Drake Takes Down Another Record of The Beatles with "Staying Alive" feature

The 2022 BET Hip-Hop Awards nominations have been released. Drake leads the pack with 14 nominations, and Kanye West comes in second with 10. The third most nominations go to Kendrick Lamar, who has nine.

Additional nominees for this year’s edition include Future at eight nods and the trio of Baby Keem, Cardi B, and J. Cole with six apiece.

Hip-Hop Album of the year nominees is Latto’s 777, Drake’s Certified Lover Boy, Kanye West’s DONDA, Future’s I NEVER LIKED YOU, Pusha T’s It’s Almost Dry, Nas’ King’s Disease II, and Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.

Hip-Hop artist of the year nominees is Cardi B, Doja Cat, Drake, Future, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, and Megan Thee Stallion.

It’s almost time for the BET Hip-Hop Awards, the only awards show dedicated specifically to the world’s most popular genre. A week after announcing the host of this year’s show, Fat Joe, BET has announced the nominees for the awards on Twitter and Instagram. Drake leads the way with 14 nominations, Kanye West has 10, and Kendrick Lamar has nine. The show will air on October 9 at 9 pm ET.

Punch TDE Reveals That Kendrick Lamar Wanted To Redo His “Control” Verse

Kendrick Lamar’s verse on Big Sean’s “Control” still remains a topic for today. It cemented K.Dot as a top tier MC and as the de facto leader of his generation of rappers. In a new interview with the My Expert Opinion podcast, TDE President, Punch, revealed that Kendrick actually wanted to redo his verse to allow Big Sean to do another verse. However, he was ultimately able to convince Kendrick to leave the verse as is.

“We had that conversation like and a few weeks later, I think he was on tour, and he sent me the song. He was like, ‘Yo, what you think? I listened to it and I said this is perfect. It’s the one. And he told me, he wanted to give Sean another verse, but he was like, ‘Nah, keep that.’

“It caught fire everywhere. When I seen Phil Jackson mention it in a tweet, I’m like, ‘Oh OK. This is different right here.” […] We knew it was huge. He didn’t understand the impact ’cause he was overseas on tour.”

Punch then addressed how many New York rappers had a problem with Kendrick’s verse. He said that Joe Budden’s response to Kendrick’s “Control” verse was his favorite.

“I listened to all of them,” he said. “I think it might have been Budden. I like Budden,” Punch said. “It was funny to us. We literally sitting back like, ‘Ha! N-ggas mad. Look, all of them responding. That’s crazy.’”

Last night, the Television Academy announced that this year’s Super Bowl halftime performance, which took place this past February and featured Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, And Kendrick Lamar, had won three Creative Arts Emmy awards.

On social media, the Academy revealed that the performance won the awards for Outstanding Variety Special (Live), Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special, and Outstanding Music Direction.

This year’s Super Bowl was an iconic moment for hip-hop, largely for West Coast hip-hop. In a July interview with Apple Music 1, Blige sat down to reflect on the monumental performance.

“I don’t even have the words to explain how full and how huge of an accomplishment that was,” Blige said. “I just felt so strong. And I felt like, first of all, grateful to have been asked, but I definitely felt like I earned that moment,” Blige remarked. “So when it was my turn, I just showed the world who I was. If you’d never seen me or you never met me or you never went to any of my shows, you know exactly who I am after the Super Bowl. I just couldn’t wait to hit the Mary bopping. I just couldn’t wait to just be myself and do what I do in front of that audience. That was the world, that was a big deal. I was so grateful.”

Kendrick Lamar’s ‘We Cry Together’ Brings Its Chaotic Argument To Life Thanks To A New Short Film

When Kendrick Lamar dropped his new album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, one track, in particular, got fans’ attention straight out of the gate. Thanks to its unnervingly accurate depiction of a contentious domestic dispute, “We Cry Together” became a polarizing fan favorite — if I can use that term loosely. While some were uncomfortable with Kendrick’s and guest star Taylour Paige’s performances, others (including one very enthused security guard) praised them for bringing their actual experiences to life. Now, Kendrick’s gone one step further, releasing the accompanying short film for the first time since its June premiere in Los Angeles.

The short film is pretty much exactly what the song portrays: A couple in the midst of an explosive argument, trading acidic insults and disquieting threats. Kenny’s in character as a blue collar worker and the whole episode mostly takes place in the cramped confines of the couple’s living room as the toxic discussion unfolds. It ends, as the song does, with a messy, Insecure-esque sex scene that is, frankly, not safe for work at all. In a nice twist, though, the camera pulls back to reveal that the living room is indeed a movie set, giving viewers the opportunity to decompress as they realize it’s all just a production.
