Jamie Foxx Has Eight Projects In Production As Recovery Continues

Jamie Foxx reportedly has eight film projects in production as he continues to recover from his April health scare. Of course, many of these productions will be dependent on the length of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. However, at least one of the films could be out later this year. “He is still doing some outpatient rehab and working on his health, but he feels the busier he is the better — he doesn’t want to spend too long resting,” a source told the Daily Mail earlier this week.

So what are these nine projects that Foxx is working on? At least one of them is likely Back In Action, the action-comedy co-starring Cameron Diaz that Foxx was filming at the time of his collapse. The film reportedly continued filming using rewrites and body doubles but updates on the project have been sparse since then. However, any sort of work on the film ended when the strikes got underway a little over 100 days ago. However, the Mail did discuss a few of the other projects that could be on Foxx’s slate.

Jamie Foxx’s Upcoming Projects, Revealed

The one Jamie Foxx project that could be out this year is Not Another Church Movie. The cast includes Mickey Rourke and Vivica A. Fox and sees Rourke and Foxx battle it out as the Devil and God respectively. There is also the biopic The Burial, in which Foxx is expected to play real New York lawyer Willie E. Gary. He stars in that alongside Tommy Lee Jones. Additionally, there is another legal biopic Signal Hill. Reportedly in post-production, it stars Anthony Mackie as civil rights lawyer Johnny Cochran, best known for leading OJ Simpson’s legal team. Foxx reportedly plays Black Panthers leader Elmer ‘Geronimo’ Pratt.

Aside from those films, Foxx has several more projects with more unknown statuses. Tin Soldiers sees Foxx play a man who runs an outreach program for military veterans which quickly becomes sinister. Meanwhile, Foxx is reportedly doing voice work for Groove Tails, which focuses on a competitive street dancing circuit for mice. Furthermore, Foxx is linked to a remake of the 1968 western The Wild Bunch alongside Michael Fassbender and Peter Dinklage. Finally, Foxx is also linked to a TV series about the career of Mike Tyson. However, that remains in limbo as Tyson has objected to the casting of Foxx. Additionally, the Mail lists a ninth project – All-Star Weekend. However, that film was wrapped in 2016 and was officially shelved in 2022 over concerns about offensive content in the film.

The Weeknd & Jenna Ortega Wrap Filming On Forthcoming Movie: Report

It’s been a busy few months for The Weeknd, or Abel Tesfaye, as prefers to go by these days. At this time, the Canadian is preparing for the highly anticipated premiere of his HBO series, The Idol, in which he stars alongside Lily-Rose Depp. Telling the story of a young pop star (played by the model) influenced to lean into her wild side by a manipulative guru (portrayed by the singer), the controversial, super raunchy series has already faced criticism from Rolling Stone. Still, that’s not stopping Tesfaye from moving forward with confidence.

Aside from that project, the “Starboy” hitmaker has also been venturing further into the world of film. After pleasing fans with his appearance in the Safdie brother’s Uncut Gems alongside Adam Sandler and Julia Fox, he co-wrote the script for another movie which he’s also producing and starring in. The news first broke at the end of February, at which time Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) and Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of Inisherin) were announced as co-stars.

The Weeknd is Keeping Busy

Penning the script alongside Tesfaye were Reza Fahim, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss. Updates surrounding the project have been minimal since the first announcement, however, on Monday (May 15), it was reported that the shooting has already wrapped on the untitled film. Further updates, such as storylines and a release date still remain unknown but are sure to arrive online in the coming weeks as post-production unfolds.

It’s been a huge few years for 20-year-old Jenna Ortega, who not only captivated audiences with her work in Netflix’s You and Wednesday but also made waves as a new face in the Scream franchise. Apart from those roles, you may also recognize her from X, The Fallout, or Jane the Virgin. The budding starlet previously spoke about her experience working with Tesfaye in March, calling him “genuinely such a sweetheart,” as ET Canada reports. What do you think the plot of The Weeknd’s upcoming movie will be about? Leave your theories in the comments, and tap back in with HNHH later for more pop culture news updates.

Dreamville Announces “Creed III” Soundtrack

When both music and movie fans can rejoice, those moments can make for some of the best in a year for pop culture. While many teased and spoke about this crossover, its confirmation is setting those high expectations up. Dreamville just announced their soundtrack for Creed III, the next franchise installment. Moreover, the film is directed by and starring Michael B. Jordan, who previously teased the team-up. “I’m probably gonna get in trouble,” he expressed at ComplexCon. “Dreamville is executive producing this album.” Now, after that insider scoop, the dominant hip-hop label confirmed their big moment.

While Jordan’s likely over the moon about the crossover, it didn’t stop acting and directing at the same time to be difficult for him. “It’s torture, but at the same time, it’s so much fun,” he told Collider in an interview. “It was the challenge of accomplishing it all, with the multitasking nature of developing the story, trying to stay in shape, and giving all the departments what they individually needed, to go do their job.” However, maybe one of the many hats he wore was also making sure this soundtrack felt right. While no one from either camp has yet commented on it at length, some of Dreamville’s camp hyped up its Instagram reveal in its comments. For example, Bas commented a punching emoji, while Morray posted two fire emojis.

Still, the soundtrack will likely fit well when paired with the on-and-off-screen themes of perseverance and dedication. “It’s really hard to put into words,” the director and actor shared. “Every day was a struggle, but honestly, it was the team of people that I had around me that got me through it. You’ve really gotta surround yourself with the right help, so that you can focus on the things you need to focus on. Sometimes that’s doing two things at one time, or three things at one time. It’s just part of the job.

“Once you step behind the camera,” he continued, “the undertaking that it is, from the outside looking in, it’s tough.” However, through that hard work and passion, we’re probably getting something very special soon from these creatives.
