Yhapojj Channels His Emotions On Colorful New Album “No Ceilings”

Yhapojj is right in the sweet spot of sad boy rappers. It’s been well-chronicled that hip hop has taken a less celebratory, and more moody direction in the last decade. Call it the Drake effect, or the Soundcloud effect, but it’s a thing. Yhapojj’s lyrics are reflective and self-effacing in the vein of those who influenced him. What sets him apart, however, is his production. The rapper prefers to bare his soul over glitzy and often colorful instrumentals. No Ceilings isn’t a happy album, per say, but it sounds as bright and lush as its pink artwork suggests.

Yhapojj has one speed, which is rap-singing. He adopts the same flow across the entire album. It then falls to the production to keep things sounding fresh, and it delivers. The bittersweet “All Falls Down” is a slice of Lil Uzi Vert-style emo rap. “Blo K” sounds like it a long lost cut from Playboi Carti’s Die Lit period, while “Untouchable” evokes classic cloud rap production. Yhabojj’s lyrics are often difficult to make out, due to his slurring of words or his vocal fry. The good news is that the lyrics are less a point of focus than another instrument to fill out the musical bed of each song. No Ceilings is nothing like the Lil Wayne tape of the same name, but it holds up on its own.

DDG Previews New Song With Tory Lanez Verse Recorded In Prison

DDG is famous for multiple reasons. He broke out as a YouTuber and social media personality. His profile went through the roof when he started dating singer Halle Bailey. Now, however, DDG is dedicated to his music career. The celebrity has abandoned his YouTube career to make a focused push at being a rapper following his split from Bailey. He recently dropped the single “Trickin.” It’s the teaser for his new single, however, that has fans intrigued. DDG seemingly linked up with Tory Lanez, despite the latter currently serving a decade behind bars. The song is rumored to drop December 13.

DDG has yet to release song, or its title. He did, however, preview a snippet of it on social media. The rapper can be seen bopping along in the studio while playing the song on his phone. He then holds up the phone to a microphone. Tory Lanez’s verse can be heard blaring through the phone speakers. Tory seemingly recorded his verse via telephone while locked up. It’s the first time fans have gotten to hear a Lanez verse since the rapper’s recording equipment was seized by prison guards in September. Lanez had rolled out an ongoing series called Prison Tapes, but the series was shut down unceremoniously.

DDG Previewed Tory Lanez’s Verse On An iPhone

“I was shut down because the higher ups figured out what I was really doing with The Prison Tapes,” the rapper claimed via Instagram. “And how many inmates were being helped in a life-changing way because of them.” DDG’s decision to link up with Tory Lanez has surprised many, given the former’s public image as a family man and a clean cut artist. That said, the rapper has never been afraid of delving into complex topics or addressing controversial aspects of his life. On “WHAT U BAD FOR,” DDG referenced his highly publicized split from Halle Bailey.

DDG flexed his newfound single status, but admitted that he will always have love for Bailey. “Thing about Halo mommy, you know that’s my baby forever,” he rapped. “Y’all know that I love that—.” The word “H*e” gets replaced with the word “go.” DDG has yet to confirm a title or release date for his new album. That said, fans have gotten to hear multiple singles. It’s safe to assume that the Tory Lanez collab will make the final tracklist.

K Camp Details The “Consequences” Of Fame & Life On His Latest Single

K CAMP is here to make everyone aware of life’s “Consequences” on his first release since his seven-track EP, Float Island. The Wisconsin rapper and singer sounds very purposeful on the cut, which features a slower and soulful trap beat. On it, he raps about what will happen if people try to mess with him or try to take advantage of him and his success. “These n****s watchin’ my profile, these n****s in my loop / These b****es lovin’ my profile, you know they on me too, for real / Be careful with these h*es ’cause these h*es’ll line you up.”

Additionally, K CAMP touches on how life can be unfair sometimes. “I got so much to say and damn, I miss my dog, for real / I feel alone off in this s***, didn’t know it would come to this.” Overall, it’s a pretty personal cut, and one that fans should come to love from the hitmaker. It’s been a big year for K CAMP, and “Consequences” should put a nice bow on everything. That also includes his first LP since 2022 with Float 2 London, another installment in this growing series of his. It’s unclear what the ultimate destiny will be for this cut, but it’s an enjoyable listen regardless, so check it out below.

Sean Leon Treats Fans To Extended Album “IN LOVING MEMORY +”

Sean Leon has been making music for over a decade. He has a sprawling discography for those who are relatively new to his unique hybrid of styles and genres. IN LOVING MEMORY was definitely a breakout moment for the artist, however. The 2023 album was a gorgeous fusion of content and music, allowing Sean Leon to showcase all of his talents in a single listening experience. Perhaps realizing that this was his finest album to date, Leon decided to add more. IN LOVING MEMORY + is an expansion upon to his last release, with eight more songs.

You know the first 14 songs on here. They are excellent and soulful. The bonus songs are revelations, however. “DOES IT HURT?” is a tender ballad set to a thumping dance beat pulled right out of the early 1990s. “GREY SKIES” is a chopped up meditation on love and life that sounds like a Canadian riff on an old Pharcyde track. “HEART RATE” is a slick, melodic rap cut, but “RHYAN’s HYMN” is the real stunner towards the back end. It radiates gospel warmth, in both Sean Leon’s impassioned vocal and the dingy, demo-sounding quality of the recording. IN LOVING MEMORY already felt like a complete thought, but Sean Leon proved that he had more to say. This is a rare instance of an extended version actually making the original album better.

Mozzy, Kalan.FrFr And Rob49 Turn Up The Heat With “BBL” Single

Mozzy and Kalan.FrFr are both wildly productive artists. They’ve dropped dozens of mixtapes and albums, as both solo artists and collaborators. They always have something in the works. It was only a matter of time before Mozzy and Kalan.FrFr team up on a full length album, and LUCKY HER is right around the corner. The collab album is due out December 20. We’ve yet to get a proper tracklist, but buzz single “BBL” gives us plenty of reasons to be excited for the whole thing.

“BBL” may seem like a riff on the recent trend of BBL surgeries, or the “BBL Drizzy” memes that sprung up during the peak of the Drake vs. Kendrick battle. Mozzy and Kalan.FrFr are using the acronym for an altogether different meaning, though. The duo are rapping about what “bad b*tches like,” and how they have no problem getting it for them. The instrumental is moody and nocturnal, evoking the Bay sound with a hint of the “sexy trap” that people have Cash Cobain have popularized. Rob49 comes in with a memorable guest verse. At the end of the day, though, it’s Mozzy and Kalan.FrFr’s show. We can’t wait for the album.

Rich Amiri Treats Fans To A Raging Party With “War Ready” Album

Rich Amiri is a bit of a hybrid artist. He has the melodic vocals and hard-nosed lyrics of someone like Polo G. Musically, though, Amiri is closer in spirit to rage rappers like Yeat and Ken Carson. Every Rich Amiri album is a sonic adventure, and War Ready is no exception. The album lives up to its title with a batch of songs that are energetic, propulsive, and filled with confrontational bars. The opener, “AMIRI TRENDSETTER,” is an excellent OsamaSon collab, but it doesn’t really serve as a good indicator of the album overall. It’s mid-tempo and club ready more than War Ready.

Don’t worry, though, because the energy ramps up with the second track, ‘OH MYY.” Rich Amiri goes ballistic over a synth-driven beat. He’s talking about anything and everything, but the vibe is addictive and the flow is undeniable. The best songs on War Ready see Rich Amiri take minimal instrumentals and utterly dominate them with his catchy refrains and outlandish bars. There aren’t many guest features, but versatile cuts like the spacey “U WANT THAT?” and the trap-flavored “GUTTA GUTTA” keep things from sounding too samey. Be sure to check out “G23,” a standout that sounds like the love child of Cloud Rap and sticky Dirty South melodies.

SZA Teases Anticipated “LANA” Album With Bizarre Nature Trailer

SZA has spoken. The singer has always been unpredictable when it comes to her album rollouts and promo. She’s been telling fans about the deluxe edition of SOS for close to a year. Well, we officially entered the LANA era on December 9. SZA took to social media to post a bizarre video. It’s not clear what the video is supposed to be at first, but those who watched the whole thing discovered that it’s meant to kick off a new album cycle. We’re getting LANA much sooner than we expected.

The reason fans were initially unsure as to the video’s purpose was its content. It contains no dialogue or text for the bulk of its runtime. Instead, it sees SZA wander through the forest. The singer is filmed from above, and appears to be alone. She then stops walking, squats down, and uses the restroom. We’re left to watch as she finishes up and then walks out of frame. Bizarre? Very. But the text tacked on to the end of the video confirms that SZA is back. The text “LANA (SOS Deluxe)” gets plastered on to the screen. It helps that SZA writes “clock starts now” in the caption. She also teases a new song with a notable Isley Brothers sample.

SZA Previously Said LANA Would Release In 2024

SZA originally planned to release LANA sooner, but the creative process took over. She explained the unexpected process of this album coming together during an interview with British Vogue. “I think I am making music from a more beautiful place,” she explained. “From a more possible place versus a more angsty place… Piece by piece, my music is shifting because of that, the lighter I get.” In a separate interview, SZA admitted that the album would have come out sooner were it not for leaks. The leaks forced the singer to reconsider the material she had, and reshape the deluxe version of SOS.

She told Billboard that she’s looking forward to closing the book on a particular musical period in her life. “After I do the deluxe, I’m hoping to be able to accept that this chapter is done,” she stated. “I’m looking forward to actually feeling proud of myself and not just smiling and nodding at accolades.” A release date was not provided in the new album trailer. An official announcement, however, suggests that the fans can expect it to be soon.

Sade Adu Makes Her Grand Return On Our New “R&B Season” Playlist Update

Even though the end of the year doesn’t yield much new music, our latest R&B Season playlist update is here to round up the best of the best recent drops within or adjacent to the genre. In fact, we have a massive one to talk about this week, as Sade Adu dropped her first official release in about six years, “Young Lion.” It’s for the TRANSA compilation from the non-profit organization Red Hot, which featured many transgender artists and focuses on the community. Moreover, this song is dedicated to the singer’s transgender son, and it’s a gorgeously atmospheric and calming cut.

Elsewhere in the R&B world, we also wanted to shout out Roy Woods for his brief but still captivating new project, Rolling Stone. It has a sole feature from 03 Greedo, so the vocalist carries his own weight for much of the tracklist and indulges in the genre fusions he’s well-known for. For example, one of the highlights on here is “Solo” thanks to its passionate and overwhelming vocal performance and how it contrasts with the airy instrumentation and steady drums.

HNHH R&B Season Playlist

Also, we’d be remiss not to mention the new deluxe version of Khalid’s Sincere, which adds a couple more collaborative cuts and solo records to the original tracklist. These include “Personal” with Normani, “Make It Up To You” with Ayra Starr, and “MIA” featuring Chlöe. That last one in particular is one of the bouncier songs on the whole LP, and the crisp percussion adds a pretty fun vibe to a tune that would otherwise sound more melancholy. Not only that, but it certainly helps that they’re both very talented singers with plenty of chemistry on this particular cut.

But the end of 2024 isn’t just giving us some new R&B cuts to enjoy. Our latest Fire Emoji playlist update also rounded up the highlights of the week within the hip-hop world, including the new single from Lil Baby, “Touchdown.” He just announced his new album Wham for January 3 of next year, and this more menacing and hard-hitting track indicates some bangers on the way. Hopefully he delivers!

Lil Baby Announces New Album “Wham” For Early 2025 Along With Key Young Thug Update

Lil Baby fans have been waiting for him to come back in full-length form for years now, and 2022’s It’s Only Me left a sour taste in many of their mouths. Fortunately for them, it seems like the Atlanta MC is poised to do just that, as he announced his new album Wham over the weekend. It’s set for release on January 3, so it’ll kick off 2025 with a bang. What’s more is that we also have the feature list for the “Touchdown” rapper’s upcoming LP. Reportedly, it will feature appearances from Future (twice), GloRilla, Rod Wave, Travis Scott, and 21 Savage.

It’s a pretty exciting list, but one more name makes things even more hyped. Lil Baby will also reportedly feature Young Thug on Wham, although it’s unclear in what capacity Thugger could show up. Maybe it’ll just be some vocals for an intro or his first full-on verse since his release from jail, but either way, fans can’t wait to find out. They, Travis Scott, and Future hit the studio together recently, so maybe that indicates a more substantial guest slot.

Lil Baby Announces Wham, Dropping 1/3

Elsewhere, though, Lil Baby also left fans scratching their heads this week thanks to his aforementioned new single “Touchdown” and one particular bar off of it. “Real gangster, I ain’t rocking no nail polish,” he rapped on the cut. Listeners theorized as to whether this was a direct diss, they debated whether or not men should use nail polish, and they questioned why another man would even care. All in all, it’s the same thinly-veiled homophobia that dominates discussions like these. Although, Baby probably didn’t mean it as seriously as others took it.

Meanwhile, Lil Baby fans don’t have to wait long for this new Wham album, which must feel amazing. They’re curious as to what could appear on this project lyrically. Some recent situations like supposed IG beef with Offset became big headlines. He certainly has a lot of time to make up for and a lot of topics that he could dive deep into. So we’ll see how this intro to rap in 2025 shapes up.

Lil Baby Scores A “Touchdown” On Our New “Fire Emoji” Playlist Update: Stream

The year is not over yet, and our latest Fire Emoji playlist update is here to round up the best of the best rap releases in December’s first week. Kicking off our path towards the end zone is the latest single from Lil Baby, titled “Touchdown.” It’s a pretty nasty Wheezy beat with rattling trap percussion, dramatic orchestral samples, and the same lackadaisical flow that the Atlanta rapper has perfected over the years. Compared to his more mellow and expressive far, this is a pretty menacing display that might point towards his presumed upcoming album’s direction. It’s not the most new thing in the world, but it does a solid job of locking you into its verses.

Next up on Fire Emoji is the new album from NBA YoungBoy, I Just Got A Lot On My Shoulders. With an artist as prolific and lane-sticking as YB, any deviation is that much more potent. If you’re used to the Baton Rouge lyricist’s more aggressive fare, then cuts on this new project like “Stealing Out The Trap” may surprise you. The light guitars and drums don’t do the best job of making his vocal delivery any less grading, but it’s an interesting contrast that shows off his dynamism.

HNHH Fire Emoji Playlist

Elsewhere on Fire Emoji is a remix of one of the most viral 2024 hits: Hanumankind and Kalmi’s speedy “Big Dawgs,” which now features an opening verse from A$AP Rocky. The Harlem MC does a great job of matching this full-throttle banger with some boisterous bars and masterful flow control. On the opposite side of the spectrum is Roddy Ricch and Terrace Martin’s gorgeous new collab “Lonely Road.” This cut is a much more somber and reflective one, with saxophones emphasizing the passionate vocal performance from the Compton spitter.

Speaking of collabs – and remixes – Lil Tjay and Polo G teamed up for “Way Out The Hood II,” on which the Chicago artist adds a verse to the Bronx native’s original. The track was already a solid and relaxing record to begin with, and Polo adds a lot of perspective to it. Finally on Fire Emoji, we can’t leave without shouting out Skepta and Lex Luger’s “Alpha Omega” for its fiery and brash tone. It’s one of the most confident cuts you’ll hear this week.
