Drake is a very impressive and beloved live performer, as his vocal prowess and versatility can make him float engagingly over any backing track one of his shows, sets, or tour stops throws at him. But we haven’t seen the 6ix God perform much in a live band setting, which pairs very well with his more soulful and lush production choices. Well, it seems like this match made in heaven might become a more frequent reality, as fans jumped to all sorts of conclusions after a clip emerged online of him performing “Pipe Down” with a live band. The Certified Lover Boy cut sounds all the more beautiful with live bass and summery guitar licks, and many fans on Twitter and in the replies of the post below hope that there’s more live instrumentation to come.

Of course, it’s not like this is Drake’s first time performing with a live band, but it’s certainly not the norm nor a common practice across his performance history. What fans really want to know is whether or not this indicates any sort of plans for the future when it comes to either new music or new concerts. For example, his recently teased collab album with PARTYNEXTDOOR might have more live elements to it, and a potential joint tour could have a backing band follow them through. This is all just speculative at the moment, but the assessment still stands: the Toronto superstar sounds great with some killer musicians alongside him.

Speaking of Drake and performances, some fans also speculated recently that a former friend and close collaborator of Aubrey Graham’s is missing him onstage. Future and Metro Boomin recently kicked off their tour, and his performance of the Drizzy-assisted smash hit “WAIT FOR U” prompted a lot of theories. Some just commented on the performance itself, but others thought that Pluto was particularly emotional during the rendition. While select fans pointed to romantic issues as the reason, others thought that he might’ve been reflecting on how, at least right now, he doesn’t live in a world in which he can perform that song with Drake again because of the rap beef that exploded earlier this year.

On that note, we’re sure you don’t need much of a refresher. But the pettiness still lives on in the Kendrick Lamar and Drake battle, with Mustard attacking The Boy and Gordo for allegedly trying to sabotage the release of his album. That’s all just combative speculation, though, and we doubt that the beef will truly reignite with a burning ire anytime soon. But if it does… a live band would sound pretty good on a diss track, no?

Perhaps those were just K-Dot fans saying such things, but nevertheless, those comments were prevalent. That was even the case after the fact, as everything Drake was doing was getting torn apart. His musical output is probably the thing that most were drawing attention to. His features on Sexyy Red’s “U My Everything” and Snowd4y’s “Wah Gwan Delilah” are maybe the worst representations of the Canadian superstar’s artistry over the last decade. However, Kendrick fans and hater alike may want to reconsider those previous claims after Drake’s appearance at PARTYNEXTDOOR’s recent show.

The Boy shared a post on his Instagram account just hours ago from the PND tour stop in Toronto, captioning it, “Emotions running high 😮‍💨”. He included the moment right after he was brought onstage after the lights kicked back on. The fans were shocked, as Drizzy was a surprise guest. All you can hear in the video is the deafening shrieks and screams from the concertgoers, shutting down any claims that he is down and out after the Kendrick affair.

Travis Scott and Ice Spice are two of the biggest stars in hip-hop right now, so it’s only natural that they would eventually collaborate. Moreover, La Flame brought out the Bronx femcee at his London concert and previewed a new song, which sounds like a straightforward trap banger with a nice drill switch to shift the energy a little more. Specifically, fans wonder whether or not he will appear on her soon-to-come Y2K album, the details of which are still pretty vague at press time. While we’re sure a feature from the Houston MC would really fire things up even more, a solo single would probably do the trick just as well.

However, that’s not the only feature that Ice Spice is potentially teasing for Y2K, and the other recent example is a bit spicier. As opposed to Travis Scott and their innocuous collab, she actually sparked dating rumors with Central Cee before it became clear that they have a song together coming out soon. While we don’t know if this will actually land on the new album, it’s certainly a great move for a lead single or even a throwaway just to hype things up. Speaking of team-ups, Travis Scott and Quavo might revive their Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho collab album for a sequel. We’re sure that they have so many unreleased collaborations in the vault that this could just be a plug-and-play, but it would also be amazing to hear Huncho step into UTOPIA. Let’s use our imagination real quick: it’s 2060, your grandchild just took his first steps, and Playboi Carti finally released the follow-up album to Whole Lotta Red. While many fans hope that we get this new project in 2024 after relentless teases and promises, this future fantasy is the more likely outcome at this point. But that doesn’t mean that we won’t wait patiently as long as he keeps engaging with fans, as he recently did in electric fashion at Rolling Loud Vienna over the weekend. On Opium’s Instagram page (or Carti’s finsta, maybe? A promo account? Who knows?), a new picture appeared of the Atlanta rapper at the festival, and it’s the clearest photo we’ve gotten of him in quite a while.

Furthermore, delusional fans online (don’t worry, so are we) hope that this suggests the album is coming very soon, and that these new performances will fuel something greater. What’s more is that producer Cardo recently spoke on “finishing up” Playboi Carti’s new album very recently, adding fuel to that fire. “I don’t know, man, it’s been going crazy. That’s all I know… In a good way. It’s been crazy fun,” he expressed in a new video.

In addition to all this, it’s not like Playboi Carti stopped giving us song snippets previewing his work, as the most recent of these landed just a couple of weeks ago. So no one really knows what’s going on with this new album or why it hasn’t dropped yet, whether because he’s a perfectionist, leaks, label issues, and all those other speculative coping mechanisms. The hitmaker had a segment at the Vegandale Festival to attend to and what better way to go about it than to pay homage to a Chicago legend. NLE has shown that he has a lot of love for the late superstar in the making in the past, so this comes as no surprise. Choppa reached out to Von’s nephew, GrandBabii, and asked him to help out with his show. According to him, he told GrandBabii that he needed to show out for his uncle and he was in, although for being so young the nerves were real.

The-Dream is a living legend. Throughout his illustrious career, the Atlanta, Georgia singer and songwriter has accomplished so many things. From helping pen some of the biggest hits in R&B and rap history, to providing his trademark tenor vocals for other artists, he has done it all. However, some days you are not going to bring your best stuff as a musician. It happens to even the best of the best, and for The-Dream, it took place earlier this month. Footage from the Roots Picnic — an annual music festival held in Philadelphia– has just surfaced. The two-day event saw artists like Lil Wayne, The Roots, Smino, Sexyy Red, Andre 3000, and The-Dream all show up for the 16th installment.

It looks to be taken by an audience member while the veteran was onstage. Right away, The-Dream’s vocals seemed to be off-note or off-pitch, and the crowd immediately reacted with secondhand embarrassment. Perhaps the funniest moment of the whole video happens when the camera turns toward the fan recording the questionable performance. All she can do is look absolutely confused and taken aback.

When you hear “performance,” you would assume that it’s an artist doing whatever they did in their music in a live setting, but Kanye West might be the biggest artist alive who’s actively challenging that definition. Moreover, a clip recently surfaced of him “performing” at a Japanese pro wrestling event, although he was just in the ring miming “CARNIVAL” to the crowd. Still, we can’t criticize too much; after all, seeing Ye (even with his currently misguided and tarnished public-facing persona) is seeing Ye. Some other reports on the matter suggest that Alexander Wang organized this event over the weekend with Joshi promotion TJPW and that Ty Dolla $ign was in attendance, as well.

Furthermore, this was a bizarre thing for folks to witness online with no context, but it seems like folks had a great time nonetheless. Of course, Kanye West has a lot to deal with whenever he returns to the United States, although he’s probably handling that wherever he goes. A former Yeezy employee recently sued him for alleged sexual harassment, and other allegations emerged about his supposed misconduct. It included a lot of salacious claims accusing Ye of making non-consensual sexual advances and sending inappropriate texts and images.

Kanye West Graces Japan With A Pro Wrestling Event Appearance

As far as the music side of things, Kanye West is in some hot water right now for much more light, but almost equally disseminated reasons. There was a particularly bad “sexist” bar somewhere in there that was a hot topic on sites like Twitter for a second. But just like with most of the Chicago artist’s many antics, folks quickly moved onto something else.

Meanwhile, we still have very little idea of how the aforementioned sexual harassment lawsuit will develop. Kanye West plans to countersue the former Yeezy employee and denied any and all wrongdoing via his legal team. As such, maybe this could turn into a nasty court battle or they will reach a private settlement. Either way, it’s a blemish on an already chaotic 2024 with as many highs as lows in many fans’ eyes.
