Nas Calls Ghostface Killah His Favorite Rapper While Performing Alongside Him

Over the weekend, numerous major hip-hop events took place. While Hot 97’s annual Summer Jam seemed plagued with controversies, The Root Picnic appears to have mostly gone off without a hitch. Saturday night Nas served as the festival headliner and he didn’t disappoint with his set. As you’d expect, he had a few guests out during the show and one of the is particularly noteworthy to the “NY State Of Mind” rapper.

Nas was joined on stage by Wu-Tang Clan rapper and fellow New York legend Ghostface Killah. The pair performed “Verbal Intercourse” and Ghostface unpacked “Cherchez La Ghost,” “Ice Cream,” and “C.R.E.A.M.” During his performance, Nas hit him with some pretty high praise. “That’s my fucking favorite rapper right there,” he said to the crowd while embracing Ghostface. The trio later posed for pictures with Beanie Sigel after he was also brought out on stage as a guest. Check out a video of the pair coming out on stage as guests below.

Nas Claims Ghostface Killah Is His Favorite Rapper

Last year, Nas wrapped up an impressively prolific and acclaimed 4 year period of his career. He and Hit-Boy teamed up for six total albums split across two trilogies. The King’s Disease trilogy concluded in 2022 followed by the release of Magic 2 and Magic 3 last year. He’s continued to promote the records releasing multiple videos for deep cuts from both albums since they dropped. Nas was tapped by some as a potential recipient of the key to New York City if it was formally rescinded from Diddy. The rap mogul received the key last year but has been mired in controversy ever since. Calls for his key to be rescinded increased after video leaked of him allegedly assaulting Cassie in a hotel the pair were staying at together.

Jay-Z Dapped Up Real Madrid Star And Roc Nation Athlete Vinicius Jr. At The Champions League Final

The Champions League final took place this past Saturday, and a slew of stars were in London for the festivities. Jay-Z watched Real Madrid vs. Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League final, the biggest match in the European soccer calendar, on Saturday. With goals from Brazilian sensation Vinicius Jr. and seasoned defender Dani Carvajal, Madrid defeated the opposition 2-0 to win the Champions League for the record 15th time. The 23-year-old Brazilian is etching his name along with the greats and rubbing shoulders with one of the greatest rappers of all time, Jay-Z.

Prior to the game, Jay-Z was spotted dapping up Vini, who is signed under Jay-Z’s  Roc Nation Sports organization, and waving to the fans as he made his way to his seat along the touchline. The highlight of Hov’s evening, though, was when he took a photo with the Real Madrid striker following the final whistle, making sure to flaunt his freshly acquired winner’s medal to the camera. In the picture, a number of others were there, including Jay Brown and “OG Juan” Perez, two of Jigga’s longstanding business associates and pals.

Jay-Z Takes Selfie With Vinicius Jr. After His Big Champions League Win

Following Roc Nation Sports’ acquisition of Brazilian soccer agency TFM Agency in July 2023, Vinicius Jr. joined the organization. “In terms of football, Brazil is the center of it all,” Perez, president of Roc Nation Sports, said in a statement at the time. He continued, “I strongly identify with a culture that has such an incredible passion for sport and music. Our influence in this game is growing, and this move shows our intentions to the world.” Vinicius Jr. and Jay-Z earlier shared a photo on social media in May 2023, with the soccer player captioning it as “LEGEND.”

Roc Nation Sports boasts probably the best footballer next to Kylian Mbappéin the world, Vinicius Jr. The French superstar, Mbappe, will join Vini in Madrid next year, so there is a real possibility they will be back in the Champions League Final again. If they win again next year, hopefully, Jay-Z will be in attendance. Overall, it is pretty cool seeing Jay-Z involved in the wider world of soccer.

Charlamagne Tha God And Jess Hilarious Roast BIA’s Cardi B Diss Track

Over the weekend, BIA and Cardi B joined the already busy list of rappers who have started major beef in 2024. Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, J. Cole, Metro Boomin, Quavo, and Chris Brown have already had viral moments in the first half of the year alone. Though the pair have allegedly taken subtle shots at each other before, it really kicked off over the weekend when Cardi joined Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla on the “Wanna Be” remix. During her verse, she took a shot that couldn’t be mis-interpreted. Since then personalities in the rap media landscape like Charlamagne Tha God have been breaking down every development.

The next domino to fall came from BIA, who responded on Twitter. She shared a series of lyrics from Cardi’s husband Offset repurposed to comment on the situation. Cardi and Offset have had a turbulent few months together dating back to last December. That was shortly followed by the full on diss track “SUE MEEE?” The song accused Cardi of cheating on Offset, which was the opposite of what many suspected was the root cause of their relationship drama. Cardi took the title of the song seriously and did threaten, though probably jokingly, to sue BIA over the song. Gunna Excites Fans In Philadelphia With Boxing Workout In Front Of The Famous Rocky Statue

Gunna is is seemingly working out everywhere. Following his release from jail in 2022, Gunna said he shed up to “30-40 pounds” and is still maintaining his weight. He discussed his body in an interview and detailed how his habits developed. Gunna has been keeping to his fitness goals, and fans love it. The rapper’s body transformation has garnered attention on social media. Additionally, he was reportedly spotted working out at the Phoenix Suns’ facility alongside NBA star Bol Bol. Now Gunna has been seen taking in the sights of Philidelphia. The rapper did the most Philly thing you can do and did a boxing workout in front of the famous Rocky statue.

The Rocky statue and the steps leading up to it are a movie and pop cultural touchstone. In Rocky, Sylvester Stallone ran up the stairs as part of his training to face Apollo Creed. Furthermore, in the following movies, they made a statue of him that was at the top of the Philidelphia Museum of Fine Art. Now Gunna is following in Rocky’s footsteps literally and doing a Rocky-inspired workout at the iconic locale. Philly is known for its long and prestigious boxing pedigree. Overall, it is pretty incredible Gunna is living his best life.

Gunna Does Rocky Inspired Boxing Workout

Gunna stated he lost up to “30-40 pounds” after being released from prison in 2022 and that he is currently maintaining his weight. In a XXL-released open interview, he talked about his physique. “Less eating. Especially when I went to jail. I lost a lot of weight. Just like, cleansing. Detoxing. And when I got home, I started working out and just keeping it fit. And now, I’m on a year straight of all working out,” he said. Now, he thinks he is fit enough to work out with professional athletes like NBA and NFL players.

One of Wun, his new album, is doing good business, and fans love it. This is his second album upon his release from prison in 2022. Throughout the tracklist, he worked with Offset, Normani, Leon Bridges, and Roddy Ricch. Overall, it seems like Gunna’s World, and we are just living in it. J Dilla’s Brother Illa J Has A Dismissive Hot Take About Kanye West

Everyone seems to have a hot take about Kanye West these days, and they became so common for so many different reasons that the more mild and non-bigotry-centric ones are now the most notable. Moreover, the late and legendary J Dilla’s younger brother Illa J recently spoke about the Chicago artist during an interview with AnecDope (which you can find by clicking here). Specifically, he remarked on what the Detroit beatmaker would be cooking up now, which Illa thinks would be “some crazy trap beats” given his desire to listen to all kinds of rap music despite his specialties. “Even when I was younger, he would ask me what I was listening to,” he said of his brother.

Then, Illa J made a bold claim that Kanye West would not be as big as he is today if J Dilla were still alive. “That’s my opinion,” he prefaced the reasoning behind this conclusion. “I don’t think Kanye is as big as he is if my brother stayed alive. I’m sorry, Kanye needs seven producers. If you look at the credits, there’s, like, 20 producers on one track. Because it’s a thing to make beats, and then it’s a thing to produce, you know what I mean? Like, yeah, you’re making some crazy stuff. But, like, I mean, [if] we’re talking producers, man, like, Quincy Jones is still the GOAT. That’s a real music producer, you know what I mean? Most people are beatmakers, if we’re being real.”

Of course, Kanye West himself will be one of the first to tell you that J Dilla is one of the all-time greats, if not the greatest producer of all time. During a 2013 appearance on the Stones Throw Records documentary, Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton, Ye spoke on the need to honor Dilla as artists. “We gotta think, ‘If Dilla was alive, would he like this?’” he remarked. “I have to work on behalf of Dilla. The best respect that we can pay to great artists that have inspired us is to never sell out.”

Meanwhile, Illa J was previously very outspoken about how he feels that some folks are trying to take advantage of J Dilla’s legacy for their own gain. Last year, he framed this as more of a conversation around how people use Dilla’s impact to further their own goals or the relationship that they seek with Illa. It doesn’t seem like this applies to Kanye West, but it’s also easy to believe that both artists would’ve still made amazing art if they were both still around. Sadly, we’ll never know for sure, but we do know that their catalogs and artistry are worth much more than their individual careers.

Yung Miami Opens Up On Relationship With JT, Explains Why They’re Focusing On Solo Music

Yung Miami has finally spoken at length about focusing on solo music following a rumored split from her City Girls partner, JT. Speaking with Complex on Monday, Miami explained that the two rappers were in “different spaces” following the release of their latest album, RAW, but are still on good terms. That album only reached as high as 117 on the US Billboard 200 in October 2023.

“I had to really get back in my bag. People had just been talking to me crazy… So just going through s**t really motivated me to get in the studio and make music,” Miami said. From there, she admitted that RAW “didn’t do too well,” and it inspired her to want to get to work on solo music.

“I think when the City Girls album [RAW] just dropped, and it didn’t do too well, and we was just trying to do our press run. The whole rollout of the album was just so bad because we was just in two different spaces,” she explained. “We older now, and she [JT] was doing her own thing. She on the West Coast, I’m in Miami. I’m doing my own thing. And I felt like naturally, when she doing her own thing, it just worked for her. And when I’m doing my own thing, it worked for me. But when we get together as a group, it just wasn’t connecting. It just wasn’t working no more.”

Yung Miami and JT got into a heated argument on social media, earlier this year, prompting fans to theorize the City Girls were done. Regardless, they quickly made amends and expressed their love for one another. On Saturday (June 1), Megan Thee Stallion’s Hot Girl Summer Tour rolled into Atlanta, where she reunited with local hot girl Latto. The “Budget” collaborators used the opportunity to debut a remix of Latto’s spring single, “Sunday Service,” leaving fans on social media clamoring for an official release.

It should be noted that another high-profile remix track involving Megan Thee Stallion was also debuted at a live show shortly before its release. Megan also announced the impending release of her third studio album, Megan, on June 28 — which would also be a convenient time to release the “Sunday Service” remix, capitalizing on the release day buzz, especially if the song actually appears on the album. If not, a release anytime in the next three weeks would make great promotion for the album, as it’d increase Meg’s visibility without having to release a single and risk spoiling the surprise.

Kendrick Lamar Keeps His No. 2 Spot On The Billboard Hot 100 With “Not Like Us”

Kendrick Lamar apparently still has playlists, dance floors, song queues, and airplay going wild over his final Drake diss, “Not Like Us.” Moreover, it kept its number two placement on the Billboard Hot 100 for the third week in a row after debuting at number one four weeks ago. This time around, the chart-topping track is once again Post Malone and Morgan Wallen’s “I Had Some Help,” which topped the Hot 100 (and dethroned the West Coast banger) for the third week in a row. Other notable returning cuts on the chart this week are Tommy Richman’s “MILLION DOLLAR BABY,” Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” and Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso.”

Furthermore, this comes amid rumors propelled by Terrace Martin, plus some other unconfirmed speculation, that Kendrick Lamar is “locked in.” A lot of folks obviously took this to mean that he’s working on new music with Martin and others in the studio, and die-hard fans are hoping that this could mean an album is on the way. Whether or not that’s true is a mystery, and it dangerously invokes the five-year wait and hype before 2022’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. Will we have to wait until 2027 or is this beef scandal the perfect moment to strike?

Kendrick Lamar Stays Top 2 On The Billboard Hot 100 For Four Consecutive Weeks

Surely, we’ll learn in due time, but it would certainly make sense numbers-wise for Kendrick Lamar to seize the day. After all, he’s not only out-streaming Drake when comparing their diss tracks against each other, but creeped up on his general listenership numbers on Spotify as well. Of course, this doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme, and anyone who thinks they can take The Boy down commercially will dream forever. Also, some fans think that it would be a corny move on K.Dot’s part to drop something, since it would indicate that this beef either intentionally or unintentionally rolled out the red carpet for it.

But who are we to assume and speculate when the only thing Kendrick Lamar’s done in 2024 is drop music and not make any more statements? Still, even if there’s no new music for a while, people still have plenty to talk about when it comes to his previous material -– and that of his family. An alleged reference track by the Compton lyricist for Baby Keem’s “BULLIES” recently surfaced, once again opening up a debate about ghostwriters, reference tracks, writing for other artists, and whether this is a condemnable offense. But ironically enough, Billboard suggests that no matter what conversations people are having, they’re still bumping “Not Like Us.”

Young Dolph Murder Trial Gets New Start Date

Young Dolph’s murder trial has unfortunately faced various delays on the path to justice. But it seems like things might change soon. Moreover, according to new reports, the court rescheduled the previous start date of today (Monday, June 3) to September 23. His alleged killers Justin Johnson and Cornelius Smith will face trial. However, it’s unclear if this new trial will also settle the case of the alleged perpetrator Hernandez Govan. He’s currently out on bond providing for his family and on house arrest. Govan risked endangering these conditions by conducting an interview on YouTube during his time at home.

Elsewhere, Young Dolph’s partner Mia Jaye had blasted the courts system for this delay and spoke to her frustration with what she sees as a lack of accountability in this legal case. “It is truly hurtful that my family was robbed of a future,” she expressed. “My love’s life was taken… and to be left behind to see NO ONE be held accountable in the court of law for the act… is INSANE….

Young Dolph’s Alleged Killers Learn Of Their New Trial Date

“Our family has witnessed lenient bonds being granted, absurd requests approved for the defendants to get a [change of] venue motion, freedom, more time to build a stronger defense… witnessed songs be made, defendants enjoying life while on [house arrest]… all while our loved one is 6feet deep, waiting for JUSTICE to be served… talk about disheartening, unfair, triggering and hurtful,” Young Dolph’s loved one continued. “For everyone who is like ‘trust the process’ our family has for 3 years, but the process & system is BROKEN (which is evident across ALL of Black America LBH… check the stats) and continuing to sit back allowing people to PLAY in your face isn’t trusting the process it is ignoring the process and giving room for any and everything wrong to happen, overlooking ACCOUNTABILITY.
