The Hollywood Bowl’s Packed 2024 Summer Season Features Mitski, Beck, Roots Picnic, And Much More

Today (February 6), the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association announced the 2024 summer season for the Hollywood Bowl. The legendary venue will host performances from artists like Mitski (in her Hollywood Bowl debut) and Beck, as well as the first West Coast edition of Roots Picnic, featuring The Roots, Queen Latifah, Common, Digable Planets, Arrested Development, The Pharcyde, Black Sheep, and more.

Other highlights from the season include the world premiere of Marvel Studios’ “Infinity Saga Concert Experience,” a Juneteenth celebration with T-Pain and special guests, the two-day Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival featuring artists like Kamasi Washington and Robert Glasper, and other performances by artists including Jason Isbell And The 400 Unit, Chaka Khan, Gary Clark Jr., and Herbie Hancock.

Doja is riding some long-running momentum right now: She dropped the “Agora Hills” video back in September, and two months later, the song still sits at No. 8 on the latest Spotify chart.

7. Noah Kahan — “Stick Season”

Kahan is having himself a great moment: In addition to his hit song “Stick Season,” it was just announced he’s headlining the 2024 Osheaga Festival.

6. Drake — “IDGAF” Feat. Yeat

Drake it used to chart accolades, but this is a major moment for Yeat, as “IDGAF” became his first top-10 single in October.

It was a pretty close race for spots No. 5 to 2: Mitski’s song had a hair under 8.1 million streams in the US, while the song in the No. 2 slot had just over 8.4 million plays.

As the year comes to a close and the buzz around Swift’s recent releases starts to die down, the pop icon is starting to lose her grip on the Spotify charts, with just one song in this week’s top 10 (although No. 3 is certainly better than most artists could even dream on).

Fans are scrambling to secure their admission to the festival.

How to buy tickets for Primavera Sound Barcelona 2024

Those interested in purchasing a general admission or VIP package music sign up for the fan presale on the event’s official website here. After they enter their preferred contact information into the form, a list of instructions will be sent over to the provided email.

The fan presale registration started today and will run until tomorrow, November 22, at 11:59 p.m. CET (5:59 p.m. ET). Presale purchases begin on Thursday, November 23, at 11:00 a.m. CET (5 a.m. ET). However, the general on-sale begins Friday, November 24, at 11:00 a.m. CET (5 a.m. ET).

Taylor Swift, Jack Harlow, And Mitski Are Above The Rest On Spotify’s Latest Weekly Top Songs Chart

Streaming services have become the way the majority of fans consume the music they love these days, and Spotify is the clear leader in the streaming space. That makes their tracking data significant, and fortunately, the company maintains the terrific Spotify Charts website. Their Weekly Top Songs charts can serve as a useful complement to the Billboard Hot 100 and offer further insight into what music is currently making music fans move.

10. Taylor Swift — “Cruel Summer”

Summer (Taylor‘s Version) may finally be starting to fade away, as “Cruel Summer” looks just about ready to leave the top 10 of the Top Songs chart.

9. Tate McRae — “Greedy”

McRae’s hit peaked at No. 4 previously but it’s still bobbing around near the top of the chart, rising two spots from last week.

8. Drake — “IDGAF” Feat. Yeat

A new crop of Drake songs will presumably enter the chart next week with the release of For All The Dogs Scary Hours Edition, but in the meantime, his and Yeat’s “IDGAF” is still representing in the top 10.

It feels like Swift will have some sort of chart presence until the end of time, and indeed, this “From The Vault” track is one of the three songs the artist has in this week’s top 10.

5. Noah Kahan — “Stick Season”

Kahan had his commercial breakthrough a year ago with his third album, Stick Season. The title track is crushing it 16 months after its initial release, reaching a new peak in the top 5 this week.

Country music dominated this past summer, and while that trend has mostly dissipated, Zach Bryan is still sticking around with his hit Kacey Musgraves collaboration.

TikTok has become a regular hitmaker these days and Mitski is the latest artist to get a boost from the video platform: It’s currently No. 1 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 chart for a fourth week.

2. Jack Harlow — “Lovin On Me”

Following the song’s release last week, Harlow’s “Lovin On Me” is seeing some early success by claiming the silver medal on the newest Spotify chart (it’s the only song to debut in the top 10 this week). There’s more to come, too, as Harlow called the track the beginning of “a new era.”

This is the third week at No. 1 for the 1989 (Taylor’s Version) highlight (and it’s the only song with at least 10 million streams in the US this week). Swift previously noted of the track, “I always saw this song as sort of a sister to ‘Out Of The Woods’ and ‘I Wish You Would.’ I kind of saw those songs as similar, so unfortunately, when we were making these decisions on what to put on 1989 and what to leave behind, I had to make some tough choices.”

Rihanna And Lady Gaga Got Nominations For Best Original Song At The 2023 Oscars

Today (January 24), the nominees for the 95th Annual Academy Awards were unveiled live, and there were a ton of surprises. For the category of Best Original Song, there were five total nominations.

Most notably, Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever earned Rihanna her first ever nod for an Oscar. The music was done by her, Tems, Ryan Coogler, and Ludwig Goransson.

“It’s her experience with loss in there, and her being a mother. She’s a new person now,” Coogler revealed to Collider about Rihanna’s impact on the song. “I hear it in her voice. It’s her, but it’s a new her.”

Lady Gaga also was a big-name nominee, as her “Hold My Hand” collaboration with Bloodpop from the Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack earned the Academy’s attention.

Rounding out the category, Diane Warren’s “Applause” from Tell It Like A Woman; M.M. Keeravaani and Chandrabose’s “Naatu Naatu” from RRR; and Ryan Lott, David Byrne, and Mitski’s “This Is A Life” from Everything Everywhere All At Once were nominated, too.

Just a few weeks ago, “Naatu Naatu” won a Golden Globe for Best Original Song, making it the possible frontrunner for the Oscars race as well. Fans in the Academy’s replies also seem intensely happy that the song got a nod.

The Oscars ceremony will be held on March 12 at 8 p.m. ET, where the winners — including for this category — are revealed live.

David Byrne And Mitski’s ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ Song Gets The Multiverse Treatment

If you haven’t seen A24’s mind-blowing multiversal adventure Everything Everywhere All At Once, don’t worry: Somewhere out there, there’s a version of you that has, and they enjoyed it immensely. To celebrate the film’s unexpected success — it’s got a near-perfect 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and has reduced plenty of packed houses to tears while becoming a box office smash — A24 has shared a “musical multi-verse microsite” bearing a reimagining of “This Is A Life,” the film’s unofficial theme song by David Byrne, Mitski, and Son Lux.

Powered by AI company Bronze, the new site reflects the film’s theme of how a singular entity can exist in infinite parallel realities. The machine learning behind the site changes the song subtly — or dramatically — on each listening, resulting in a completely new experience every time. For instance, the first time I hit play, the song started strong with David Byrne’s vocals first. The second time, it was very downbeat, leading with Mitski’s voice. Meanwhile, in future listenings, it could be all instrumental, or the instruments could change arrangements.

Unfortunately, there’s no telling which version is from the universe with the hot dog fingers (again, go see the movie). But being able to imagine that there are infinite universes where the song sounds different in each one is a cool way to connect the already enigmatic and enjoyable soundtrack with the high-low concept of the film it accompanies.

Mitski, The National, And The Roots Will Headline The 2022 Pitchfork Music Festival

Pitchfork Music Festival will return to Union Park in Chicago this summer. Celebrating newcomers and veterans in the realm of indie music, Pitchfork Music Festival takes place over the course of three days, with over 60,000 fans expected to attend this year.

Festivities kick off Friday, July 15, with headliners The National, Spiritualized, and Parquet Courts. Supporting these headliners are Tierra Whack, Ethel Cain, Cupcakke and more. Mitski, Japanese Breakfast, and Lucy Dacus will take the stage Saturday, July 16, with support from Magdalena Bay, Chubby And The Gang, and more. Closing out the festival on Sunday, July 17 are The Roots, Toro Y Moi, And Earl Sweatshirt, along with the likes of Noname, Badbadnotgood, and Injury Reserve.

“This year’s lineup is a celebration of the rising indie class, and those who continue to pave the way for innovation,” said Pitchfork editor in chief Puja Patel in a press release. “Our goal was to highlight a diverse group of artists who are taking their musical genres to new heights, and I’m proud of how it’s come together.”
