Megan Thee Stallion to Host 2024 VMAs

Megan Thee Stallion’s Foundation Launches Emergency Power Program with Bread of Life Inc.

Three-time GRAMMY®-winning superstar Megan Thee Stallion is set to make “Hot Girl History” as the host of the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). The event will be broadcast live on Wednesday, Sept. 11th, at 8 PM ET/PT from New York’s UBS Arena, marking Megan’s first-ever award show hosting gig.

Megan’s hosting debut comes during a record-breaking year, highlighted by the release of her new album, MEGAN, and her global “Hot Girl Summer Tour.” The album, featuring collaborations with artists like Victoria Monét, GloRilla, UGK, Big K.R.I.T., Kyle Richh, and Yuki Chiba, has solidified her status as an unstoppable force in music.

Her latest single, “MAMUSHI,” has generated over 150 million global streams and topped Spotify’s Global Viral chart in Japan. Earlier this year, Megan earned her third Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 with the dynamic track “HISS,” which became the first solo female rap song to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200.

Megan, a two-time VMAs winner, is nominated for five awards this year, including “Best Collaboration” with tourmate GloRilla and “Best Hip Hop.” She first won a VMAs Moon Person in 2019 for “Best Power Anthem” with her hit “Hot Girl Summer.”

Beyond music, Megan has made waves by hosting Saturday Night Live, co-hosting The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and being the first Black woman on the cover of Forbes’ Under 30 issue. Her influential work includes being named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People of 2020 and writing a powerful op-ed, “Why I Speak Up For Black Women,” for The New York Times.

Megan Thee Stallion continues to keep winning in 2024, as she will be the host of the 2024 MTV VMAs. September 11 on @mtv! 👩‍🚀”. For those wondering what time you can start watching, it will air at 8 p.m. ET. The Houston, Texas rapper will be a busy bee that night, as she is also up for five categories. Those include “Best Collaboration”, “Best Hip-Hop”, “Best Direction”, “Best Visual Effects”, and “Best Art Direction”. Overall, fans seem to be pretty juiced about the news.

“I ain’t watch the VMAs in years. I’m bout to throw a whole watch party 😂”, one IG user claims. “The V M Ahs😍”, another cleverly writes. Of course, there was also some back-and-forth shots from the Hotties and Nicki Minaj’s Barbz. “The barbs are angry 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂”. “They couldn’t get Nicki Minaj so they had to settle and down grade for Megan”.

As we said earlier, Megan has just been on absolute tear overall. Some of her biggest accomplishments include dropping her comeback album MEGAN, going on the Hot Girl Summer Tour, and even her catchy Amazon jingle for this year’s Prime Day. But she’s also run things on other popular programs such as Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Megan Thee Stallion & GloRilla Claim They’re The First Big Southern Femcees Of Their Generation

Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla are very much kindred spirits in the world of femcees (and all rappers) today. Moreover, they went on tour together, have multiple collaborations, seem to love each other’s company, and are proud of their Southern roots (Houston and Memphis, respectively). During what seems like a recent sit-down podcast conversation for Instagram, they discussed how they bonded and their similarities. In addition, Megan remarked on how she feels like they were among the first huge female hip-hop stars from the South of their generation, a sentiment that Glo seemed to agree with. Many misinterpreted her comments to mean “of all time” and not “of [their] time,” like Meg actually said, so make that distinction clear before you proceed.

“Like, I just wanted to go by myself,” Megan Thee Stallion’s comments on her tour alongside GloRilla began. “It was my first time going on my own tour. But I really like your music! I really felt like, you know, it’s the ‘Hot Girl Summer’ tour. We need girls. Like, we need to have a good time, we need to have a blast. And then I started thinking about who I feel like I would have a blast with. I feel like we are doing something very unique for the South. Like, having big female rappers from the South, I feel like we really the first of our time that really took off with it. So I was like, ‘I gotta bring Glo.’”

Megan Thee Stallion & GloRilla Speak On Southern Femcees

Elsewhere during their conversation, Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla spoke on their creative and personal synergies and about how great of a time they had. As for their Southern femcees comments, the list is definitely longer, and they would also agree. After all, they’ve worked with the likes of Atlanta’s Latto (who just dropped her new Sugar Honey Iced Tea album) and Alabama’s Flo Milli (who dropped Fine H*, Stay this year, too).

As such, we’re sure that Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla would add more to that list, especially if they’re bringing it back to an all-time conversation. Speaking of which, Complex just released their Top 50 Atlanta Rappers list. It’s about as divisive as these thoughts on Southern femcees, so let us know what you think about all that down in the comments section below.

Megan Thee Stallion And GloRilla Weren’t Quite Sure About Each Other When They First Met, They Admit

Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla have become fast friends: Over the past few months, they linked up on “Wanna Be” and now they’re on the road together for the Hot Girl Summer Tour. Despite their current closeness, though, the start of their friendship wasn’t perfect.

The two chatted with each other for a new episode of the Close Friends Only With Instagram podcast, and Glo said, “I first met you at your Hottieween party last year, and I ain’t gonna lie, I was kinda shy. You were just acting like you weren’t drinking that night. I was like… in my head, I’m like, ‘This b*tch ain’t acting like she ain’t drinking,’ like, ‘What’s up with this b*tch?’”

As Glo trailed off with laughter, Megan exclaimed, “You is not telling the truth!” She continued, “You know what it is? ‘Cause you be coming late and then you be like, ‘Yeah, come on, let’s turn up.’ First of all, you need to catch up. That’s what you don’t like to do: You don’t like to catch up.”

Glo laughed as she agreed with Meg’s take. A few minutes later, Glo explained what her first impression of Megan was, saying, “You was nice […] when I first met you, on God. […] You were sweet as f*ck.” Meg asked if Glo thought she was going to be sweet and Glo continued, “I mean, like, you come off as standoff-ish. […] You come of like you nice, but you standoff-ish. So that’s why I told you I was shy.”

As for Megan’s impression of Glo, she said, “I really didn’t know what you was gonna be like before I met you. I was like, OK, from afar, you was turnt, but I didn’t know how turnt it was gonna be. I ain’t know if it was some bullsh*t for, like, Instagram, or if it was gonna be real life. But then when I got to know you, I was like, ‘Yes, this might be my cousin!’ Like, ‘This is my people!’ So yeah, I thought you was really sweet, too, and I thought you was funny as hell.”

In the video, Megan transforms into a mamushi—a venomous Japanese viper—and partners with Yuki to take down gangsters invading her spa. She then uses the souls of the deceased gangsters to create an army of blue-faced soldiers, paying homage to Akira Kurosawa’s 1990 film “DREAMS.”

Megan Thee Stallion & GloRilla’s Love For Beyonce Sparks An Interesting Debate Amongst Fans

It’s easy to say that Beyonce’s fanbase is one of the largest and most loyal in all of music. Also called the Beyhive, her support spans the entire globe. Thanks to that, she continues to sell out shows, land tons of brand deals, and of course, move tons of records. A lot of fellow musicians also have a ton of love for the Houston native, including Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla. These two leading ladies of hip-hop recently voiced their idolization for Queen Bey in a recent chat with Instagram. Their love for Beyonce is so strong that if you show any sort of disliking toward her, it’s on sight with them.

Megan Thee Stallion and Big Glo also talk about the first few times they met Beyonce. For both of them, they were so starstruck. In fact, it was so surreal for the Memphis MC that she claimed her soul left her body and went to heaven. All of this praise and backing for the R&B superstar had some fans pretty weirded out. Additionally, some were wondering why Jesus can’t get this much love from people.

“Now if we could love, adore, and worship Jesus like this…Can you imagine?”, one IG user wrote in response to the clip. “Jesus is the only person I would leave my body for!”, another adds. “Idolizing someone like this is weird imo 🤷‍♂️”. Others were more chill about the Beyonce love. “🗣IF YOU TALK BAD ABOUT BEYONCÉ YOU JUST A HATER!”. “They just showing another woman love. Why females just can’t get along without hating?”. Of course, there were also some Nicki Minaj fans that continue to wait for Meg and Glo to give their rap queen the same love. “But they wont give the same flowers to the girl who opened the door for them 🫵🏾”.

What are your thoughts on Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla fangirling over Beyonce? Do you think the fan reactions are warranted, why or why not? How do you feel about idolizing other celebrities? Megan Thee Stallion Is A Venomous Vixen In Music Video For “Mamushi”

Megan Thee Stallion’s comeback has been one of much success. Her self-titled third studio album MEGAN performed very well in its first week, selling a respectable 64,000 copies. That was good enough for a number three debut on the Billboard Hot 200 and it’s currently sitting at number 40. A lot of tracks have been garnering a lot of love from fans and one of them is Megan Thee Stallion and Yuki Chiba’s “Mamushi”. The track is an ode to her adoration for Japan and its culture, and her being able pay respect to it on her biggest album has to have felt good. Since it landed on the Hot 100 five weeks ago, the track has not left and right now it’s in at the 36th slot.

It makes sense why it remains pretty high too. “Mamushi” is one of the slickest and catchiest songs on the record thanks to Megan’s melody on the chorus. Additionally, her rapping in Japanese alongside Yuki Chiba was a fun addition. At some point, a music video was bound to come to fruition and that day is today, according to Uproxx. There were some hints of this being in the works in late July, as she announced the filming of the video in Japan was getting underway on her IG. The video is a creative one, as there appears to be a fun callback to Rush Hour 2. A man walks into spa and selects Megan to be his masseuse. However, she transforms into Japan’s deadliest snake, the Mamushi, and kills him. In fact, anytime a man leers at her, she turns into this venomous reptile. It’s another way of alluding to Megan shedding her past and the men she deems no good.

Megan Thee Stallion’s NSFW New ‘Mamushi’ Video Sees Her Transform Into A Gigantic Snake

Megan Thee Stallion has frequently proven that she’s a lover of Japanese culture, whether she’s busting out Sailor Moon cosplay or presenting at the Anime Awards. Her love for the country continues to shine through in her latest output, a new video for the Yuki Chiba collaboration “Mamushi.”

A mamushi is a venomous type of viper found in Japan, and it turns out that Meg herself becomes one in the video. It starts with a man, played by Japanese actor Shô Kasamatsu, visiting a spa. There, he’s given a variety of women to choose from (in an apparent Rush Hour 2 reference), and he opts for Meg. Quickly, though, she transforms into a gigantic mamushi, which doesn’t bode well for Kasamatsu’s character. Between transformations and other goings-on, Megan hangs out in the spa and raps the song while frequently naked.

The video was filmed in multiple locations in Tokyo including the Tsurumaki Onsen Jinya (an onsen is a type of bath facility) and the Engaku-ji Temple (a major Zen Buddhist temple in Japan).

The visual arrives during a busy time for Meg: She just popped up at a Kamala Harris rally, she features on Latto’s new album, and a documentary about her life appears to be on the way soon.
