Jamie Foxx is back with yet another project. Despite being taken out of action with a medical emergency in April, Foxx has been getting plenty of screentime. In the past two months, we’ve seen the veteran actor in They Cloned Tyrone and Strays. However, his next project, The Burial, will highlight Foxx in a whole new light. For this project, we get to see Jamie Foxx as a wise-cracking, smooth-talking lawyer in the 1990s.
Set in 1995, The Burial follows the case of Jeremiah “Jerry” O’Keefe, a WW2 fighter ace and beloved funeral home magnate in Mississippi. After being swindled out of his business by the Canadian funeral megacorp, the Loewen Group. Finally in a fight he doesn’t think he can win, O’Keefe retains the services of slick and successful personal injury lawyer Willie E. Gary. Gary must contend with a hotshot attorney representing Loewen as well as his own perceptions of what the case is actually about. The Burial will premiere at TIFF on September 11 and get a full release on Prime Video on October 6.

Foxx, who plays Willie E. Gary, is just one of several big names in this heavy-hitter legal drama. O’Keefe is played by Tommy Lee Jones, who is making his first film appearance since 2020. Meanwhile, Gary’s legal opposition is played by Jurnee Smollett. Furthermore, other recognizable faces include Mamoudou Athie (Archive 81) and Bill Camp.
Additionally, The Burial is one of eight projects that Foxx reportedly has in the works. While many of those projects are on hold due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, a few could be coming out in the next few months. Foxx is slated to play God in Not Another Church Movie, which is reportedly in post-production. Additionally, there is another legal biopic Signal Hill. Reportedly in post-production, it stars Anthony Mackie as civil rights lawyer Johnny Cochran, best known for leading OJ Simpson’s legal team. Foxx reportedly plays Black Panthers leader Elmer ‘Geronimo’ Pratt.

Previously, Jamie Foxx shared another update on his health. Sharing a collection of photos in a white tee, with a knit bucket and holding red crocs, Foxx let fans know -he was in an “unexpected dark journey.”

Jamie Foxx enjoyed a beach vacation with his girlfriend, Alyce Huckstepp, in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for Labor Day weekend. According to photos obtained by Page Six, the two appeared to be going strong following Foxx’s medical emergency, earlier this year.
In various photos, the two rocked matching outfits and enjoyed some PDA and hand-holding. It’s unclear exactly how long Foxx and Huckstepp have been together, but they were spotted on a trip to Cannes in May 2022. At the time, they were getting intimate on a luxury yacht on the French Riviera.

The vacation comes after Foxx recently opened up about the mysterious medical emergency that hospitalized him back in April. In an emotional video posted to his Instagram account in July, he explained why he kept his fans in the dark regarding his health. “I went through something that I thought I would never ever go through and I know a lot of people were waiting or wanting to hear updates but to be honest with you I just didn’t want you to see me like that man,” he said at the time. “I want you to see me laughing, having a good time, partying, cracking a joke, doing a movie, television show, I didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through.”
Cabo isn’t the first public appearance Foxx has made since getting out of the hospital. He also attended the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Miami while partying alongside Meek Mill and LeBron James. As for his acting career, Foxx recently appeared in the films God is a Bullet and They Cloned Tyrone and stars in the upcoming movie, The Burial.

Jamie Foxx reportedly has eight film projects in production as he continues to recover from his April health scare. Of course, many of these productions will be dependent on the length of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. However, at least one of the films could be out later this year. “He is still doing some outpatient rehab and working on his health, but he feels the busier he is the better — he doesn’t want to spend too long resting,” a source told the Daily Mail earlier this week.
So what are these nine projects that Foxx is working on? At least one of them is likely Back In Action, the action-comedy co-starring Cameron Diaz that Foxx was filming at the time of his collapse. The film reportedly continued filming using rewrites and body doubles but updates on the project have been sparse since then. However, any sort of work on the film ended when the strikes got underway a little over 100 days ago. However, the Mail did discuss a few of the other projects that could be on Foxx’s slate.

The one Jamie Foxx project that could be out this year is Not Another Church Movie. The cast includes Mickey Rourke and Vivica A. Fox and sees Rourke and Foxx battle it out as the Devil and God respectively. There is also the biopic The Burial, in which Foxx is expected to play real New York lawyer Willie E. Gary. He stars in that alongside Tommy Lee Jones. Additionally, there is another legal biopic Signal Hill. Reportedly in post-production, it stars Anthony Mackie as civil rights lawyer Johnny Cochran, best known for leading OJ Simpson’s legal team. Aside from those films, Foxx has several more projects with more unknown statuses. Tin Soldiers sees Foxx play a man who runs an outreach program for military veterans which quickly becomes sinister. Meanwhile, Foxx is reportedly doing voice work for Groove Tails, which focuses on a competitive street dancing circuit for mice. Furthermore, Foxx is linked to a remake of the 1968 western The Wild Bunch alongside Michael Fassbender and Peter Dinklage. Finally, Foxx is also linked to a TV series about the career of Mike Tyson. However, that remains in limbo as Tyson has objected to the casting of Foxx. Additionally, the Mail lists a ninth project – All-Star Weekend. However, that film was wrapped in 2016 and was officially shelved in 2022 over concerns about offensive content in the film.

Jamie Foxx has headed south of the border, jetting off on vacation in the beautiful Mexican city of Tulum. Tulum is a pre-Mayan walled city with beautiful beaches, amazing history, and world-famous swimming holes. Foxx was spotted enjoying said swimming holes in photos published by various online outlets.
The vacation comes just five months after the actor was suddenly hospitalized in April while on the set of his upcoming Netflix film, Back In Action. It was the latest in a long series of issues that had hampered production. Furthermore, the coverage of Foxx’s hospitalization was a mess, with Foxx seemingly both on the verge of death and recovering well. After many conflicting reports about his status, his daughter revealed in mid-May that he had been out of the hospital for several weeks.

It’s the latest positive update from the star, who was also recently seen playing pickleball with some star opponents. Foxx was seen getting into some doubles action. Also taking part in the workout were NFL agent Ryan Sherry, director Taylor Chien, and Olympic beach volleyball player Casey Patterson. It appeared to be quite a lively match, with Patterson posting a video of a particularly nasty shot from Foxx. A beautiful spinning drop-shot, Foxx’s effort was basically impossible to return. “That Jamie Foxx spin will get ya,” Patterson captioned the video.
