Kendrick Lamar headlined Glastonbury this weekend. He made headlines for his powerful statement regarding women’s rights in wake of the SCOTUS deciding to overturn Roe V. Wade. His performance has since been praised by many publications and critics.

Kendrick also dropped his critically acclaimed 5th studio album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers earlier this year. While the album received rave reviews from critics, the public perception of the album was mixed due to the themes surrounding mental health, the LBGTQ+ community, trauma, and sexual abuse.

While on stage during his Glastonbury performance, Kendrick shared with the crowd why he wrote the album, citing “everybody is going through something.”

“So many faces, y’all blessed me to be upon this stage. And you know we blessed to make sure we give y’all some sh*t you feel, and that’s the real reason why I wrote Mr. Morale, because everybody’s going through something. No matter what you’re going through, imperfection is beautiful.”

“I wear this crown. They judged Christ,” he added. “They judge you, they judge Christ… I wear this as a representation so you’ll never forget one of the greatest prophets that ever walked the earth.”

Thee Stallion would state her home state of Texas is embarrassing her and spoke on behalf of her fans. “I wanna have it on the records, that the hot boys and hot girls do not support this bullshit that y’all campaigning for.”

She would also start the chant, “My body, my motherfucking choice.”

During his time on stage, Kendrick Lamar said to the crowd, “They judge you, they judged Christ. Godspeed for women’s rights.”

Kendrick Lamar Makes Powerful Message About Roe V. Wade Overturn During Glastonbury Performance

On Friday, the Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, a landmark Supreme Court decision that granted federal protection over the right for women to legally get abortions, thus leaving its legality up to the states. This has sparked multiple protests across the country, and even the world watches as the United States takes another step back in ensuring the rights and safety of its citizens.

During his headlining set at Glastonbury on Sunday, June 26, Kendrick Lamar used the stage to make a powerful message about women’s rights. In the clip below, Kendrick is wearing the diamond-encrusted crown of thorns with blood coming from his head as he raps “They judge you, they judged Christ. Godspeed for women’s rights.”

K.Dot also addressed the crowd during his performance of “Love.”

“On behalf of me and my team, I want to thank every individual out here tonight,” he said. “I consider y’all family, this shit is special, it means a lot to me. I look out into the crowd and I see different creeds, different colors. I wear this crown. They judged Christ. They judge you, they judged Christ. We gonna continue to walk in his image.”

Among the other artists who spoke out about the Supreme Court’s ruling were Megan Thee Stallion and Eminem. Meg led the crows in chanting, “My body, my motherfucking choice.”

Kendrick Lamar Chants For Women’s Rights While Bleeding From A Crown Of Thorns At His Glastonbury Performance

Kendrick Lamar takes his performances very seriously, especially the visual aspect and what it conveys. At this weekend’s Glastonbury Festival in England, the Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers artist perhaps made his biggest statement yet, assuming the role of Jesus Christ by sporting a diamond crown of thorns and alluding to the recent Roe v. Wade decision.

The DAMN rapper repeatedly exclaims “They judge you, they judge Christ, Godspeed for women’s rights” as blood pours out from his crown of thorns. His voice crescendoes as he says the phrase over and over before aggressively dropping the microphone and leaving the stage as his backup dancers pose statically.

This display is major for such a controversial decision, especially coming from a rapper who spent his last album humanizing himself after years of being placed on a pedestal due to social activism and messaging. Regardless of his standing, Kendrick Lamar has always been an advocate for the things he believes in even if the majority of people disagree, like his support of XXXTentacion or aligning with Kodak Black on Mr. Morale, for example. With a platform like his, this will send a message through the United States despite it being done overseas.

Pusha T Is A Fan Of Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers’ And Considers It ‘Great Competition’

Pusha T has spent most of 2022 promoting his fourth album It’s Almost Dry. The 12-track project is his first full-length effort since 2018’s Daytona, and it’s a body of work that Pusha thinks very highly of. He’s billed the project as 2022’s rap album of the year, something Tom Brady agrees with, and he’s made sure to remind fans about that at every chance he gets. One of those moments came during a recent interview with HotNewHipHop where he spoke about a number of topics regarding It’s Almost Dry. Pusha also took a second to speak about a recent album from one of his rap competitors, that being Kendrick Lamar.

During the interview, Pusha was asked for his opinion on Kendrick Lamar’s fifth album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. “I think he made a strong album,” Pusha replied. “I think his album is definitely a conversation piece, for sure. I think that Kendrick does what he does lyrically. I think… man, it was impressive. I think it was impressive, for sure.”

He continued, “I think it’s great competition. It’s a matter of what you want to hear. I feel like for what it is that I do and what I was going for, and like I said, this is rap album of the year to me. It’s Almost Dry. That is the mood and that is the energy. I think I put out that type of energy. I don’t think me and Kendrick made the same type of album, at all. It’s two different listens.”

Both Pusha and Kendrick are responsible for big moments in hip-hop this year thanks to their respective 2022 albums. Another big moment came last weekend when Pusha T and his brother Malice — a duo better known as Clipse — reunited to perform together for the first time since 2010.

Pusha T Declares Himself and Kendrick Lamar “The Best Rappers” In New Interview

Pusha T’s It’s Almost Dry and Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers are two of the most critically acclaimed albums of 2022, so far, and have cemented Push and Kendrick as two of the best, if not the best, rappers of the year. In a new interview with HotNewHipHop, Pusha T declared himself and K.Dot the best rappers in the game and calls the Compton MC’s latest album “great competition.”

“I think he made a strong album. I think his album is definitely a conversation piece, for sure. I think that Kendrick does what he does lyrically,” Push said. “I think it was impressive, for sure. I think it’s great competition. It’s a matter of what you want to hear. I feel like for what it is that I do and what I was going for, and like I said, this is rap album of the year to me. It’s Almost Dry. That is the mood and that is the energy. I think I put out that type of energy.”

The two artist’s albums are considered two of the best that have been released this year and released within weeks of each other. When asked why the albums were so important for 2022, Push responded by saying “because we’re the best rappers.”

“I’m just talking about in a sense of being like really good rappers [laughs], fundamentally good rappers. You know that from those two artists you are getting the truth. That’s it. People know that they are getting quality. You know that you are getting taste. You know that you are getting well-thought-out compositions,” he said. I haven’t heard anybody say that they hated my album or his album. I feel like you’re gonna like both, for sure. But it’s just a matter of what you are feeling and what mood you prefer to be in.”

Push didn’t say whether he thinks K.Dot’s album is better than his or vice versa. But throughout the year Push has made it a point that It’s Almost Dry is indeed “Rap Album Of The Motherf*cking Year.
