Vic Mensa And Common Pay Tribute To Chicago On New Track “$outhside Story”

Vic Mensa dropped off his second studio album yesterday, Victor. The 18-track project sees him reflect on his newfound sobriety, and take a head-on approach to self-examination. The new LP is jam-packed with high-profile collaborations from the likes of G-Eazy, Chance The Rapper, Ty Dolla $ign, and more. Vic Mensa also teamed up with fellow Chicago-born performer Common, dissecting the ins and outs of their hometown on “$outhside Story.”

He spoke about working with Common in an interview with Billboard, sharing how much the collaboration meant to him. “Common, for example, is my favorite MC since being a little kid,” he explained. “Immediately I knew it’d be crazy to have his voice on here, and his paintbrush, his texture.”

Vic Mensa And Common Join Forces To Honor Their Hometown

The introspective collab sees the two artists pay homage to their hometown of Chicago. They highlight the dichotomy of the city’s good and evil, calling on faith to ground difficult themes of getting caught up in the street life. The duo tells a tragic but hopeful tale of “two cities” in one, anchored by a laid-back beat and a soulful melody. Lyrics like “We found God in the devil’s Bible / We thrive in survival” pull at the heartstrings of listeners, and give a candid look at an experience shared by so many.

“It’s really a story of redemption and triumph, and spirituality and love and pain and struggle — human experience,” Vic Mensa said of the album. “That’s the place I write from. That’s what I aim to communicate and to convey. And I’m just so excited to open that conversation with any and everyone who listens to this album.” What do you think of Vic Mensa’s new album? J Balvin, Usher & DJ Khaled Want To See Those “Dientes” On New Single

Have you ever wanted to hear Usher, Lil Jon, and Ludacris’ “Yeah!” but with a reggaetón and house twist? Well, you’re in luck, because the first of those singers assisted J Balvin and DJ Khaled with the cut “Dientes,” which does exactly that. It’s a club-ready banger, with a big focus on driving expressive vocal runs and the iconic melody behind the original. Also present are some shuffling percussive elements like slinky bass, syncopated kicks, and crisp snares and hi-hats. It won’t be the most unique or boundary-pushing thing you’ll hear this week, but there’s a good chance it’ll be the catchiest.

Of course, this is just one of many tracks that Usher’s graced his fans with this year, including “Boyfriend” and “Good Good” with Summer Walker and 21 S*vage. This time around, though, it was actually quite curious to see him retread his old flow on “Yeah!” for a more contemporary context. It’s not as explosive as the original, but it’s much more dynamic from start to finish with swells and drops. J Balvin also came through with various melodic inflections and refrains to bring “Dientes” from one eight-bar section to the next. As for DJ Khaled… well, his ad-libs get us ready for a pop hit, and we can all agree that hearing his yells hasn’t gotten any less entertaining.

“Dientes” Music Video

Meanwhile, “Dientes” also came out with a glitzy and playful music video that also speaks to the history behind these artists. They all have big plans on the way, with Khaled in particular teasing his next studio effort with a lot of excitement. We’ll see if these characters ever cross paths on wax again for something more to shake the dance floor with. If you haven’t heard “Dientes,” find it on your preferred streaming service, and check out the music video above and some notable bars below. Also, keep checking in with HNHH for the latest on DJ Khaled, J Balvin, and Usher.

Elyrix Nabs NAV Feature For His Newest Single “Looking At Me”

Just over a month ago, we covered a newer artist on the scene out of Montréal, Québec, Canada. His name is Elyrix, a 30-year-old rapper and vocalist who is making waves up north. He began releasing music to streaming back in 2020 with the release of his debut project. I Feel Better Alone was a solo project that was recorded in his basement. All artists have to start somewhere and Elyrix certainly put his heart and soul into his first offering to make sure he could have a more stable foundation.

That came to fruition for the artist, as he was able to eventually build his own studio. Subsequently, slowing down was not an option for Elyrix. Less than a year later break & tell came out and that really got things in motion for him Some high-level performances at a few shows got some major rapper’s attention. Rick RossGucci ManeLil Baby, and Gunna, were all impressed with his style and sound. So much so, that all four of them and more would go on to appear on his Ostrogoth, Pt. 1 tape. More ears caught wind of Elyrix because of this and he grabbed Gunna for a single just about a week later on “Day Off,” which is blowing up.

Listen To “Looking At Me” From Elyrix And NAV

All of this hard work brings us to another new single a week later called “Looking At Me.” This time he joins NAV in the studio, as his recognition continues to flourish. It is a quick two-minute cut, but do not let the time fool you. The track is hard-hitting with Elyrix even co-producing it. According to Genius, this looks to be on his Ostrogoth, Pt. 2 which is possible slated for a 2024 release.

What are your initial thoughts on this brand new song, “Looking At Me,” featuring Elyrix and NAV? Is this his best single of 2023? Which song of his is your favorite? Nas’ And Lil Wayne’s Bars Will “Never Die” Out

Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, better known as Nas, is back with his third album of 2023. The 50-year-old’s work ethic is unlike anything we have ever seen in the history of the genre. Since 2020, he and his partner in crime, Hit-Boy, have released tons of music. In fact, this is their sixth album in a row. Furthermore, the duo has gone on to complete two trilogies in this span. The first one to reach finality was the King’s Disease series, which wrapped up on April 28, 2023. Now, the Magic continues with the third and last installment. God’s Son released this album on his birthday no less so you know he had to end things on a high note.

The Queens, New York icon did just that, with Magic 3 being the lengthiest project out of the trio. It features a tracklist of 15 cuts with a runtime of 45 minutes and 50 seconds, to be exact. What is also impressive about this album, is that Nas and Hit-Boy handle all of the production here. That speaks to how great Nas is because his rapping across this project is rock solid all the way through.

Listen To “Never Die” From Nas, Hit-Boy, And Lil Wayne

There is plenty of quality here, but one that might stand above the rest for most listeners is “Never Die.” It is the sixth cut off of the record and it possesses the only feature which is Lil Wayne. These two do not have a long work history with Nas appearing on the “Outro” of Tha Carter IV (Complete Edition). Even with their short track record both trade some truly incredible flows, wordplay, and bars on this punchy three-minute song. Some of Wayne’s bars are below, but Nas goes off too. “This my Tom Cruise flow, top gun, they too slow / Computers ain’t fast enough to keep up with Nasty ’cause.”

What are your initial thoughts on this brand new track from Nas, Hit-Boy, and Lil Wayne, “Never Die?” Is this the best song off of Magic 3? Who had the best performance on this track? If you watch the music video that goes along with it, you will notice plenty of things. Aside from the video, when you listen to the song, the rapper is paying homage to Project Pat from Three 6 Mafia with his flow. The Weeknd is a legendary artist who has consistently made chart-topping music. In addition to his solo efforts, he has delivered some phenomenal features over the years. These features are considered to be legendary in their own right. However, it seems like he is retiring from making features. Yes, that’s right, he has only more feature left in him, and it was released today. As we reported on extensively, the feature comes in the form of a verse and hook on the track “Another One Of Me.” This is a cut from Diddy’s The Love Album: Off The Grid.

The song also features the likes of 21 Savage and French Montana. Overall, this is a song that everyone was looking forward to. SZA & Justin Bieber Link Up For Acoustic Version Of “Snooze”

SZA has been on a roll as of late. Overall, it started all the way back in 2022 thanks to her wonderful album S.O.S. This is a project that contained some of the artist’s best songs and singles. In fact, many of these singles have been doing big numbers on the Billboard chart. As it stands, the one that seems to be doing the best is none other than “Snooze.” This is a heartwarming ballad that has proven to be one of the best tracks on the entire album. However, it seems like SZA is not done with it yet.

Today, seemingly out of nowhere, the artist came through with a gorgeous new version of the track. This version is an acoustic ballad that comes complete with a feature from Justin Bieber. Interestingly enough, Bieber was in the music video for “Snooze.” Overall, many were questioning that decision and whether or not it was ultimately necessary. Although now that we have this new version of the track, it is clear that, yes, it was necessary.
