Lil Nas X Is ‘Happy’ For The Country Music Success Of Beyoncé And Shaboozey, But Feels Left Out

Country music is having a moment, and unsurprisingly, there are some new faces at the forefront of its breakthrough, — faces like Beyoncé’s, Shaboozey’s, and Tanner Adell’s. However, there’s one pioneer in the genre who doesn’t quite feel like he got the same love as they’re receiving now.

In a May 19 interview with BBC, Lil Nas X said that he was “happy” for the country music successes of artists like Beyoncé and Shaboozey, but that he feels a little left out. “I wish this would have happened for me,” he said. “I wasn’t even able to experience this.”

Nas appears to be referring to the reception of his breakout hit “Old Town Road,” which despite breaking records on the Billboard Hot 100 as the longest-running No. 1 ever, was never truly embraced by the country music establishment. The song was actually pulled from the country music chart initially for not sounding “country” enough, and received a chilly reception from country radio programmers. It did go on to win a CMA Award, but not without controversy.

And while Beyoncé may have had a rough road onto those country trails, it took far less fussing and fighting for her single “Texas Hold ‘Em” to enter country airplay after her label reviewed its metadata, and her album Cowboy Carter was widely well-received, landing at No. 1 in its first week despite the big change in sound for Beyoncé.

Megan Thee Stallion Shares First Look At Her New Tequila Brand

Megan Thee Stallion is juggling quite a bit right now. The rapper is currently on a much-talked-about new tour. Fans online were locked in fierce debate over whether or not she was the caliber of artist who could go on a stadium tour. She seemingly answered that question when she sold out more than a dozen stadiums before the tour even began. But that hasn’t stopped some of her haters, many inspired by her beef with Nicki Minaj earlier this year, from trying to come after her new shows.

She’s also about to launch a brand new product. Rapper’s collaborating on their own alcohol brands has a long history in the genre and Megan is about to join some of her predecessors. The “HISS” rapper took to Instagram to reveal to fans that she has a tequila brand dropping soon. Fans at her recent show in Chicago got the chance to try the brand early. The post was accompanied by a video of the rapper with the bottle, giving fans their first taste of what it looks like. Check out the preview of her upcoming beverage below.

Megan Thee Stallion Teases Her New Tequila

Megan Thee Stallion has already shared three new singles from her upcoming snake-themed new album. It began last year with the hard-hitting “COBRA” which even got a special rock version with metal band Spiritbox. Earlier this year, she dropped the even more evocative “HISS,” which got her embroiled in one of the first big rap beefs of the year. One particularly hilarious lyric referencing Megan’s Law was a veiled shot at Nicki Minaj. In particular, she took aim at Minaj’s husband and his criminal history. That led to Nicki to respond with a diss track called “Big Foot” which was bashed by critics and fans alike.

What do you think of Megan Thee Stallion sharing a preview of her upcoming new tequila? Do you think you’ll try the “WAP” rapper’s sponsored beverage whenever its made publicly available? Let us know in the comment section below.

When Will The Grammys Be Held In 2025?

The 2024 Grammys were only three months ago, but already, the Recording Academy is looking forward to the year ahead. The Academy posted a list of important dates for the 2025 Grammys, including the cutoff date for consideration (August 30), when the nominations will be announced (November 8), and when the voting for those nominations will conclude (January 3, 2025). The only question that leaves is: when will the 67th Annual Grammy Awards be held?

Fortunately, that date was part of the larger announcement. The 2025 Grammy Awards are scheduled for February 2, 2025, and will be broadcast live from Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena via CBS (or Paramount Plus).

The past year’s awards included some surprises, with Uproxx’s Derrick Rossignol listing the biggest winners and losers including Taylor Swift and boygenius winning several awards, Swift announcing her album The Tortured Poets Department, and Miley Cyrus’ performance among the winners. The eventful ceremony also saw Killer Mike led out in handcuffs after sweeping every category for which he was nominated earlier in the evening.

Next year’s awards already have stiff competition just for nominations, with the aforementioned Tortured Poets and Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter dropping earlier this year. The latter is also sure to be the center point of some categorical controversy come November, and that’s without even knowing what else is dropping before the cutoff.

Lil Nas X Has Surprising Take On Beyonce & Shaboozey’s Country Music Success

Lil Nas X’s mainstream reign began with the rap-country crossover hit “Old Town Road,” one that feels very distinct from his career trajectory today. While this remains the longest-running No. 1 single in Billboard Hot 100 history with 19 weeks, the divisiveness that this track caused in the country and rap space was often hostile. The Georgia native faced a lot of backlash for it, a curious contrast to how other Black artists’ forays into country, namely Beyoncé’s and Shaboozey’s, got praise five years later. Speaking to BBC, he reflected on how he feels about their success when compared to his own experience with genre-blending.

“I wish this would have happened for me,” Lil Nas X told the outlet on Sunday (May 19), clarifying that he’s “happy” for Beyonce and Shaboozey regardless of his thoughts on the matter. “I wasn’t even able to experience this.” Not only that, but he also told BBC that he’s been “trying out some country [sounds] here and there over the last couple of years.” “I want to feel connected to it and not force it,” the MONTERO artist added.

Lil Nas X Performing At Coachella 2024

Of course, Lil Nas X went on to develop his career in many other genres, whether it’s indie or commercial stylings of pop, rock, R&B, hip-hop, and even folk. For example, his recent collaboration with Camila Cabello, “HE KNOWS,” caught pretty positive reception leading up to her upcoming pop album, so we’ll see what happens with that. Still, it’s very natural to see how “Old Town Road” simply arrived at a more difficult time for genre crossovers. Regardless of its reception and prompted debates on impact, it partially paved the way for Beyonce and Shaboozey to fully challenge the notion that Black artists should be boxed into certain musical styles.

Meanwhile, Queen Bey might be prepping a tour soon, which obviously has fans very excited. Hopefully she and Lil Nas X, along with Shaboozey, can foment more collaboration between a myriad of Black artists, especially those in country that are experiencing a lot of due acclaim right now. Would this result in an even bigger hit in the same vein as “Old Town Road,” “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM,” or “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”? Only time will tell.

Sexyy Red Teases That She Will Make Her WWE Debut Soon “I Might RKO Somebody”

In March, a video of Sexyy Red dancing to the famous WWE theme music featuring WWE great Shawn Michaels went viral. Tuesday evenings are when WWE’s NXT brand airs a weekly program, which is managed by Shawn Michaels. Sexyy Red hinted that she will be visiting the TV show soon. Red has expressed her desire to RKO someone on an upcoming WWE NXT show.

Subsequently, rumors circulated that WWE and Sexyy Red were planning to work together, implying possible future partnerships. Given this, Sexyy Red expressed her intention to RKO someone on Twitter, saying she was excited to attend NXT next week. Sexyy Red Teases NXT Appearance

Red tweeted on Monday, May 20, saying, “I can’t wait to go to NXT next week y’all, I might RKO somebody [loudly crying face emojis] @WWE #nxt.” The RKO is the name of the wrestling finisher created by WWE legend Randy Orton. Sexyy Red has previously stated that she would like to appear in WWE. The native of St. Louis responded to a video in October 2023 that featured an altered combination of her song “SkeeYee” and the entrance of former WWE tag team champion Jey Uso. Sexyy said in response to the clip, “I wanna see this happen [for real] [loudly crying face emojis]. @WWE when [y’all] gonna invite me?”

Hip-hop and wrestling have been collaborating for years, especially lately. A number of Hip-Hop stars competed in April’s WWE WrestleMania XL event. The start of the show was narrated by Philly native Meek Mill. Snoop Dogg commented on matches during the mega event. Furthermore, Lil Wayne led Jey Uso into the ring for his matchup with Jimmy Uso, his twin brother. Overall, Sexyy Red and the WWE seem like a match made in heaven. Safaree Makes Fun Of His Own Moves In Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass” Video

2011 was a very different time, and whenever artists look back on their previous timing -– however small or innocuous -– it often makes for an interesting retrospective. But sometimes, it’s as simple as just some jokes about dance trends at the time, as Safaree recently realized concerning his appearance in his former flame Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass” music video. Via Twitter, he reflected on his moves in the visual, poking fun at his own 20/20 hindsight corniness and that of the culture at the time. “Yo wat the hell was I doing in that super bass video [crying-laughing emojis]. yo I am really a crazy a&& ni%%%a I don’t give a sh*% bout nothing [crying-laughing emojis].”

Furthermore, Safaree often reflects on his relationship with Nicki Minaj with a lot of amicable and appreciative jesting, such as recalling her disses towards his fashion choices when thinking about what to wear for her Pink Friday 2 world tour. “I’m definitely going to a Gag City concert in full disguise,” he tweeted earlier this year. “Y’all will not even notice me and I will enjoy the show!! Can’t wait!! Ima document it too and drop a video after [crying-laughing emojis]. Imma wear a jean vest too! Can’t wait!!”

However, not all of his reflections on the Nicki Minaj bond are as positive or playful, such as his reflections on when she kissed Nas in the “Right By My Side” music video. “You wanna know what’s so crazy?” he told the Keep It A Stack podcast. “I didn’t know it happened until the video came out. N***a, I was hurt, when that s**t happened, I was hurt. I was there the whole day so I was like, ‘Damn. Did that happen when I left to go?’ I must’ve left for like an hour, two hours and I think that’s when that scene happened, yo.”

Meanwhile, folks still like to reminisce on their working relationship, such as an old video of Nicki Minaj and Safaree dropping bars in their rap group. Maybe the two will continue to acknowledge each other and reflect on their fling in the future. Unless things actually get contentious, we doubt they have a lot of animosity towards each other at this point. If nothing else, we wonder what the Trinidadian MC would say about the “Super Bass” video today.

Rich The Kid Takes Plea Deal In Miami Bomb Threat Case

Rich The Kid has accepted a plea deal in the case regarding a bomb threat in Miami from last year. At the time, authorities arrested him for refusing to follow police orders and going beyond a perimeter they had set up around a hotel for the investigation. He’s now pleaded no contest to resisting arrest and trespassing, which will allow him to avoid jail time. He will, however, have to pay a $1,000 fine.

His legal team said, as caught by HipHopDX: “We believed that if we proceeded to go to trial we would have been successful. The offers leading up to the trial included a period of supervision. That being said, our client is pleased with the outcome of time served and a fine to resolve the matter and looks forward to continued success.”

Rich reportedly was so intent on entering the hotel because he wanted to speak with a promoter who owed him money. The debt apparently stemmed from an appearance at Hyde Beach nightclub alongside NLE Choppa and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie.

Rich appeared unfazed on social media after the initial arrest. At the time, he shared several clips from Scarface. In one scene, Tony Montana remarks: “You want to waste my time? Okay. I call my lawyer. He’s the best lawyer in Miami. He’s such a good lawyer that by tomorrow morning, you’re gonna be working in Alaska… so dress warm.” Following the incident, Rich teamed up with Kanye West, Ty Dolla Sign, and Playboi Carti to appear on Vultures for the track, “Carnival.” The song peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, making for Rich’s first time reaching the spot. Diddy’s Music To Be Removed From All Future Peloton Classes

Everyone is reacting to the newest developments in the ongoing drama that has plagued Diddy since last year. It was months ago back in 2023 when the damn first broke. That started with a lawsuit filed against the rap mogul by Cassie last year. That turned out to be the first in an ongoing series of accusations being made by various people claiming decades of bad behavior. It peaked back in March when two of his properties were raided by the federal government as part of an investigation into allegations of sex trafficking.

But over the weekend the Cassie case was brought back into the light. That sparked from the release of a leaked video of hotel security camera footage showing the assault that was alleged in the lawsuit. It led to a brand new wave of backlash from the rap world. Diddy attempted to apologize for his actions in the video but his apology was also roundly rejected by many, People like Aubrey O’Day and Charlamagne The God picked apart why they think he was being disingenuous. Now the rap mogul’s business ties are further being affected by the developments. Check out a new post from exercise equipment brand Peloton below.

Peloton Cutting Ties With Diddy

Earlier this week, a Facebook campaign sought to have Diddy’s material removed from Peloton. It’s not clear if the company’s moves spawned from the campaign itself or were already in motion. But it took the opportunity to share some news with users. “We take this issue very seriously and can confirm Peloton has paused the use of Sean Combs’ music, as well as removed the Bad Boy Entertainment Artist Series, on our platform” a statement made but the company reads.

What do you think of Peloton removing Diddy’s music from all of their newly produced exercise classes? Do you think the rap mogul will ultimately faced any consequences for the behavior he’s been accused of? Let us know in the comment section below.

Snoop Dogg Is Auctioning Off A Truly Wild Variety Of Memorabilia, From TV Scripts To Death Row Chains

Snoop Dogg is auctioning photos, PlayStations, autographed riders, autographed jackets and jerseys, and more. According to Variety, the Long Beach native has teamed up with memorabilia-authentication and auction company The Realest to host the auction, from today until June 2.

Producer and radio host Scott “DJ Skee” Keeney, the founder of The Realest, told Variety, “The items he is putting up are iconic. Everything from lyrics, awards — like ‘Pimp of the Year’! — unreleased tapes, outfits, sample toys, photos, scripts, concert riders, even a Snoop-authenticated smoked blunt in a crazy display case and ashtray.”

Other notable items being offered include autographed scripts from The Boondocks TV show, master recording tapes (sans the publishing rights they may represent), and even a Death Row Records chain in a custom box autographed by Snoop. As the Doggfather put it in a statement, “This is sh*t that we have, but we didn’t know it was worth something.”

As Variety notes, auctions involving hip-hop memorabilia are often quite profitable — just last year, a mic thrown by Cardi B was auctioned for charity, while the year before that, a rap book of Drake’s went up for sale — but rappers themselves are rarely the beneficiaries of their stuff being sold. Speaking of Drake, he bought one of Tupac’s rings last year, and his purchase of Pharrell’s chain was a point of contention in his battle with Kendrick Lamar.

DJ Skee sees his platform as a potential revenue stream for artists, saying, “Items like setlists, stage equipment, outfits, signage, and more are things that fans desire but can’t find. It helps to build a new revenue stream for artists.”
