DJ Mustard Clarifies He Wasn’t Trolling Drake With Toronto Blue Jays Hat During “Not Like Us” Video

DJ Mustard says that he didn’t intend to troll Drake when he wore a Toronto Blue Jays hat during the music video shoot for Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.” Speaking with Big Boy after the star-studded event, he clarified that it was just coincidently the only hat he had left with him at the time.

“I wasn’t trying to troll,” Mustard explained while laughing. “Everybody thought I was trolling. I bought a lot of hats that I like. I bought an STL hat. What’s this an Angels hat? Or a Braves hat?” From there, he added that he sweated out two of his hats during The Pop Out – Ken & Friends, and the Blue Jays hat was coincidently the last one he had with him. “I never thought that much into it,” he concluded.

Elsewhere in the clip, Mustard explained that he and Lamar were discussing how the video was similar to Dr. Dre and 2Pac’s “California Love” video, at which point Lamar revealed to him that he was at that video shoot with his father. The music video shoot came after Mustard and Lamar linked up at The Pop Out – Ken & Friends, earlier in the week. There, Lamar performed the hit song several times over to conclude a night that highlighted numerous West Coast artists. “Y’all ain’t gonna let anyone disrespect the West Coast, huh? Oh, y’all ain’t gonna let nobody mock and imitate our legends, huh?” he asked the crowd at one point.

The Drake Curse Continues As He Went 0-For-2 Picking The Winners In The NBA And Stanley Cup Finals

Depending on who you ask, Drake is one of the unluckiest guys in the world. Yes, he has a lot of money and he’s extremely famous, but when it comes to aligning himself with winning sports teams and athletes who are able to come out on top, well, he doesn’t always look great.

Is there actually some sort of supernatural force that works against Drake and the teams he gets behind? Probably not, unless Kendrick Lamar is far more powerful than I originally anticipated. But unfortunately for Drake, the two huge bets that he made on the two major American sports leagues that crowned a champion this month went kaput, as he posted the following picture to his Instagram account back at the beginning of June.

“Dallas cause I’m a Texan,” Drake wrote in his comment. “Oilers are self explanatory.”

The Mavericks, of course, only took one game off of the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals, and actually got blown out (twice) more than they won. As such, the Celtics were able to win their 18th championship in only five games.

Edmonton was a slightly different story. The team looked like it was going to get swept in the Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers, but they were able to rally and win three games in a row to force a decisive Game 7 back in Florida. Unfortunately for the Oilers, they were unable to finish off their miracle comeback, as the Panthers were able to win a cagey game on their home ice, 2-1, en route to lifting the Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise history.

Seth Brooks Binzer, better known as Crazy Town leader Shifty Shellshock, is dead at at 49 years old.

As Variety notes, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s website, the musician died at his home on Monday, June 25. A cause of death has not yet been revealed.

Rap-rock band Crazy Town formed in the mid-1990s and had immediate success with their debut album, 1999’s The Gift Of Game. It was top-10 in the US and it spawned the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “Butterfly,” the group’s signature song (that’s based on a sample of Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Pretty Little Ditty”). Binzer also featured on Oakenfold’s 2002 song “Starry Eyed Surprise,” a top-10 hit in the UK.

The band broke up following the release of its less successful sophomore album, 2002’s Darkhorse. The group reunited in 2007, though, and in 2015, release their third album, The Brimstone Sluggers. In 2017, following the departure of Bret “Epic” Mazur, the group changed its name to Crazy Town X.

In a 2000 interview, Binzer said of his band’s music, “We’re just having a good time. We’re not like political or anything. I can be very sarcastic just like a little punk, we talk a lot of trash. We have some points, like ‘learn from your mistakes,’ ‘check yourself,’ you know, ‘don’t get taken advantage of.’ Real simple things, nothing too overwhelming.”

Nicki Minaj Attempts To Reassert Her “Number 1” Status Following Cardi B’s Inspiration Award

Over this past weekend, the fourth annual Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards took place and Cardi B was a major headline from it. The Bronx, New York product was the honoree of the Inspiration Award, and she gave quite the impassioned speech. “I’m really my biggest critic and I always say this. Nobody has it harder than in the industry and in every genre than a female rapper, and I’m going to tell you why. You have to have the best verse. Not only that, you have to kill the charts. On top of that, your personal life has to be perfect, or then the opp b****es are going to use that against you”.

Perhaps that “opp” is Nicki Minaj because she did not appreciate her sworn enemy receiving all of that appreciation. Before Cardi B was rewarded for her efforts, she mentioned how she knows how influential she is to her field of hip-hop. In the Instagram clip below, the “I Like It” hitmaker says, “I obviously see it. Sometimes people always want to underestimate everything I have done but I know I have made a change in my field. I know I changed a lot of s***”. She continues, “I know I give a lot of girls inspiration, no matter if they admit it or not. Baby, I see Cardi B all over you, baby. B****, don’t play yourself”.

After waiting in the wings, Nicki Minaj unleashed on X in a late-night rant, looking to defend her “Number 1” status. “Hi so let’s get into this right now. I’m that Btch”, Nicki asserts. “That’s Number 1. Number 2. Revisit number one. If it means you gotta revisit that s*** 500 times a day, DO IT!!!!!!!! Before you EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! Think bout playing pon MY BOMBOROSCLOT HEADTOP!!!!!”. She does make a compelling argument, especially with her bragging about her uber-successful tour during this diatribe.

What are your thoughts on Nicki Minaj’s response to Cardi B talking about inspiring other female rappers? Who do you think is “number 1” between these two and why? Was Cardi deserving of the Inspiration Award in your opinion? Do you think she is bound to drop her sophomore album this year? Tia Mowry Expertly Turns Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Into A Gym-Inspired Dance Routine

Tia Mowry is a beloved actress who continues to engage with fans on social media. Overall, she is not afraid to share a dance routine with her fans when that inspiration strikes. One song that has certainly been inspiring many to show off their moves, is “Not Like Us.” There are plenty of ways to dance to the track, although West Coast artists and dancers certainly have the routine locked down. As you will see, however, Mowry offered a unique twist on the trend.

In the video down below, Mowry could be seen working out when she ultimately used her surroundings to make the dance happen. For instance, Mowry danced along with dumbbells in her hands. Moreover, she did the same dance but on the treadmill. It was tongue-in-cheek and humorous, but at the same time, pretty damn good. “Not Like Us” has proven to be the song of the summer so far, and we’re sure plenty more videos like this are on the horizon.

Nicki Minaj Won’t Be Questioned By Man Who Killed Her Father Amid $150 Million Lawsuit

Nicki Minaj will avoid questioning from Charles Polevich, the man who killed her father in a hit-and-run accident in 2021. While the rapper’s mother, Carol Maraj, is suing him for $150 million, Polevich wanted to question Minaj about her childhood and the allegations of abuse against her dad. According to court documents obtained by In Touch, a judge in New York denied the request.

“Defendant’s motion … to initiate a commission to the appropriate authority in the State of California so that the nonparty deposition of Ms. Minaj can take place, is denied with leave to renew within thirty (30) days of the date of this decision and order, with notice of entry, upon the submission of proof demonstrating the defendant’s efforts to obtain the cooperation of the nonparty residing out of state,” the judge ordered.

The judge added: “In the event that the defendant is unable to furnish such proof to this Court, within thirty (30) days of the date of this decision and order, with notice of entry, the defendant shall be precluded from obtaining said discovery—to wit, the nonparty deposition of Ms. Minaj.” Maraj described the request as a form of “harassment” in other court documents and suggested Polevich only wanted to “drag the litigation on and depose a celebrity.”

Polevich and his legal team have said they need to get to the bottom of the abuse allegations to determine whether the $150 million in damages Maraj is seeking for her losing her husband’s “comfort” and “companionship” is fair. Minaj has been dealing with more legal drama than just the lawsuit as of late. While performing on her Pink Friday 2 World Tour, police arrested her in Amsterdam for alleged drug possession at the airport. Be on the lookout for further updates on Nicki Minaj on HotNewHipHop.

Kanye West Receives Unflattering Depiction In “The Boys”

Back in 2022, Kanye West went on numerous anti-semitic rants. Additionally, he decided to start hanging out with white supremacists like Nick Fuentes and even Milo Yiannapoulos. Overall, this was a shocking display even by Ye’s standards. Fans felt completely betrayed and even now, Ye has been unable to shake the anti-semitic past he has cultivated. In fact, he never truly apologized for his comments, and there are numerous fans who have never returned to his side.

Now, it seems like Ye’s politics are being scrutinized by TV shows. For instance, The Boys is currently in the midst of its fourth season. Despite being a superhero show, it has proven to be inherently political. The show has taken aim at the Alt-Right and conspiracy theorists. In the latest episode, dubbed “Wisdom Of Ages,” a character named Firecracker mentioned Kanye by name while hosting a rally. During this rally, the character spewed their conspiracy theories and vitriol. Meanwhile, they claimed Kanye was actually in the crowd.

Kanye is never actually shown in this episode. However, there is no doubt that the use of his name had many intrigued. Overall, The Boys has never shied away from this kind of commentary, so it shouldn’t be that much of a surprise. Either way, it will be interesting to see whether or not Ye decides to respond.

Let us know what you think of Kanye West being depicted in The Boys, in the comments section down below. Do you believe that this depiction of Ye is completely unfair? How do you think he could rebuild his image after everything that has gone down? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. Sheryl Crow Disgusted With Drake For Using AI On “Taylor Made Freestyle”

The use of AI technology in music, but especially in general, has a lot of people upset and frightened. However, it does not seem like it is going to stop evolving any time soon. Like all things in life, it has its benefits and drawbacks. Only time will tell if people stick to being against it or come around to the idea. But right now, it seems like the general consensus is that its ruining authenticity. That is certainly a valid argument, and it is one that GRAMMY award-winning singer Sheryl Crow is using against Drake. According to AllHipHop, the “Soak Up The Sun” songwriter vented her frustrations with BBC in a feature about this, but also her personal experience with AI, and thoughts on it overall.

Part of the reason this was a topic in the first place was because the longtime vocalist talks about the controversial tech on her new album, Evolution. Specifically, this message is spread on the title track as it refers to a time when a producer replaced her vocals with AI John Mayer. With the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef being so public, artists even like Sheryl Crow know generally what has been going on in hip-hop. As we said, the Missouri native was more than displeased with the Canadian superstar, labeling his action as “hateful”, and “antithetical to the life force that exists in all of us”.

Sheryl Crow & AI Are Like Oil & Water

Crow continued, “You cannot bring people back from the dead and believe that they would stand for that. I’m sure Drake thought, ‘Yeah, I shouldn’t do it, but I’ll say sorry later.’ But it’s already done, and people will find it even if he takes it down”. “Taylor Made Freestyle” was eventually removed due to a cease-and-desist from legal representatives for Tupac’s estate. But she does have a strong point, as what goes on the internet, stays there forever. That is partially why Crow is nervous for society, but also for her kids. She told her teenagers, “‘You’re growing up with this thing and it doesn’t seem dangerous to you because you’re a frog in a pot of water. But the water is only just starting to boil, and you won’t realize it’s getting hotter until we’re all floating on the top’”.

What are your thoughts on Sheryl Crow putting Drake on blast for using an AI Tupac feature? Are her criticisms valid, why or why not? Do you agree or disagree with her thoughts on the technology in general? Is Drake at the lowest point in his career right now? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Drake. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.

Apple Music Releases Country Covers of Beyoncé’s Songs by Black Emerging Artists

unnamed 48

Apple Music rounds out Black Music Month with the release of a special Apple Music Nashville Sessions: Beyoncé Covered collection, featuring live-recorded country covers of Beyoncé’s catalog by Black rising country artists.

Celebrating the global icon’s genre-redefining COWBOY CARTER and her profound impact on music, the collection spotlights country artists championed by Apple Music over the years. These artists include Tiera Kennedy, BRELAND, and Joy Oladokun, who have hosted their own radio shows on Apple Music Country. Additionally, Madeline Edwards re-recorded P!nk’s “More” through Apple Music’s Lost & Found initiative, and other Apple Music Nashville Sessions have showcased artists such as Edwards, BRELAND, and Tanner Adell.

All covers are available in Spatial Audio exclusively on Apple Music and include “Sandcastles” by BRELAND, “Irreplaceable” by Brittney Spencer, “II MOST WANTED” by Joy Oladokun, “Halo” by Madeline Edwards, “Drunk In Love” by Tanner Adell, and “1+1” by Tiera Kennedy.

“Sandcastles” by BRELAND

A truly one-of-a-kind force on the country scene, BRELAND is reshaping the genre’s future with his fearless originality and visionary sound, and has earned massive acclaim for merging elements of country, hip-hop, R&B, gospel, and pop. Taking on the mission of redefining the possibilities of country and uniting fans from all walks of life, the New-Jersey-bred artist putting his own spin on “Sandcastles” says, “I think people should be able to express themselves however they want.”

“Irreplaceable” by Brittney Spencer

As a Baltimore native, Brittney Spencer—who released her debut album ‘My Stupid Life’ earlier this year—is known for her free spirit and standout ability to mold life, truth, and wild imagination into songs. Spencer, who covers “Irreplaceable,” tells Apple Music, “When I first heard that Beyonce was making a country album, I felt…ready.”

“II MOST WANTED” by Joy Oladokun

First-generation daughter of Nigerian immigrants and proud queer Black woman, Joy Oladokun counts extraordinary accomplishments thus far—from captivating audiences on sold-out tours and late-night television to finding herself with a guitar in hand on the White House lawn in celebration of equality. Taking on the COWBOY CARTER track “II MOST WANTED,” she thinks the album has amplified an idea that she and her peers—and their fans—have known for a while. “Audiences of country music are bigger than we thought,” she says, “and they don’t look like we thought.”

“Halo” by Madeline Edwards

California born and Texas raised, Madeline Edwards has earned the praise from many—including Apple Music Country’s Ward Guenther who spotlighted the artist as “Riser of the Month” in August 2022—for transcending musical boundaries by incorporating her jazz, soul, gospel and country influences into her unique sound. “I get to add to the tapestry of beautiful American stories that make up the South,” says Edwards, who contributes a version of 2008’s “Halo.”

“Drunk In Love” by Tanner Adell

Brought up between the coast of Manhattan Beach, California and the rustic charm of Star Valley, Wyoming, Tanner Adell lived a free-spirited childhood in the country, complete with cowboy boots and rodeos. Weaving the tales of her upbringing through her musical storytelling, her lyricism keeps its roots in country while infusing an addictive blend of pop vocals and hip-hop beats. “Country music to me means family, and country music lets you tell your story,” the Buckle Bunny songstress tells Apple Music.

“1+1” by Tiera Kennedy

Rising singer-songwriter and Apple Music Country host of The Tiera Show, Tiera Kennedy is injecting country music with a breath of vitality. The Alabama native’s unique sound—an earnest storytelling-based country laced with the influence of the R&B she was raised on—stems from equal parts nature and nurture. As she readies her forthcoming full-length debut album, Kennedy tells Apple Music, “Beyonce has opened a door that’s going to be really hard to close.”

Apple Music Nashville Sessions gives artists the opportunity to perform a selection of their favorite tracks from their catalog, as well as a cover versions of their choice, recorded in incredible, immersive Spatial Audio.
