Lauren London Honored Nipsey Hussle In A Touching Post Four Years After His Death

Lauren London paid tribute to her late partner, Nipsey Hussle, on the four-year mark of his passing. The two dated for five years and welcomed a son together before Hussle was shot and killed on March 31, 2019, by Eric Holder, who was sentenced to 60 years to life in prison in February.

London posted a black-and-white portrait of Hussle to Instagram alongside a heartbreaking caption.

“I hold my breath all of March knowing I have to face the memory of the day you transitioned….,” she wrote. “Holding on to ancient wisdom, but the pain is the pain, and nothing was ever the same…Eternal Being Ermias Asghedom, I Love You.”

She also attached a quote from Baha’i about death and a spirit living on, even if it is no longer with us:

“To consider that after the death of the body the spirit perishes is like imagining that a bird in a cage will be destroyed if the cage is broken, though the bird has nothing to fear from the destruction of the cage. Our body is like the cage, and the spirit is like the bird. We see that without the cage this bird flies in the world of sleep; therefore, if the cage becomes broken, the bird will continue and exist. Its feelings will be even more powerful, its perceptions greater, and its happiness increased. In truth, from hell it reaches a paradise of delights because for the thankful birds there is no paradise greater than freedom.”

London has spoken about losing Hussle in the years since he passed.

“I also don’t want to give a misconception that I’m at peace and I’m walking around on a cloud,” London said on the People Every Day podcast back in January, speaking to the struggles of continuing on despite grieving. “I have to wake up with the intention of this every day because there are days I don’t want to, and I’m like angry about it. And that’s what healing is. It is up and down, side to side, all over the place. You know what I mean? And with each new level, there’s something else.”

Lauren London Posts Nipsey Hussle Tribute

Unfortunately, it hasn’t gotten any easier for the hip-hop world or society at large to reckon with Nipsey Hussle’s loss. The Crenshaw rapper remains a symbol of inspiration and admiration for many, and with other tragic losses in the rap community, his murder is a somber but important part of that history. However, that’s not to say his death looms primarily over his impact and life, which are what fans, friends, and family treasure and champion to this day. On the fourth anniversary of his transition, his partner Lauren London shared some potent words of grief, but also love.

“I hold my breath all of March knowing I have to face the memory of the day you transitioned….” she captioned a picture of Nipsey. Holding on to ancient wisdom but the pain is the pain and nothing was ever the same… Eternal Being Ermias Asghedom [his real name] I Love You.” Not only that, but she also included a passage from texts from the Bahá’í faith. Said message reflects, in this case, on the “Racks In The Middle” star’s immeasurable impact and the continuance of his spirit.

Lauren London Reflects On Anniversary Of Nipsey Hussle’s Passing

“‘To consider that after the death of the body the spirit perishes is like imagining that a bird in a cage will be destroyed if the cage is broken, though the bird has nothing to fear from the destruction of the cage,” it reads. “Our body is like the cage, and the spirit is like the bird. We see that without the cage this bird flies in the world of sleep; therefore, if the cage becomes broken, the bird will continue and exist. Its feelings will be even more powerful, its perceptions greater, and its happiness increased. In truth, from hell it reaches a paradise of delights because for the thankful birds there is no paradise greater than freedom.’”

Meanwhile, developments in the murder case surrounding Hussle took hold of the media recently with the news of his murderer Eric Holder being a target in prison. Although many feel passionately and rightfully about the need for justice, many argued that to honor Nip is to continue positive cycles, not negative ones. Recently, his brother said that his children own the Marathon store he opened, creating the generational wealth he aspired to gift his family. With that in mind and other developments, we can remember his legacy for its greatness, not just its tragic end. Regardless, come back to HNHH for the latest news and updates on Lauren London and Nipsey Hussle.

Lauren London & Jonah Hill’s You People, Review

With an opening commentary funnier than a Chris Rock and Kevin Hart show, You People has become a fan favorite for its epic cast of Eddie Murphy, Jonah Hill, Nia Long, Lauren London, and more. Its hilarity is dry and blunt with a hint of irony. You People is not only funny, but has a serious tone as well. The movie, co-produced by Jonah Hill, includes racial inequities of what Black and Muslim cultures face in today’s world.

“I feel like Views Drake. I feel like I’m alone. I don’t have Certified Lover Boy Drake energy right now.”-You People

As a Jewish extrovert, Ezra, played by Jonah Hill who looks “like a dad who lost his kid at Coachella,” opens the movie with his infamous belly-aching acting, yet, somehow better than ever before jokes. He and his friend Mo, played by Sam Jo, banter back and forth. Somehow Drake gets pulled into the conversation, and hey, why not, they already joked about Obama being gay — continue to go back and forth as Ezra says to Mo, “I feel like Views Drake. I feel like I’m alone. I don’t have Certified Lover Boy Drake energy right now. I’m at an Italian restaurant by myself drinking Manischewitz out of a goblet, wondering to myself when is it my turn to feel deep happiness and connection?”

Days later, Ezra jumps into the backseat of a girl’s Uber. Thinking he’s being racially insincere by assuming a young black woman might only be on the road to haul others to their way, begins to yell and beat Ezra in a panic. He smoothly jokes himself out of the situation and finds out, Amira, as played by Lauren London, was lost on her way to work. After the two conclude their back-and-forth arguing, they agree to go on a date together.

Ezra and Amira Share the Same Carefree Spirit

Amira, like Ezra, is a classy, carefree spirit who upon going out with Ezra, greets his energy perfectly with her matching hippie attire. At first, some family and friends of the two can’t understand why they are dating one another, but that doesn’t stop them from growing closer. The real kick-off though was when Ezra complimented Amira on their date saying there was no box that could define her. Taken aback with honor, she admits that he’s real, and the two fall even harder.

Ezra and Amira Seek Approval from Each others Families

Within the first thirty minutes of the movie, and only after a couple of dates together, Ezra goes as far as buying a ring in plans to marry Amira. It’s no rock, but it’s an heirloom from the Holocaust. Though Ezra comes from a traditional Jewish family who would usually prefer to marry within the religion, his mom expresses happiness when he tells her his plan. However, Amira’s family wasn’t the easiest to win over. While asking for approval to marry their daughter, Ezra is met with uncomfortability and jokes his way through the first conversation with Amira’s parents. He even bluntly states that Jesus is both black and Jewish.

Amira’s father, Akbar, played by Eddie Murphy, having no want in Ezra’s nonsense. He leans in with his arms crossed over his chest to ask, “So you wanna marry my daughter?” Ezra responds, “Yes, yes I do.” With no hesitation at all, Akbar says, “Well Ezra, you can try.”

Though Ezra was not received with the blessing of Amira’s parents, he still dropped to one knee to propose with what actually would be a very romantic proposal, as he warm-heartedly confesses his love for Amira. She happily says “Of course.” Ezra, with a newfound confidence, proceeds to change a few things in his life. He quits his job to start a podcast on black culture, but only after expending the couple from buying a house for the two. Worried about their finances, Amira’s parents warn her not to move forward with Ezra.

As the movie continues, the families attempt to get to know one another by sharing stories of their heritages. As they talk about the differences in their racial adversaries, the two families inadvertently bond. Both have gone through adversity like slave ownership and the Holocaust.

Amira’s Dad Razzes Ezra, While His Mom Embarrasses Herself in Front of Amira’s Bridesmaids

Amira asks Ezra to spend quality time with her dad, while Amira agrees to do the same with his mother. Akbar takes Ezra to his barbershop where he’s jokingly called “a pigment-challenged friend,”. The shop is located in an inner city where people are predominantly black. Ezra’s Mom, Shelley, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, takes Amira to a beauty spa and makes a scene for thinking the beautician was allowing someone else ahead of them because of Amira being black. Shelley then embarrasses herself even more by accidentally ripping a wig off of one of Amira’s bridesmaids’ head. Though apprehensive, the families continue with their efforts to get to know one another.

As the romantic comedy continues, Ezra faces the daunting reality that Akbar still doesn’t want him to marry his daughter. He tells him he’s not the right one in a hard truth man to man chat. Ezra responds with a lengthy speech on why he’s the perfect match for Amira. He also states all the reasons why Akbar was in the wrong for razzing him. Amira and Shelley seemingly go through the same conflict right before the wedding. As Amira finally stands her ground with Shelley and says she needs to stop showing her off like a shiny toy to all of her friends. Though everyone was coming from a genuine place, each side of the family had an equal point in the matter.

Amira Struggles with Decision to Marry Ezra

After having gone through more hardship than she anticipated, Amira calls off the wedding. Ezra ends up having great success with his podcast with his co-host best friend, Mo. He talks about how hip-hop shaped his life and that he’s proud to represent the culture by just being him. He tries to date other women, but nobody is measuring up to Amira. With the help of Akbar’s friend, Amira’s dad soon realizes that his daughter and Ezra do belong together. He calls Shelley with hopes to bring their two kids back together. This ends with a surprise meet-up between the four of them.

You People Ends In A Happily-Ever-After

You People ends in a wedding. Both Akbar and Shelley apologize and give their blessings for them to get married if they so wish. Ezra and Amira quickly decide to get back together. Little did they really know the plans of their parents, as they surprised the couple with a wedding attended by all of their family and friends, knowing they’d choose love over loss. Ezra and Amira walk down the aisle and the wise-cracking Jewish boy lives happily ever with his free-spirited Muslim wife. You People is available now on Netflix.

Rapper Nipsey Hussle’s convicted killer to be sentenced

Following the tragic death of Nipsey Hussle in 2019, a man convicted of fatally shooting the rapper and local hero will likely be sentenced to life in prison. The sentencing will take place Wednesday in a Los Angeles courtroom.

In July, Eric R. Holder Jr., 32, was found guilty of the first-degree murder of 33 year old Hussle. He was also convicted of two counts of attempted voluntary manslaughter and two counts of assault with a firearm for gunfire that struck two additional men at the scene who survived. The shooting took place outside the clothing store Hussle founded, the Marathon, in the South Los Angeles neighborhood where both men grew up.

Delayed sentencing has resulted in defense attorney Aaron Jansen moving for Superior Court Judge H. Clay Jacke to reduce Holder’s conviction to manslaughter or second-degree murder. However, the judge rejected this motion in December.

Judge Jacke will sentence Holder Thursday morning at the hearing. The murder conviction bears 25 years to life, while the other convictions insinuate life in prison when measured next to special sentencing circumstances found true by the jurors. Yet, Holder is not battling the death penalty.

AP23053185414588

Following the verdict, lead prosecutor and Deputy District Attorney John McKinney said, “We hope that there is some resounding peace in the fact that his killer will be in prison likely for the rest of his life.”

Hussle’s wife and mother of two children, Lauren London, did not attend any part of the trial. Overwhelming amounts of evidence against Holder are present– from eyewitnesses to surveillance cameras from local businesses that captured his arrival, the shooting and his departure — that his attorney conceded during trial that he had shot Hussle.

Just six hours after deliberations, the jury returned with a first-degree murder verdict. Jansen argued to jurors that feverish circumstances of the shooting should equal a  lesser verdict of voluntary manslaughter. An impromptu meeting in a shopping center Hussle owned, led to a conversation between Hussle and Holder regarding the rumors that Holder had been acting as an informant for authorities. Jansen argued that being publicly accused of being a “snitch” by a person as prominent and beloved as Hussle brought on a “heat of passion” in Holder that prompted the shooting.

A woman who was with Holder that day snapped a photo with Hussle before becoming Holder’s unknowing getaway driver. She  was a key witness for the prosecution.

Jansen said afterward that he was “deeply disappointed” in the verdict, which they planned to appeal. The sentencing, originally scheduled for September was postponed at the request of the defense. Now three years later, it is coming to an end.

Ice Spice Gets Compared To Lauren London After High School Picture Surfaces

Ice Spice is undoubtedly one of the most exciting new artists in hip-hop. Since the release of “Munch (Feelin’ U),” she began carving out her own lane in rap. She’s a product of the New York drill movement, and easily, one of the most compelling artists out of the subgenre. Songs like “Bikini Bottom” and “In Ha Mood” further catapulted her to stardom, and it appears that she’s accepted everything that comes along with fame, whether good or bad. For the most part, she seems unfazed at the attention she’s received.

The thing is, Ice Spice seems like a relatively private person. Though she’s popped out a lot in recent times, she rarely reveals information about her personal life. It’s possible that she rather the music speak for herself, and use her future releases to tell her own story. However, Ice Spice’s generally reserved demeanor has undoubtedly led fans down rabbitholes to know more about her life. Fans previously uncovered a video of Ice Spice playing volleyball in her college days at Purchase College.

Ice Spice’s High School Yearbook Photo Surfaces

If you ever wanted to see what Ice Spice looked like in high school, take a look above. Earlier today, fans somehow found an old high school photo of the Bronx rapper from a yearbook. Many were taken aback by the photo, especially since she looks distinguishably different than she does now. Though that’s normal in the process of growing up, many people were shocked to see her without the orange afro or glammed up and ready to hit a red carpet event.

She has yet to respond to the photo but it seems inevitable. She’s relatively active on Twitter these days, often chiming in on viral moments. Perhaps, she’ll end up catching the comparisons to Lauren London that spread across the timeline. “Ok I can see Ice Spice being in a movie with Lauren London playing as her sister,” one user wrote on Twitter. Though a few people compared their looks to each other, it seems that Ice Spice’s high school photo reinforced these comparisons even more. We’ll keep you posted if Ice Spice ends up responding.

Lauren London Jonah Hill’s “You People” Kiss Was CGI, Says Andrew Schultz

The hype surrounding You People has dissipated, but Andrew Schultz reignited conversations about the film. The comedy stars Jonah Hill, Lauren London, Eddie Murphy, and Nia Long, and audiences have well-received the star-studded flick. Schultz also makes an appearance in the movie as Hill’s character’s cousin. According to him, post-production added a CGI kiss.

At the conclusion of the film, Hill and London are at the altar seal their romance with a kiss. Schultz was there when the scene was being filmed, and he claims the smooch never happened. He explained things while on the Brilliant Idiots podcast that he co-hosts with Charlamagne Tha God. “There’s a hilarious thing, I don’t even know if I should share this sh*t, but the final scene, they don’t even kiss,” he said.

“It’s CGI. Swear to god,” he added. “I’m there, I’m watching the wedding, and I see them go in for the kiss, and their faces stop like this far. And I’m like, ‘I wonder how they’re going to play that in the movie. Oh, they’re probably just gonna cut right there.’ But the movie, you can see their faces come close, and then you can see their faces morph a little bit into a fake kiss.”

There hasn’t been confirmation from Barris or the actors about the allegations. When the trailer for You People first surfaced, production came under social media fire from people who questioned if Hill and London would ever be together in real life. Fans weren’t sure they would make a convincing couple on screen when many couldn’t see them as a match. Those discussions have reignited since Schultz’s revelation.

Additionally, the public has also speculated about why a CGI kiss would be necessary. Some brought up the passing of Nipsey Hussle and London possibly not wanting to cross any lines with her co-star. However, others pointed out that she did have romantic scenes with Michael B. Jordan in their 2021 film, Without Remorse.

Lauren London Shares How She Found “Courage” To Act Again After Nipsey’s Death

You People has been the talk of pop culture as the Kenya Barris film eased its way to Netflix, and the film’s star, Lauren London, has been hopping from one outlet to the next to help promote it. The actress took some deserved time away from the spotlight following the death of Nipsey Hussle. She reflected on her return to the big screen while on The Drew Barrymore Show.

“I’m very apprehensive with just working right now, just grieving still and just, you know, building a new life,” said London. “So, I’m very intentional on who I work with, and Kenya just created a really safe space. And so did Jonah [Hill].”

In March 2019, Nipsey was outside his Marathon Clothing store in Los Angeles when he was shot and killed by Eric Holder. The two men were associates, and it’s reported that Nipsey said something that Holder took as an offense.

Last year, Holder was found guilty of Hussle’s murder and is currently awaiting sentencing. Since his death, London has focused on maintaining his legacy and took a step back from pursuing her career.

The actress also revealed that her eldest son, Kameron Carter, whom she shares with Lil Wayne, encouraged her to get back to work.

Barrymore wanted to know how London found the courage to return to acting.

“Every day is different. So, some days you don’t want to. You just want to lay there,” she answered. “My big reason is my children because they do deserve a really happy mom, and they deserve joy, and they deserve a house that has music playing and incense going and light coming in the windows. They deserve that.”

“You know, when you lose someone, they’re on the other side wanting you to continue life, as well,” London further stated. “So, I just always think about what I know Nip would want me to do and what I know my children deserve. And what I deserve, too!”

Lauren London Laughs About Awkward Way She Met Jonah Hill

She’s been in the industry for some time, but Lauren London made her first appearance on a late-night talk show this week. The actress is returning to the silver screen in full force as one of the many stars of You People. The top-billing cast rounds out with Eddie Murphy, Nia Long, and Jonah Hill, and while on The Tonight Show, she revealed how she first met one of her co-stars.

Weeks before filming You People, London said she was trying to drive into a valet parking area, but there was a large van in the way. She was complaining to herself about the inconvenience and honking her horn, only to see that the vehicle belonged to Hill.

However, the brief exchange didn’t sour either actor, as they have gone on to become good friends.

“Jonah is really my homeboy in real life,” she said. “I love me some Jonah Hill.”

The press run for You People is in full effect, but Hill has been noticeably absent from red carpets and interviews. Last year, he revealed that after working on his mental health documentary Stutz, he would be taking a bit of a break from the spotlight.

“Through this journey of self-discovery within the film, I have come to the understanding that I have spent nearly 20 years experiencing anxiety attacks,” he wrote in an open letter at the time. “Which are exacerbated by media appearances and public-facing events.”

He added, “You won’t see me out there promoting this film, or any of my upcoming films, while I take this important step to protect myself. If I made myself sicker by going out there and promoting it, I wouldn’t be acting true to myself or to the film.”

It is a choice that London profoundly respects. She informed Variety she would support whatever decision Hill made for himself and his health.

“Life is tough for all of us,” London told the outlet earlier this month. “For us to pretend that we’re stronger than others and we can handle more, that’s unfair. I hold space for Jonah Hill. That’s my homeboy. I love him, and whatever he needs to do for his soul, I am there for it.”
