Moriah Mills has been a hot topic of conversation in the sports world as of late. Overall, there is a very good reason for this. It all started when Zion Williamson told the world that he would be having a child. Mills came out of the woodwork and claimed that Zion had cheated on her. Moreover, she says that Zion was paying for her to come and live in New Orleans. This subsequently led to a social media firestorm that involved a ton of wild antics. In fact, it led to her Twitter account getting shut down.
For the most part, Mills was simply being too wild on the platform. She even threatened to leak a sex tape with Williamson. Once you start threatening to leak these kinds of materials, it is a wrap. Although, she didn’t stop there as she showed off a face tattoo with Zion’s name on it. Moreover, she posted a positive pregnancy test. She decided not to comment on her pregnancy claims, which was pretty interesting. However, she came out and said that a lot of NBA players are currently interested in her. As it turns out, she has received quite a few DMs from people in the basketball industry. Moriah Mills gave no proof to back this up, although she continues to claim that this is the case. Additionally, she said that she still plans on leaking the sex tape and is not worried about a lawsuit.
For many, this has all gotten exceptionally out of hand. For Mills, this could not be going any better. She is now a household name, and people are giving her the attention she desires. Summertime is when NBA players are looking to get their bodies completely right for the start of the season in October. However, for Ben Simmons, it’s been multiple years of mental and physical health problems, which makes every injury update pivotal. The most recent news is “Simmons isn’t yet playing 5-on-5, not going to rush his return,” according to Stefan Bondy on Twitter. Adding onto this report, Brooklyn Nets GM Sean Marks let Bondy and New York Post reporter Brian Lewis that”He’s not doing 3-on-3 or 5-on-5 yet. I was down there two weeks ago [with] him [and] training staff and saw the progress.”
Back in early June, Ben Simmons announced he was back on the court, working on individual drills. However, the progress is slow as he returns from a nerve impingement in his lower back. Of course, there are also the mental health issues surrounding the pressure he’d felt back when he was with the Philadelphia 76ers. Some reporters and pundits have questioned his commitment to basketball, but Sean Marks has a note on that as well: “Happy to report he’s in great physical shape [and] also mentally. He’s rearing and champing at the bit to get out there.”
Sean Marks could be blowing smoke into the air with this Ben Simmons non-update. While Simmons isn’t playing with any true competition, it’s important for the Nets to continue to showcase him as a valuable asset with plenty of potential. As HotNewHipHop reported last week, he could be available for trade as part of a package to land Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard. Even though he has not played since February 15th, his hefty contract and youth could be exactly what Portland is looking for in return for their franchise superstar, along with a ton of draft picks.
In the meantime, Ben Simmons will continue his snail-pace rehab. Back impingements are serious pain issues that can only be remedied with rest and other gentle treatments like applying heat to the area. Hopefully, he can get back to competitive gameplay for the start of the NBA season. He was acquired by the Nets two seasons ago, in early 2022, in exchange for James Harden to go to the 76ers. Brooklyn also received Seth Curry, Andre Drummond, and two future unprotected first-round picks. (The 76ers also got Paul Millsap in the trade.)
Joel Embiid and James Harden have made a solid duo over the past couple of seasons. However, they have not been able to get out of the second round. Throughout Embiid’s career, he has yet to make it into the Eastern Conference Finals. Overall, it is a bit of a disappointment, and fans will not let him forget about it. Although, with a little bit of help and even some luck, Embiid could definitely win an NBA title. The conditions for such a thing to happen just need to be 100 percent perfect.
Now, however, James Harden is asking for a trade out of Philadelphia. This could seriously mess up the team given their circumstances. If the return for Harden is no good, there will be no second superstar on the team. This would subsequently make the Sixers a lesser team. Moreover, it would put more of a burden on Joel Embiid. Having said that, it should come as absolutely no surprise that Embiid is very much interested in Harden staying with the team.

Recently, Joel Embiid got to speak with none other than Rachel Nichols about the James Harden situation. Overall, Embiid is asking Harden to stick around. Simply put, he wants the superstar to reconsider his life choices here. The reigning MVP firmly believes that if Harden were to stay, the team could compete for an NBA title. Although, there is really no evidence of that right now. Against the Boston Celtics, the Sixers were unable to get the job done and there is currently no indication that the Sixers are getting significantly better.
Unfortunately, it is going to continue to be a very difficult off-season for the Philadelphia 76ers. They have some big decisions to make that could ultimately also decide Joel Embiid’s future. Victor Wembanyama is easily the biggest draw of the NBA Summer League so far. Unfortunately, his first game with the Spurs was a huge disappointment. His shooting statistics were abysmal and a lot of fans rushed to call him a bust. However, over on Sunday night, he had an opportunity to redeem himself. In his second game, he played the Portland Trail Blazers in what promised to be a huge draw. Overall, Wembanyama was able to change the narrative around himself with a truly incredible performance.
The first-overall pick was able to pick up 27 points and another 12 rebounds throughout the night. Additionally, his shooting splits were a massive improvement from Friday night. He also had some big blocks, some three-pointers, and even some dunks that had fans singing his praises. All-in-all, he was looking a lot like the first-overall pick he was always destined to be.
In the clips above, you can see how he was doing a great job throughout the game. Unfortunately, his team was unable to grab the win. Subsequently, Victor Wembanyama made it seem like he will not actually be returning for the rest of Summer League. Instead, he will shut it down and get ready for training camp with the rest of his Spurs teammates. Devin Booker has had some fairly successful seasons in Phoenix over the last few years. Moreover, with Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal on his team, the Suns are expected to contend for a title. Overall, Booker has a bit of a bad reputation around the league. For some reason, a lot of fans on NBA Twitter just don’t like him. Although he is a good player, there is this narrative that he is simply too overrated to be taken so seriously.
Now, however, there are some people on NBA Twitter who have changed their tone on Booker. This is all because of the stance he has taken on Jonah Hill. Over the weekend, Hill was accused of emotional abuse and manipulation by his ex-girlfriend. In some messages, Hill essentially told a surfer that she couldn’t surf anymore if she wanted to be with him. This sparked a conversation about boundaries that the incel community couldn’t help keep their hands off of. As it turns out, Booker decided to take Hill’s side on this, as he posted the actor on his Instagram story.
While some of the weirdos on NBA Twitter were quick to praise Booker for a “rare W,” others were quick to eat him alive. After all, it was a bit weird for Booker to praise Hill considering the discourse. Just staying quiet would have played things way safer. Regardless, Booker made his bed, and some made sure that he laid in it. “Why is devin booker dying on this jonah hill,” one user joked. “Surprisingly this makes book less hated on NBA Twitter because this app full of weirdos lol but this such an L man smh I’m disappointed,” said another.

Damian Lillard’s agent, Aaron Goodwin, has reportedly advised teams other than the Miami Heat against trading for Lillard. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the latest NBA news notes that Goodwin has warned these teams that they would be acquiring “an unhappy player.” This move is seen as a strategy to ensure that Lillard ends up at his preferred destination. This specifically being in place for when the Portland Trail Blazers decide to trade the seven-time All-Star.

Goodwin later confirmed his client’s desires when speaking to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson. He stated, “I do what I should for my client. Some teams I did call. Other teams have called me. It’s a respectful relationship with most teams. Truthfully, he wants to play in Miami. Period.” This statement makes it clear that Lillard’s preference is to play for the Miami Heat.

Goodwin also mentioned that he had advised Blazers general manager Joe Cronin to have a “meaningful negotiation” with the Heat. This is seen as a move to facilitate Lillard’s move to his preferred team. However, Wojnarowski noted that this is a “time-honored agent maneuver” designed to suppress the trade market for a player to get them to a predetermined destination. He also mentioned that general managers he spoke with said it “won’t impact how they’ll proceed” as they explore talks with the Blazers for Lillard.

Following Portland general manager Joe Cronin’s confirmation on July 1 that Lillard has requested a trade, Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported that Lillard is “specifically” seeking to play for the Heat. However, if things don’t work out with Miami, the Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Utah Jazz could be of interest to Lillard, according to The Athletic’s Sam Amick.

The biggest obstacle that appears to be facing the Heat is a lack of appealing trade assets for the Blazers. Wojnarowski mentioned earlier this week on SportsCenter that Portland is “not impressed” with Miami’s offer. Particularly, because the Blazers aren’t interested in Tyler Herro as they already have Anfernee Simons, Shaedon Sharpe, and Scoot Henderson as backcourt options.
The Blazers’ Perspective
From the Blazers’ perspective, they are “going to do what’s best for the team.” The team is looking to build a championship-caliber roster. Trading a franchise icon like Lillard makes it easy to understand why the Trail Blazers would want to maximize their return. However, they made things more difficult for themselves by extending his contract last summer.
Lillard’s Contract and Value
Lillard is signed for the next three years. The player also has a $63.2 million player option for the 2026-27 season when he will be 36. Teams could be more reluctant to give up significant future assets for a player at this stage of Lillard’s career and with that contract. Despite this, Lillard remains an incredibly valuable player. The main reason is that he is coming off a season in which he averaged a career-high 32.2 points per game in 58 starts.
In conclusion, the Damian Lillard trade saga is a complex one, with multiple parties involved and various interests at stake. It remains to be seen how this situation will unfold and where Lillard will eventually end up.
Isaiah Thomas offered his two cents on the Ja Morant situation, with the young NBA star dealing with flashing guns on his Instagram Live multiple times. Thomas threw this out on his Twitter: “Watch what type of season Ja has next year with D Rose connected to his hip all year long.” He’s referring to Derrick Rose, a veteran NBA player who was the youngest season MVP winner of all time back in 2011. “Once he gets off suspension, he will have his best season yet,” Thomas continues.
Ja Morant is serving a 25-game suspension, handed down by Adam Silver, for violation of the league’s policy around guns and gun violence. He plays for the NBA franchise Memphis Grizzlies, which suspended Ja for a few games last year for his first incident. He allegedly went to therapy during that suspension and claimed to be feeling better. However, a second Instagram Live in which he flashed a piece made people not so sure. (He has since proved that the second incident was a fake gun.)
Isaiah Thomas finishes his Ja comments with, “That D rose presence going to have him on some MVP sh*t… Watch!” To which Ja Morant replied: “[You] too loud, OG. [They] gon feel me fasho.” He seems to agree with Isaiah that he is putting the off-the-court issues behind him and getting focused on basketball. The Memphis Grizzles signed Derrick Rose, announcing the signing on July 3rd. Deal terms were not disclosed to the public, per team policy. Ideally, Rose will help guide the young guard through a more successful era of his career.
Ja Morant is one of the most talented players in today’s NBA. Drafted number two overall in 2019, the point guard was the Rookie of the Year in 2020. That year’s rookie class might go down as one of the most talented in quite some time. Zion Williamson went number one overall, but injuries have derailed his career so far. Other than that, RJ Barrett, De’Andre Hunter, and Darius Garland round out the top five. They all play pivotal roles on playoff-caliber teams.
Draymond Green is easily one of the best defenders in the entire NBA. Overall, he is someone who has always gotten credit for the way he plays. Sure, he may not be the most offensive-minded guy out there, but that is not his role. Instead, he is out there contesting shots, grabbing rebounds, and making life hell for other people. Green is well aware of his talents, and he isn’t afraid to use them. Consequently, he is a feared guy around the league, even if some people clown him from time to time.
Recently, Draymond Green went on Paul George’s podcast where they discussed a whole range of topics. At one point, the two touched on Victor Wembanyama, who just went first overall to the San Antonio Spurs. Overall, Wembanyama is set to be a massive star. However, Green noted that despite the kid’s frame, there are ways that you can shut him down. At the end of the day, it all comes back to putting pressure on your man.
“You can’t let him get comfortable. You let him get comfortable you lose, because you can’t block his shot,” Draymond Green said. “He may not even see your contest. So with a guy like that you gotta do your work early. I‘m crowding him from the time he starts running down the court. When they get the rebound and they start coming I’m crowding because I can’t let him get to a space where he’s comfortable. If you do that against talents like that…aint nothing you can do to stop that. So for me I’m all the way pressed up into him.”

He has not been playing good basketball, and fans are fed up. Moreover, he has been hit with a ton of injuries that have not helped matters very much. According to Greg Sylvander, the Nets are thinking of doing a three-team trade with the Portland Trail Blazers and the Miami Heat. Damian Lillard wants to go to the Heat and the only way he can really get there is if a third team gets into the mix. Theoretically, this is a trade that would see Simmons go on over to Portland, where he would be surrounded by young talent. Of course, this is simply a rumor for right now, and there is no telling what will happen amid the Lillard sweepstakes.
The Trail Blazers are looking to play hard ball with every single team they can. After all, why give up your franchise player for nothing?
