YoungBoy Regrets Violence In His Music, Wonders How Fans Will Accept Him

We’re entering a new era of YoungBoy Never Broke Again as the chart-topping rapper is ready to reveal another side of himself. Undoubtedly, he has gone through a transition for some time—much of which has been brought on by fame and legal troubles. His time under house arrest in Utah has been an eye-opening experience for the Baton Rouge star. He sat down with Billboard at his residence and shared insight into his career, including his compulsion about releasing music.

He told the outlet he has over 1,000 songs in the vault, which is believable if you consider just how much music he shares. “It’s a disease,” said YoungBoy about releasing music. “Literally, I cannot help myself. I tell myself sometimes, ‘I’m not going to drop until months from now,’ but it’s addictive.”

YoungBoy added that he wished he had been aware of “how unhealthy this was for me” when he was younger. “Whatever type of energy I had inside me, I would’ve pushed it toward something else,” he also said. “The music is therapy, but I can’t stop it when I want. And the lifestyle is just a big distraction from your real purpose.”

Additionally, It seems that YoungBoy will be—or already has begun to—make a shift in his music. He’s straying away from violent content and revealed that he felt as if he was being used by the industry. “I’m at a point now in my life where I just know hurting people is not the way, and I feel very manipulated, even at this moment,” he shared. “I was set on being the greatest at what I did and what I spoke about. Man, I was flooded with millions of dollars from the time I was 16 all the way to this point, and I woke up one morning like, ‘Damn. They got me. They made me do their dirty work.’ Man, look at the sh*t I put in these people’s ears.”

“I think about how many lives I actually am responsible for when it comes to my music,” YoungBoy further said. “How many girls I got feeling like if you don’t go about a situation that your boyfriend’s bringing on you in his way, you’re wrong? How many people have put this sh*t in their ears and actually went and hurt someone? Or how many kids felt like they needed to tote a gun and walked out the house and toted it the wrong way? Now he’s fixing to sit there and do years of his life that he can’t get back.”

Further, these days, YoungBoy is facing criticism for his painted nails of goth makeup. It’s something that both he and wife Jazlyn Mychelle enjoy doing in their solitude, but the social media world has been unforgiving. “I’m very curious to see how the world goes about me now,” said the rapper. “They listened because of who I supposedly was or showed I was and what I rapped about. Now it’s nail polish and face paint, and the music is not the same.”

“What if they don’t like me now?” YoungBoy also questioned. “You can’t be on top forever, you know? Because I’m not changing. I will not be provoked, I will not be broken, and I’m not going back to who I used to be. Accept it or not — I ain’t going back. I’m only going to get more groovy from here..”

NBA YoungBoy Associate Lil Pap Gets 5 Years In Prison For Gee Money Murder

Several reports have confirmed that NBA Young Boy associate NBA Lil Pap, aka OTS Lil Pap aka Deandre Fields has accepted a plea deal from prosecutors in the Gee Money murder and was handed down a five year prison sentence for an accessory after the fact to murder charge.

The light sentence is due to fact that that the charge accepted in the plea agreement is a non-violent offense. Fields is also serving a three-year sentence for a federal weapons charge he received while awaiting trial.

According to The Advocate, Fields said at his sentencing, “I’m going to agree to the deal, but I want to say for the record that I’m 100% innocent.” Judge Michael McDonald replied, “Well, if you’re not guilty, you’re not guilty.” Fields replied, “It’s in my best interest to accept the plea.”

NBA Lil Pap, 26, is accused of shooting Gee Money aka Garrett Burton, outside of Burton’s music studio in Baton Rouge in September 2017. Fields was arrested in 2019 for the murder of Burton, and his arrest warrant detailed what led to the beef between Burton and NBA YoungBoy.

NBA Lil Pap Takes Plea To Lesser Charge In Murder Case: Report

NBA YoungBoy may have dashed his legal troubles, but his affiliate, Lil Pap, reportedly has a few of his own. Two years ago, Deandre Fields, known as NBA Lil Pap, was indicted on second-degree murder charges. It was alleged that he was involved in a war between two rival Baton Rouge Rap crews. This beef escalated, purportedly resulting in the murder of 22-year-old Garrett Burton, also known as Gee Money.

It was alleged that Pap was responsible for pulling the trigger in Burton’s death. The Advocate reports the incident occurred outside of a recording studio in 2017.

The report stated Burton, who led the Top Boy Gorilla crew, and YoungBoy were once friends. However, when YoungBoy decided to go his own way with NBA, their relationship was said to have taken a turn.

It is also alleged that Burton’s death was a result of this Rap rivalry, as are other shooting connected to the tension. Prosecutors reportedly stated there have been several shootings in Baton Rouge, which made it difficult to get a conviction for Pap’s case.

For instance, a key witness to Burton’s shooting was also indicted for murder in 2020.

“This (Jefferson’s) arrest created a serious issue to the successful trial of Deandre Fields as the state’s eyewitness has been indicted for a homicide himself,” East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore said in a statement. “There was no other direct information outside of some circumstantial evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Fields was responsible for this homicide.”

Pap was able to secure a plea deal with the prosecution. He took an accessory charge and was sentenced to five years in prison. Some believe he quite literally got away with murder considering he was facing a life sentence.

“Under the circumstances the state was not in any other position but to resolve this matter under these circumstances,” Moore said. “My office has discussed these issues with Mr. Burton’s family prior to accepting this plea.”

Additionally, Pap has long denied responsibility for Burton’s death.

Tony Yayo Suggests NBA Youngboy Squashed Fredo Bang Beef After Signing “$100 M Deal”

Tony Yayo believes Motown’s $100M with NBA Youngboy encouraged the Baton Rouge-born rapper to end his long-standing beef with Fredo Bang.

NBA Youngboy and Fredo Bang’s feud has been the center of online discourse since 2020. Around that time, Bang referred to Youngboy as his “son” in a celebratory manner, though YB didn’t take it lightly. Instead, the two went at it in the years that followed before finally putting their differences aside in late 2022. Some, including Tony Yayo, believe that YB’s deal with Motown played a role in this decision.

Tony Yayo shared his theory behind the reason they ended their feud during his latest segment on Vlad TV. The G-Unit rapper explained that YB’s recent deal with Motown likely played a role in trying to squash any street tension because of the cheque that came with it.

“How much money they gave NBA Youngboy?” Tony Yayo asked Vlad before estimating that the value of his Motown deal was $100M. “Listen, shout out to NBA Youngboy. You give me $100M, I’m gonna say ‘Stop the violence,’ too. Because now, he’s in a whole other tax bracket. So it’s like, congratulations to him because he’s one of the top dogs out here.”

Tony Yayo added, “Because now, the people are watching, wanting to take that money from you.”

NBA Youngboy and Fredo Bang formally squashed their beef during the “Unity in the Community” Christmas toy drive in Louisiana. The event went down on Dec. 24th with clothes, toys, blankets and more handed out to the community’s children.
