Queen Latifah Captivates Fans With Her Grand National Anthem Performance

The Dallas Cowboys absolutely decimated the New York Giants at Metlife Stadium last night on September 10. To be specific the final score was 40-0 as the Cowboys’ defense made Daniel Jones and the offense look totally abysmal all night long. However, the despondent Giants’ fans at least got to witness a spectacle before the massacre began. On one of the biggest stages, Queen Latifah put on a dazzling performance of the national anthem.

A true great in the hip-hop and R&B space, Latifah got some help from the nation’s toughest individuals. The armed forces added to the amazing show with their gorgeous and in-sync background vocals. Pairing that with Latifah’s deep and soulful voice was a match made in heaven. It was the perfect way to reintroduce Sunday Night Football back to America. During the broadcast, they showed some of the players and coaches, including the Giants’ star running back Saquon Barkley. It seemed like he was in the process of tearing up during Latifah’s rendition and we do not blame him.

“Having been put in a literal cage, too small for her frame, stripped of her essential American freedoms, and deprived of even her most basic rights during a sham trial and unjust sentencing, Brittney, supported by many other players, will make a statement this WNBA season by standing tall for those uniquely American freedoms.”

Jordin Sparks Gets Clowned By Social Media For National Anthem Performance

Twitter’s just never going to be a very nice place, is it? Jordin Sparks recently got clowned on social media for her performance of the national anthem at the Big 12 Championship game. Moreover, many people compared it to Fergie’s infamous national anthem performance during an NBA All-Star Game. However, many also said that Sparks’ rendition wasn’t that bad, as Fergie’s spread like legitimate wildfire online. Still, whether you have an opinion on that, it’s always a bit sad to see so much hate thrown on social media sites for performances like these.

Still, people are entitled to their take, and it probably says something significant if a lot of people did not like your performance. With all that said, it’s not like Sparks is constantly in the public limelight, so hopefully she’s not getting an absurd amount of haters down her throat. In fact, her most recent big story before this performance was that Chris Brown’s abuse of Rihanna caused their collab “No Air” to get snubbed at the Grammys. Given how Brown’s career’s progressed since then, maybe it was best for Sparks to get a little distance.

“Honestly, I think that shouldn’t even be a conversation anymore,” she remarked, defending his history of violence. “It’s about his talent, and they just shouldn’t have canceled the performance. That’s how I feel about it. People deserve to be able to grow and learn. Be able to live their life without things hanging over them. Everybody deserves that.” While her comments obviously didn’t land with people in the most positive way, she does make a point about growth. It’s all about how people move forward from those things, or how they stick by old ways.

Regardless of all that, people still laughed off her rendition of the national anthem. While the singer keeps dropping music on a relatively low-key level, perhaps people remember this instance a little more. Hopefully, the 33-year-old’s fans remind the haters of some of her classics. Watch Mickey Guyton Absolutely Belt The National Anthem At Super Bowl LVI

For those of us country fans who are passionate about expanding diversity within the genre — word to Jason Isbell — the recent success of Mickey Guyton has been a boon. This rising country star isn’t afraid to speak on the subjects that are closest to her heart, releasing the song “Black Like Me” last year, following up on themes addressed in the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020. But her debut full-length, Remember Her Name was also an incredible addition to country music last year, and it earned Guyton three Grammy nominations in this year’s ceremony.

So for anyone who has been paying attention, the NFL’s decision to tap Guyton for the National Anthem at this year’s Super Bowl made perfect sense. And she was in fine form for her moment in the spotlight today, absolutely belting out the anthem to kick off one of the most important sporting events of the year. Another great addition to her setlist would’ve been Mickey’s own early hit, “Rosé,” but hey, we can’t have everything. Mickey Guyton Will Sing The National Anthem At Super Bowl LVI

Even if you don’t follow country music super closely, odds are you’ve already heard of Mickey Guyton. The rising country star is part of a movement within the genre that is demanding the whitewashing in country must stop — and that artists like Morgan Wallen, who was caught on tape saying the “N word” and still saw a surge in sales and popularity — not be the only ones representing their genre.

Guyton’s debut album, Remember Her Name, was released in September last year, and she’s already preceded that with a couple of EPs and impactful singles that made waves, like “Black Like Me,” one of her earliest breakout hits “Better Than You Left Me,” and my personal favorite, “Rosé.” With the release of “Black Like Me,” Guyton became the first Black woman to ever be nominated by the Grammys for the Best Country Solo Performance category, and has been making waves in so many ways since.

One honor that Guyton is kicking off 2022 with is the opportunity to sing the national anthem at this year’s Super Bowl. The Bengals will be facing off against the Rams, and Guyton will be there to help open up the biggest game of the year. “Look at God. Fans Couldn’t Help Roasting Jacquees’ Dramatic Rendition Of The National Anthem At A Recent Lakers Game

As Vince Staples once said (to the tune of 135,00 retweets and 258,000 likes), “The national anthem don’t even slap.”

Over the years, various efforts to rectify this state of affairs have met with mixed results — Marvin Gaye’s rendition at the 1983 NBA All-Star game came close, Fergie’s effort at the 2018 All-Star, not so much — but the fact remains that the “Star-Spangled Banner” is kind of a dud, extolling virtues that the nation still hasn’t come within waving distance of since its writing.

That hasn’t stopped folks from trying, though; the latest was Atlanta R&B singer Jacquees, whose insistence that he’s the “king of R&B” over the past few years (he even named his 2019 album King Of R&B) has already made him subject to pushback and ridicule. Ahead of the recent NBA game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors, Jacquees opted for a laid-back rendition marked by his signature melisma and vibrato — i.e., “vocal runs” and that warbling quality singers’ voices sometimes have.

A tweet capturing the video of him singing the national anthem has gone viral on Twitter as folks debate his performance choices comparing it to the aforementioned Fergie debacle as well as Carl Lewis’ 1993 miss at another NBA game. Basically, the consensus is that Jacquees did way too much, but somehow also still not nearly enough to save that dreadful song from its built-in limitations. Jacquees himself was less than amused at the response, posting an apparent response of his own:

Seriously, would it kill anyone for us to update the national anthem? Like five major musical genres have been invented since America’s inception, and literally, any of them would save countless future generations from suffering this sort of embarrassment.
