SZA Can Not Believe Her Martin Scorsese Name-Drop, Earned Her A Subtle Co-Sign From The Filmmaker Himself

It appears SZA is grateful she abandoned her intergalactic trip to Saturn. Yesterday (December 20), after a slight hiccup SOS Deluxe: Lana was finally uploaded to streaming platforms. Among the 15 new tracks, SZA couldn’t help but make yet another movie reference. On the first installment of the musical series, Quentin Tarantino’s 2003 hit Kill Bill was her film fix.

But now SZA is all about coveted filmmaker Martin Scorsese, and he is all for it. Over on Instagram, Scorsese’s daughter Francesca shared a subtle stamp of approval from her and her dad. With a photo of her father (viewable here), Francesca used SZA’s track “Scorsese Baby Daddy” that name-drops Martin along with the caption: “SZA, Queen sh*t”

Well, shortly after SZA shared her geeked about reaction to the show of love. “The fact that this isn’t AI, and it is actually Martin Scorsese 😭,” SZA wrote in her repost.

Although the song doesn’t reference any of Scorsese’s award-winning films, it does something even better—hail Scorsese has the king of dramas.

“I rolled up all my problems / And then I smoked about it / I could’ve called my mom up / I’d rather f*ck about it / Addicted to the drama / Scorsese baby daddy / Right there, just a little further down / Got a brand new reason to spiral out / Bad mood, baby, come work me out / Oh, I’ma crash out, baby, don’t slow me do,” she sings.

Given that SZA’s recent interaction with Ben Stiller online led to him starring in the music video for “Drive,” this could be the start of an epic visual saga.

SZA Embraces & Acknowledges Her Flaws On “Cry Baby”

SZA fans are finally able to say that LANA, the deluxe of SOS, is finally here. The hinting, teasing, promoting, or whatever you want to call it, was going on for close to two years. Then, when the day did arrive, it wasn’t out immediately. Due to some mixing issues and tweaks, her supporters were really getting anxious. But at 3 p.m. ET, the record made its way onto streaming, and so far, there are some instant hits for us. We already got to a couple of them, with those being “Drive,” “Saturn,” and “30 For 30.” The latter features Kendrick Lamar and it just goes to show how that whenever they link it’s a hit. That song in particular is already sparking some debate online thanks to K. Dot’s verse.

Some think he’s subliminally dissing another rapper, but who really knows. While it’s great that it’s getting all of the attention (for the most part), we wanted to put more people on to “Cry Baby.” For many SZA die-hards this has been a coveted track. Its origins supposedly trace back to a Hyde Park set in London during the summer of this year. Then, it was teased at the end of the full music video for “Drive” yesterday. Now, the completed version is here, and it’s got some great writing and stunning singing, which is what you come to expect from SZA. It finds her taking on her flaws and insecurities and embracing them. Overall, she’s faced a lot of pressure throughout her career; something she acknowledges on the first verse. But the way she was able flip the narrative around on her “Cry Baby” is special. See what we mean by visiting the link below.

SZA’s New Album ‘SOS Deluxe: Lana’ Is Finally Available To Stream

At midnight today (or 9 PM Thursday on the West Coast), SZA fans were disappointed when her long-awaited album, Lana, did not hit DSPs as expected. While she offered up the video for “Drive” as a consolation, she also declared the project wouldn’t be available ’til later in the day due to some last-second tweaks. TDE President Punch Henderson chimed in this morning to promise that it’d be up by noon Pacific. And hey, what do you know: They kept their promise. SOS Deluxe: Lana is finally available to stream on Apple, Spotify, Tidal, or whatever other streamer you choose.

The new version of the album features 15 new tracks, including “Drive” and one feature: SZA’s long-awaited reunion with former TDE Golden Boy, Kendrick Lamar, who has been in the midst of one helluva hot streak of his own in 2024. They were unofficially reunited earlier this month when they both took the stage at TDE’s annual holiday concert in Nickerson Gardens in Watts, where Top Dawg Tiffith, the label’s founder, grew up. They’ll also be on a joint tour together next year to promote their new albums. The fans who were disappointed last night are definitely feeling much differently now.

SZA & Kendrick Lamar’s Charisma & Chemistry Is On Another Level On “30 For 30”

Just when we thought SZA dropping SOS Deluxe: LANA was going to be more than enough, she stuns fans with another Kendrick Lamar collab. Her former TDE labelmate is the only guest on the brand-new reissue, which contains 15 extra songs. They reconvene on “30 For 30,” the third record in, and its arguably their most charismatic effort together. SZA told British Vogue back in November that LANA was going to effectively be from a more upbeat headspace. You can tell that the mission was carried out on this track for sure. She sounds very expressive and adopts some Kendrick’s vocal acrobatics to some extent.

Even though this is more of relationship-related cut, his part on the chorus (see below), is sure to cause some debate online. We can already envision the theories on how this is a subtle response to Drake’s recent UMG lawsuit. This is just what Kendrick does though (especially now) whenever he hops on another artist’s record. He instantly has everyone gravitating toward what he’s got to say. But outside of that, the song is another phenomenal addition to their joint catalog. It’s their third of the year after SZA assisted him on GNX with “luther” and the closer, “gloria.” Check out “30 For 30” with the “[Via]” link below.

But none of y’all ain’t really got s***

I swear I’d be at peace if it weren’t for you (Yeah, yeah)

SZA Finally Blesses Starving Fans With “SOS Deluxe: Lana”

After over a year of teasing and promising, on top of an additional mixing delay, SZA’s SOS Deluxe: LANA is here. The initial 23-song effort was chockful of instant hits. “Snooze,” “Good Days,” “Kill Bill,” the list goes on. Leading up to today, SZA made it clear what her intentions were for this bonus version. “I think I am making music from a more beautiful place. From a more possible place versus a more angsty place.” She continued, “I’m not identifying with my brokenness. It’s not my identity. It’s shit that happened to me. Yeah, I experienced cruelty. I have to put it down at some point. Piece by piece, my music is shifting because of that, the lighter I get.”

You can definitely hear SZA sounding freer and enjoying life. For example, on “Diamond Boy,” she’s talking about how crazy she is about this guy. On SOS there were a lot more tracks about having a disdain for relationships, with breakup anthems peppered throughout (“Kill Bill” a perfect example). But there are still some thematic carryovers. “Drive,” one of the big teasers, finds SZA struggling with staying on track with her goals due to outside distractions. It makes sense why there’s a mixture though. After all, she did say “piece by piece” her “music is shifting.” Check out SOS Deluxe: LANA with the links below.

When Is SZA’s ‘Lana’ Coming Out?

You’ll have to wait a little longer for SZA‘s new album. But not too much longer.

Lana, an expanded version of 2022’s massively popular SOS, was given a release date of today, December 20, but when fans of the “Saturn” singer woke up this morning, there was no album to be found. “FULL DELUXE OUT TOMORROW AM. On the 20th!” SZA wrote in an Instagram Story on Thursday. “Just needed a few more hours for new mixes to ingest evenly across all platforms.. (mixes are important) love you camp.”

So, when is it coming out? SZA’s manager Punch answered that on X: “12pm. It’s my fault.” That’s 12 p.m. PT / 3 p.m. ET.

Stay tuned.

Previously, Punch talked about SZA’s creative process with Variety. “I don’t think she’ll ever feel 100 percent confident in the songs,” he said. “She’s her own toughest critic. So my job is to come in and reaffirm that this record is amazing and this is why.” When the topic of SZA’s fans getting mad at him about the long wait for new music came up, Punch explained, “I understand that people need a fall guy, a bad guy. So I prefer that to be me than the artist. I don’t need her focusing on that while she’s making these records. I’ll take that.”

SZA Pours Out Her Emotions & Thoughts On Vibey “Drive” Ahead Of “Lana”

FULL DELUXE DROPS FIRST THING TOMORROW AM🫡,” SZA wrote on Instagram earlier this morning. “(Had to get my mixes right lol! All songs are delivered and Ingesting into the system as we speak🙂↕ pls be kind.. we been up for days).” It’s a bit of disheartening message to hear, but hopefully, it arrives within the next couple of hours. For now, though, the Missouri singer-songwriter is giving listeners a nice preview of what LANA will provide. “Drive” is officially out now on YouTube and it’s the track we got a taste of a couple of days ago. SZA posted a teaser for the track and music video starring her friend Ben Stiller on social media and fans were in love.

We are now hopping on the bandwagon as well because the track is beautiful, sad, and incredibly well written. Its chorus is incredibly catchy and one that will assuredly be belted out in the car by fans on their late-night drives. But it’s much more than a radio-friendly record. “Drive” finds SZA a bit lost as mentions the difficulties she’s having when it comes to being alone despite being a megastar. Moreover, she’s also trying to keep the course and find fulfillment and happiness, which is something that almost everyone can relate to. It’s a nice acoustic ballad and one that will quickly become a fan favorite. You can check it out below and you’ll be pleasantly surprised to hear a snippet of “Crybaby” which will be on LANA as well.

SZA’s ‘Lana’ Didn’t Drop At Midnight As Expected, But SZA Explained The Reason For The Delay

SZA fans have been waiting for Lana, an expanded version of SOS, for a good while now. Finally, though, it’s Lana season: The project was recently given a release date of today, December 20. However, as of this post, it’s not out yet.

Fortunately, SZA has an explanation, and the headline is that the project is still scheduled for release today.

In an Instagram Story shared last night (December 19), SZA explains, “FULL DELUXE OUT TOMORROW AM. On the 20th! Just needed a few more hours for new mixes to ingest evenly across all platforms.. (mixes are important) love you camp.”

She shared a similar message in an Instagram post, writing, “FULL DELUXE DROPS FIRST THING TOMORROW AM (Had to get my mixes right lol ! All songs are delivered and Ingesting into the system as we speak pls be kind .. we been up for days ).”

Earlier this week, SZA announced the Lana release date with some help from Ben Stiller. Still stars in SZA’s “Drive” video, which actually is out now.

In other Lana news, when SZA unveiled the cover art earlier this week, it made her recent Hot Ones appearance make a lot more sense. On the show, she did the whole episode with some freaky, bug-like facial prosthetics, and she sports the same look on the Lana artwork.

Lana is out 12/20 via Top Dawg Entertainment. Find more information here.

In SZA’s Cheeky ‘Drive’ Video, Ben Stiller Sings Along While Ghostriding The Whip

SZA’s long-awaited LP Lana hits streaming tonight/today, but ahead of its official release, the TDE singer shared the video for “Drive,” another freewheeling, introspective single that finds SZA letting her thoughts race. Fittingly, the video is road-themed, starring Ben Stiller. The comic actor sings along to the song on a night drive, trying to keep himself awake. He resorts to desperate measures to that end, even getting out and “ghostriding the whip,” as they say in The Bay, dancing and lip-syncing along as the car rolls along beside him.

SZA doesn’t actually appear in the video ’til the very end, as the bug-like alien from her album cover. The alien is hiding just off the side of the road, and preens among the long grass as a second song plays. You may want to cut the video off before then if you happen to be watching at work, as SZA is quite nude (save costume appropriate body paint and the requisite prosthetics).

SZA technically started the rollout for the record back in September on an episode of Hot Ones where she debuted her bug costume, which some fans astutely predicted had something to do with Lana. After the album — originally intended as a deluxe edition of SOS — was leaked, SZA went back to the drawing board, hence the wait. But that wait is finally over and you can check out Lana here.

SZA Ups The Weirdness In Striking NSFW Cover For “Lana”

SZA loves to make statements, and this covert art for her upcoming SOS deluxe LANA definitely makes one. The R&B/pop phenom shared the official artwork to her social media accounts just moments ago. It continues on the outdoor/woodsy theme from the first trailer we got where she appeared to be peeing in the wilderness. Yes, that is not a lie, click the link here. It features the Missouri native standing in an overgrown field at night wearing some yellow cargo drawstring pants and a matching jacket. But it gets much weirder from there.

She appears to have some sort of body paint on, is wearing circular tinted shades, has alien/or bug antennas, and is exposing her entire stomach and chest region. The caption doesn’t begin to give the cover justice, as SZA writes, “Presave link is live.” Besides the nature aspect, the buggy features were something that was also teased by the hitmaker previously. Back in September, SZA went on Hot Ones and was wearing a similar alien-like mask then for the interview.

The connections don’t really stop there either though. Outside of “Drive” — which was teased in the hilarious and wholesome second teaser trailer with Ben Stiller — the one possible single we have is “Saturn.” Of course, that relates to space and astronomy, which might also tie into LANA somehow. Overall, there’s definitely a bit of world building to some extent going on, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store.

Outside of that, we don’t really know how many new songs there will be. Given that this will just be a deluxe, we can’t imagine there won’t be an entire album’s worth of cuts to drop. Although Megan Thee Stallion did drop 13 extra records for the “extended version” of MEGAN earlier this year. All bets are off, but regardless, fans are thrilled. “BRO JUST DROP TSSS,” one IG user exclaims. Don’t worry y’all, December 20 will be here soon enough.
