Curren$y & MonstaBeatz Are A “Radioactive” Combo On Their New Collaboration Album

Louisiana rapper Curren$y is still riding on high on Highway 600, as he drops another collab tape called Radioactive alongside MonstaBeatz. This is the prolific talent’s second LP release of 2024 and it follows up on the aforementioned project with Trauma Tone. As much as Curren$y loves to make lowkey slappers, he might enjoy working with producers on his LPs even more. MonstaBeatz, in terms of discography, is not as reputable of a name as a Trauma Tone. But when you delve into the 12 tracks here you are going to be pleasantly surprised. Even with such a minimal history together (“Park Bench” with Smoke DZA), Monsta selects beats that suit Curren$y’s hazy style.

Druggy trap instrumentals are the name of the game once again. However, MonstaBeatz also mixes in some solid synth and tone work to mix things up a bit. It sort of gives the tape a West Coast flavor. Overall, it is quite the toss-up between if Curren$y’s performances are better on Radioactive or Highway 600. Also making this a tougher decision are the features. Jay Worthy, Fiend (twice), DeeLow Diamond Man, and Fendi P are all great and offer some nice cadence switch-ups. So, once again, it comes down to whether or not you prefer them over Don Toliver and Maxo Kream. While we enjoy both from Curren$y this year, check out Radioactive for yourself and let us know your thoughts below.

Ransom Snags MadeinTYO To Produce His 3-Track EP “SMOKE & MIRRORS”

Prolific underground New Jersey rapper Ransom has worked with plenty of talented producers before, but MadeinTYO might be the most interesting one of them all. While the latter was never a massive mainstream figure, the Honolulu, Hawaii born was closer to that mark than Ransom has ever been. The Atlanta based MC is known for breaking into stardom with songs like “Uber Everywhere”, “Skateboard P”, and “I Want”. All of these are far cries from the grittiness of the East Coast underground scene. So, when this surprise EP, SMOKE & MIRRORS, was announced just a couple of days ago, seeing MadeinTYO was a surprise. For those who have been following Ransom, you know that this is the second project for him this year. Beforehand, him and Harry Fraud teamed up for Lavish Misery.

That EP is longer than SMOKE & MIRRORS by five songs, so there is already a smaller margin for error on that factor alone. However, Ransom and MadeinTYO make the most of the 8:53 they share. The opening “SMOKING MIRRORS” is a smooth and chill introduction, with a peaceful guitar loop being the track’s backbone. Narratively, Ransom looks back at his past decisions in his life that have shaped him. “ANTEBELLUM” with Che Noir is a soulful cut about the give and take in relationships with her and Ransom rapping from their gender perspectives. To close things out is “HUMAN NATURE”, which arguably is MadeinTYO’s best beat here. Twinkling piano melodies along with dreamy and soft tones are an incredible marriage on this introspective cut. Overall, this is a terrific short body of work with incredible replay value.

Blxst Proves To Be Another R&B Superstar In The Making On “I’ll Always Come Find You”

The entire state of California has been owning the rap scene in 2024 since Kendrick Lamar’s gentlemen’s sweep of Drake in their beef. Moreover, this has allowed the rest of the acts from the West Coast to feel more ready than ever to put on for their region. Enter Blxst, the Los Angeles rapper/singer hybrid who is now here with his debut album, I’ll Always Come Find You. Now, you may be asking yourself, “How is this his first studio LP?”.

Well, that is a great question, and it appears that Billboard is someone who has some sort of answer. In announcing I’ll Always Come Find You to the publication, he revealed that the timing was a major factor. “This is the most confident I’ve ever felt in my music. What I had to overcome while making this album changed my entire creative process, and the fans deserve to see the growth from that. I would be doing a disservice to not reach the heights I dreamed of reaching when I first started as an artist. No better time than now”, Blxst said.

Overall, we can see where the “Die Hard” guest star is coming from. As it stands, Blxst is arguably at his most versatile on this album. He is giving fans numerous genres of music, as well as some incredibly smooth and vulnerable performances across these 20 songs. So, be sure to give IACFY with the links below. Furthermore, let us know where you would rank this release amongst the rest of his projects.

6ix9ine Compiles His Biggest Records For “Tekashi 6ix9ine’s Greatest Hits”

While 6ix9ine might not make headlines for his musical output anymore, you have to hand it to him for being a consistent hitmaker. That was especially the case in the latter half of the 2010’s decade and even into the 2020’s. The quality of said tracks and records is up for debate, as his antics, absurd and offensive lyrics, and physical appearance seemed to be the main draw for a lot of people. However, that was maybe the goal all along. It certainly worked if that was the case, as the New York born rapper was absolutely everywhere.

It is why this Greatest Hits compilation from 6ix9ine is fairly warranted. Tekashi decided to include 21 songs from various projects, with most of them coming from DUMMY BOY, Day 69: Graduation Day, and TattleTales. Looking at this tracklist, it’s just amazing how he was able to pull of such big-ticket collaborations. Even wilder is that Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Tory Lanez, and A Boogie Wit da Hoodie all came back for seconds and thirds. If you want to relive the glory days of the rainbow-haired rapper, check out the links for Tekashi 6ix9ine’s Greatest Hits below.

Rich The Kid Delivers “Life’s A Gamble”, Executively Produced By Kanye West

“I feel like everything in life’s a gamble. You walk out the front door, you could get hit by a bus. Everything’s a gamble. I’ve taken wins and losses with my career, and I felt it was a perfect title”. That was Rich The Kid explaining the meaning behind the title of his latest studio album, Life’s A Gamble to Billboard. This is the Queens, New York native’s first solo record since 2020’s BOSS MAN. However, he did drop two collaborative tapes that same year —Origin and Nobody Safe— and Trust Fund Babies with Lil Wayne in 2021.

While a fair number of those past releases had lukewarm results, Life’s A Gamble, hopes to perform better. It helps that Rich The Kid has built up a lot of momentum coming in. A lot of that stems from him being on the number one record “CARNIVAL” off of Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s VULTURES 1. Speaking of those two, Rich The Kid grabbing them to executive produce this LP had fans licking their lips. Finally, the lead singles, “Gimme A Second” and its sequel, as well as “Band Man”, have also been performing well.

What we can say about LAG is that you can tell that Kanye and Ty were big contributors. That is especially true when it comes to the production. For the most part, the beats and the guests attached are the stars of the show (Chief Keef, Offset, Quavo, etc.). However, Rich does have solid performances here such as “Gimme A Second” and “Not In The Mood”. But will all of this be enough to negate the long wait and numerous track and feature removals? It sure is a gamble and we will see if it pays off for Rich The Kid soon.

JT’s “City Cinderella” Is For The Haters & The Self-Confident Girlies

JT is continuing to grow her solo portfolio away from the City Girls with City Cinderella. However, if you enjoy those anti-hater anthems, do not fret. Yung Miami’s other half is providing that and then some for 16 tracks (“Servin”, “JT Coming”, “Star Of The Show”). In addition to that though, we are also getting some background information on what makes JT tick. For example, fans will come to learn that she did not have it easy growing up. It is where she gets her subsequent resilience and confidence just moments later on “Intro (Hope)”. “Thesе are facts, ask the b****es on my block how / I was parked at them stoves with them pieces in my socks / And I’m still hot, in the summer, terry cloth / Made it to the top and I swear I’ll never stop“.

Songs like this help break up some of the monotonous qualities of a tape filled with cuts about that aforementioned self-assurance. However, with those tracks being so well produced and performed, you almost forget about that. Overall, JT presents herself with so much poise and it is why City Cinderella works for what it was set out to accomplish. On top of giving fans this eagerly awaited debut mixtape, JT also has loads of other goodies. One of them is a 20 plus minute documentary, which further delves into the rapper’s solo journey, obstacles, and the rise of the City Girls. Additionally, the Miami, Florida native recently announced the tour surrounding this inaugural solo project. It will kick off on August 20 and will run through September 22.

Denzel Curry Dazzles On “King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2” Album

Denzel Curry can do it all. He can lean into Miami bass, like he did on ZUU, or get jazzy, as he showcased on his 2022 album. Curry’s versatility as an artist is displayed so effortlessly that it can be easy to take it for granted. King of the Mischievous South, Vol. 2, however, is undeniable. The rapper’s latest effort is a lengthy, dazzling showcase of everything he does well. Do you like aggressive Zel? There’s plenty of him scattered throughout the tracklist. Moody, reflective Zel? Check. How about a smooth track with Ty Dolla Sign? Didn’t know he could do that? Well, now you do.

Denzel Curry’s wordplay is airtight as always. It’s the musical choices he makes on the new album that prove to be the most compelling changes. He manages the rare feat of choosing beats that sound not at all alike, but somehow maintain an aesthetic consistency. The pumped-up soul sample on “WISHLIST” is worlds away from trunk-rattling Florida banger “HIT THE FLOOR.” Even Denzel Curry’s collaborations on these songs, Armani White and Ski Mask the Slump God, speak to their radical aesthetic differences. Regardless, the songs compliment each other. “ULTRA SHXT” is another hard-hitting standout thanks to its stutter drum pattern and synth leads. The aforementioned Ty Dolla collab, “COLE PIMP,” is evidence that Denzel Curry can make an entire album of radio hits if he so chose. He’s obviously doing something much more interesting, though.

Childish Gambino Is Eclectic As Ever On “Bando Stone And The New World”

Childish Gambino marches to the beat of his own drum. He’s never made the same album twice, whether it be the pop-rap opus Because the Internet or the funky Awaken, My Love. The sounds are different, and the themes wildly varied. This pattern is upheld with the latest (and possibly last) Gambino album. Bando Stone and the New World is a wildly eclectic collection of music, blending and melding genres at every turn. It may be Childish Gambino’s most ambitious album to date. However, it may take a few listens to fully click with fans.

The off-kilter approach is evident from the opening track. “H3@rt$ W3re M3@nt T0 F7¥” is a glitchy, bass-heavy banger with unhinged vocals from Gambino and Amaarae. It doesn’t follow a conventional song structure in the slightest, but it is compelling. The rest of the album is easier to listen to, though not significantly. “Steps Beach” is a gorgeous acoustic number that evokes Childish Gambino’s tropical attire on the album cover. A similar mood is evoked on “Real Love,” which could have been a hit for an indie pop band circa 2012. These palatable moments are broken up, however, by musical left turns. “Happy Survival” is a lush instrumental piece with a repeating mantra. “Got to Be,” meanwhile, is a techo nightmare with Uncle Luke samples. Gambino, regardless of where things go, is having fun challenging his fans.

BLP KOSHER Embraces His Idiosyncrasies On Sophomore Album “Scarecrow”

A lot of people may be quick to dismiss Jewish rapper BLP KOSHER. His dribbling flows and sometimes overly absurd bars might turn off the traditional hip-hop fan. However, we highly encourage you to look past that because the Broward County, Florida native has a lot to offer artistically. The aforementioned qualities are two of the aspects we enjoy in addition to his versatility and beat selection. In February of this year, the 24-year-old rapper and singer began his rollout for previously untitled album. It would be through some vague promotion on social media, and it would not be until March 15 that fans got the lead offering, “Skidoo”. Then, on June 28, “Same Hat” would follow. Still, with little build-up, Scarecrow has been extremely worth the wait as BLP KOSHER is arguably at his best and most diverse.

If you caught “Violent Lullaby” in December of last year, that was just a sliver of what KOSHER can throw at his listeners. His vocal chops on that song, as well as several others on Scarecrow (“Shadow Maze” “Cobwebs”), show that they are unrefined a bit. However, they are not so off-putting that you to immediately skip the track. It goes to show that he is continuing to push himself outside of his comfort zone and be open to criticisms. Speaking of which, that is a main focus of this Bars Mitzvah follow-up. In a statement he mentions how he is embracing his oddities, and he encourages his fans to do the same.

“A collection of intrusive thoughts, life situations and messages combined. This is where weird works so please embrace your imperfections and insecurities and learn to love your inner scarecrow. They will pass right by you, laugh at you, and even fear you, but you are a star”. It is an extremely heartwarming and positive sign for hip-hop that we have artists like BLP KOSHER going and it is part of the reason why Scarecrow works so well.

$NOT Presents His Spacey & Wavy Fourth LP “Viceroy”

$NOT is back with his fourth studio album Viceroy and this time around he is rapping with a restrained presence. However, there are also times where he comes across as evil and maniacal. Or you will hear the Florida MC sound celebratory and happy like on one the promotional tracks, “HILARIOUS”, which features Cochise. Then, as far as the instrumentals go, you are getting your trap fare in a woozier and more lowkey style. You could categorize a fair amount of the beats as plugg if you wanted to. Viceroy is yet another experiment for $NOT but it does not come across as half-baked. Every element feels as if $NOT has been working in this subgenre for decades.

As for where this album falls for the veteran, it comes after his third album, Ethereal which saw its release in 2022. Prior to that, you had two 2020 projects, Beautiful Havoc and – TRAGEDY +. There was some speculation as to what the singles would be for this project, as $NOT put out “CRUEL WORLD” “0%” with ZillaKami, “BULLY” and then the aforementioned “HILARIOUS”. With Viceroy now here, only the latter of the four made the final cut. Listening to this album is quite a hazy experience, and 26-year-old really transports you to the otherworldly soundscape he has created. You feel as if you are in the crib smoking along with him throughout the 17 tracks. Give Viceroy a spin with the links below.
