Jeannie Mai Wants To “Find Her Voice” While Reckoning With Jeezy Divorce

Jeezy and Jeannie Mai’s divorce is one of pop culture’s biggest stories right now, and it was before they even said anything about it. In the weeks since that news broke, the two have spoken, albeit briefly in the rapper’s case, about their split after two years of marriage. Moreover, the television personality has been much more vocal about her feelings and thought process throughout all this. For example, she recently stopped by The Talk on Friday (October 20) to discuss what’s going through her head these days and what her next steps are. Furthermore, the former The Real co-host expressed wishes to define herself more individually in the aftermath of this breakup.

“We know it’s a difficult time for you right now…the weight of divorce is heavy, how are you doing right now?” asked the program’s co-host Akbar Gbaja-Biamila. “You know, I’m focused on healing,” Jeannie Mai responded concerning her divorce from Jeezy. “I had to really turn off all my digital devices over the past few weeks to just really get that silence, so I could just feel my feelings, you know. I have learned I have to be mine before I am anyone else’s. So I’m really working on finding my voice.”

[It] comes with a heavy heart,” he remarked to TMZ. “Despite this, my love and respect for Jeannie remains. The time we spent together holds a cherished place in my heart. Our beautiful daughter is the best gift from our relationship. I am committed to assuring she feels the love and stability she deserves.”

Jeezy Speaks On Depression Journey, Says He Went Years Without Knowing He Had It

Jeezy has long been vocal about his mental health struggles, especially in the lead-up to the release of his new memoir, Adversity For Sale. Moreover, he recently appeared on The Tamron Hall Show on Monday (October 16) to speak on the book and his battle with depression. In fact, The Snowman recalled how he didn’t even know he was suffering from the condition for almost a decade. Eventually, he came to reckon with his state of mind, and it’s resulted in a lot of reflection. Most importantly, though, the rapper seems more prepared and committed than ever to help others along his journey, and become an example of its negative effects but also of every individual’s strength to overcome it.

“I learned that vulnerability is power,” Jeezy remarked on the television program. “I thought something was wrong with me. Thinking I come from poverty, this is just how it is. I didn’t understand trauma and all these different things. So when I started to get the words for it, I started to understand and grab tools, [and] I started to become better.

Jeezy Opens Up About Not Knowing He Had Depression For Years

“I started my journey and that’s why I’m expressing it and putting it in the book,” Jeezy continued. “Because I didn’t know I was depressed for like eight years of my life straight. You wake up and you just want to go back to sleep forever, you know? And I was leaning into my vices. And that’s what street life does to you. You know what I’m saying? When you lose 200, 300, 400 people like gone forever, you just get numb. And I wasn’t able to get in touch with my emotions and I was wondering why. Thank God for my kids, but there was a time I was just cold. That’s when I was Young Jeezy.”

Meanwhile, the Atlanta MC recalled a scary brush with suicidal thoughts during an interview with PEOPLE in August of this year. “I remember standing there and saying to myself, ‘Man, if you go back home and you don’t figure this out,’” he expressed. “Because I don’t want to end up like my friends. My friends became junkies and they were getting killed and all these things. ‘No, bro. You gonna have to man up. Here’s Why Gucci Mane & T.I. Had Beef

When Gucci Mane chose Breath Of Fresh Air as the title for his newly released album, he meant it. The 24-track double-album features several artists, such as 21 Savage, Lil Baby, J. Cole, Roddy Ricch, and the late Young Dolph, but T.I.’s surprise appearance at the Gucci Mane & Friends concert at Atlanta’s The Tabernacle on Tuesday (October 17) was, in some ways, more notable.

As seen in videos circulated by longtime hip-hop journalist and Rap Radar host Elliott Wilson, Gucci Mane teed up Tip’s appearance as doing “something special for the city” and showing everyone that their beef is firmly behind them. T.I. performed “24’s.” At one point, Gucci Mane and T.I. verbalized their respect for each other and sealed it with an on-stage dap.

In the wake of this feel-good moment, outlets such as HipHopDX and Vibe retraced the origins of Gucci Mane’s now-squashed beef with T.I. Most everyone agrees that it started in 2012 because T.I. aligned with Jeezy, another long-standing rival of Gucci Mane’s. Then, in April 2018, T.I. took to Instagram to dispute Gucci Mane’s claim about inventing trap music.

“Ok,so…. AGAIN for the slow ones in the back…,” T.I. captioned a screenshot of the Wikipedia page for his 2003 Trap Muzik album. “August 19th,2003 Birth of Trap Muzik & Only fools dispute facts!!! FOH wit that Christopher Columbus ass… ‘Look what I discovered,even though they was already here’ ass sh*t!!!! WITCHO GOOD CAPPIN ASS”

“A source close to the situation tells TMZ Hip Hop both superstars have long moved past their previous round of diss exchanges from years ago,” TMZ relayed on Wednesday (October 18). “They both were co-headliners for the recent Legendz Of The Streetz tour and mended the fences, which didn’t take much doing.”

TMZ’s reported timeline matches up with T.I. naming Gucci Mane and Jeezy to his Mount Rushmore of trap music with AllHipHop in August. Not to mention, in July 2020, T.I. and Jeezy expressed their desire to call a truce with Gucci Mane for the sake of trap music.

News of Jeezy and Jeannie Mai’s divorce was a shock to many online, and has been a whirlwind to follow. Moreover, amid a lot of reported updates, reactions, and the like, there’s been little to say of either party’s individual remarks on it. However, we now know that Mai, at least, apparently stayed off the Internet for a while to focus on herself and get away from the noise. Recently, on Wednesday (October 11), the former The Real co-host took to Instagram to shed light on her silence, which was her first post since their split made its way to media headlines. In her post, a hand-written note read “Sometimes, you need to take a break and disconnect, to heal,” and captioned it with a black heart emoji.

Furthermore, Jeannie Mai’s break from online apps is incredibly understandable, considering all the gossip circulating around their split. A lot of speculation and “close source reports” tainted the news, and that’s not even considering how much people are weighing in on it in their own personal lives. It’s been several days since news of Jeannie Mai and Jeezy’s divorce first broke, but still, the internet has plenty to say about the situation. The mother of one has been under attack for seemingly fetishizing Black men in a resurfaced clip, and social media sleuths haven’t had trouble finding other evidence of trouble brewing for her and her ex. According to Entertainment Tonight, sources have revealed that the reason for the pair’s split has to do with their values.

“They had different views, and each felt like their needs weren’t being completely met,” an insider dished to the outlet, specifically citing “family expectations” as a driving factor in the divorce.
