Lil Nas X Refutes (Jokingly, Perhaps) A Fan’s Heartwarming Story About Meeting Him At The 2022 VMAs

Lil Nas X had a big night at the 2022 MTV VMAs this past weekend as he walked away with some awards. His evening apparently also included a chance encounter with a fan, who excitedly shared their story online.

The post, titled “Just met Lil Nas X” and shared to the r/offmychest subreddit, racked up over 9,700 upvotes before it was deleted by the user who posted it (potentially a sign that they fabricated the story and removed it after it got more attention than expected). Nas shared a Pop Crave tweet about the post and added, “this is not true. i am very mean in person. i once slapped a fan for singing the lyrics to industry baby wrong.”

The parts about Nas being “very mean and person” and slapping a fan are clearly jokes, although it’s possible he is actually denying the story, despite the goofing around. Even if the encounter did really happen (which, again, is up in the air), the rapper may not have remembered it anyway, as he was “drunk af” at the show and only realized the next day that he won three awards.

“It’s my birthday, I work low level in the entertainment industry. I was able to secure sh*tty tickets to the VMAs to see Nicki Minaj. I headed out after she performed because long drive home.

The elevator attendant at Prudential Center accidentally let me off on some kind of high security floor. Lil Nas X appeared out of nowhere as I was trying to find the exit. I’m a shy person so it took a lot for me to approach him and I didn’t want to be annoying but it’s my birthday and this opportunity seemed once in a lifetime, so I did.

I said (awkwardly) ‘Montero?’ He said ‘yeesss?’ I said ‘I’m not supposed to be here I’m sorry but can I get a picture with you?’ He said laughingly ‘yes but tell me I look classy’ (he was in his VMA outfit). I did obviously and he was so nice and posed and then suggested we change lighting so the pics would be better. It was really nice. We took a bunch of cute pics.

I’m an unpaid intern and meet a lot of assholes in this industry. It was really nice to meet someone I admire and find out they’re a genuinely nice person. That’s all!!!”

Lil Nas X Was ‘Drunk AF’ At The 2022 VMAs And Only ‘Just Realized’ He Won Awards The Morning After

Lil Nas X had a terrific night at the 2022 MTV VMAs yesterday, as he had seven nominations (tied with Jack Harlow and Kendrick Lamar for the most) and ended the show with three wins. By his own admission, the rapper apparently only processed those victories this morning, though, thanks to a number of drinks he enjoyed last night.

Sharing some photos of himself holding his trophies, Nas wrote on Twitter today, “i was drunk af last night ngl just realized i won 3 thank u vmas [crying emoji] [hearts emoji].”

Despite his state, he seemed pretty coherent alongside Jack Harlow as they accepted their Best Collaboration award for “Industry Baby,” especially considering that acceptance speeches are often a moment when excited artists are at their most flustered.

Meanwhile, he recently noted he has some stuff for fans to look forward to, saying, “I have some unexpected things, collaborations coming up. I wouldn’t want to ruin those, though. […] I do have something very special coming really soon around the time of my tour starting. That’s something I’m super excited about music-wise.” As for that tour, he noted, “Without giving it away, all I can say is it’s more of a show than it is a concert.”

Lil Nas X Has Some ‘Unexpected’ Collabs On The Way And Teases ‘Something Very Special Coming Really Soon’

Lil Nas X always has something going on and now he can add another item to the list: He’s the new US ambassador of high-end beauty brand Yves Saint Laurent Beauté. Nas spoke about that in a new interview with Complex, during which he also teased some other things he has coming up.

For one, his new ambassadorship isn’t his only new collab, as the rapper noted, “I have some unexpected things, collaborations coming up. I wouldn’t want to ruin those, though.” He also said, “I do have something very special coming really soon around the time of my tour starting. That’s something I’m super excited about music-wise.”

As for that tour, he described it, “Without giving it away, all I can say is it’s more of a show than it is a concert.”

When it comes to what he hopes fans get from his upcoming music, he’s not quite sure yet: “I wish I could say, but I feel like I won’t even know what this era represents until I’m further along. I’m very much a person that just goes along with the flow and does things as they come. But I’m sure it’s going to be something really special and really exciting.”

He also talked about the new partnership, saying, “Building my brand is an ongoing process as I continue to try new things, but I’m all about having fun, standing out and making a statement, and creating great music. Everything I do is an extension of that, and I’m always looking for ways to break the mold — this partnership with YSL Beauty does that. I thought they were pretty cool and I loved the aesthetic that they were bringing. So I was like, ‘Yeah. Let’s do it.’”

Lil Nas X Is Pumped About ‘Old Town Road’ Hitting 1 Billion YouTube Views, His First Video To Do So

For Lil Nas X, it all started with “Old Town Road,” his earth-shattering 2019 hit. Now, the song’s classic music video has entered rare territory, having just reached 1 billion views on YouTube (it’s at exactly 1,000,153,128 as of this post). According to data from kworb.net, the clip is just the 322nd music video to ever top a billion plays on the platform.

Nas had a celebratory reaction to the news, tweeting a photo of a woman at a party with a shirt reading “Old B*tches Winning” and writing, “WE DID IT!”

The official video isn’t the only “Old Town Road” clip with a high view count: The “Official Movie” has about 648 million plays and the audio of the Billy Ray Cyrus remix has about 580 million views of its own. In total, all the “Old Town Road” videos on Lil Nas X’s YouTube channel have about 2.4 billion views.

Just how uncommon is it for a music video to hit a billion views on YouTube? Well, let’s look at some data (which may not be completely accurate but is good enough for the purposes of this thought exercise). Per a July post from Earthweb, there are about 800 million total videos on YouTube. In 2019, Digital Music News noted that videos in the music category made up 5 percent of total YouTube videos in 2018. 5 percent of 800 million is 40 million. Not all of those 40 million are music videos, though, so let’s say (based on absolutely nothing) that just 1 percent of those 40 million videos are music videos, so 400,000. Of those, only 322 have hit a billion views, which is about 0.08 percent (or 8 percent of 1 percent).

Boosie Badazz Says NBA Youngboy Shouldn’t Have Collaborated with Lil Nas X: “We Represent a Certain Group”

Boosie Badazz Says NBA Youngboy Shouldn't Have Collaborated with Lil Nas X: "We Represent a Certain Group"

In July, the first official collaboration between Lil Nas X and NBA Youngboy happened in “Late To Da Party (F*CK BET).” The single also obviously served as a diss toward BET after Nas X didn’t receive any BET Award nominations.

Returning to Vlad TV to get everything off his chest for this month, Boosie Badazz states he was not a fan of Youngboy hopping on the track with Lil Nas.

“If ever see YoungBoy, I’ll tell him how I feel about that,” Boosie said. “I thought YoungBoy was like me. We represent a certain group of people and what we do affect those people. That’s why I always try to stay a hundred. I thought he was like me in a certain, a lot of ways. I don’t want to talk about it on camera how I feel about it, but if I ever see him, I’ll tell him how I feel.”

The relationship between Boosie and Youngboy has been a bit fragile lately, so it may not be best if he approaches the rapper about the single.

Boosie Badazz was one of many dissed by NBA Youngboy on his “I Hate YoungBoy” single. “Feel like Boosie don’t even like me, bitch, don’t call my phone, fuck you,” the young Louisiana star rapped. Once again sitting with DJ Vlad, Boosie revealed why he did not reach out to Youngboy and dissed him on a song instead.

“Because I don’t wanna kill him,” Boosie said. “So, I just wanted to say what I had to say. I ain’t really promote the song. I just wanted to say what I had to say. I just felt like, I’ll say what I had to say over the mic and that’s it, you know? Like I said, my first and last time speaking on it. I was gon’ say what I had to say, and that’s it.”

In October 2021, Boosie had beef with Lil Nas X and went on a full-on attack of Lil Nas X in a homophobic rant and suggested Lil Nas commit suicide.

“STOP TROLLING ME F—– LOL!! U A WHOLE B—- PLAYING WITH A GANGSTA SMH U CAN KEEP SUCKING D— N GETTIN F—ED N YOUR A– N PEACE N #uhateyourself I WOULD TOO IF I WAS YOU LOL NASx IF YOU #commitsuicide YOU WOULD DO THIS WORLD A HUGE FAVOR NOBODY WANTS U HERE,” Badazz tweeted.

Among those who saw Boosie’s words online was Lil Nas X’s father, Robert Stafford, who had words of his own for the “Wipe Me Down” rapper.

“How the hell you’re a gangsta rapper promoting drugs, gun violence, degrading women and getting high every video talking about you’re for the kids man sit your old man looking ass down,” Stafford wrote on his Instagram story.

Lil Nas X Had An Exuberant Reaction To Beyonce’s New Album, ‘Renaissance’

The reviews of Beyonce’s brand new album Renaissance are rolling in. Listeners are raving about the sequencing; singer Kelis is upset about having been sampled without knowing. Now Lil Nas X has shared a humorous take on the album.

The “Industry Baby” rapper wrote, “this beyonce album so c*nty hunty i’m finna slay the boots chew chew chew vogue pussy pussy kitty kitty kat!”

That’s all he offered, but that’s enough! It’s definitely a compliment, and many are agreeing.

Lil Nas X is known for being quite the Twitter personality. He’s not afraid to share his opinions; recently, he replied to a fan who said that he milked the success of “Old Town Road” for a while by offering remixes. “i don’t wanna milk any of my songs like that again. it takes the fun out of creating new things,” he stated.

He also used Twitter to discuss receiving no nominations from the BET Awards. “Thank you bet awards,” he wrote in a now-deleted tweet. “An outstanding zero nominations again. black excellence!” He added afterwards, “I just feel like black gay ppl have to fight to be seen in this world,” he said in another deleted tweet, “and even when we make it to the top mfs try to pretend we are invisible.”

Lil Nas X Never Wants To ‘Milk’ A Song Like He Did ‘Old Town Road’ Again

For Lil Nas X, it memorably all started a few years ago with “Old Town Road.” The rapper really knew how to keep that song alive, too, as it was the No. 1 song in the country for a record 19 weeks. It was the biggest song in the world for a long time, but now Nas says he never again wants to “milk” a song of his like he did that one.

Last night, a Nas fan got on Twitter and asked for “unpopular” opinions about the rapper. Somebody responded, “i hate how fast the eras go like.. [‘Old Town Road’] was the only era i felt lasted a good amount of time. [‘Call Me By Your Name’] had potential to be so much bigger than what it was and longer at #1 if the era was longer.. same with montero.”

Nas responded to that tweet, writing, “how long did u expect [‘Call Me By Your Name’] era to be?” They replied, “u should’ve milked it like [‘Old Town Road’] idkkk hella remixes.. the song was HUGE but could’ve been bigger me thinks.” Nas answered, “i don’t wanna milk any of my songs like that again. it takes the fun out of creating new things.”

Nas also replied to other responses from the unpopular opinions prompt. One user wrote, “a lot of fans skew their opinions based on what the man himself thinks!” Nas replied, “it be the opposite way around too,” then clarified, “like i can love something then realize everybody else hate it then fall out of love with it sadly.”

Another user wrote, “He releases too many snippets!” Nas responded, “i’m just really impulsive when i create something.” The commenter added, “I love that. I just want to be surprised when the album comes out!” Nas replied, “i feel u.”
