Dominic Fike Is All Up In The New ‘Euphoria’ Season 2 Trailer Alongside Zendaya

Dominic Fike is rolling. After the success of last year’s What Could Possibly Go Wrong, he’s spent 2021 appearing on high-profile collaborations like”Die For You” off of Justin Bieber’s smash Justice, Remi Wolf’s sizzling “Photo ID,” and even covered “The Kiss Of Venus” on Paul freakin McCartney’s III Imagined album alongside St. Vincent, Anderson .Paak, and others. He’s also rumored to have a Live From Electric Lady EP due out soon as well. These are high-profile looks and it’s all been building towards Fike’s acting debut on the second season of HBO Max’s Euphoria.

Today the trailer for the new season dropped and Fike is all over it. “I don’t have to do much acting. He’s exactly like me. It’s sh*t I would say and sh*t I would do,” he told Variety back in August. His musically-minded character is even playing guitar in one of the scenes. “I’m just in go-mode right now,” Fike said. “It’s kind of like I’m walking and people are putting tiles under my feet as I take each step.”

He joins the now-Emmy-winning Zendaya in the cast, which also includes Maude Apatow, Angus Cloud, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Barbie Ferreira, Nika King, Storm Reid, Hunter Schafer, Algee Smith, and Sydney Sweeney.

Euphoria Season 2 comes to HBO Max on 1/9/2021. Watch the new trailer above.

50 Cent Declares He’s One Of The Ten Best Rappers Ever

If there’s one thing hip-hop fans like doing, it’s ranking which rappers are the best. Well, 50 Cent has gone ahead and offered a partial list of his own today by saying that when it comes to the best rappers ever, he’s somewhere in the top ten.

He shared a promotional video for his own Branson Cognac on Instagram today and wrote alongside it, “Smile my next album might be my last [laughing emoji]. I terrorized hip hop for 14 years, don’t believe me Nielsen, the numbers will never lie but i’m nobody’s favorite Smh [facepalm emoji] Nah [devil emoji] I’m Top 10 dead or alive and i’m not done.”

As for where 50 believes he is in the top ten, he didn’t say. If he feels the same way now that he did 18 months ago, though, it’s not in the No. 1 spot. In June 2020, he shared a photo of Eminem and himself and wrote on Instagram, “this combination will always work, I think it has something to do with EM being the best rapper in the world but i’m not so bad. LOL.”

While claims about who is the best at what in music are of course subjective, 50 has an impressive resume. His 2003 debut Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ is one of the best-selling rap albums ever and has been certified 9-times Platinum. Furthermore, it sold 872,000 copies in its first week of release, which was a record for a debut album at the time. That remains one of the biggest first weeks for an album in hip-hop history. The album also spawned two of 50’s three No. 1 hits, “In Da Club” and “21 Questions.” All in all, each of his five studio albums has peaked in the top five of the US charts.

Chloe x Halle Are Facing Off In A 90-Minute Twitch Livestream To Encourage Women In Gaming

Looks like there’s absolutely nothing Chloe x Halle Bailey can’t do. These sisters have been Beyonce’s proteges for years now, and broke out in a big way in 2020 with their second album, The Ungodly Hour. Since then, Chloe Bailey has launched her own solo career with the single “Have Mercy,” and Halle landed a starring role as Ariel herself in new live action The Little Mermaid remake. Not too shabby for a few pandemic years! But they won’t stop there, now the sisters are getting involved in the gaming world, and advocating for more women in the male-dominated and historically sexist space.

In an attempt to combat some of the past toxicity, LG is launching a content series as part of its Only On OLED campaign. Chloe and Halle will face off in a live streamed Twitch battle and during their 90-minute match the sisters will be joined by Evil Geniuses Creator Collective stars Lisa Wallen and Aruuu. “We want to encourage women to get involved, learn more, support and take over gaming!” said Chloe of the collaboration. No exact info has been shared on what games the sisters will be competing against each other in, but in the practice snippets from above, they’re driving cars — so definitely some races. Check out the teaser above and look out for the live stream tonight at 7:30 PM EST.

Kelly Clarkson Belts It Out While Covering Silk Sonic’s ‘Leave The Door Open’

The Kelly Clarkson Show has been airing for a couple years now, and during the program’s run, its titular host has established herself as a real force in daytime television. She hasn’t lost touch with her music roots, though, as the show’s “Kellyoke” segment regularly has Clarkson putting her spin on recognizable tunes with her covers. On today’s episode, she took on Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak’s Silk Sonic hit “Leave The Door Open” and showed that she can really sing just about anything.

Clarkson’s backing band delivered a serviceable performance of the soulful song, and Clarkson, being the pro that she is, dominated the track with her powerful vocals, whether she was belting it out during the climactic moments or keeping things reserved and smooth during more low-key sections.

Clarkson has had a handful of memorable moments on her show this year. She successfully covered some of this year’s other biggest hits, like Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” and Billie Eilish’s “Happier Than Ever.” Of course, she also had a particularly illuminating conversation with country legend Clint Black, in which she described a time that she narrowly avoided voiding her bowels on stage, saying, “I got some kind of wrecked up from some kind of food and I literally… we were in an arena, and I shouldn’t tell this story, but like I said, my man: I don’t have a filter. I had to run backstage to my quick-change. I grabbed this poor trash can and boy, I destroyed it. It was bad. It was bad, Clint.”

IV JAY Brings Her Silk-Smooth Vocals To A Special Medley For ‘The Eye’

The Eye features music’s finest rising artist in a stripped-down studio performance space to deliver renditions of their best songs with just one camera, one microphone, and one take. The latest to step up to the plate is R&B singer IV JAY, who combined a couple highlights from her discography into one medley.

JAY, who is also a trained dancer, first developed her interest in music upon hearing some beats from her producer uncle. Then, she got herself a keyboard and used to power of social media to help fuel her ascent. She’s approaching 400,000 Instagram followers now, and between the start of her account and today, her covers have helped her gain a lot of traction. A 2018 cover of Billie Eilish’s “When The Party’s Over,” for example, has hundreds of thousands of views and one like from Eilish herself.

She managed to generate so much buzz for herself online that she found a label home with Atlantic Records starting in March 2018. In late 2020, she dropped her debut album, 5th Element, which includes a feature from Don Toliver. She has followed that up this year with some more new songs, including a Pink Sweat$ collaboration, “Vibrate.”

Speaking of “Vibrate,” that’s one of the songs JAY performed on The Eye. Instead of giving it a standalone rendition, she combined it with “Tweakin’” (a collab with Luh Kel from his 2019 album Mixed Emotions) for a minimalist medley, on which she is accompanied by just a piano. Really, though, she could have taken the tracks on a capella, as her vocals have a smoothness, comfort, and warmth that would still sound world-class if she was singing the phone book.

Inside Ye And Drake’s ‘Free Larry Hoover’ Concert

2021 has been full of unexpected surprises and the reunion between Kanye West (or Ye, now) and Drake coordinated by Rap-A-Lot Records CEO J Prince will live in the hip-hop textbooks forever. On December 9, thousands of fans gathered at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for the Free Larry Hoover Benefit concert to witness two of rap’s biggest stars perform in the name of criminal justice reform.

Alice Marie Johnson, the prison advocate who was freed by former President Donald Trump with the help of Ye and Kim Kardashian, was also there and she shared an enlightening speech amid fog and low-lighting about what this moment meant to her, why it was important to bring awareness to Larry Hoover, co-founder of the Chicago gang Gangster Disciples, and why he should be freed.

Aside from what his son, Larry Hoover Jr., said on Donda (not being around growing up, not being able to see his grandchildren), Johnson noted that Hoover was sentenced to serve over 100 years in prison. They’re calling it unjust because he’s mostly been in isolation his entire sentence. Though rumors swirled around on this dark, cold, night, that proceeds from the show would not go to charity, representatives confirmed that ticket sales from the evening (including a portion of the merch) were set to go to not-for-profit entities Ex-Cons for Community and Social Change, Hustle 2.0, and Uptown People’s Law Center.

The show was put together in just 18 days and according to Ye’s production lead for the event and founder of PHNTM, Gabe Fraboni, the large slab of concrete build centered in the middle of the stadium that everyone was buzzing about days before the show was made from something called shotcrete, he told Uproxx over the phone, with dirt at the bottom and a layer of concrete on top.

After Johnson spoke, the night grew longer and colder as the stadium filled up — even past start time. There was a lot of traffic on the way to the Coliseum — so even though viewers at home (especially the east coast) watching on Amazon Prime were deprived of their sleep, I know it made a lot of attendees happy to find the show hadn’t started when they arrived and there was time to stand around in line for a drink.

First to make an appearance on the night was the Sunday Service choir, donned in all black, descending upon the Coliseum stairs while anointing the show with their spirit and robust harmonies. Fog and the winter chill swirled the concrete mesa below the stairs when two illuminated figures arose from the gloom. The entire stadium stood up and cheered. There was so much to celebrate at that moment.

As Drake took to the sidelines, Ye kicked things off with his Donda cut “Praise God” then went into a fury of his hits such as “Jesus Walks,” “All Falls Down,” and “Gold Digger.” The last time I saw Kanye live was in Dallas during his Touch The Sky Tour, so seeing him perform that exact track brought back warm memories and was a gentle reminder of why I became a fan in the first place. And Ye kept the classics coming. He kept the energy high with his peculiar dance moves that whirled in between a billowing fog and colorful lights. Those two elements were brewed together to create what Fraboni described as an “atmospheric” vibe.

By the way, there were no projectors — just Ye appearing mythical while dancing under the moonlight. With “Find Your Love” for instance, I thought Drake sounded a little strange. Nope. It was Mr. West doing his own rendition, only he was eclipsed by an abundance of fog. And it would make sense that Ye would cover Drake. Earlier that day, there was a video circulating of Drizzy practicing “24.”

When it was The Boy’s turn to perform on the mystic mesa, “24” is the first song he did and it sounded glorious. Aubrey didn’t take us back as Ye did by performing his classics. Instead, Drake opted to perform his more recent hits such as “Way 2 Sexy” and “God’s Plan.” Throughout Drake’s set, Ye’s influence was evident. From the way he hyped the crowd to his quirky way of moving across the stage, anyone watching could tell that Drake is a student of Kanye. You’ll be lucky to find Drake’s full performance of the show, however. Apparently, the new edit on Amazon only features the pair performing “Forever” as the finale. Drake’s entire 12-song set is gone.

Nevertheless, December 9 is a day that will go down in history when two of the music industry’s most illustrious acts, Ye and Drake, set aside their years-long beef to bring awareness to what’s going on with Larry Hoover in hopes of having him freed under Trump’s First Step Act. It’s too early to tell if the concert will actually help with that cause, but at least a few criminal justice reform organizations are getting some shine.

SZA And Kacey Musgraves Are Both Really Interested In A Collaboration

SZA may be focused on her big upcoming acting gig at the moment, but she could have a new collaboration on the horizon as well, as both she and Kacey Musgraves think that they ought to get together and make a song.

Yesterday, a Twitter user wrote, “@sza and @KaceyMusgraves have so much in common and relate the same way but just two different genres they need to collaborate immediately.” The tweet, which came from an account that has 13 followers as of this post, would have been easy enough for Musgraves to ignore. She was apparently intrigued enough by the idea, though, to share the tweet and add, “honestly.”

Later, SZA took to her Instagram Story to share a screenshot of the tweet from a SZA fan page and write, “I think It’s time KACEYYY [single tear emoji] [heart emoji].”

When it comes to collaborations, SZA is a seasoned veteran. Just in the past couple months, she performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! with Isaiah Rashad and linked up with Summer Walker on “No Love.” Meanwhile, Musgraves’ albums aren’t exactly filled with collabs, but she got a lot of people involved in her 2019 holiday special The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show, which featured folks like Lana Del Rey, Camila Cabello, Troye Sivan, Fred Armisen, Zooey Deschanel, Kendall Jenner, and Leon Bridges.

SZA Celebrates Landing Her First Acting Role: ‘Can’t Believe I Got The Part I Wanted’

Being a popular musician requires at least a degree of acting, assuming you’re starring in your own music videos. Even beyond that, though, artists project a version of themselves in the public sphere. In any case, SZA is becoming even more of an actor as she has apparently landed her first real acting role.

Over the weekend, SZA a photo of a cake that reads, “Congrats record breaker and fire actress,” and wrote on her Instagram Story, “I can’t believe I got the part I wanted [watery eyes emoji] she’s an actress.” At the moment, it’s not clear what gig SZA booked, as she doesn’t say in her post or anywhere else.

In the comments of The Shade Room’s post about the image, SZA wrote, “Lmao thank y’all ! And before y’all start somebody BOUGHT me this cake . It’s a sweet gesture n i was being appreciative .”

Annie Bercy, a director and photographer who has worked with SZA, also shared a post about the part, writing on Instagram, “Everything @sza touch turn into gold. My girl is now adding ‘actress’ to her repertoire, congratulations babe!”

SZA has had brushes with the film and TV industries before with her award nominations: In 2019, she and Kendrick Lamar earned Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for Best Original Song with “All The Stars.” She’s also been on a TV show before, although there wasn’t a ton of acting involved, as she portrayed LaToya Thompson on Insecure, appearing just in a still photo.

iHeartRadio Canceled The Last Stop On The Jingle Ball Tour Due To Covid-19

If you thought we were out of the woods with the Covid-19 pandemic think again. The spread of a new variant called Omicron has already set back SNL‘s episode last night to a handful of cast members, and even led to the cancelation of Charli XCX’s performance on the show. Now, it’s led to another cancelation — the final stop on the Jingle Bell tour, which was slated to take place in Miami tonight. The tour has been marred by a handful of other cancellations by artists like Doja Cat, who faced exposures to the virus and needed to take the precaution.

But cases are so high as of this weekend that the radio station isn’t taking any risks and has put the kibosh on the whole tour, which was slated to include performances from Saweetie, Black Eyed Peas, AJR, Tate McRae, Monsta X, Bazzi, Anitta, and Dixie D’Amelio. “Due to the increased transmission of the new Covid-19 variant and to further minimize any potential risks, as a precautionary measure and for the safety of our staff, talent and guests, we have made the decision to cancel tonight’s iHeartRadio Y100 Jingle Ball,” iHeart said in a statement. “Thank you for your understanding. Ticket holders will receive a refund within 48 hours and if the have any issues, they should reach out to their point of purchase.”
