Apple Music Releases Country Covers of Beyoncé’s Songs by Black Emerging Artists

unnamed 48

Apple Music rounds out Black Music Month with the release of a special Apple Music Nashville Sessions: Beyoncé Covered collection, featuring live-recorded country covers of Beyoncé’s catalog by Black rising country artists.

Celebrating the global icon’s genre-redefining COWBOY CARTER and her profound impact on music, the collection spotlights country artists championed by Apple Music over the years. These artists include Tiera Kennedy, BRELAND, and Joy Oladokun, who have hosted their own radio shows on Apple Music Country. Additionally, Madeline Edwards re-recorded P!nk’s “More” through Apple Music’s Lost & Found initiative, and other Apple Music Nashville Sessions have showcased artists such as Edwards, BRELAND, and Tanner Adell.

All covers are available in Spatial Audio exclusively on Apple Music and include “Sandcastles” by BRELAND, “Irreplaceable” by Brittney Spencer, “II MOST WANTED” by Joy Oladokun, “Halo” by Madeline Edwards, “Drunk In Love” by Tanner Adell, and “1+1” by Tiera Kennedy.

“Sandcastles” by BRELAND

A truly one-of-a-kind force on the country scene, BRELAND is reshaping the genre’s future with his fearless originality and visionary sound, and has earned massive acclaim for merging elements of country, hip-hop, R&B, gospel, and pop. Taking on the mission of redefining the possibilities of country and uniting fans from all walks of life, the New-Jersey-bred artist putting his own spin on “Sandcastles” says, “I think people should be able to express themselves however they want.”

“Irreplaceable” by Brittney Spencer

As a Baltimore native, Brittney Spencer—who released her debut album ‘My Stupid Life’ earlier this year—is known for her free spirit and standout ability to mold life, truth, and wild imagination into songs. Spencer, who covers “Irreplaceable,” tells Apple Music, “When I first heard that Beyonce was making a country album, I felt…ready.”

“II MOST WANTED” by Joy Oladokun

First-generation daughter of Nigerian immigrants and proud queer Black woman, Joy Oladokun counts extraordinary accomplishments thus far—from captivating audiences on sold-out tours and late-night television to finding herself with a guitar in hand on the White House lawn in celebration of equality. Taking on the COWBOY CARTER track “II MOST WANTED,” she thinks the album has amplified an idea that she and her peers—and their fans—have known for a while. “Audiences of country music are bigger than we thought,” she says, “and they don’t look like we thought.”

“Halo” by Madeline Edwards

California born and Texas raised, Madeline Edwards has earned the praise from many—including Apple Music Country’s Ward Guenther who spotlighted the artist as “Riser of the Month” in August 2022—for transcending musical boundaries by incorporating her jazz, soul, gospel and country influences into her unique sound. “I get to add to the tapestry of beautiful American stories that make up the South,” says Edwards, who contributes a version of 2008’s “Halo.”

“Drunk In Love” by Tanner Adell

Brought up between the coast of Manhattan Beach, California and the rustic charm of Star Valley, Wyoming, Tanner Adell lived a free-spirited childhood in the country, complete with cowboy boots and rodeos. Weaving the tales of her upbringing through her musical storytelling, her lyricism keeps its roots in country while infusing an addictive blend of pop vocals and hip-hop beats. “Country music to me means family, and country music lets you tell your story,” the Buckle Bunny songstress tells Apple Music.

“1+1” by Tiera Kennedy

Rising singer-songwriter and Apple Music Country host of The Tiera Show, Tiera Kennedy is injecting country music with a breath of vitality. The Alabama native’s unique sound—an earnest storytelling-based country laced with the influence of the R&B she was raised on—stems from equal parts nature and nurture. As she readies her forthcoming full-length debut album, Kennedy tells Apple Music, “Beyonce has opened a door that’s going to be really hard to close.”

Apple Music Nashville Sessions gives artists the opportunity to perform a selection of their favorite tracks from their catalog, as well as a cover versions of their choice, recorded in incredible, immersive Spatial Audio.

Kendrick Lamar’s 4-Year-Old Custom pgLang Eliantte Chain Gets A Closer Look Amid “Not Like Us” Hype

Kendrick Lamar is someone who rarely wore jewelry during his early years in the game. However, during his Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers era, Kendrick changed things up. He famously wore a glamorous thorn crowd made of jewels. Furthermore, he hit up Eliantte for a special pgLang chain, in 2020. Overall, the formation of pgLang was a huge celebration for Kendrick. He got to bring his cousin Baby Keem with him, and his best friend Dave Free also served as one of the key leaders of the operation.

Last Wednesday, Kendrick Lamar performed at “The Pop Out.” This was a concert he put on in Inglewood at the KIA Forum. It was here where he brought out a plethora of West Coast artists. It was a celebration of the West, and fans were in awe. During the performance, Kendrick was wearing a $600K cross around his neck. However, he also had on his aforementioned pgLang chain. This has subsequently led to a deeper look at the piece.

As you can see, the piece is extravagant and features various colors. The clarity of the diamonds is apparent, and overall, it is one of those pieces that make you wonder how the jeweler was able to put it together. Fans also noted that this very same chain was worn in the “N95” music video. “N95” was one of the biggest songs off of Kendrick’s last record, and the music video was a great place to show the stylish chain off.

Let us know what you think of this chain from Kendrick Lamar, in the comments section down below. How did you feel about the recent “Pop Out” show? Pop Smoke’s Alleged Killer Demands No Jumper Pay Him For Prison Release Coverage

Pop Smoke’s alleged killer pulled up to No Jumper in Los Angeles demanding payment for their coverage of his release from prison. Few details have been confirmed regarding his release, but it appears he got out of a juvenile detention center for his 21st birthday. “You got all these people following me. All these people doing all this extra sh*t.,” he began, before demanding No Jumper pay him for the coverage. He concluded by threatening them not to do so again. Sometime later, he filmed himself outside of the store on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles.

No Jumper doesn’t appear too concerned about the posts, as they shared them on Instagram themselves. One user in the comments wrote: “69 is alive and well, George Zimmerman is alive and well, nipsey killer is chilling and so is Vons Killer. Nobody gon do none and we’ve seen it happen time and time an time again.” Another questioned how he’s out so soon: “I am still perplexed how you can takes someone life and be out in the streets a few years later. But people are locked up for decades over non violent drug offenses??!?”

While one alleged killer has gotten out of prison, another has yet to go on trial. Corey Walker, who is the only defendant who was an adult at the time of the killing, was scheduled to begin trial this week, but a deal with the prosecution fell through. He’s pleaded not guilty to one count of murder, two counts of robbery, and one count of burglary in the killing of the late rapper. “Negotiations fell through, but there’s still a possibility we’ll come to an agreement,” Walker’s lawyer, Deion Benjamin, told Rolling Stone. “A few things need to be ironed out. If they don’t get resolved, we’ll go to trial.” The trial will continue on August 6 if both sides don’t come to an agreement.

Saweetie Claps Back At Haters For Sharing “Negative Propaganda” Following Festival Incident

Saweetie is someone who has had her fair share of run-ins with fans online. Overall, there are many people on Twitter and Instagram who can be especially cruel. Some fans truly believe they won’t be found out for the hate that they spew. However, the “Icy Girl” has certainly seen these comments, and she makes sure to get a few words in. It’s always refreshing to see her clap back on the timeline, and that is exactly what she was doing on Monday.

For those who may have missed it, Saweetie was performing at the Vegandale Festival in Chicago over the weekend. During her set, the artist spotted some people fighting and when she questioned what was going on, the crowd ran away. This led to a stampede of sorts where fans could have gotten injured. On social media, there were some who blamed Saweetie for all of this. Moreover, some accounts tried to make it look like fans ran because they didn’t want to hear her set.

Saweetie Responds

Above, you can see that Saweetie replied to the account MyMixtapez. “This was a serious matter but yall are too obsessed with creating this negative propaganda toward me,” Saweetie wrote. In the last year or so, there has certainly been negative sentiment around the artist and her music. Although with her latest string of singles, she is changing minds. Her song “NANi” has proven to be anthemic, and there is lots of anticipation around her next track. Hopefully, she doesn’t let the negativity ruin her momentum.

Let us know what you think of this situation, in the comments section down below. Do you believe that any of this was Saweetie’s fault? Do you believe that fans are way too fast to jump to these sorts of conclusions, for no reason? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. Boosie Badazz Gleefully Chops Off Ankle Monitor After His Charges Get Dropped

Back in May of last year, Boosie Badazz was arrested in San Diego on gun charges. He was subsequently hit with a Federal gun case that could have come with significant jail time. In the interim, Boosie was being held on house arrest. Overall, he was clearly not happy about his predicament, although he was looking to create his own little town on his property. However, it seems like this endeavor won’t be so necessary anymore.

According to DJ Akademiks, Boosie had the charges against him fully dropped. Consequently, he is officially off house arrest, and a free man. To celebrate, Boosie Badazz held a pool party of sorts. In the video down below, you can see that Boosie decided to have his family around as he cut his ankle monitor off. He seemed to be in great spirits, which makes sense given the occasion. After cutting off the monitor, he jumped into the pool, albeit with some socks on.

Drake Loses Another $500K Thanks To The Stanley Cup Finals

Drake is going through it. The rapper who was dubbed the artist of the 2010s has fallen on hard times in 2024. Former collaborators turned against him and/or dissed him. Kendrick Lamar effectively gave him a bigger rap battle loss than Pusha T. He then went on to celebrate his victory with an already legendary concert on Juneteeth. The dust hasn’t settled on the anti-Drake show, and the rapper has already fallen victim to another unflattering incident. He just lost $1 million betting on the Stanley Cup finals.

The Florida Panthers triumphed over the Edmonton Oilers on June 24. Being the supportive Canadian that he is, Drake put down a bet on the Oilers. The rapper posted the betting stub for the Stanley Cup Finals on June 6, confirming its value of $500K. To make matters worse, it was one of two $500K bets the rapper made that day. He also put down $500K for the Dallas Mavericks to win the NBA finals, which means he lost a staggering $1 million in the last two weeks. The X Twitter account Dallas Nation reposted the betting stubs with a claim that the “Drake curse” is alive and well.

Drake Lost A Combined $1 Million On Sports Bets In June

The “Drake curse” has been a talking point for over a decade. The rapper was quickly deemed back luck to any sports team that he took an interest in. The concept gained so much traction, in fact, that Drake made joke about it during the Toronto Raptors’ NBA title run in 2019. After the Raptors beat the Orlando Magic to advance to the second round, Drake sarcastically asked journalists: “You want me to talk about the curse or you guys good?”

Drake’s betting habits has made for humorous fodder. The rapper’s habits was presented in a more sinister light on the Kendrick Lamar diss, “Meet the Grahams,” however. On the song, Lamar presented Drake’s betting as an addiction, and the cause of unreported money problems. “Thirty-seven, but you showin’ up as a seven-year-old,” Lamar raps. “You got gamblin’ problems, drinkin’ problems, pill-poppin’ and spendin’ problems. Bad with money…” This latest loss isn’t going to help refute Lamar’s claim.

Will Smith To Perform First New Song In Seven Years At BET Awards

Will Smith is having a moment. The entertainer just scored a massive box office hit with Bad Boys: Ride or Die. The press tour for the action sequel has gone a long way in restoring Smith’s goodwill with the public. He knows it too, because he isn’t taking any plays off. In fact, Smith is doubling down and has decided to return to his hip-hop roots. On June 24, the Oscar winner announced that he will perform at the upcoming BET Awards. To make things even more interesting, he will be playing a brand new song.

Smith has flirted with hip-hop a few times in the 2020s. He collaborated with artists like Logic and Joyner Lucas, and he even performed “Men In Black” at Coachella this year. The difference with the BET Awards is that Big Willie Style will be giving fans original material. He hasn’t released a new solo song since 2017, and “Get Lit” didn’t exactly light the world up. Will Smith hasn’t had a top 10 single since “Switch,” which came out in 2005. Now’s the time to attempt a comeback, though, and BET confirmed the performance with a Variety press release.

Will Smith Is Allegedly Working On A New Album

The release was penned by Connie Orlando, EVP Specials, Music Programming and Music Strategy at BET. “From his start as a rapper to The Fresh Prince,” she stated. “To being a box office king as one of the Bad Boys, Will Smith is truly a global icon. And we are honored to welcome him back to grace the BET Awards stage. We look forward to Will adding to yet another defining night for the culture that is not to be missed.” Smith hasn’t divulged any details about the song or the album that it will reportedly serve as a single for. He did, however, discuss why he felt compelled to pick up the microphone during a 2015 Guardian interview.

Will Smith credited his son, Jaden, and Kanye West, for prompting his musical rebirth. “My son tells me I have to write out the things I don’t like,” he told to the outlet. “I can’t write and stop, I have to keep going and going and write them out. I’ve never worked like that before but I think I might give that a shot… I’m exploring.” It’s taken nearly a decade for this exploring to come to fruition, but it sounds like Smith may have finally found what he was looking for. We’ll know for sure on June 30 when the BET Awards air.

Lauryn Hill And Fugees Announce Dates For 2024 Anniversary Tour

The Fugees have a famously contentious history. Personal relations were horrible between Pras, Wyclef Jean and Lauryn Hill for years, as evidenced by lyrics in their subsequent solo works. Fortunately, they’ve been able to set their differences and reunite in the mid-2000s and the 2020s. The Fugees intended to celebrate the anniversary of their iconic album, The Score, with a 2021 tour, but the pandemic led to its cancelation. Now, the trio are trying to celebrate another iconic album on the road.

Lauryn Hill’s solo debut, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, turned 25 in 2023, and the singer made plans to tour the album alongside the other Fugees. Hill’s vocal strain diagnosis in September, however, led to yet another cancelation. That’s two major cancelations in the span of two years. As they, third time is a charm. Hill, Pras, and Wyclef Jean have announced plans to resume the tour this August. Despite being months removed from the Miseducation anniversary, the tour is still being sold as a celebration of the album. This makes sense, given Apple Music’s recent declaration that Miseducation is the greatest album of all time.

The ticket pre-sale kicks off Wednesday, June 26. Regular sale will be made available two days later. Hill issued a statement regarding the tour, and the Fugees reunion, in 2023. She explained her reasoning for revisiting the two pieces of her musical past. “I’ve almost felt compelled to carry a torch. Or to keep a light shining regarding the continual performance of the Miseducation album,” she told fans. “I believe there’s been a reason for that. And the Fugees coming back together for performances too feels like unfinished business we’re destined to handle.”

Lauryn Hill has been busy this year. At least, that’s the rumor. The singer was asked when she’d be releasing new music back in May. Surprisingly, she told TMZ reporters “soon.” Her son, YG Marley, backed up the claim. “Music is on the way,” Marley claimed. “For real this time.” Lauryn Hill has been teasing new music for over a decade, but has never been so direct regarding a timeline. Assuming the anniversary tour goes well, and the new album comes out, Hill fans could be getting everything they’ve ever wanted in one year.

Tyler The Creator Announces Camp Flog Gnaw Dates For Tenth Anniversary

Tyler The Creator is entering a different phase of his career. He went from controversial emcee to critical darling to hip-hop icon. His recent performance at Kendrick Lamar’s “Pop Out” show solidified this pivot. Tyler is taking the momentum from that iconic show and carrying it right into his own festival, Camp Flog Gnaw. The festival is turning ten this year, which means the former Odd Future leader will be going above and beyond to make sure fans get their money’s worth.

Tyler announced the dates for Camp Flog Gnaw 2024, fittingly, on June 24. The two-day festival will take place on November 16-17 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The tickets will go on sale Friday, June 28th and the advance ticket sales will go up a day earlier, on June 27th. Camp Flog Gnaw’s website confirms that general admission tickets will be $345 + fees for both days. VIP passes will be $625 + fees, and the Super VIP passes will be $1,695 + fees. The lineup for Camp Flog Gnaw 2024 has yet to be announced. Tyler The Creator’s official festival poster confirmed that the artists will be unveiled at a later date.

Tyler The Creator’s Festival Will Take Place In November

Camp Flog Gnaw has had its fair share of iconic moments over the years. Tyler The Creator getting a chance to his interview his idol, Pharrell, in 2014, went viral. There was also the infamous Drake show in 2018. He was Tyler The Creator’s surprise guest, but fans expecting Frank Ocean proceeded to boo the 6 God offstage. Tyler came to Drake’s defense, and criticized fans. “Then when that happened and these motherf**kers is like ‘f*ck you’,” he told BET. “It’s a reflection on me to Aubrey.” The irony, of course, is that Tyler has moved over to team Kendrick Lamar.

Tyler The Creator was praised for bringing the festival back in 2023. The pandemic made it difficult to put on between 2020 and 2022. “Covid f*cked us, bro,” the rapper told the crowd. “Didn’t leave a towel, didn’t call to see if we made it home safe, just f*cked us. But three or four years later, and y’all still care to come.” Tyler also thanked fans for showing support and keeping the festival alive. “To know this random idea I had, brings the spirit of L.A. up for two days,” he explained. “I say this with every bone in my body: Thank you all.”
