Azealia Banks Labels Ice Spice The “Antithesis” Of “Y2K” In Latest Criticism

Azealia Banks says “nothing” Ice Spice is doing to promote her new album is accurate to the Y2K aesthetic she’s trying to curate. She went on a scathing rant about the New York rapper’s album promo in a post on Instagram, on Tuesday, making Spice the latest of several artists Banks has slammed on social media in recent days.

“Somebody needs to tell @icespice Absolutely nothing about this aesthetically, performance wise, production wise is Y2K at all,” Banks began. “This is like VIM early Nicki Minaj pack weave sh*t. We need a new hair color and a new facial expression. Ice I love you clown but you should put the halt button, drop David lachapplle and re do this. Big butts and bbl bodies are the ANTIHESIS OF Y2K.” From there, she shared several images of artists she feels are more accurate to the era.

When The Neighborhood Talk shared the posts on Instagram, fans in the comments section agreed with the criticism. “She right,” one top comment reads. “I am Y2K. I remember when we thought the Motorola was gonna stop working because it couldn’t register 2000.” Another user writes: “As someone who was 13 in the year 2000… a lot of these girlies who were newborns honestly have no idea what Y2K is supposed to give… it’s true..” Others suggested Spice look to Lil Kim, Missy Elliott, Foxy Brown, and Eve for inspiration. Don Toliver Teases Potential Collab Album With Travis Scott

Don Toliver is on the ascent. The singular artist just scored the best first-week sales of his career with Hardstone Psycho, and for good reason. The album represents Toliver’s most ambitious and musically diverse set of songs yet. It’s easy to see why Travis Scott signed Don Toliver to his label back in 2018, and has since collaborated with him on multiple hits. Both Scott and Toliver lean into the woozy, trippy side of trap music, which means they’re often on the same page. A collab album between the two rap stars would be mind-boggling, and according to Toliver, it’s a real possibility.

The artist discussed his relationship with Travis Scott during a recent GQ profile. He praised the label boss for his artistry, and admitted that they”ve only grown closer as a collaborators. “I don’t know what the future holds, but I’m going to tell you this: I love Travis so much,” Don Toliver noted. “And me and him just, we grow together.” The outlet asked whether fans could expect to hear a joint album, and the artist said that it could be coming sooner than fans expect. “You can just about expect possibly anything from us,” he explained. “I can’t sit here and be like, ‘Oh, we’re doing the album next year.’ But I mean, I can just say this: me and Travis, it’d be a beautiful thing. And it doesn’t look too far away on the horizon. So, we’ll see.”

Don Toliver Claimed A Collab Album Isn’t “Too Far Away”

Don Toliver and Travis Scott’s track record is certainly encouraging. They have appeared on each other’s albums since the former signed to Scott’s label. Scott actually had two guest appearances on Hardstone Psycho with “ICE AGE” and “INSIDE.” The frequency of their collaborations stem from the fact that Scott and Toliver work incredibly fast together. Don Toliver detailed their process during a 2022 interview with Zane Lowe. “It’s simple math with us, man,” he explained. “We listen to the beat. We just go straight at it. Travis will jump straight in. I jump straight in, and we just feed off of each other’s energy every time. It’s always a good vibe.”

Scott has ran into some legal troubles as of late. The rapper was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and trespassing after allegedly yelling at yacht passengers in Miami Beach. He was released shortly after. “Mr. Scott was briefly detained due to a misunderstanding,” his rep, Bradford Cohen, said. “There was absolutely no physical altercation involved, and we thank the authorities for working with us towards a swift and amicable resolution.” Scott is currently in the midst of his Circus Maximus Tour.

Cardi B’s Princess Diana Tribute Has Fans Theorizing About Her Next Album

Cardi B recreated an iconic outfit from the late Princess Diana and in turn, has fans looking for clues about her highly-anticipated sophomore album. In a picture of her look, Cardi rocks a vintage Harvard sweatshirt above grey shorts with a pair of sunglasses on. She holds a black bag and is flaunting a pair of Jordans on her feet.

“The cover art of sza’s ‘sos’ references Princess Diana…,” one user pointed out. Another wrote: “Who else is trying to find a hidden album hint in these pictures?” One fan cited an article from Vogue. “According to Vogue, The photo that Cardi B remade was taken in 1997 and the caption under the picture was… ‘Fresh out of the gym and still looking polished owing to her muted sportswear and top handle tote,’” they noted.

YG Announces Release Date For New Summer Mixtape

The West Coast is having a moment. Kendrick Lamar brought everybody together for the “Pop Out” show, and generated cultural momentum that fans haven’t seen in years. YG was one of the artists who performed at the “Pop Out,” which not only confirmed his anti-Drake stance but solidified his reputation as a Bompton legend. It’s good to be a YG fan these days, and the rapper just made it better by revealing plans for a brand new mixtape.

YG broke the news on June 24. He posted the artwork for the mixtape on social media, along with the title and release date. The tape will be called Just Re’d Up 3, and the release date is August 16. There’s a lot to unpack here. For one, the rapper is striking while the West Coast iron is hot. His cache, as well as that of longtime collaborator DJ Mustard, is an all time high. Mustard has an album on the way, and so it makes perfect sense that YG would drop something as well. As one can infer from the title, Just Re’d Up 3 will be the latest installment in the rapper’s beloved Re’d Up series.

YG Returns To The Mixtape Series He Started In 2011

The first Just Re’d Up helped establish YG as a viable artist in 2011. Just Re’d Up 2 dropped when YG was on the cusp of becoming a mainstream star in 2013. The rapper hasn’t gone back to the series in over a decade, which could suggest a back-to-basics approach. The new single “Weird” supports this theory. YG takes aim at “weird rappers” on the track, with an instrumental that harkens back to his old sound. “You bitter-a*s n**gas be sweet, like Cheerios. Weird-a*s n**ga, you n**gas lame,” he raps. “When it’s smoke, don’t ever mention my name. You gon’ have me jeapoardizin’ my fame.”

The common reading of these lyrics is that he’s dissing Drake. The 6 God mentioned YG by name on “Family Matters,” and even though the mention was positive, it appears YG didn’t appreciate it. The fact that YG showed up to support Kendrick Lamar at the “Pop Out” show made it clear that he’s team K. Dot in the rap civil war. Other singles like “Miss My Dawgs” and the Spanish-flavored “KNOCKA” are set to appear on the Just Re’d Up 3 tracklist as well.

Metro Boomin Plans To Stop Releasing His Albums On Streaming Services

Metro Boomin is the most famous producer in hip-hop at the moment. He kicked off the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar battle, scoring a number one single and dropping a viral instrumental in the process. Both of his studio albums have gone platinum. He even dropped an acclaimed soundtrack to a Sony superhero film in 2023. He’s a recognizable brand, which is why he wants to make control over the distribution of his music. Namely, the use of digital streaming services.

Metro Boomin took a screenshot of a X (formerly Twitter) exchange on June 24. The screenshot was in response to a question about “industry math.” It broke down, in simple terms, how little an artist actually makes from an album when it’s uploaded to DSPs. “A fan needs to stream an artist’s music 20 times a day for a whole year for that artist to make $25 from that fan,” the tweet read. Metro Boomin not only co-signed the tweet, but made a big announcement. He told followers that these paltry streaming profits are partially why he’s going to stop putting albums on streaming. “This is why my next album probably be the last one streaming,” he wrote.

Metro Boomin’s Next Album Will Reportedly Be His Last On DSPs

The producer didn’t specify what his next album will be. The announcement could pose issues for DSPs like Apple Music and Spotify, though. Metro Boomin and Future dominated the Spotify charts with their joint album WE DON”T TRUST YOU in March. Forbes reported that the duo occupied half a dozen of the top 10 spots on Spotify’s U.S. charts. The biggest song, “Like That,” beat out the second place entry by an impressive 400K streams. This announcement comes a year after Metro Boomin decided to sell part of his publishing catalog to Shamrock Capital for $70 million.

Metro is mindful of his worth, but he’s made a point of avoiding “cash grab” trends. He spoke on the importance of maintaining a quality brand during an interview with Variety. “I feel like people can just tell I care,” he asserted. “At a time when everybody has their hand out — like, ‘Let me do this for cash; let me make a dance for TikTok’ — you can hear all the details and thought behind my music.” Only time will tell if the producer sticks to his non-streaming plan.

Camila Cabello Finally Premieres Drake Collaboration, “UUGLY,” At Rock In Rio Lisboa Festival

Camila Cabello finally premiered her highly-anticipated collaboration with Drake, “UUGLY,” while performing at the Rock in Rio Lisboa festival on Sunday night. The track will be included on her upcoming fourth studio album, C, XOXO, which drops later this month.

Fans on social media have been having a mixed response to the track. One user on X (formerly Twitter) replied to a clip of the song: “Honestly I think drake should just take off for a year or couple months.” That remark comes after his viral feud with Kendrick Lamar. Another fan wrote: “Damn bro fell off.” Others were more positive. One Drake fan remarked: “The actual [goat emoji] international not just in the west coast. Levels to this.”

Cabello previously discussed how the collaboration came together during an interview with Billboard in May. “He’s the f*cking GOAT, so it felt like shooting for the stars,” she said at the time, recalling how she messaged him on Instagram. “I showed him the album when I felt comfortable enough and he really liked it. [The feature] came out of a nontransactional place. He had this idea of a song called ‘Hot Uptown,’ and it just felt like I was in the city. I was in Miami.” She added: “He wanted to do one more thing for the album. Why does he have his own song? Because selfishly, I just want to hear Drake on my own album … I love that for me — it’s like that rebellious mood. Who says I can’t do that? It’s Drake talking his sh*t.”

ASAP Rocky Teases “Don’t Be Dumb” With Dramatic Trailer & Fans Can’t Believe It

Well, it’s finally here… or almost, at least, but even knowing of its existence is enough to vindicate and validate six years of agonizing patience. Moreover, ASAP Rocky is dropping his new album Don’t Be Dumb on August 30, and fans couldn’t be more excited, happy, or in disbelief about the news. He recently posted a new clip on his social media that features some masked and heavily clothed people walking around a smoky area with industrial buzzes, rising synthesizers, and dramatic droning in the background. It’s more of an atmospheric mood board than anything else, but we’ll take it with a big smile on our face now that we at least have a release date.

Furthermore, this is the first time that A$AP Rocky has fully locked in a release date for Don’t Be Dumb since he began teasing his fourth studio album all those years ago. From what new interviews, statements, and announcements indicate, he’s currently in the mixing and mastering phase of the project, which is very exciting since it suggests that the post-production process will be very detailed. The Harlem native is known for his attempts at creating full, distinct worlds with each of his full-length records, which are all very different from each other. Here’s hoping No. 4 sees him expand his reach and experiment some more.

ASAP Rocky’s Latest Don’t Be Dumb Teaser

Of course, a big part of the delays behind Don’t Be Dumb, and Rihanna’s much-anticipated album as well, has been her and A$AP Rocky’s relationship and new life as parents. Whether folks are critiquing their fashion styles or going wild over their wholesome posts or viral moments, there’s a lot to discuss around the power couple. Most importantly, it seems like they’re in a great place of joy and fulfillment that the creation of music likely can’t fill the void of anymore. But at least they’re still putting in hard work for their fans, and they want to get it just right.

So rejoice, A$AP Rocky fans: this isn’t another adorable Bottega Veneta campaign with his kids. This is the real deal, and it looks like Don’t Be Dumb will be one of the year’s biggest releases. Will he deliver yet another fantastic experience that pushes his artistry in a similar direction or can none of us predict what the madman will do on this latest experiment? For excitement’s sake, we’re hoping for the latter.

Latto Teases Album Title & Brings Out 21 Savage, Usher, & More Guests At Hot 107.9 Birthday Bash

Latto recently made Atlanta’s HOT 107.9 radio station history by becoming the first female artist to headline their Birthday Bash festival in the city. Moreover, she treated fans to a pretty energetic, star-studded, and monumental show that teased the title of her upcoming new album as Sugar Honey Iced Tea. The ATL femcee brought out her rumored boo 21 Savage, Usher, Summer Walker, Anycia, and Rasheeda as special guests for the performance as well, making sure that folks had new things to look forward to every few songs. It all seemed like a lot of fun, and like she’s almost ready to take things to the next level with her soon-to-come LP.

Furthermore, this Birthday Bash performance also prompted some interesting theories and possible updates on the whole Ice Spice beef. For those unaware, Latto seemed to directly diss Spice by referencing her “Think U The S**t (Fart)” song in a tweet, following months of tension and back-and-forths. In addition, this HOT 107.9 performance’s tease of a potential new album title with Sugar Honey Iced Tea also adds to this theory and saga. After all, spell out the acronym behind that possible album title, and you’ve got a whole lot of shade over the Bronx femcee’s earlier 2024 single.

Latto Teases New Album’s Title

Meanwhile, Latto is also making headlines thanks to Azealia Banksviral thoughts on her. “She is really missing out on so much iconicness by not being ‘mulatto,’” Banks suggested on Twitter. “2nd off, for all that social backlash and for people to be dumb enough not to realize her name is still Mulatto but abbreviated should prove that they stupid internet anger addicts. Who are not as socially insightful as they think they are and made all that ruckus just to get hoodwinked. PLUS IS HER CALLING HERSELF MULATTO AT ALL EVEN SLIGHTLY AS DENIGRATING And DETRIMENTAL AS BLACK ARTISTS CALLING THEMSELVES AND THEIR PEERS N*****S ALL DAY?????????????????”

Regardless of what wild takes there are concerning Latto online, she continues to impress, apply pressure, and build a lot of support and anticipation for her next big move. Hopefully it comes sooner rather than later. It’s been a long journey up to this point and we haven’t gotten a full-length release in a while. So we’ll see what guests pop up, what the final title will be, and what she will lyrically and commercially stun with.

Your Old Droog’s Latest Album Is A “Movie” & It’s One Fans Will Want To Rewatch

Sometimes, not everyone can make their first, second, or even third album their most complete. To be honest, it is quite rare for anyone to do it, even the certified legends. That seems to be the case for Ukranian American spitter Your Old Droog, in his opinion anyway. The Brooklynite has been one of the more prolific voices in the East Coast underground and he prefers it that way. “I don’t really have interest in fame or the idea of celebrity, according to a feature from Variety. All of that hard work has seemingly culminated into Your Old Droog’s newest album, Movie.

“On the outside and on the inside, I feel like I mastered certain things, like certain recording techniques, writing techniques. I feel like I mastered ad libs in late 2022… in terms of how I record them, my process of selecting them and editing”, Droog mentioned. “I had a conversation before I worked on this album with El-P, where he was like, ‘Be okay with people missing you for a while. Just put everything into your 12 best songs.’ So, I internalized that before I was making the record, and just said, let me not do so much — let me do exactly what’s needed. I feel like I did”. We certainly feel that way, as Droog talks about all sorts of life experiences. This tape truly describes his life, aka his Movie.
