Lizzo Was Forced To Cancel Her Montreal Concert At The Last Minute Due To Health Concerns

Lizzo’s hectic schedule appears to be taking a toll on her health. In the past weeks alone, the “Special” singer has fiercely hit the road as part of her 2Special North American Tour, took the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival stage, attended and performed at the 2023 Met Gala. However, yesterday (May 4), the recording artist could not grace the Bell Centre stage in Montreal Canada, for her scheduled concert due to health concerns.

Initially, the news of Lizzo’s flu-like symptoms was shared on Twitter. However, her profile is now private. So, in a video shared on the musician’s official Instagram, she recorded a message for fans confirming that she would not take the stage. As the recording artist wrapped in bed with a face mask on, Lizzo provided an update on her condition with the video captioned, “Montreal, I’m so sorry, but I physically cannot do the show. I promise we will honor your tickets.”

“I had a sore throat last night and a headache and went to bed,” she continued. “I woke up this morning, and my body is weak, and I have chills, and my head hurts. Normally, if it’s just a cold, I’d shower, I’d eat, take some medicine, and it gets better. But this is getting worse.”

Lizzon went on to say, “I think it’s the flu, and I have to make the unfortunate decision to cancel today. I want to find a date to reschedule, but I just can’t perform tonight.”

The singer closed by saying, “This is the second time I’ve ever had to cancel due to health in my entire career, and I will make it up to you, Montreal. I’m so sorry.”

As Complex notes, the cancellation came just an hour before the show was set to start.

Fans flooded the video’s comment section with well wishes. One fan pointed out that she and others should practice mindfulness regarding their health, writing, “We’re still in a pandemic. Covid is brutal. I encourage people to continue to mask up in crowded areas and, especially for, immune-compromised, chronically ill, marginalized, disabled people. If you really don’t care about us – be selfish and do it for yourself. It’s disabling. I hope you get better soon, Lizzo – well wishes on recovery and nothing else.”

Lizzo’s next scheduled tour stop is slated for tomorrow (May 6) at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut. There hasn’t yet been any sort of announcement regarding possible changes to that show.

Lizzo’s Surprise Performance At The 2023 Met Gala Included Mozart And A Duet With An Esteemed Flute Player

There was a ton of musical firepower at yesterday’s (May 1) 2023 Met Gala, but it was Lizzo who actually let her musicality shine through by giving a surprise performance at the Temple Of Dendur.

Vogue described the set, “Opening with an interlude from Mozart’s The Magic Flute — because what is a Lizzo show without her trusty flute? — she moved on to an instrumental [version] of ‘Truth Hurts’ and high-energy renditions of ‘Cuz I Love You’ and ‘Good As Hell.’ Then, it was a spirited duet of ‘Flight Of The Bumble Bee’ with the esteemed Irish flute player Sir James Galway — and, to close out the night, performances of ‘Juice’ and ‘About Damn Time.’”

Some video clips of the show have surfaced:

As for Lizzo’s red-carpet look, People notes, “For the Karl Lagerfeld theme of the night, the 35-year-old singer chose Chanel, arriving in a custom black silk crêpe dress with a glass pearls harness, inspired by a look from the 1991/92 ready-to-wear collection. She finished her ensemble with Chanel accessories, shoes and purse and even Chanel makeup. She finished her look with a curly updo.”

Lizzo All Smiles As She Attends Pre-Met Gala Dinner

Lizzo is in New York City, and she pulled up to Anna Wintour’s place last night for a pre-Met Gala dinner. The singer was snapped by paparazzi heading into the Vogue editor-in-chief’s home. In the photos, Lizzo is all smiles in a beautiful purple ensemble. She was flanked by assistants carrying umbrellas to shield her from the torrential downpour that was taking place at the time. It hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s expected that Lizzo will attend the Met Gala once again this year. She filled her fans in on how unglamorous fashion’s biggest night really is, at least to her … first complaining about the “long f***ing line” she had to wait in. She added there was no place to sit, either — saying “B***h? Can we get some chairs or some drinks or some hors d’oeuvres?”

Despite appearing happy and excited, Lizzo may have been mentally preparing herself for the wrath of Anna Wintour. Last May, the “Truth Hurts” singer took to Instagram Live to express her disappointment in the 2022 Met Gala. There, she criticized various aspects such as the alcohol options and photographers. Lizzo was allegedly supposed to perform a flute solo on the red carpet, but she only played part of it. According to her, it was because of paparazzi heckling. Lizzo’s frustrations continued when she finally made it inside, where a waiter informed her that only red or white wine was available, causing her to become even more agitated while searching for tequila.

Lizzo’s Luxurious Limo Pics

Lizzo posted some pictures from last night on her Instagram, as well. In the photos, she lounges in a limousine with her beau. Making use of various poses, the singer took advantage of the sexy setting and styling. Purple is definitely Lizzo’s color. The pop star looked positively radiant in her long gown and sunglasses. She captioned the post with the words “icons don’t sleep.”

Fans flooded the comment section on Lizzo’s Instagram post with support and love. “You definitely slaying in this purple mama,” one user said. “Prince would be proud.” More chimed in to point out how good the color looked on her, as well. “That purple on you >>>>>” another said. Others simply thanked Lizzo for being who she was. “You are so beautiful and inspiring!” one fan said. “Thank you for helping with my daughter without even knowing it!” For now, it looks like Lizzo is all smiles about tonight’s Met Gala. Let’s hope it’s better than last year for her! What do you think of Lizzo’s purple look? Let us know in the comments!

Lizzo Addressed The Drag Ban Law In Tennessee During Her Knoxville Concert: ‘Why Would I Not Create A Safe Space’

Lizzo has gone on record to praise the band Nickelback as she felt that, in her words, “They get way too much sh*t” from the public. But, there’s another group of people the “Special” singer is throwing her support behind for the same reason. She addressed the state’s drag ban during the Emmy Award winner’s recent tour stop in Knoxville, Tennessee.

In the clip uploaded to the musician’s Twitter page, Lizzo can be heard saying, “In light of recent and tragic events — recurring events, I was told by people on the internet, ‘Cancel your shows in Tennessee’ and ‘Don’t go to Tennessee,’” to which the audience began to b. The singer stopped them by adding, “You don’t have to boo them. Their reasons were valid.”

The entertainer continued, “Why would I not come to the people that need to hear this message the most? The people that need to feel this release the most. Why would I not create a safe space in Tennessee where we can celebrate drag entertainers and celebrate our differences? And celebrate fat Black women.”

As an avid for the queer community and frequent guest judge on the drag competition show RuPaul’s Drag Race, Lizzo has used her platform to shine a light on causes that have impacted the LGBTQIA+ community for years. Recently, Lizzo’s company Yitty announced they would launch a line of gender-affirming shapewear.

“What people are doing in Tennessee is giving hope. So, thank you so much for standing up for your rights, protecting each other, and holding the people accountable who should be protecting us.”

Her advocacy didn’t stop there. Lizzo also invited several drag performers to join her onstage as she declared, “Support drag entertainers.”

Lizzo Defies Tennessee Anti-Drag Law At Tour Stop

Signed into law on March 2, Tennessee Senate Bill 3 bans “topless dancers, go-go dancers, exotic dancers, strippers, male or female impersonators in presence of minors.” Touted as a “child protection” bill, it is one of the dozens filed across multiple states. It is part of a wider trend of the hundreds of bills that target the LQBTQ+ community in the United States. Furthermore, SB3 shields itself from criticism by grouping drag performers in with adult entertainment acts. By putting “male and female impersonators” alongside “strippers”, it sets the tone for the bill’s perspective.

While the legislation was temporarily blocked by a federal judge, citing first amendment concerns, it looms large in Tennessee. Enter Lizzo, a loud and proud LGBTQ+ ally. Lizzo, since gaining her international stardom, has never been afraid to support the queer community. “It means so much because the LGBTQ community has embraced me as one of their own,” she told The Gay Times. Recently, the beloved singer took on the repressive legislation in her own way during a recent concert in the state.

Lizzo Welcomes Drag Queens On Stage

Lizzo is currently on the second leg of her Special 2our, which kicked off at the Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville. At the climax of the show, Lizzo invited multiple drag queens onto the stage to perform alongside her. It was a bold and brazen act of defiance against the legislation, which currently sits in legal limbo. The queens are all local to Tennessee, according to reports. The on-stage moment showcases the thriving scene present in the state despite the ban.

Posting to social media, Lizzo shared the moment with her fans. “THANK YOU TO THESE BEAUTIFUL DRAG QUEENS FOR SHOWING THEIR PRIDE IN TENNESSEE” she captioned the clip, along with a rainbow of hearts. The replies were filled with heartfelt messages from fans and queens alike, overwhelmed by Lizzo’s actions. Lizzo is set to perform again in Tennessee on Monday, taking to the stage at the FedEx Forum in Memphis. Lizzo also has upcoming shows in Missouri and Louisiana. Missouri is attempting to pass a law that would “criminalize engaging, organizing, or authorizing the viewing of an adult cabaret performance on public property.” Louisiana has not yet seen anti-drag legislation but it could occur in the conservative-leaning state.
