Masego’s “What You Wanna Try” Emerges As A Fan Favourite On His Self-Titled Album

With the summer months quickly coming up around the corner, Masego is doing his part to set the vibe on his self-titled album. The project arrived this New Music Friday (March 3), and consists of 14 featureless tracks. Among them are previously released singles like “You Never Visit Me,” “Say You Want Me,” and “Two Sides (I’m So Gemini).”

Of the 11 newer arrivals on the tracklist, one title has already emerged as an obvious fan favourite – “What You Wanna Try.” Earning nearly 100K streams on Spotify alone in its first weekend out, the groovy tune was produced by Dan Foster, Louie Lastic, and Masego himself. “I’m in Detroit with Khadijah / Fighting feelings, rollin’ weed, yeah,” he chiefly sets the scene as the first verse begins.

Masego Shines on “What You Wanna Try”

“Is you tryna stay on the ride? / Or is you tryna, is you tryna leave the vibe?” the “Tadow” hitmaker later asks on the chorus. “Is you tryna fall for the night? Or is you tryna, is tryna fall for life? / City full of pеople, you got options, right? / Baskin’ Robins, baby, what you wanna try?” he cleverly continues, name-dropping the beloved ice creamery while trying to discern his love interest’s preferences.

Now that Masego has finally landed, the recording artist will have plenty of new arrivals to perform for fans on his upcoming tour. Later this month, the 29-year-old will be kicking things of in Las Vegas before moving on to stages in San Francisco, Vancouver, Detroit, Toronto, New York, and more. His final stop will be in Los Angeles at the end of April before heading overseas to sing at Brixton’s Cross the Tracks Festival in May.

Masego’s Self-Titled 14-Track Album Has Arrived: Listen

Throughout his career, Masego has cooked up a solid roster of collaborative releases, such as “Mystery Lady” with Don Toliver and “Silver Tongue Devil” featuring Shenseea. For his latest full-length album, however, the Jamaican has opted to switch things up in favour of a featureless release. His 14-track self-titled effort landed this New Music Friday (March 3), and it’s already got listeners singing his favourites.

The “Tadow” hitmaker preceded Masego with several singles, including “You Never Visit Me” and “Say You Want Me.” Additionally, he poured his Gemini duality into his “Two Sides” track, which received an accompanying music video a few weeks back. “Two sides, choose your fighter, I’ll be your type, it’s a fine line, answer a Gemini, Gemini,” he sings to the camera.

Now that he’s got a collection of new music that’s been shared with the world, Masego is once again ready to head out on the road. On March 13th, his first show will take place in Santa Ana, California at The Observatory. Afterward, the 29-year-old has booked stages in Miami, Boston, New York, and Dallas before he wraps up the You Never Visit Me tour in April.

Ahead of his new album’s release, the singer’s Instagram feed lit up with a message of gratitude for his loyal followers. “Thank you to anyone that drives, flies, and journeys to watch me perform. Tour is my favourite part about being an artist. Pure artistry and I promise I’ll give my all every night as I will with anything I pour myself into.”

Masego Delivers His New Self-Titled Album Ahead of Worldwide Tour

Masego Delivers His New Self-Titled Album Ahead of Worldwide Tour

Masego has dropped his new self-titled album via EQT Recordings and Capitol Records.

The new album is his second, bringing a fusion of jazz, hip-hop, and R&B ahead of his upcoming worldwide You Never Visit Me Tour that launches on March 12.

“I’m very thankful of the journey. This went from a hobby to a job,” says Masego. “I was getting all the things that they say that you’re supposed to be fulfilled by and I wasn’t fulfilled by it. I had to do a re-evaluation of a lot of things. I said, ‘I can’t make this what I imagined it to be. So I cannot remain here. I need to move.’”

Masego teamed with Kelvin Wootan, Louie Lastic, Richie Souf, Monte Booker, WaveIQ and Rocaine for the album. You can tap into the full album and the video for the single “Two Sides (I’m So Gemini)” below.

Masego Shows Off His “Two Sides” On Latest Single: Listen

As he gears up to head out on tour later this spring, Masego is generating excitement amongst his fans with new music. In December, he made a noteworthy return with “You Never Visit Me.” Prior to that, we heard his voice shine on “Say You Want Me. The latter is due to appear on his forthcoming album.

On Friday (February 10), the 29-year-old chiefly caught our attention with his “Two Sides” single. The short and sweet song was produced by Albert Hype and his pal BASSCHARITY. While speaking with Rated R&B, Masego previously revealed the main inspiration for his latest release.

“I love games. Do I ever. ‘Two Sides’ make the next person that is involved with me aware of the demons that I’m trying to fight,” the Jamaica native said. “Geminis have a bad rep. And I was letting her know that I have the potential to move in this manner because of my past and hurt.”

Masego then went on, “There’s no silver lining in this song. It’s just like, ‘I could be a bad guy. I could get what I want with my slick words and my seductive beguiling ways.’”

“Two Sides” marks the singer’s first release of 2023, and sets the tone for his upcoming tour, kicking off in March. According to a press release, this isn’t all we’ll be hearing from the “Tadow” hitmaker over the next few weeks. More tunes are set to come as Masego prepares for his sophomore album, dropping via EQT Recordings and Capitol Records later this year.

Stream Masego’s “Two Sides” on Spotify or Apple Music below. Afterward, revisit his last release, “You Never Visit Me,” here. Finally, check back later for more song recommendations on our Fire Emoji playlist.

Quotable Lyrics:

Flavour of love feels like bit of a clementine
Give me the fruit, my diet is alkaline
Think of the light as lime
Only need fifteen minutes of role-play time

[WATCH] Masego Hits Brazil for “You Never Visit Me” Video

You Never Visit Me

Masego goes international for the video to his new hit single “You Never Visit Me.”

The new video takes Masego over to Brazil, where film director Malison Soares records a tropical environment, capturing the coastline. In the beautiful scene, Masego dines with fans, rides motorcycles, and even gets the party going.

With all the fun times to be had on the tropical escape, Masego is still missing bae, performing with the Brazilian band Afrocidade.

A North American tour was announced by Masego, and it will begin on March 13, 2023, at The Observatory in Santa Ana, California. The You Never Visit Me Tour, which will feature performances at Terminal 5 in New York City on April 1 and The Wiltern in Los Angeles on April 27, is named after Masego’s upcoming single, which will be released on Dec. 12.

Tickets are currently available.

Masego began a multi-year headline tour after the release of his debut album, Lady Lady, during which he sold out venues and performed at festivals on all continents except Antarctica. His critically acclaimed EP Studying Abroad: Extended Stay, which received a GRAMMY® nomination for Best Progressive R&B Album, is now on tour in Europe. The Sydney Opera House hosted a performance during the tour’s sold-out Australian leg. In his career thus far, he has accumulated approximately two billion global streams combined.
