Stephen Hill Responds To Lenny Kravitz BET Awards Claims

Screen Shot 2023 12 03 at 12.18.03 PM

Last week rocker Lenny Kravitz told Esquire Magazine that he felt slighted by black media outlets. Kravitz complained he has never been invited to the BET Awards and said Black publications don’t celebrate his success.  In defense, former BET program director Stephen Hill quietly denies these accusations in an Instagram post before responding to a fan.

Stephen posted a photo of he and Lenny Kravitz with the caption:

#FlashbackFriday @lennykravitz and ya boy on the set of #106andPark on what I believe was his first, but I KNOW was not last visit to the show. One of my favorite muscians/performers of all time. Loved stretching the mold and programming his music on WILD-AM in the early 90’s, as well. Looking forward to his new music!
Have a great day everybody!

When a fan asked, “But was he invited to the BET Awards?”

Stephen responded, “I respect that question because you don’t know me. Understandable. Anyone that knows, KNOWS. And that’s my answer.😊 Merry Friday.”

Thoughts?

Apparently Nicolas Cage And Lenny Kravitz Once Did A High School Musical Together (???) (!!!)

You don’t hear a lot of stories involving both Nicolas Cage and Lenny Kravitz. Why would you? One’s an Oscar-winning thespian who hates that he’s been memed while the other is Grammy-winning genre-blending musician (who, to be fair, was in a couple Hunger Gameses). Thing is, they actually go way back. They went to Beverly Hills High School. That may not sound too mind-blowing. But this is: They did a high school musical together.

As caught by People, Kravitz sat down for a video chat with Esquire, in which he recalled knowing the young “Nic Coppola,” as Cage went then. (He changed his name for his second movie, 1983’s Valley Girl.) He also remembered doing a production of that old high school musical stalwart Oklahoma! Alas, they weren’t acting together.

“I was in the orchestra and Nic was on stage,” Kravitz recalled. “He was singing and dancing and acting and I was playing drums. It was a good time.”

Who did Cage play in Oklahoma!? Was he strapping lead Curly? Show-off dingbat Will Parker? He would have made a terrifying Jud Fry.

Cage wasn’t the only future famous person Kravitz knew at Beverly Hills High School. “I just saw Slash, who I went to high school with,” Kravitz recalled, though he may have known him under his real name, Saul Hudson. “And Gina Gershon.”

Though Cage and Kravitz have never done a movie together, Cage has worked with his daughter, Zoë, sort of: They both did voices in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. That means they probably never recorded in the same booth, though he might have told her some fun stories about her dad at the premiere.

You can watch Kravitz’s full Esquire sit-down below.

Lenny Kravitz Net Worth 2023: What Is The Music Icon Worth?

It’s not every day you encounter an artist who can seamlessly weave through musical genres, from rock to funk, while leaving a lasting imprint. Lenny Kravitz—musician, actor, and fashion icon—is a living, breathing example of an artist who’s done just that. And as the digits on the calendar flip to 2023, this multi-hyphenate dynamo doesn’t merely flaunt an illustrious career but also a whopping net worth of $100 million, according to Fresherslive.

Lenny Kravitz was born into an eclectic cultural milieu, where his Russian-Jewish father and Bahamian-American mother introduced him to a cornucopia of musical tastes. From an early age, Kravitz displayed an unmistakable affinity for music, shaping his early influences to generate a sound that defied classification. His 1989 debut album Let Love Rule showcased this perfectly—equal parts rock and funk, layered with heartfelt lyricism. A formidable debut that presaged the legend he was to become.

Winning the Grammy for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance four years in a row? Oh, just another day in the life of Lenny Kravitz. From chart-topping singles like “Fly Away” to stellar collaborations with Madonna, Kravitz’s oeuvre represents a compendium of modern musical achievement. Not content to confine himself to a single artistic domain, Kravitz has also dabbled in acting. His role as Cinna in The Hunger Games series gained him critical acclaim and introduced him to an entirely new generation of fans.

Lenny Kravitz’s life isn’t solely composed of roaring crowds and roaring guitars. He’s an individual deeply committed to spiritual growth and philanthropy. A strict vegan, Kravitz takes his health as seriously as his artistry. He’s also keen on architecture and interior design. When he’s not touring or recording, you might find him rejuvenating in his Bahamian retreat, a testament to his love for organic living and sustainable practices. Further, he keeps his private life under wraps, but he was once married to Lisa Bonet. The pair share a famous daughter, Zoe Kravitz.

It would be reductionist to assess Kravitz solely through the prism of his financial worth. Yet, let’s not dismiss the fact that he’s been able to channel his resources into noble ventures. From supporting dental care in the Bahamas to advocating for educational reform, Kravitz couples his affluence with an unquenchable desire to enact social change. So when we consider his net worth of $100 million, understand that it isn’t simply an astronomical figure. It’s an emblem of the unyielding commitment, versatility, and broad-spectrum brilliance that Lenny Kravitz has imparted to the world for over three decades.

Lenny Kravitz’s Viral Big Scarf Returns In His Debut First Day Of Fall TikTok: Watch

Some celebrities have to pay stylists buckets of money to keep them on trend and looking their best, but others, like Lenny Kravitz, have something of an effortless swagger to them. The “American Woman” hitmaker has been landing on mood boards long before many of us were born thanks to his bold, edgy but still bohemian outfits. Over the past decade or so in particular, Kravitz has been going viral when the seasons transition from summer to fall thanks to a massive scarf he was once seen wearing while running errands around the city.

As PEOPLE reports, it was in 2012 when the 59-year-old first broke the internet with his accessory of choice. At the time, he appeared to be drowning beneath the mauve-coloured knit fabric. Several years later, the actor explained what drove him to bundle up so dramatically during an interview with Jimmy Fallon. “I cannot escape this,” Kravitz laughed. “I live in the Bahamas. I’m used to hot weather and I had to go to the store, I was buying some groceries and I thought I’d put on a little scarf to protect my throat, and that’s the scarf I had,” he told the late-night host.

Lenny Kravitz’s Iconic And Hilarious Giant Scarf Look Has Returned For His First-Ever TikTok Video

When Lenny Kravitz first sang “All of my life, where have you been? / I wonder if I’ll ever see you again” on his 2000 hit single, “Again,” he was likely referring to a past love. But fans of Kravitz — as well as fans of memes — get to see a familiar favorite again.

Today (September 23), Kravitz made his debut on TikTok, with the legendary scarf. You know, the giant scarf. The scarf that launched a thousand memes.

In his first-ever TikTok, Kravitz is seen walking toward the camera wearing the scarf, saying “Grab your big scarf. It’s the first day of fall.”

Kravitz was first seen photographed wearing the scarf back in 2012, while he was out running errands, as photographed above. However, the size of the scarf spawned many a joke and meme on the internet. Some fans have even photoshopped the picture, growing the scarf larger and larger over time.

He has addressed the memes on several occasions, including a 2020 interview with GQ, in which he said “You look at some of those [images] and it’s just like, ‘Okay guys, the scarf is three times bigger than it really is in this picture, but it was big and it was cold.’”

But thankfully, it seems like he recalls this memory fondly.

You can see a clip on the TikTok above.

Tyrese Tells Ex-Wife She Never Loved Him While Revealing Lenny Kravitz Collab

As others were celebrating the new year, Tyrese and Samantha Gibson were announcing their divorce. It was in December 2020 that the couple revealed they decided to end their marriage. Samantha hasn’t said much about the unraveling of her union after four years of wedded bliss, but Tyrese hasn’t been shy about sharing his emotional state. He has repeatedly taken to social media to express his grief and anger, and it seems that his latest single has him revisiting those emotions.

Ahead of the Valentine’s Day celebrations, Tyrese ended the weekend by uploading a photo of himself and Samantha. There was a tear in the middle of the former couple, and in the caption, the actor promoted new music while also seemingly calling out his ex-wife. “The struggle is real. I definitely wasn’t ready to be in music or an album mode again,” said Tyrese. However, months ago, he went into detail about working on his new album.

In his caption, Tyrese further stated, “I’m still shook and shocked about this unexpected divorce so I’m not on stage yet. I’m still in the audience watching this all play out right before my eyes. Trying to process all of this pain and trauma from this unexpected divorce.”

“I almost hate that this is my song, and or my story, but I guess as they would say things happen for a reason.” Tyrese then concluded his post with a direct message to his ex-wife: “Samantha I don’t think you ever loved me… impossible.” This isn’t the first time he’s had words for his ex. Previously, he told her, “God don’t like ugly.

“With more than 65 million followers between them, Kravitz and Anitta are global superstars who are inspiring countless people to go their way and let love rule by keeping animals off their plates,” says PETA Senior Vice President of Communications Lisa Lange.

Source Exclusive: Olivia talks new single and album, music and fashion inspiration, and mental health

Olivia

Olivia may be one of the “First Ladies of hip-hop,” but in the span of almost two decades, she’s proven to have one of the most diverse ranges of talent of females in the industry. This week, she debuted her new single, “No Permission,” off her upcoming album, Under Pressure. Olivia sat down with The Source to talk about her upcoming album, film projects, musical and fashion inspirations, and how she manages her mental health.

The Source: What can fans expect different on this album than past albums?

Olivia: They can expect something totally different because the first album that I did was on J Records- and that’s when I first came out, which was when I was like 21 years old. And then on G-Unit, we didn’t do an album. We just did a bunch of singles and features and everything.  They can clearly hear how much my sound has evolved.

I’m a big Brandy fan, so you get a lot of those tones and we have similar tones, but I always listened to her harmonies and stuff. One of my first favorite songs that I recorded,  she was actually in a session with me because she was married to Bert (Robert ‘Big Bert’ Smith) at the time. She walked in and I was stunned because again, I’m like 22 years old and I’m like, ‘oh my God, Brandy is actually in the session.’

She is really one of my inspirations as far as the R&B side, but everybody knows I love hip-hop, so that’s infused in it as well. I have a lot of different blends in there because I don’t like to stick to one genre, but the album totally follows. You can play every track back to back and you get the same vibe.

The Source: You worked with multiple producers on this album. What do you think each of them brought to the album, in addition to your talents?

Olivia: Well of course everybody brings something different, but I have a particular producer named HV, which stands for high volume. His tracks just catch you when you hear them, like the tracks alone, you can tell those are smashes. So you have to automatically write something that matches the smash that he did. I feel like his tracks make me write even better and I try to make sure that I get producers that can come with the same type of energy, the winning type of mentality in the tracks that I want.

The Source: For sure, setting the bar high. So are there any guest artists on your new album?

Olivia: I’m keeping it a secret. I don’t want it to get out yet until we’re ready for the album [release].

The Source: Ok, so your album is called Under Pressure and May is Mental Health Awareness month. How do you deal with pressure, anxiety, stress, all the things that we all go through?

Olivia: One main thing I try to do since I live in Florida now and we’re close to the beach, I try to take long walks. We go for walks at night too in whichever city or state we’re in. Stuff like that kind of calms you down or relaxes you. I love flowers and sometimes I’ll have flowers in the house. They always bring up your energy. Also, simple things, just like sitting by yourself and with everything off, no TV, no music, just try to relax. You know, it really is the simplest things. It sounds like it’s so hard, but the simple things is what will calm you down and bring down your anxiety.

The Source: Well, you already mentioned Brandy, but who are some other musical artists that have inspired you?

Olivia: Joe is also one of my top favorite male, R&B singers. I had the pleasure of meeting him when I first came out. Also, he was down with my production crew, so he used to teach me his runs and I used to watch him and play the guitar. He’s actually why I tried to start learning to play the guitar. That’s probably why I like Lenny Kravitz. Everybody who knows me knows that I’m a big Lenny fan. My genre is all over the place, but there’s always great music. That’s all that matters- as long as it’s a great artist and they make great music.

The Source: If you could collab with any artist (past present, dead, alive, doesn’t matter), who would it be?

Olivia: One would be obviously Lenny Kravitz and the other one would be Luther Vandross. Some of my fans know this story from when I was signed to J Records. Luther was basically my godfather. He took me on my very first shopping spree when I got signed, he would take me to lunch at the Ivy, like every two weeks. I remember going into the studio with him and he has this long trench coat on with one of those big sweaters. We’re in California and it’s like 80 degrees in the studio and his engineer is sweating and I’m like, “Uncle Lou, why is it so hot in here?” He says, “that’s how I keep my vocals so warm.” And then I started doing it too because I realized that it does open up your vocals so much more. Luther and I used to walk down the street and sing so amazing together and harmonies, and I always wanted to do a record with him if I could.

The Source: In addition to being a talented musical artist, as we all know, you’re also something kind of a fashionista. We’ve seen your Instagram, your nails, and you’ve been featured in several fashion magazines. Who are some of your fashion icons or where do you get your fashion inspiration from?

Olivia: That’s a tough one because I like a lot of different things. Sometimes I like to be a really girly girl and then other times I’m very tomboy. I like color, so if I go for the color types, it’ll probably be Missoni, but if I’m going for like the clean lines and for color, it could be Versace also.

I like simple, but still classic. It’s a plethora of things. It depends on the day or on how you feel like dressing.

In addition to her upcoming album, Olivia also stars in the movie “Better than My Last,” an action-suspense film directed by Shawn Baker that is expected to be released nationwide later this year.

“No Permission” is available on most streaming platforms. More information can be found here: https://unitedmasters.com/m/625daffb4269dc24e93a1165.
