Jackson Mahomes Credited With Helping Child During Chiefs Parade Shooting

Jackson Mahomes, the often-controversial brother of Patrick Mahomes, is being hailed as a hero for his actions during the mass shooting at the Chiefs Super Bowl parade. Furthermore, eyewitnesses claim that Mahomes leaped into action to help a young child who became separated from their parents. “I don’t care what anyone says but I have found a newfound respect for Jackson Mahomes. Ana and I were stuck hiding with him at union station by the trains. And he was taking care of a child who lost his parents and helping him calm down,” a woman wrote on X after the shooting.

It is believed that a trio of individuals opened fire on the crowds outside Union Station a few minutes after Chiefs players and coaches made speeches about their Super Bowl win. One person was killed and 21 more injured, including 11 children. However, all three suspects are now in police custody. Many people expressed their surprise that Jackson Mahomes was still present at the festivities at the time of the shooting. Most assumed that he had left with the team.

Joel Osteen Lakewood Church Shooting: What We Know

Tragedy struck this week when an armed shooter reportedly opened fire into the crowd at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood church in Houston, Texas. Osteen, best known for his controversial media career in televangelism and failure to help those in need during times such as flooding and natural crises, runs the third-largest megachurch in the country, regularly attended by more than 45,000 individuals. While the shooting wasn’t as severe as it could have been, it did injure two people, with one still in critical condition. The event concluded with church security fatally shooting the armed woman. There are still many unanswered questions surrounding this tragedy, such as the shooter’s motive for the mass shooting. Here’s everything we know so far.

The Shooter Has Been Identified

Genesse Ivonne Moreno, 36, was the perpetrator of the February 11 shooting, per Houston police officials. Apparently, Moreno entered Joel Osteen’s church with an AR-style rifle tucked into her trench coat, accompanied by her seven-year-old son. Police searched Moreno’s home address in Conroe, Texas, which is over 50 miles North of the megachurch, and failed to find anything that would explain Moreno’s shocking and horrifying behavior.

Authorities also claim that, although Moreno suffers from a known history of documented mental illness and has several arrests on her record, she legally acquired both her AR-15 and .22 caliber rifle, which she brought into the church. Moreno also threatened to have a bomb on her person and sprayed a mysterious substance from a can. Luckily, police say there was no bomb, and the substance didn’t appear to contain any harmful chemicals. The shooter’s rifle reportedly had a “Palestine” sticker on the buttstock, and police were able to uncover some antisemitic writings penned by Moreno after the incident. However, investigators haven’t determined whether her political views are relevant to the incident.

The Shooter Died In An Exchange Of Gunfire

After entering the Joel Osteen megachurch just before 2:00 p.m., the shooter began to open fire as members of the congregation scrambled for safety. Before two off-duty police officers confronted her, Moreno shot a man in his mid-fifties in the hip and her own son in the head. The armed officers, who had been working security for the megachurch, exchanged gunfire with Moreno until they fatally wounded her. The shooter’s son is still in critical condition as of this writing.

The quick actions of security helped to avoid what could have been a staggering body count from the tragic event. Yet, Moreno’s ability to get in the building does beg the question as to how security missed her multiple weapons in the first place. Mayor John Whitmire promised during an address to the city that Houston would increase protection and security at churches, as well as other places of worship such as synagogues and mosques.

Joel Osteen also weighed in on the shooting, stating, “Our community is devastated by today’s events and grateful for the swift actions of law enforcement. Please join me in continued prayer for healing and peace.” Investigators continue to uncover more details as they delve further into the situation.

Travis Kelce Says He “Crossed A Line” Yelling At Andy Reid

Meanwhile, Travis Kelce has called the now-viral moment of him yelling at Andy Reid “unacceptable”. “I did [cross a line]. I can’t get that fired up to that point where I’m bumping Coach and it’s getting him off balance and stuff. He’s checked me a few times and I just wanted to let him know that I wanted this thing, and he can put it on me, and I got him. You know, it just came in a moment where we weren’t playing very well. I wasn’t playing well, and we had to get some sh-t going. Sometimes, emotions get away from me and that’s been the battle of my career,” Kelce told his brother.

Kelce was caught bumping into the Chiefs head coach and visibly screaming at him during Sunday’s Super Bowl. At the time, the Chiefs were trailing the 49ers and struggling to find a way through the San Francisco defense. However, Kelce noted that Reid’s immediate reaction surprised him. “Coach Reid actually came right up to me after that and didn’t even have harsh words for me. I was ready to get a f-cking a—chewing and for him to just tell me to ‘f-cking be better’. And he just let [me] know, ‘Hey man, I love your passion. I got cameras on me all over the place man, you don’t want things to come off’ … and it just made me … fired up to get a f-cking victory for him, man. Cause that’s how much I love that dude, man,” Kelce reflected.

LeBron James Calls For Gun Control In Wake Of UNLV Shooting

LeBron James spoke at length about America’s continued inaction about gun control after three people were killed in a mass shooting on the campus of UNLV. “It just goes back to what I said before about guns in America. I think it’s such a longer conversation, but we keep dealing with the same story. This same conversation every single time it happens, and it just continues to happen. The ability to get a gun, the ability to do these things over and over and over, and there’s been no change is literally ridiculous. It makes no sense that we continue to lose innocent lives, on campuses, schools, at shopping markets and movie theaters and all type of stuff. It’s ridiculous. The fact that we haven’t changed anything — it’s actually been easier to be able to own a firearm. It’s stupid,” LeBron said.

LeBron’s comments came from a press conference held just three miles from the Lee Business School. LeBron and the Lakers were in Vegas ahead of the semifinals of the In-Season Tournament. In a separate statement, the NBA announced that they would hold a moment of silence for the victims before Thursday’s games. Across the country in Ohio, Dayton cancelled its Wednesday night game against UNLV due to the shooting.

UNLV Shooting: Latest Updates

More details have emerged about the shooting that rocked the suburban campus of UNLV late Wednesday morning. The suspect has not been named. However, he is believed to be an academic who recently unsuccessfully applied for a position at the college. According to a source who spoke with the Associated Press, the suspect had most recently worked at East Carolina University. Per the official police timeline, the man opened fire inside the Lee Business School around 11:45am local time. He was later killed in a shootout with police detectives outside the building.

While casualties were not initially reported, police have now announced that three people have died as a result of their injuries. Furthermore, a fourth individual has been described as being in “critical but stable” condition. Despite the semester winding down, police said that numerous students were congregated outside due to the building’s proximity to the student union center at the time of the attack.

Shooting On UNLV Campus Leaves Suspect Dead, At Least 3 Hospitalizd

Police have responded to a mass shooting at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Law enforcement was alerted to an active shooter situation around 11:45am local time. Later, a police officer “engaged” the suspect, who has since been reported to have died. However, it is unclear how the suspect died. Furthermore, local law enforcement refused to say how many, if any, people had died in the shooting. “Right now, we know there are 3 victims, but unknown extent of the injuries. That number could change,” Sheriff Kevin McMahill said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

On X, formerly Twitter, the university said that the suspect had opened fire at the Lee Business School. Additionally, reports emerged that police were responding to reports of shots being fired at the nearby student union. Later, an FBI SWAT team was spotted on campus by an Associated Press reporter. The university has said that it remains the site of an “active investigation”. UNLV sits just three miles from the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino. The Hotel was the site of one of America’s worst mass shootings when, in 2017, a lone gunman killed 60 people and wounded hundreds more.

Arrest Video Shows Aaron Hernandez’s Brother Asking Police To Shoot Him

DJ Hernandez, the older brother of Aaron Hernandez, was arrested on July 18. Hernandez had been accused of planning a mass shooting, with a woman who lived with Hernandez claiming that he had spent time scouting the campuses of UConn and Brown. Hernandez played for UConn between 2005 and 2007 and for Brown in 2010 and 2011. Furthermore, prior to his arrest, Hernandez had been posting increasingly concerning comments on social media. “Will I kill? Absolutely,” one post read in part. Hernandez had previously been arrested in March after throwing a bag of bricks onto the ESPN campus in Bristol, Connecticut, where Hernandez also lived.

Following the reports from a woman who lived with Hernandez about his planning mass shooting, police moved to apprehend Hernandez. According to the Bristol PD, Hernandez emerged from his home and repeatedly asked the police to shoot him. Additionally, he later had been incapacitated using a stun gun after threatening to kill the on-scene officers. While being transported to a hospital, Hernandez reportedly told officers he planned to kill anyone who had “profited” from his brother. Aaron Hernandez, who took his own life in 2017, played for the University of Florida before joining the New England Patriots.

Hernandez Arrest Video Confirms Suicide By Cop Plea

TMZ has since released the bodycam footage taken during Hernandez’s arrest. Hernandez is seen approaching officers with hands raised and can be heard repeatedly saying “shoot me.” Hernandez is then shot with a taser as he continues to walk towards the arresting officer. As he is being restrained, Hernandez says “It’s not fair, no one listens. I don’t do this shit. Dude, I need your help.” It’s unclear what Hernandez is referring to in that moment.

UConn said in a statement that it determined at the time that there was “no known imminent threat” while Brown issued a statement saying they had no record of Hernandez returning to the campus in recent weeks. As for the next steps, Hernandez will appear in court on August 1. He is facing charges including threatening, breach of peace and failure to appear in court. The latter of those charges stems from a July court date Hernandez skipped in relation to the ESPN incident. Currently, Hernandez is being held in lieu of a $250,000 bond.

One resident, Terry Brown, was outside of his home when he heard the shooting occur. He let five young people into his home, shielding them from the gunfire. “They were running for their lives,” he recalled, going on to detail the horrific scene. “It was so many kids. It was chaos,” he explained. “Parents were running around looking for their children, hollering and screaming, and don’t know if their children has a bullet in them.” He asked “Who would pull up and do something like this?,” calling the shooting “just plain evil.”

Governor of Maryland Wes Moore also shared a statement amid the tragedy. “Maryland has had enough of watching gun violence continue to ravage our state and our nation,” he said. “The fact that these horrific shootings continue to take place is abominable.” “We as a state will continue to do everything we can to prevent senseless acts of violence like the one we saw last night,” he continued, “To the loved ones of these Marylanders, I am so sorry for your loss. Mass Shooting Leaves 10 Wounded In Denver After Nuggets’ Finals Win

A mass shooting in Denver, Colorado has left at least 10 people wounded. It occurred in an area of the city where fans had been celebrating the Nuggets’ first NBA title win, early Tuesday morning. Police have taken a suspect into custody. He was among the 10 people wounded.

The shooting occurred around 12:30 AM, local time, roughly one mile from Ball Arena, where the Nuggets defeated the Miami Heat a few hours earlier. Three of those who were wounded are in critical condition with the rest believed to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

“As far as what led up to this altercation that resulted in the shots being fired, that’s still under investigation at this time,” police spokesperson Doug Schepman said. “It did occur in the area where we had the largest gathering of folks celebrating during the night.” Schepman added that the celebrating crowd in the area had “diminished quite a bit at that point.” The shooting occurred in an area of the city where people were likely leaving various bars and restaurants. “We had a lot of officers in that immediate area of 20th and Market when the shooting occurred, which is why the response to it was so quick,” he said.

Chief Ron Thomas provided an update on the situation in a press conference later in the day. He explained that the shooting was likely sparked by a drug deal gone wrong. Thomas added that there are two suspects and roughly 20 rounds of ammunition were fired at the scene. Further details are unavailable, but Schepman described the ongoing investigation as “expansive.” Be on the lookout for more information in the coming days.
