Following months of teasing, Ice Spice finally unleashed her debut album last week, Y2K. It boasts features from the likes of Gunna, Central Cee, and Travis Scott. Unfortunately, while the project had a ton of potential, many feel like it left a lot to be desired. Some were even quick to dub it the worst project of the year. That’s clearly up for debate, as the Bronx-born baddie arguably delivered at least a couple of bangers. Either way, the album’s commercial performance has been less than impressive.

According to Hits Daily Double, Y2K is on track to move 20k units in its first week. Social media users agree that this number is shockingly low, even considering all of the criticism surrounding the project. As a result, X users are now clowning the “Deli” rapper, and comparing her performance to that of peers like JT, Latto, and more.

Y2K On Track To Sell 20K Its First Week

Social media users are also speculating what could have caused the apparent drop-off. Some think it could be related to her shady comments about Nicki Minaj or other beef. Others also think she should change up her sound, and argue that listeners are simply getting bored. Luckily, not everyone has something bad to say about Y2K, as Pitchfork recently gave it a controversially high rating. The publication rated it 7.6 out of 10, the highest rating they’ve given a mainstream rap tape all year.

With that being said, many other critics have ripped the album to shreds. Big Sean’s latest interview with The Breakfast Club‘s Charlamagne tha God is generating quite a bit of buzz. During their chat, they divulge in numerous topics, with perhaps the biggest surrounding him and Kendrick Lamar’s relationship. However, there is another section that is causing some debate amongst the viewers. Over each decade of hip-hop, you can point to three artists who have defined their respective periods. The one that gets perhaps the most traction is for the 2010s. Most throw in Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and J. Cole in there, something that each MC has addressed several times as of late.

Other names you can debate are Future, Travis Scott, and Kanye West. The former of those names is someone that Charlamagne is willing to create a “Fantastic Four” for. Additionally, he tells Sean that the aforementioned “Big Three” is essentially unanimous, to which Sean rebuttals that he hears his moniker thrown around in those conversations. Additionally, though, the Detroit rapper can understand where people, including Charlamagne, are coming from. He cites that his “consistency” really isn’t there, mentioning how he hasn’t dropped an album in almost four years. Although, that dry spell will be ending on August 9 when Sean comes out with Better Me Than You.

Big Sean Notes “Consistency” Is Holding Him Back From “Big Three” Status

While the “Precision” rapper does show some humility, he does make clear that he can hang with the best of them on any track. He boldly mentions his verses on two Kendrick Lamar collabs, “Control” and DJ Khaled’s “Holy Key”, as his biggest flexes. In fact, he even claims he made sure he put together the stronger performance on the latter. This prompted fans to react. “He didn’t have a better verse on holy key though lol”, one user on X says. Overall, there were some fans that put Sean in the same air as three aforementioned pillars of the past decade and some that don’t. Maybe, though, he can convince the critics next Friday.

As the release date grows closer, ASAP Rocky gave fans a peek at what’s to come with a new single today, “HIGHJACK” featuring Jessica Pratt. Already, the song has made major waves, as it’s speculated that Rocky dissed Drake several times. This is unconfirmed, though last week, DJ Kast One appeared on Hot 97 to discuss the album. During his appearance, he claimed he already heard it and said that Rocky plans to respond to Drake. “I heard ASAP Rocky definitely addressing a lot of the main topics that are happening out here right now,” he told the outlet. “Let’s just say, the list keeps going on strong… He’s gonna be cemented on the list after this.”

There are a whole host of legendary female rappers that have graced the mic over the genre’s history. Each one has had a unique impact on the game. However, there may never be no one more influential than Nicki Minaj. Many credit her for the trends that exist in the current landscape, and rightfully so. It seems every female star today takes some sort of inspiration from Onika. Sometimes, the Barbz can shove in your face a little too much, but that will never truly take away from her looming presence over the latest crop of talent. These reasons are why fans, including Summer Walker, are confused and upset with Spotify over a recent omission.

According to AllHipHop, the streaming giant put together a special exhibit called The Gold Standard Exhibition in New York City. It features tons of stunning portraits of all of the “ladies setting the bar for hip-hop”. Present faces such as Latto, Flo Milli, Sexyy Red, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, and more were featured. However, Summer Walker was quick to point out the exclusion of Nicki Minaj, Lil’ Kim, and Missy Elliott in the comments.

YNW Melly’s Mother & Fredo Bang Deposition Dates Revealed Amid YNW Juvy Estate’s Lawsuit

YNW Melly has been behind bars for several years now. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like he’ll be getting out anytime soon. The 25-year-old rapper was arrested back in 2019 for his alleged role in the murders of YNW Juvy and YNW SakChaser. If convicted, he faces life in prison or the death penalty. His retrial is scheduled to begin in September of next year.

Melly is also facing civil lawsuits from both SakChaser and Juvy’s estates, which recently got a major update. According to Bryson “Boom” Paul, Melly’s mother Jamie King and Fredo Bang are scheduled to give video depositions as part of the Juvy lawsuit on September 26 and 27 of this year.

This latest development comes only weeks after Melly’s lawyer Bradford Cohen put Florida prosecutors on blast in an Instagram post. He accused them of mishandling the case from the beginning, making it clear that he’s outraged by how things have played out so far. “Essentially, the Broward State Attorneys Office really screwed this case up,” he wrote. “I have never seen anything like it. Literally refused to pass this case to an unconflicted state attorneys office after the defense listed one of their own state attorneys as a witness. They wanted to be able to cross examine the state attorney that was what amounted to a whistle blower and testified that a police officer lied.”

It also follows Melly’s mother calling for the case to be dismissed altogether after the new retrial date was announced. A clip from a sit-down between Kendrick Lamar’s engineer and Engine Ears Live is stirring up conversation. During their chat, Nicolas de Porcel retold the “amazing” procedure behind each Drake diss record during their battle. “It was a little crazy. I got a call, and it was like, ‘Stay on call, you’re gonna be working’”, Porcel began. “I would get the song and like six minutes would elapse and they’d be like, ‘How we looking?’. It was very high pressure. As Dot was releasing these records, it was like, I was turning in the masters… It would drop like 12 minutes later. It was amazing”.

Any sort of extra details about this beef are going to cause even more debate, and that’s exactly what is going on in the Xspace. According to XXL, fans are very split on whether or not de Porcel is telling the truth. Expectedly, there are a lot of skeptics out there, which is quite understandable. Many non-believers were pointing out how there is no way every fine detail was being ironed out. “You guys smoking the same crack Kendrick was in Power. It’s literally not possible to mix and master a full session at a professional level in just 30 minutes. It takes that long just to organize and label all the session stems”, one user states.

Earlier today, Punch took to X to reveal that he’s been seeing the ad nonstop. He added that he found it pretty compelling too, and is considering getting a pair of his own.

“Man these Fenty drawls Rocky selling has great marketing and promotion. The ad pops up every time I scroll,” he wrote. “I’m finna get some.” Most fans agree that this is some solid promotion, and some even admitted that they too were tempted to get themselves a pair. ScHoolboy Q, on the other hand, took the opportunity to clown Punch for his comments.

I didn’t ask for this,” another says. Punch isn’t the only one to find himself on the receiving end of ScHoolboy Q’s clowning, however. Back in 2022, ASAP Rocky teamed up with Calvin Klein for another underwear ad, which earned him a full-on roast.
