta, J Balvin, and more, while nominees include Jack Harlow, Kendrick Lamar, and Lil Nas X.

ICYMI: Man Who Killed Nicki Minaj’s Father in Hit-and-Run Receives 1 Year Sentence

Nicki Minaj and father

The driver who killed Nicki Minaj’s father in a hit-and-run has been sentenced. 72-year-old Charles Polevich of Mineola was sentenced to only one year behind bars.

He pleaded guilty of hitting and killing 64-year-old Robert Maraj with his vehicle as he was walking in Mineola last year.  Polevich had faced up-to-eleven-years behind bars, and will now also have to pay a five-thousand-dollar fine.  The judge also ordered his driver’s license to be suspended for 6 months.

Nicki’s mom, Carol Maraj, said in court that Polevich had left her husband “like a dog on the street” and that sparing him a longer jail sentence was a “slap in the face for the family,” according to Newsday.

After her father’s death, Nicki Minaj wrote on her website, “I can say it has been the most devastating loss of my life.” Mrs. Maraj plans to sue Polevich for the fatal incident.

Lil Wayne Reveals ‘Tha Carter VI’ Is ‘Coming Soon’ At October World Festival

During a much-anticipated Young Money reunion last night (August 6) at Drake’s October World Festival in Toronto, Drake, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj reunited to perform together for the first time in years. Toward the end of the show, Wayne revealed he has a new project in the works.

“I’m working on Carter VI, coming soon!” he said to the crowd.

Shortly after, a sign reading “Tha Carter VI” displayed on a large screen.

Wayne first hinted at Tha Carter VI in a 2020 interview with Variety, when he said “My favorite Carter album is the next one.

During an appearance on ESPN which took place the following month, he said “Carter VI is coming soon, but I got No Ceilings coming first. No Ceilings 3.”

Nicki Minaj Will Be A ‘Super Freaky Girl’ On Her Upcoming Song

The rollout for Nicki Minaj’s comeback continues with the upcoming release of her new single, “Super Freaky Girl.” The song — which samples Rick James’ 1981 hit single “Super Freak” — is set for release on Friday, August 12, after a new episode of her podcast Queen Radio goes live the day before.

Earlier this month, Nicki teased the single on Instagram, playing a snippet as she mugged the camera for a racy video announcing the new song. Since then, she’s devoted her energy to stirring up more fan involvement from her loyal Barbz, even hosting a poll to rename the song after running into some copyright issues with its original title, “Freaky Girl.”

When some fans complained about the new title, Nicki pointed out on Twitter that she “did a whole poll that 100K ppl took so sit down & SHUT IT! 😡 legally we can’t use freaky girl. Don’t you think I would if I could? Use your noggin.” The song snippet is also apparently doing well on TikTok, something Nicki has been quick to tout on Twitter.

In other Nicki Minaj news, the rapper recently released the trailer for a six-part docuseries, Nicki, which she says is coming out this year. “We have the month that the documentary is coming,” she announced during a recent episode of Queen Radio. “We do not have the date, but we have the month. It’s going to be a very exciting month for the Barbz. It’s obviously coming out in 2022.”

In the meantime, prepare for the release of “Super Freaky Girl” by pre-saving it here.

Drake Announces The New Date For His Young Money Reunion Show With Lil Wayne And Nicki Minaj

Earlier this week, Canadian fans looking forward to a Young Money Reunion concert featuring Drake, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj were disappointed when Drake announced that the show would have to be postponed after he contracted COVID-19. However, there’s good news on the horizon; Drake’s clearly feeling healthy enough to put the show on this weekend instead, proudly announcing his negative COVID test and the new dates for the final show of his inadvertently extended October World Weekend.

“Negative test…” he wrote, “positive outcome…this was the only date available until the fall and because the family is so solid everybody is flying back in to make it happen for you all…SEE YOU SATURDAY…young moulaaa.”

The show will conclude the most recent segment Drake’s “Road To OVO Fest,” which he announced earlier this month as an alternative to his usual blowout weekend in Toronto. Since he says he’s working on bringing OVO Fest to the world for its 10th anniversary, he instead offered October World Weekend, including shows with an All Canadian Northstars lineup at Drake’s venue History (where he sang along with surprise guest Nelly Furtado), the Toronto stop of the ongoing Lil Baby and Chris Brown tour, and now, finally his Young Money Reunion concert.
