Beyoncé Finally Shared ‘Grown Woman’ On Streaming, 10 Years After The Release Of Her Game-Changing Self-Titled Album

Beyoncé is celebrating her game-changing self-titled fifth studio album today (December 13). 10 years ago, Bey released Beyoncé to iTunes, without warning, or any prior promotion. The album boasted 14 tracks, and a music video for each of the songs, plus three additional music videos. One of these videos was for “Grown Woman,” a Timbaland-produced track that didn’t appear on the tracklist for the audio portion of the album.

To celebrate 10 years of Beyoncé, the artist has finally put “Grown Woman” on streaming platforms.

In 2013, Beyoncé had begun teasing the album over the course of 11 months before its official arrival. The song was first previewed in a Pepsi commercial which premiered in April of 2013. Powered by African-influenced drums and Bey’s empowered vocals, “Grown Woman” was a fan favorite even before Beyoncé‘s official release. The chrous, on which Bey declares “I’m a grown woman / I can do whatever I want,” rang in a new era, at a time when fans weren’t sure what was to come.

The song’s accompanying music video featured clips from Bey’s home movie collection, juxtaposed with images of an adult Beyoncé maintaining her energetic spirit, as she knows she’ll be slaying the game for many more years.

You can listen to “Grown Woman” above.

Playboi Carti Captured The Attention Of The Mainstream With “Magnolia”

Playboi Carti is one of the biggest artists in hip-hop right now. However, his rise to fame has been counter to what you would expect. For instance, his last project Whole Lotta Red was completely panned upon its release. There were a ton of fans who absolutely hated it due to its punk and metal aesthetic. Although, many eventually came around on the project’s sound. It also didn’t help that this project was a follow-up to 2018’s Die Lit which had some of Carti’s best work of his entire career.

When we talk about Playboi Carti, however, it is important to talk about his self-titled mixtape from 2017. This album came out on the same day as Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. Moreover, it featured some truly incredible songs. One of which was the Lil Uzi Vert-assisted “wokeuplikethis.” If you remember that era, you probably understand that “Magnolia” was the biggest hit from the project. I mean, who could forget the infamous Pi’erre Bourne “hey Pierre you wanna come out here” drop at the start of the song?

Playboi Carti Snapped With “Magnolia”

This song was a moment when it was released. Of course, oldheads were confused by this song thanks to the complete lack of lyricism here. Instead, Carti simply focused on flow and putting words together that sounded fun and melodic. The production was hypnotic, and his voice helped create this soundscape that was previously unheard of. Six years later, and every new artist is trying to do a bastardized version of what Carti has been doing this while time.

While Playboi Carti has grown passed “Magnolia,” it is still important to bring attention to songs like this. It is a huge part of Carti’s legacy, and in some ways, he helped change the direction of the genre. Let us know what you think of this track, in the comments section below. Quotable Lyrics:

In New York I Milly Rock (rock)
Hide it in my sock (sock)
Running from the opp (opp)
And I shoot at opp (opp) uh, uh (what?)
And I’m on the block (what?) Uh, uh (what? What?)
And I’m on the block (what?)

Masego’s “What You Wanna Try” Emerges As A Fan Favourite On His Self-Titled Album

With the summer months quickly coming up around the corner, Masego is doing his part to set the vibe on his self-titled album. The project arrived this New Music Friday (March 3), and consists of 14 featureless tracks. Among them are previously released singles like “You Never Visit Me,” “Say You Want Me,” and “Two Sides (I’m So Gemini).”

Of the 11 newer arrivals on the tracklist, one title has already emerged as an obvious fan favourite – “What You Wanna Try.” Earning nearly 100K streams on Spotify alone in its first weekend out, the groovy tune was produced by Dan Foster, Louie Lastic, and Masego himself. “I’m in Detroit with Khadijah / Fighting feelings, rollin’ weed, yeah,” he chiefly sets the scene as the first verse begins.

Masego Shines on “What You Wanna Try”

“Is you tryna stay on the ride? / Or is you tryna, is you tryna leave the vibe?” the “Tadow” hitmaker later asks on the chorus. “Is you tryna fall for the night? Or is you tryna, is tryna fall for life? / City full of pеople, you got options, right? / Baskin’ Robins, baby, what you wanna try?” he cleverly continues, name-dropping the beloved ice creamery while trying to discern his love interest’s preferences.

Now that Masego has finally landed, the recording artist will have plenty of new arrivals to perform for fans on his upcoming tour. Later this month, the 29-year-old will be kicking things of in Las Vegas before moving on to stages in San Francisco, Vancouver, Detroit, Toronto, New York, and more. His final stop will be in Los Angeles at the end of April before heading overseas to sing at Brixton’s Cross the Tracks Festival in May.
