M. Rumbi And Iyanah Connect With BasicCity On “Lose” Single: Listen

The start of a new year is obviously the perfect time to embrace new things – including new artists! We’ve already been putting plenty on your radar over the past two weeks, but now, we’ve got something exciting from M. Rumbi for your consideration.

“I wanted to put out more (ALL THE) music this year, so I decided I will release a song every two weeks for the entirety of 2023,” the producer explained in an Instagram post on January 3.

His first release in this new series is “Lose.” It finds him linking up with long-term collaborator Iyanah as well as creative duo BasicCity to curate a magical soundscape that’s sure to hook readers with just one listen.

A press release describes Rumbi’s work as “a catchy and energetic hip-hop track with heavy-hitting 808s, smooth pianos and synths.” However, we still think you should listen for yourself a time or two to really get a feel for cross-cultural creation.

“What have you got to lose? / Dammit, you’re so consumed / I think you got confused / It wasn’t me, it’s you,” the song begins.

Elsewhere on his Instagram page, the producer revealed that he sampled a previously released song of his called “Wonder” to make the beat for “Lose.”

Upon its debut, M. Rumbi revealed that his first track of 2023 has landed on various noteworthy playlists. Among them are New Music Friday in both Kenya and Ghana, plus Spotify’s 254 Flow.

Additionally, a lyric video has made its way onto YouTube so fans of the track can sing along as they groove to the rhythm.

Dreamer Isioma Drops Off New Song, “F*ck Tha World”

Dreamer Isioma is quickly becoming one of the most diverse multi-genre artists in the industry. Their unique R&B sound continues to make them one of the new artists that needs to be on your radar. As they continue their momentum into 2023, it seems as though they’re bound to blow up soon.

On Friday (January 13), they dropped off their brand new single, “F*ck Tha World.” Additionally, there’s a music video to go along with it.

The groovy track finds Isioma getting candidly honest about their feelings towards life and self-discovery. “When I disappear to go find myself, I learn the end is near / Rest in peace to your everything,” they sing, opening up the song straightaway.

In the subsequent second verse, they proceed to do more vocally and even experiment with melodically rapping. “Infrared beams on my forehead / I don’t give a f*ck when I’m on tour / Used to give a f*ck, not anymore / Technicolor lights used to keep me up at night, now sleep next to a TEC,” they express explicitly.

However, the hook is undeniably the focus point here. “F*ck the world, it’s all gonna blow up anyways / We’re all gonna float to outer space / Saying ‘f*ck the world’ brings me inner peace / It’s all gonna blow up anyway,” sings Isioma. Overall, their care-free attitude compliments the dreamy production to make this a fun, relatable song.

In February of last year, their official debut album, Goodnight Dreamer arrived. Over the course of its 13 tracks, Isioma experiments with an array of different genres and musical influences.

Furthermore, they saw viral success thanks to their 2020 hit, “Sensitive,” which made waves across TikTok and social media. “I’d never sell out for a check, you stupid motherf*cka / I’ll buy a house and on my own, I put that on my mother / My babe’s gon’ rock Christian Dior, I put that on my lover,” they sing in the undeniably catchy track.

Reuben Vincent Stays “Trickin’” On New Song With Domani

Reuben Vincent just released “Trickin’” with Domani, a soulful, downtrodden, yet beautifully produced and performed single. Moreover, it keeps up his collaborations with 9th Wonder through his Jamla Records label. The last we heard from them on the site was the single “High Noon” with Rapsody and Murs, and it looks like Vincent is prepping for a big new step.

Furthermore, the Charlotte rapper is dropping his Jamla debut, Love Is War, sometime this January. While he’s only 22 years old, he’s already making a name for himself as a thoughtful and skilled writer. In a press statement, Vincent explained this track’s themes of relationship struggles in the current generation.

“‘Trickin” is a tale of three stories,” he stated. “The song amplifies the wrongs in dating culture today for my generation and how it plays out in different scenarios. The first verse is something I lived. I was involved with a girl in a situationship, and once she caught feelings I became detached and acknowledge my imperfections.

“In the second verse,” he continued, “I speak from the perspective of a guy ‘tricking’ on a girl, thinking he has the upper hand when ultimately it’s the other way around. I’ve lived the first experience first-hand and witnessed the second one happen to many other people. After I recorded my verses, I drove down to Atlanta the next day and played it for Domani and he immediately hopped on it; the rest is history.

“All im’a say is make sure you remember when, and where you were when you first heard this song because that question WILL be asked in the next ten years,” featured guest Domani added.  “Trickin” is Storytelling + Vulnerable-Ignorance= Art.”

Still, what did you think of this new track from up-and-comer Reuben Vincent, “Trickin’” featuring Domani? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments and peep some quotable bars down below. How considerate of I to be so ignorant,

Clay “Krucial” Perry III Delivers “Switches” With NLE Choppa

Clay “Krucial” Perry III just tapped NLE Choppa for “Switches,” a woozy and relatively low-key cut from two Memphis MCs. While Krucial is still forging his way in the rap game, the support from a Memphis star is surely useful. Moreover, last we heard of Krucial on HNHH was his project If We Must Die, which featured the likes of Trippie Redd and Blocboy JB.

Even though it’s been a while since that tape, Krucial put in some work last year. Furthermore, along with a few singles, he delivered his Clay EP. Also, this newest single came with the announcement of his upcoming mixtape, Wake Me Up When It’s Over. His team announced its February 2nd release and said it would be on Tay Keith’s Drumatize (DOA) label. Given the features, it seems like a Memphis round-up, as the names included Choppa, Blocboy, Lil Migo, Kevo Muney, and Lil Beezy.

On this newest track, Krucial and Choppa’s talent solidified excitement for this new album. Moreover, their flows are fast and emphatic, the autotune doesn’t overwhelm the verses, and their writing seems sharp and measured. Moreover, there are some very dramatic vocal samples used that give the track a slightly epic feel. Even if it doesn’t reinvent the Memphis wheel, it certainly is another example of the region’s overwhelming talent and chemistry between its artists.

Still, what did you think of Krucial’s latest track, “Switches” featuring NLE Choppa? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments and check out some notable lyrics and the song’s music video down below. Also, if you haven’t heard “Switches” yet, you can find the new single on your preferred streaming service. As always, stay tuned to HNHH for the best new hip-hop each week from Memphis and beyond.

Lil Gnar Is Relentless On New Song, “Stonecrest”

Atlanta rapper Lil Gnar is back with a new dense single, “Stonecrest.” After his previous track “Triple S,” produced by Chief Keef, Gnar clearly refined his skill set. Moreover, this track features absolutely relentless flows, lyrical depth, and a powerful music video. With all this in mind, this newest single is one of the most definitive and idiosyncratic Gnar tracks to date.

While aggression and cold-blooded demeanors are nothing new in hip-hop, the 26-year-old processes them in his own way. For example, his rusty and rugged voice makes for a surprisingly engaging vocal performance, where his lines are more important than the hype behind them. There’s a certain weariness to his voice that may disinterest some listeners, but that makes his cutting lines all the more potent. Furthermore, it’s a style he already honed quite successfully on his debut 43B single, “Almighty Gnar” with Chief Keef.

Sosa signed Gnar to his 43B label, in partnership with RBC Records/BMG, back in June of 2022. Since then, the two aforementioned singles have done a lot to define his style and approach to trap music. On this track in particular, the Atlanta MC goes into themes of forgiveness, resilience, and redemption. Still, his focus is unwavering, his writing is sharp, and his style makes for some really compelling verses and beats.

What did you think of Lil Gnar’s latest single, “Stonecrest”? Moreover, did you get excited for his next album executive produced by Chief Keef, Gnar Life 2? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments and peep the music video and standout bars down below. If you haven’t heard “Stonecrest” yet, you can find the track on your preferred streaming service. As always, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest great rap tracks and projects from its rising voices.

Millyz Drops Fiery New Song, “YOYO”

Millyz is gearing up to have another great year in 2023. As he continues to bring his momentum into the new year, he returned on Friday (January 13) to drop his brand new single, “YOYO.”

Produced by Rvssian, the booming 808s combine with the bright strings to provide the Massachusetts rapper with a drill-inspired backdrop. Over the beat, Millyz takes his turn at effortlessly flexing his lifestyle and rapping abilities.

He wastes no time showing off his lyricism. “I seen my dawg turn b*tch and I seen real turn fake / There’s too many rats and snakes / Stick in the back of the Wraith / Tell ’em ‘back up,’ need space,” he kicks off his first verse.

“Shorty a demon, face of an angel / My diamond chains get tangled / I’m in the field, stripes like a bengal,” the 31-year-old explicitly continues in his second verse.

Additionally, an accompanying music video also arrives alongside the new song. During the entertaining video, he turns up to his new banger at various different locations.

Over the course of the past several years, the 31-year-old lyricist has been consistently working towards keeping his Blanco series alive. The most recent addition is the fifth instalment, Blanco 5. The 17-track tape was released last August and boasts features from the likes of Jadakiss, Fivio Foreign, Mozzy and others. The original instalment saw its release in 2018.

Millyz is also a frequent collaborator of Chris Webbby and the late great DJ Kay Slay. Additionally, he appears on Jadakiss‘ last solo album, 2020’s Ignatius. On “Gov’t Cheese,” he joins DeJ Loaf and Nino Man for an expressive song about fighting through tribulations.

Make sure to stream Millyz’s “YOYO” on either Spotify or SoundCloud down below. Afterwards, comment your thoughts. Finally, stay tuned to HNHH for all of the latest updates and releases.

Jeremih Drops Sped-Up Version Of “Changes”

While sites like TikTok popularized speeding up or slowing down audio, the music industry made it official by taking advantage of the demand. Jeremih is the latest artist to do so, as he dropped “Changes (Sped Up).” Moreover, the original track was a smooth, slow, and sultry R&B cut with vivid instrumentation. While the song’s original drama isn’t downplayed in the sped up version, the emotion comes across as slightly more nostalgic.

Furthermore, it’s funny that something so taken for granted as tempo and pitch can drastically change a song’s vibe. Even if the lyrics are still the same, the high pitch in the piano keys make the song sound like a dream. Also, the fact that the track’s sound still fits the lyrical content speaks to the song’s dynamism. The first track came across as lustful, but the production on the sped up version reins that back a little.

Meanwhile, it’s replaced by what sounds like a West Coast type beat that could still have Lil Baby rapping over it like it’s nothing. As the R&B singer croons about a struggling relationship and being left in the dust, the verses and choruses swell in and out with warm horns and live percussion. Still, if you don’t like the sped up version, maybe the upcoming slowed down one will be more up your alley.

While Jeremih released plenty of music last year, much of it came in the form of features and guest appearances. As one of the most notable R&B singers of the 2010s, his presence on a track is sure to inject some soul no matter what. For example, he assisted singer Nakkia Gold on her relationship-heavy December album, Like Girls.

What did you think of the sped up version of “Changes” by Jeremih? Moreover, do you prefer it over the original, or do the first track’s smoother R&B leanings hit harder for you? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments and check out some standout lines from the song down below as well. Also, if you haven’t checked it out yet, you can find “Changes (Sped Up)” on your preferred streaming service. As always, check back in with HNHH for the best new R&B each week.

J.I. Comes Through with “It’s Officially Done”

J.I. brought a healthy dose of nostalgia with the release of his latest single, “It’s Officially Done.”

Today, the “Toxic” rapper returned with his first offering of the new year. “It’s Officially Done” brings a classic New York swag to the forefront with a bit of modernization. The rapper takes on a sample from 112’s “It’s Over Now” and transforms it into a smooth banger. His melodies shine on the record but he also showcases his growth and maturity over the years.

J.I.’s kept a consistent stream of music on hand in the past few years since releasing Welcome To GStarr Vol. 1 in 2020. He dropped off the third installment in the Hood Life Krisis series shortly after before releasing Young & Restless Vol. 1 Baby Don last year. During that time, he expanded well-beyond New York with collaborations alongside artists in the UK and even Spanish-speaking rappers.

J.I. certainly came a long way since his appearance on The Rap Game — the same show that gave Latto her big break. The rapper’s gone onto earn co-signs from artists like Drake and Roddy Ricch while carving his sound out further. We’re excited to hear what he has up his sleeve this year.

Check out his new single below.

Quotable Lyrics

I could make you wet but I can’t make no promises

When you was fucked up, who you called on? When you slip up, who you fall on?

Logic Drops First Single, “Wake Up” From Forthcoming Album, “College Park”

Logic has flirted with retirement from the rap game before. However, it really seems as though the Maryland native loves hip-hop too much to actually commit to never releasing another album.

On Friday (January 13), the 32-year-old dropped his brand new single, “Wake Up.” Featuring Lucy Rose narrating the outro, the track finds Logic candidly reflecting on his journey and career thus far. He does so in one lengthy, conscious verse.

“I went through the worst, but I made it out / Like the Alpha Omega, to show me which way it could go, yeah, he laid it out / Instead of just sittin’ on a beach, I’m reconnectin’ with the streets / It wasn’t payin’ attention, I was prayin’ for a cent,” raps the future father of two.

“And on a beautiful autumn day in 2011, Logic and his best friends drive through the slums of College Park in a Chevy Impala,” narrates frequent collaborator, Lucy Rose, come the track’s end. She goes on to perfectly paint the picture of Logic’s come-up and success.

The song serves as the first single to his forthcoming album, College Park. It will be his debut independent album, after finishing his contract with Def Jam with last year’s Vinyl Days. The project comes out on February 24 and will feature RZA, Redman, Joey Bada$$ and more.

Furthermore, the single’s album cover is reminiscent of Logic’s classic 2014 album, Under Pressure. It will certainly be interesting to see whether or not College Park follows a similar format.

Quotable Lyrics:

Gucci Mane & Kodak Black Deliver On New Song, “King Snipe”

Both Gucci Mane and Kodak Black had extremely busy years in 2022, dropping multiple projects each. The rappers are evidently looking to stay hot as they enter 2023.

On Friday (January 13), the duo dropped their brand new collaborative single, “King Snipe.” The “Both” rapper took to his Twitter account to tease the song on Tuesday (January 10). “Guwop and Zuwop dropping another classic Friday,” the Alabama native writes in his tweet.

Kodak kicks things off with a triumphant verse. “When them bullets had came my way, I say, ‘I bet Kodak ain’t dyin’ / We put murders backwards after, we turned red rum to wine / I’m that n*gga that smack all the smackers, so I’m the biggest stepper,” the 25-year-old raps with confidence.

“I’ve been true to this from the jump / When I do it, consider it done / F*ck a shooter, b*tch, ’cause I’m one / On point like I’m a dot,” he subsequently raps as part of the track’s hook.

When Gucci comes in for his sole feature verse, he spits a verse reminiscent of his prime mixtape days. “Told her ring up, they didn’t know the amount / Expensive new ferries, I couldn’t even pronounce,” he spits.

The new song also arrives with an accompanying music video.

Of course, this is certainly not the first time that Gucci and Kodak have released music together. Their first track “Vibin In This Bih” is a standout on the Florida native’s 2016 mixtape, Lil Big Pac. Most notably, however, they collaborated in 2018 for the mega-hit, “Wake Up in the Sky” with Bruno Mars.

Make sure to stream Gucci Mane and Kodak Black’s “King Snipe” on either Spotify or SoundCloud down below. Comment your thoughts afterwards. Finally, stay tuned to HNHH for all of the newest releases.
