Kendrick Lamar & Black Hippy Finally Give Fans The Reunion They Dreamed Of At “The Pop Out”

TDE supergroup Black Hippy finally fulfilled fans’ dreams and hit the stage together for the first time in a long time at member Kendrick Lamar’s “The Pop Out” concert last night (Wednesday, Juneteenth). Of course, the team behind the show promoted it as an event “with friends,” so guest appearances and special performances were par the course. Still, a lot of folks assumed that Ken would bring out Baby Keem and recent collaborators as well, but a more skeptical buzz when it came to whether Black Hippy would reunite. In retrospect, assuming that Mr. Morale wouldn’t capitalize on this opportunity with his L.A. brothers sounds outright ridiculous.

Moreover, here’s how it all went down. First, Jay Rock emerged during Kendrick Lamar’s performance of “Money Trees” to deliver one of his best verses ever. Then, Ab-Soul came out to sing the beginning of Kendrick’s “6:16 In LA” Drake diss, which he had posted a notable video of doing back when the beef was at a more heightened tension level. Finally, ScHoolboy Q came out to his K.Dot collab “Collard Greens.” The quartet stuck around to vibe out to Q’s “THat Part” (no Black Hippy remix verses, sadly) and to Ken’s “King Kunta.”

Black Hippy Returns At Kendrick Lamar’s “Pop Out”

Obviously, they all popped out for the multiple performances on “Not Like Us,” which was another heartening moment to see. If you remove the context of a Drake diss (a near-impossible task, as the setlist opened with “Euphoria” and also included the “Like That” verse), “The Pop Out” seems like a wholly positive and unitary event. It certainly was so, but Kendrick Lamar made it clear that it wasn’t all fun and games, either. After all, duality is a Gemini’s best friend.

Also, it was amazing to see some love and renewed respect for Los Angeles legends that the newer generation might be less familiar with. The biggest non-musical example of this is the appearance of Tommy The Clown, an L.A. dance legend that invented the “clowning” dance style that led to “krumping” during the 1992 Rodney King riots. Surely more info and West Coast history will emerge as a result of Kendrick Lamar’s “Pop Out.” Hopefully more celebrations of the culture can happen throughout the year that aren’t tied to PDF file-downloading allegations.

Kendrick Lamar & His Explosive “Pop Out” Show Have Fans Hilariously Speculating On Drake’s Reaction To It

What many people jokingly called “Hatechella” last night had a bit more to it than that, but regardless, Kendrick Lamar and his “Pop Out” concert with what felt like the entire West Coast was a pretty scathing way to claim victory against Drake. The man opened with “Euphoria,” and it was clear from Ken’s very first note that this was going to be a nasty double-down against his opponent. While Drake hasn’t said much to indicate his thoughts on the matter (though there are hints), there are many fans on both sides currently speculating on what his reaction must’ve been like and what he did or is doing right now that could reflect that.

Furthermore, one of the main factors driving these Drake theories is that Kendrick Lamar had a lot of people in attendance that were not as obviously on Team K.Dot before, but certainly look like they are now. The biggest examples of this are a couple of NBA players. DeMar DeRozan (whom Kendrick rapped about leaving the Toronto Raptors on “Not Like Us”) and Russell Westbrook took the stage to dance to the diss, and LeBron James and James Harden were in attendance. “Lebron rapping along to ‘the other vaginal option’ gonna send Drake into a tailspin lmaooooo,” one fan wrote.

LeBron James At Kendrick Lamar’s Concert

Meanwhile, another big factor of many of these reactions, especially from the OVO camp, is how Kendrick Lamar and the West Coast should thank Drake for this. After all, a lot of people see this success as a direct result of using The Boy’s name for “clout,” as bizarre as it is to say one of the biggest rappers alive someone who needs any more of that. But there’s a lot of new things that Mr. Morale did in the beef’s aftermath, like speaking at Compton College and reuniting Black Hippy, that he might not have done if he didn’t have good reason to. Nevertheless, Kendrick also made it clear that this moment means much more to him than any feud, and that this is just capitalizing on one domino that fell and created momentum for much more.

Fans Theorize Drake & His Fans’ Reactions To “The Pop Out”

From what these reactions indicate, there’s no telling how Drake really feels about the Kendrick Lamar show right now. Maybe he’ll respond with some subliminal disses, IG Story shade, or another sort of clap-back or public address. His fans reacted quite comically to all this as well, in amicable and not-so-friendly ways alike. All of them are valid, though. After all, most of us don’t know what it’s like to have about 17,000 people diss you on repeat about eight or nine times throughout a celebration.

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Electrifies A Kids’ Party In Viral Clip Of Sing & Dance-Along

The kids set a lot of the trends these days, so when a whole room of them catches up to what the adults are bumping, these pop culture moments reach another level of recognition. Ironically enough, this just happened to the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef, as a clip recently went viral of a children’s party singing and dancing along to “Not Like Us’ quite fervently. A lot of folks will obviously point out how this isn’t a very appropriate song for grade schoolers to bump, whether in terms of the lyrical content or the absolutely vicious intent behind it. Regardless, you can’t do much to slow down what’s viral.

Of course, this has zero bearing on the battle’s public perception as a whole, and is more indicative of the massive success that “Not Like Us” has experienced individually. As for Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s current situation, we’re definitely in a more retrospective and speculative place right now where all folks can do is recap, analyze, theorize, and try to paint the picture in a more detailed fashion now that we have some distance from the onslaught. For example, one alleged detail we received via Compton artist JasonMartin was K.Dot’s reaction to Drizzy’s “Family Matters” diss, or at least the reaction he allegedly shared with Martin. As you might expect, it’s quite a dismissive one.

These Kids Love Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us”

Elsewhere, though, Drake’s recent social media moves shading Kendrick Lamar and other new releases music-wise have fans chronicling the post-beef fallout with a lot of fervor, too. Whether it’s using the “BBL Drizzy” beat with Sexyy Red, insinuating the former TDE MC is a “one-trick pony,” or going full Toronto with “Wah Gwan Delilah,” people have a lot to say about his current movement, and of Kendrick Lamar’s role in it. For both good and bad reasons, it seems like The Boy is feeling the aftermath of what he wrote down.

Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar will pop out next week for his concert with friends in Los Angeles, following his commencement speech at Compton College. No one really knows what’s coming, although alum rumors are obviously rampant. But this show alone has folks incredibly excited, as we could be closing one era with a bang or entering a new one. We’ll have to wait and see what he has in store.

Kendrick Lamar Continues To Break Spotify Records As “Not Like Us” Hits Monumental Milestone

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” is barely a month old, and yet it already feels like it’s broken every Spotify rap song record under the sun as far as streaming numbers go. Moreover, you’ve probably seen this headline a lot, and it’s because people can’t get enough of this Drake diss and are looking forward to more moments with it. After all, K.Dot will likely premiere this song live in Los Angeles for his “Pop Out” Juneteenth concert, and we’re sure that if he plays it, the energy will be astounding. Anticipation for it, plus it being such a catchy song despite its subject matter, are some factors as to why it became the fastest rap song in Spotify history to surpass 300 million streams on the platform (35 days).

Of course, this might paint this rap battle as a clear victory, but both Drake and Kendrick Lamar fans have arguments for it being much closer than some folks give it credit for. Even though some people think that The Boy is acting deludedly by calling K.Dot a “one-trick pony” with his latest IG troll, his disses did contain more sharp writing than some expected. Regardless, it’s clear that numbers-wise, there is definitely a first place finish with “Not Like Us.” But as rap beef, discussion, and the genre’s artistry proves time and time again, numbers don’t really matter at the end of the day.

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Is Still A Nonstop Record-Breaker

Well, unless Kendrick Lamar is your GOAT, in which case you’ve never cared more about numbers. But light hypocrisy and confirmation bias aside, the acclaim and success behind “Not Like Us” is one of the most astonishing and unlikely hits of hip-hop’s 2024. In fact, it’s the principal driving factor behind this year in particular perhaps going down as Kendrick’s biggest streaming year of his career so far. We’ll see if this ends up being the case by the time December rolls around.

Actually, the new album rumors are rampant, and while it’s tough to call how fans will perceive this move after the Drake beef, they will likely celebrate its purely hypothetical announcement regardless. Maybe Kendrick Lamar really did just want to pop out and will use his Juneteenth show to wrap things up and leave us waiting for his next project. Or he’s about to have one of the most dominant and eventful years any rapper has ever had. Ever! And so could Drizzy if he drops something long-form, so we’ll see whether or not this dead horse is one we’ll be beating all the way to New Year’s.

Drake Fans Dub Him A Genius After Linking Kendrick Lamar Diss To The Plot Of An Infamous Paul Simon Movie

Drake’s latest Instagram post shading Kendrick Lamar has his fans praising his fit and his wit, whereas his detractors are mocking him for taking the L. Moreover, both sides have plenty of reason to engage in the way they see fit: OVO die-hards have all the power in the world to brush off the opposition, and calling K.Dot a “one-trick pony” is frankly ridiculous. But some cinephiles within The Boy’s fanbase took note of how this IG caption could be a double entendre. Specifically, they pointed to the plot of the Paul Simon movie One-Trick Pony, a 1980 film with some interesting possible parallels to the Compton lyricist.

“Jonah is an aging rock star trying to put together a new album in the face of an indifferent record label and a talentless producer,” the Google search result for One-Trick Pony‘s plot synopsis reads. “At the same time, he’s struggling to save his failing marriage.” Of course, this lines up with the new album rumors, Metro Boomin beef, Top Dawg situation, and Whitney Alford claims that Drake engaged with during his Kendrick Lamar battle. But in a lot of ways, as much as his fans will use this against Kendrick, he did do him a favor by being at the center of what might be his biggest streaming year ever.

Drake Fans Have A Theory About “One-Trick Pony” Message’s Meaning

Regardless, it’s clear that there is a lot of bad blood between Drake and Kendrick Lamar that, at this point, really has no resolution in sight. In fact, Elliot Wilson claims that this is affecting the former’s relationship with media figures, including his own. Apparently, Aubrey Graham thinks that Wilson gave Kendrick information on him, as he allegedly sent the journalist a rat emoji when he inquired about his then-unreleased diss track, “Family Matters.” Was this a troll or an accusation?

Perhaps we’ll never really know. Regardless, both Kendrick Lamar and Drake are popping out these days, whether it’s at Adonis’ soccer game in this IG post’s case or at the Compton College class of 2024’s commencement ceremony. We’ll see what happens as they continue to navigate the aftermath of the battle and reflect on what happened. Will Drizzy ever let up on the subliminals or on his perceived victory, one that most fans seem to disagree with? At least he’s still a fan of his film references and wordplay.

Drake Allegedly Thinks Elliot Wilson Gave Kendrick Lamar Information On Him

During his recent appearance on The Joe Budden Podcast, Elliott Wilson made some very interesting claims concerning his relationship with Drake. Moreover, you ‘re probably up to speed on The Boy’s beef with Kendrick Lamar, whose most recent development was a Drizzy IG post defending his OVO crew. Throughout this whole process, Wilson was there to report on it and give his thoughts, as well as try to stay up to date with what was going to happen in the battle. Apparently, he reached out to the Toronto superstar to ask when he would drop “Family Matters,” which allegedly elicited an ominous response.

Furthermore, according to Elliott Wilson’s claims, Drake sent him a rat emoji in his answer to that question, insinuating that he thinks Wilson gave Kendrick Lamar information about him and his camp. The media personality had denied these claims previously. However, the explanation behind this is still a bit unclear, as Aubrey Graham could’ve been suggesting that Wilson wanted to leak this information to K.Dot instead of insinuating that he already gave him dirt. Considering the journalist’s other qualms with the “Virginia Beach” artist and how he allegedly blacklisted him from Toronto, take this with a grain of salt. But it’s clear that the OVO mogul is very distrusting of the media these days, and of anyone outside of his immediate circle.

Elliott Wilson’s Rat Emoji Claims About Drake & The Kendrick Lamar Beef

Of course, this is all for good reason, as both Drake and Kendrick Lamar probably got a little more than what they bargained for as a result of their beef. But in Elliott Wilson’s mind, there’s a clear winner despite both MCs being worthy of strong praise for their efforts. After all, he ranked “Not Like Us” as the third best diss track of all time recently, higher than any other song released as a result of their beef. Whether it’s bias or facts in your opinion, there’s definitely a debate there.

Meanwhile, we wonder if the alleged rift between Drake and Elliott Wilson will ever patch up. If these new allegations are true, then we know that Kendrick Lamar probably won’t be the one to cause a proverbial burial of the hatchet. Also, this poses some interesting questions for how rappers generally handle and navigate their media relationships. Rap beef is a very competitive affair, and one in which people can pick sides and indulge in paranoid fantasies without even realizing it.

Mustard Will Join Kendrick Lamar For “Pop Out” Show With Friends

“Not Like Us” is going to ring off with particular hype at Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming “Pop Out” show in Los Angeles on Juneteenth. Moreover, a big part of this is that Mustard recently announced that he will be in attendance at the concert at The Forum, which is an expected but still exciting first announced guest. We don’t know whether other folks that will make it to the “Ken & Friends” event will announce their participation beforehand or if it will mostly be a surprise. Either way, fans can’t wait to catch this live and feel the built-up energy from this Drake beef that this performance will take to a boiling point.

Furthermore, if you’re not in Los Angeles, no worries: there will be a livestream of Kendrick Lamar’s “Pop Out” event via Amazon Prime and Twitch. As such, you can still see Mustard spin “Not Like Us,” and we’d guess that this is going to be a really fun moment for the song’s producer. After all, this is his most high-profile collaboration in a while, and the chance to celebrate the song’s achievements on a special holiday in his home city is a very heartening development. We can’t help but wonder what other friends will make an appearance…

Mustard Will “Pop Out” For Kendrick Lamar Show

Meanwhile, Mustard has some big moves of his own to look forward to very soon, including his recently announced upcoming new album Faith Of A Mustard Seed. With just a single track, it’s already been a massive year for him so far, so to see this full-length return in such a grandiose way is a very exciting move for 2024. Overall, there are a whole lot of reasons to be excited for this “Pop Out” show from Kendrick Lamar. But folks like ScHoolboy Q think that this represents something bigger for the West Coast this year, as it’s been one heck of a run for the region in the past few months.

“Heard it. sH*t go dumb. LA bout to do it again… LA up tHis year,” ScHoolboy Q tweeted about the new Mustard album, adding onto the hype around his own LP Blue Lips, the new Vince Staples album Dark Times, and so much more. Kendrick Lamar Surprises Compton College Graduates With A Speech In First Post-Drake Beef Appearance

Kendrick Lamar is really taking the concept of “The Pop Out” pretty far, especially for his home city of Compton, Los Angeles. Not only will he perform at The Forum in L.A. on Juneteenth for a special show with friends, but he also appeared at Compton College’s 2024 commencement ceremony on Friday (June 7) and gave the graduating class an inspiring speech. For those unaware, this college is a public community university founded in 1927, and yesterday, it was home to the former TDE MC’s first public appearance in not just months but since his Drake beef went down earlier this year. Below, you can find a small excerpt of the speech.

“Here is not only a representation of the world, but it’s a representation of me,” Kendrick Lamar remarked. “And when I walk out in these cities and these countries, I could be proud and say, this is where I’m from. I still believe in Compton. Compton always been a future for me. I think we breed some of the most incredible individuals, creators, intellectuals, talent. We had it since day one. That’s why I always screamed this City. I traveled the world. It’s no place like this one right here. No place, no place. And I still believe, I still believe in everything that we doing. Brick by brick.”

K.Dot Speaks To 2024 Compton College Graduates

But don’t fret if you’re not in Los Angeles to celebrate these moments, as you can catch a livestream of the “Pop Out” show via Amazon Prime and Twitch. A lot of Kendrick Lamar fans wish that they could be there in the heat of it all, but there are plenty of chances for the world to connect with these appearances. You can find the full livestream of the commencement ceremony below. K.Dot’s speech begins around the 41-minute mark.

Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar recently got some business offers from Dame Dash, so who knows if he’ll build up his portfolio with a Roc-A-Fella purchase? He might just pour that back into Compton, a city that we know he’ll continue to rep and support regardless of his global status. The 36-year-old gave these graduates a very meaningful and unique moment to remember that very few out there could even speak to. It’s heartening to see, especially as the emphasis is on love, community, and perseverance after such a nasty beef.

Kendrick Lamar Keeps His No. 2 Spot On The Billboard Hot 100 With “Not Like Us”

Kendrick Lamar apparently still has playlists, dance floors, song queues, and airplay going wild over his final Drake diss, “Not Like Us.” Moreover, it kept its number two placement on the Billboard Hot 100 for the third week in a row after debuting at number one four weeks ago. This time around, the chart-topping track is once again Post Malone and Morgan Wallen’s “I Had Some Help,” which topped the Hot 100 (and dethroned the West Coast banger) for the third week in a row. Other notable returning cuts on the chart this week are Tommy Richman’s “MILLION DOLLAR BABY,” Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” and Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso.”

Furthermore, this comes amid rumors propelled by Terrace Martin, plus some other unconfirmed speculation, that Kendrick Lamar is “locked in.” A lot of folks obviously took this to mean that he’s working on new music with Martin and others in the studio, and die-hard fans are hoping that this could mean an album is on the way. Whether or not that’s true is a mystery, and it dangerously invokes the five-year wait and hype before 2022’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. Will we have to wait until 2027 or is this beef scandal the perfect moment to strike?

Kendrick Lamar Stays Top 2 On The Billboard Hot 100 For Four Consecutive Weeks

Surely, we’ll learn in due time, but it would certainly make sense numbers-wise for Kendrick Lamar to seize the day. After all, he’s not only out-streaming Drake when comparing their diss tracks against each other, but creeped up on his general listenership numbers on Spotify as well. Of course, this doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme, and anyone who thinks they can take The Boy down commercially will dream forever. Also, some fans think that it would be a corny move on K.Dot’s part to drop something, since it would indicate that this beef either intentionally or unintentionally rolled out the red carpet for it.

But who are we to assume and speculate when the only thing Kendrick Lamar’s done in 2024 is drop music and not make any more statements? Still, even if there’s no new music for a while, people still have plenty to talk about when it comes to his previous material -– and that of his family. An alleged reference track by the Compton lyricist for Baby Keem’s “BULLIES” recently surfaced, once again opening up a debate about ghostwriters, reference tracks, writing for other artists, and whether this is a condemnable offense. But ironically enough, Billboard suggests that no matter what conversations people are having, they’re still bumping “Not Like Us.”

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Inspires Stripper To Crip-Walk Onstage In Viral Clip

Kendrick Lamar continues his dominance with “Not Like Us,” as the Drake diss has apparently even inspired strippers to work it in their routine. Moreover, a clip recently went viral of a dancer crip-walking to the track, which some fans joked about angering the gutter-minded folks in attendance who were throwing dollar bills before. Either way, you can hear the crowd react pretty excitedly to the moves, which is certainly one of the more creative tributes to the song to pop up this week. In fact, we can’t help but wonder whether or not this is a national phenomenon or if this is an isolated incident.

Jokes aside, Kendrick Lamar got a lot of commercial love (and even more critical acclaim) for his slew of Drake disses, and so did the Toronto superstar. Now that the battle is in the rearview mirror, it will be very interesting to see how their artistries and careers evolve from here, if at all. Maybe they will get right back to business as usual for them (as Drizzy proved with his recent Sexyy Red feature) or we’ll only see the fruits of this labor down the line. One thing’s for sure: this feud will still be a major talking point for the rest of 2024.

However, while no one really knows what’s next, there is a lot of hope for the best case scenario. Drake is always dropping material, so fans are looking forward to his next moves all the time. But Kendrick Lamar is a more elusive figure, one that took five years to follow up his biggest commercial success. As such, rumors that he’s “locked in” on new music is very exciting for fans, but there’s no telling whether this will further the beef.

Hopefully it doesn’t, as it would be a tad corny to build up your next album by dissing Drake and beating that dead horse even further. But when it comes to him and Kendrick Lamar, who’s to say? There are even folks who think that they should let bygones be bygones and work together again. What’s more likely: another “Poetic Justice,” a Kendrick album within the next three years, or a dancer strutting their stuff to a PDF-file-alleging banger?
