Dot Da Genius Taps Kid Cudi, Denzel Curry And JID For The Dismissive “Talk About Me”

Dot Da Genius lays a heavy drum and synth canvas for Kid Cudi, Denzel Curry, and JID to do what they do best on “Talk About Me.” Curry makes a reference to Kids See Ghosts before Cudi enters with his signature hums and gets some bars off himself. JID takes the baton last and brings this rap relay race home with his usual shapeshifting flow switches. It makes sense that, as they say in the song’s hook, everybody on the block is talking about them. The three rap with conviction in this lyrical exhibition will soon receive a Cole Bennett and Lyrical Lemonade-directed visual.

Dot Da Genius is known primarily for his production efforts, contributing to Denzel Curry’s Melt My Eyez See Your Future from earlier this year and Kid Cudi’s Man On The Moon III from 2020. Dot also scored the soundtrack for Cudi’s upcoming animated Netflix series Entergalactic premiering in September. As far as solo releases, “Talk About Me” is his first since 2018’s “Fettucine” featuring Tunji Ige, Fat Tony, and Price. Dot Da Genius, per a press statement, is looking to put out a lot more of these collaborations in the near future, living up to the “Talk About Me” mantra.

SOHH’s Recap Of The Governor’s Ball 2022

Governor's Ball

In a post-pandemic world full of different music festivals,  the main focus is usually appealing to one specific genre of music fans or a particular age group. Governors Ball 2022 took it by the reigns and threw that idea out the window.  With a star-studded lineup boasting the generational icon Kid Cudi, pop music princess […]

It Looks Like Kid Cudi Is Jumping On The Artist Festival Wave With Moonman’s Landing In Cleveland

In recent years, as music festivals have become a more prominent portion of the industry’s ecosystem, more artists have begun to fund and promote their own festivals to take advantage. If most of your income comes from live performances, why not get yourself and a bunch of your work friends paid while offering entertainment for your hometown crowd? Entries to this promising space include J. Cole’s Dreamville Festival, Pharrell’s Something In The Water (which is this weekend), Tyler The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival, and most infamously, Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival. This autumn, a new contender may be throwing his hat in the ring: Kid Cudi.

On social media, Kid Cudi announced that his Moonman’s Landing event would take place in Cleveland, Ohio on September 17, 2022. Although details remain scarce and it isn’t even really confirmed that the event being teased is indeed a festival, that outcome seems the likeliest, as Cudi certainly falls within that same upper echelon of hip-hop with the above-mentioned names and has seen plenty of success on the festival circuit, especially at Rolling Loud, where many of the above performers have appeared.

Whatever Moonman’s Landing turns out to be, it’ll land in the middle of a huge month for Cudi. He’s also releasing his new album, Entergalactic, and its accompanying Netflix animated series on September 30.

Kid Cudi’s Album And Animated Netflix Series ‘Entergalactic’ Get A Release Date

Kid Cudi’s been promoting his cross-media project Entergalactic for some time now. First announced in 2019, the title applies to both a Netflix animated series and an album that will accompany it. While he released the first single from the album, “Do What I Want,” a week ago, the trailer for the series dropped a few days before. Meanwhile, in all that, we still had no idea when either was actually coming out. But now we do.

Cudi announced the shared release date, September 30, with a tweet featuring a short clip showing off the series’ unique animation style, as his character lights up a joint and blows a cloud of smoke into the air in the shape of the project’s title. The clip also plays a snippet of one of the songs that will presumably appear on the album.

In addition to Entergalactic, Cudi’s taken on a number of other film projects in varying capacities in the past few months, from an acting role in John Woo’s upcoming action thriller Silent Night to his first-ever directorial one for Teddy, a film Cudi wrote that is co-produced by Jay-Z. He’ll also appear in X co-star Brittany Snow’s directorial debut September 17th. Mr. Mescudi’s got a busy schedule ahead of him.
