NLE Choppa Claims He’s The “Michael Jackson Of Hip-Hop” In IG Rant

NLE Choppa loves to talk. More specifically, he likes to say things that will get attention. The rapper may have just topped himself, however, on September 16th. He took to Instagram to hype up his skills and his capabilities as a hit maker. NLE Choppa has popular songs for sure, but he decided to take things a little further than most would expect. It would have been a lot to proclaim himself one of the best rappers of his generation, but he claimed that he was the best rapper of his generation. Choppa likened himself to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

The inciting incident behind the claim happened in Canada. NLE Choppa sold out a concert in the Great White North, and was really feeling himself as a result. “Put some respect on my name,” he yelled at his followers. “I am the greatest of my generation… “Y’all gotta catch up I’m ahead of the pack I’m only 21 selling out arenas.” It’s all pretty standard as far as rappers flexing goes. It was the last statement that turned heads, though. “I might as well say heeeheee round here,” he asserted. “I’m on my MJ.”

NLE Choppa Likened Himself To The King Of Pop

NLE Choppa knew what he was doing when he evoked Michael Jackson. Don’t believe us? The rapper decided to double down on his boldest (and frankly, most outlandish claim), in a second Instagram post. He uploaded a video of a crowd singing along to his biggest song, “Slut Me Out 2,” and cleared up any ambiguity regarding the MJ comparison. “Micheal Jackson Of Hip Hop,” he wrote. “Point Blank Period.” Never mind the fact that NLE Choppa only has 12 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, and no number ones. Michael Jackson has 51 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 and 13 number ones. That’s even taking into account the impact and pop cultural impact that MJ had, and continues to have.

NLE Choppa knows that comparing himself to the biggest artist of all time would make headlines and he was right. We’re writing about it. And despite being only halfway through the month, the MJ controversy is already the second time the rapper has gone viral. NLE Choppa announced that he was “coming out of the closet” on September 6. He confused viewers with his seemingly clickbait tweet. A few days later, he clarified that he was merely teasing a new song. “Never said I was gay,” he wrote. “A New Project This Month, and Black Duck Boots. Yall ain’t let me finish.”

Future Treats Fans To Another Killer “Mixtape Pluto” Snippet With “Ski”

Future is bringing snippets back. The rapper followed more traditional rollouts for his Metro Boomin albums, but his upcoming solo venture has been different. Instead of dropping a lead single, and then a tracklist, Future has decided to drop one snippet after another. There have numerous snippets dropped over the last few weeks. Each of them have been accompanied by a music video. “Ski,” the snippet that Future dropped on September 16, follows suit.

“Ski” is about as close to Mixtape Pluto as Future has sounded since 2015. The rapper is really stripping away the melodic flourishes of his aforementioned Metro Boomin albums. Instead, he’s revived the trunk-rattling, minimalist sound he perfected with Dirty Sprite 2. The “Ski” snippet is only fifteen seconds long, but the music video goes a long way in furthering the Mixtape Pluto aesthetic. Its gritty, and the different settings looks gleefully sidestep glamour. There’s nothing pretty about Future decked out in all back, and looking menacing underneath a neon green light.

Future Offers Up Another Minimalist Banger

Future’s promotional decisions for Mixtape Pluto feel extremely pointed. The rapper may have crossed over to a level of success that few of his peers can match, but he’s not doing interviews or teasing huge collabs. He’s letting the music talk for itself, which is an approach he articulated during a profile with GQ in 2022. “I got here through music,” Future explained to the outlet. “I didn’t get here for having the best interviews. Other dudes in the world can have the best speech. They can do this in one take and it’d be perfect.”

While it’s safe to assume that Drake will not appear on Mixtape Pluto, Future has seemingly enlisted lots of veteran collaborators. Southside and Boi-1da have produced some of the teased snippets. There have also been snippets with confirmed guest features from Playboi Carti and Travis Scott. Both artists are set to drop new albums in 2024 as well, making their involvement with Future especially exciting. Hopefully we will see Pluto return the favor on Carti and Scott’s respective releases.

Tito Jackson’s Death Spawns Tributes From Questlove And DJ Premier

The music world suffered a tremendous loss on September 16. Tito Jackson, a founding member of the Jackson 5, has died. Jackson was 70 years old, and his death was confirmed by his family. The singer’s three sons paid tribute to him via social media. That said, Tito Jackson’s legacy goes beyond his famous lineage. Luminaries within the hip hop community, including Questlove and DJ Premier, took to Instagram to pay their respects to the late great.

Questlove posted a photograph of Tito Jackson alongside his famous brother, Michael, in the 1980s. He also articulated the impact that the Jackson 5 had on his own musical knowledge growing up. “All of the Jackson brothers are heroes to me,” he explained. “I really don’t have the words right now. May the entire Jackson family find comfort & peace In this moment. Thank You Tito. rest in melody.” Questlove has been vocal about his love for Tito Jackson and the rest of the titular group. In his memoir, Mo’ Meta Blues: The World According to Questlove, The Roots drummer talked about the Jackson 5’s tireless schedule while on tour, and how it informed his perception of hard work.

DJ Premier Dubbed Tito Jackson An “Icon”

DJ Premier is a bit older than Questlove, so his tribute had more to do with the impact that Tito Jackson and the rest of the Jacksons had on him in real time. “My musical childhood is based on one of the ILLest groups: Jackson 5,” the producer asserted. “To know all of their names back in 1970 when I was 4 years old, and their roles in the group has continued to carry the same effect.” Premo also made sure to single out Tito Jackson for being part of what he considered to be the ultimate family group. “No family group has ever done it like them,” he wrote. “Thank You for your contribution to shaping my professionalism in this music sh*t. SALUTE ICON.”

Tito Jackson continued to perform up until his untimely death. The singer and musician has been playing alongside surviving brothers Marlon and Jackie Jackson as The Jacksons. The trio were even booked to perform in Atlantic City on October 25. Entertainment Tonight stated that Tito Jackson’s death was brought about by a heart attack on Sunday, September 15.

Jay Critch Gets Into “1 Vs 6” Brawl With Trollers In New York

Overall, Jay Critch comes across as one of those MCs who stays to himself for the most part. He’s rarely causing drama in the public eye and seems pretty humble. Unfortunately, the Brooklyn veteran has occasionally gotten tangled up in some street fights here and there. It’s nothing that’s too out of the ordinary in general, but for some reason that’s what seems to be a reoccurring thing here and there. For example, around this time two years ago, Critch went viral for getting into it outside of a New Jersey nightclub alongside some of his boys.

Ironically, the Humble Giant is making headlines for the same reason again as video footage below shows. It isn’t much, as the clip is only five seconds. But it appears that Critch was jumped in the streets of New York as an assailant hits him in the face with what is said to be his shoes. Like the NJ debacle, there isn’t any word on how things unraveled. But unlike last time, we have some physical evidence of Critch and one of his alleged “6” attackers jawing at each other after the fight online.

“I popped on U first 1 vs 6 and left chains. U Lost”, the MC says to the user dottydot_ on IG. He then replies, “@jaycritch 😭😭 I beat you out ua sneakers before they even got there, and I let you have ya chain”, he began. “I took it off ya neck…. You thought it was lit when you backed out that camera dummy”. Later, to try and put away any doubts that Critch wasn’t telling truth, he added on his IG Story, “End of story!”, with his aforementioned quote above. Maybe this time we will learn the cause of this brief and viral clip.

What are your thoughts on Jay Critch getting jumped and punched in the face in New York? What do you think escalated this brawl? Whose side do you believe more in this debate? The Alchemist Hypes Fans Up With Tracklist & Cover Art For New Album “The Genuine Articulate”

The Alchemist is dropping a new album on Friday (September 20), and fans couldn’t be more excited about yet another release in this prolific catalog. The legendary producer led the rollout with the single “Ferraris In The Rain” featuring ScHoolboy Q, indicating that this will boast many lyrical performances from him as an MC. Now, he shared the jagged but slightly regal cover art for the project, as well as the features for it. Across 8 tracks, Uncle Al will spit verses alongside Action Bronson, Big Body Bes, Havoc (all love to Mobb Deep, RIP Prodigy), Conway The Machine, and Larry June.

Moreover, this should make up for the disappointment that many fans expressed when Eminem released the Expanded Mourner’s Edition of his new album The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce). Many fans hoped that The Alchemist would lend some production to new deluxe cuts, but this was sadly not the case. Their strong bond has led many to beg for more collaborations, but it looks like they’re saving those for a very special occasion. Hopefully that’s sooner rather than later…

The Alchemist’s The Genuine Articulate: Cover Art & Features

What’s more is that The Alchemist’s prolific streak obviously doesn’t just refer to his projects and releases as a solo or collaborative artist, but also to his production work with other musicians. For example, he recently produced A$AP Rocky’s latest Don’t Be Dumb single, “Ruby Rosary” featuring J. Cole. It was a welcome surprise as a team-up, with the tender, eerie, and languid beat contrasting with Rocky’s typically animated delivery. Of course, Cole does his thing, too. We can’t wait to see what comes next, especially if it’s as new and exciting of a joint effort as that.

Fortunately, we already have a good idea of what that could look like. Big Sean recently revealed that he and The Alchemist are working on a full collab project. The latter just produced the former’s “Together Forever” off of his new album Better Me Than You, and they previously linked on “Palisades, CA” off of the beatsmith’s Larry June joint LP The Great Escape. We can’t wait for Friday and beyond!

Latto Attempts To Change Narrative Around “Brokey” By Presenting An Opportunity To Blue-Collar Workers

Early last month, Latto put out her highly anticipated project, Sugar Honey Iced Tea. Overall, the LP has seen some praise from fans and decent reviews from critics. However, one of the record’s songs has been stirring up some debate online for its lyrical content. That track is “Brokey” and listeners have appeared to take its words out of context, at least according to Latto. In all honesty, topics like this, especially in trap music, are extremely common. We feel people are making mountains out of molehills, but still, here’s the issue at hand. The issue that fans have with it is that they feel Latto is dissing all of the blue-collar workers who can’t always provide luxuries to their partner or don’t get enough from their partner.

B****es gotta wait till they birthday to go out of town“. “Brokey / Yeah, I talk a lot of s*** (Haha) / He like, “Who you think you is?,” n****, not your b**** / Brokey“. These are just some of the bars that are setting some off. So, Latto is looking to change the discourse surrounding “Brokey”. According to Uproxx, the Columbus born artist sent out a challenge to her “hard workers” out there and it’s paying out quite a bit of change.

Some are pretty funny and gaining quite a bit of traction too. So, if you’re looking to go home with $10,000 send in your submissions!
