Halle Bailey’s 007-Inspired Halloween Costume Channeled Her Inner Super Spy — And Her Namesake

The Halloween costumes have been pretty good so far this year. The stars are reaching into their genre bag, with Megan Thee Stallion’s Teen Titans costume earning the approval of DC Studios CEO James Gunn, and Halle Bailey channeling her namesake in her 007-inspired costume.

Halle posted photos of her simple but inspired costume on Twitter, showing off the iconic orange bikini and white knife belt of infamous Bond girl Jinx, from Die Another Die, as portrayed by Halle Berry (who Bailey sometimes gets mistaken for). The costume hails from Jinx’s second appearance in the film and one of its most recognizable scenes, when the NSA agent emerges from the ocean in the striking swimsuit — an homage to a prior Bond girl, Honey Ryder (portrayed by Ursula Andress) from the first 007 film, Dr. No.

Halle Berry is turning out to be a favorite of Gen Z stars’ 2024 Halloween costumes, as South African singer Tyla and rapper Coi Leray also donned costume sfrom the actress’ oeuvre, albeit much earlier in her filmography. Tyla went with an homage to Berry’s Flintstones character, Sharon Stone (ha), while Coi opted for Berry’s take on Catwoman from the oft-maligned (yet, somehow, much beloved) camp classic and favorite celebrity Halloween costume.

Kanye West Flexes New Metal Teeth Inspired By James Bond Character Jaws

It’s no secret that Kanye West enjoys trying out new looks on the regular. Recently, however, he really went the extra mile to emulate a fictional character with a set of metal teeth. The Chicago-born performer hopped on Instagram earlier today to share a photo of his shiny new smile, complete with two apparent fangs. The selfie arrived alongside a screenshot of a Google search for the character that inspired the look, Jaws. The assassin was played by Richard Kiel in the James Bond films The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker.

To complement the metal teeth, Ye rocked a string of pearls and what appeared to be a simple black t-shirt. Lately, when he hasn’t been showing off his bold looks alongside his wife Bianca Censori, the hitmaker has been working on his new album with Ty Dolla Sign, Vultures. Unfortunately, the project has seen various delays since it was first announced, most recently getting pushed back yet another month.

Kanye West Shows Off His Assasin-Inspired Smile

Vultures is now expected to drop on February 9, 2024, according to iTunes. He’s also filed a new trademark recently, pointing at even more exciting things in the near future. He filed one for the phrase “I MISS YOU WHEN I WAKE UP BEFORE YOU,” inspired by his recent heartfelt birthday posts for Censori. In the trademark documents, Ye listed various goods and services that would be provided under the trademark, which mostly had to do with interior design or logo design.

Interestingly enough, however, he also listed “Cloud seeding,” “Graphoanalysis,” “exploration services in the field of the oil, gas and mining industries,” and “biological cloning.” Clearly, Ye has big plans. What do you think of Kanye West showing off his new set of metal teeth? What about him taking inspiration from the character Jaws from the James Bond films? Is he pulling them off, or not? Idris Elba Explains Why He’s Not Interested In Playing James Bond

Playing James Bond is considered one of the most prestigious roles in Hollywood. Just seven actors have played the iconic British spy since he was brought to the big screen in 1962. When each Bond retires, there is a wave of speculation on who might play him next. Given his veteran presence in the acting world, Idris Elba has not been immune to this speculation.

After Daniel Craig made it clear that he was done with Bond after SPECTRE, Elba’s name was one of several seen as a serious contender to fill the role. While Craig would return for No Time To Die, Elba was still viewed as a favorite to take up the mantle in the future. However, in a new interview with the SmartLess podcast, Elba has explained why he’s no longer interested in playing 007.

Racism Steered Elba Away From Bond

Elba was initially excited about the speculation. “The truth is, I was super complimented for a long time about this,” Elba admitted. “I was like, ‘This is cr*zy!’ James Bond…We’re all actors and we understand that role. It’s one of those coveted [roles]. Being asked to be James Bond was like, ‘Ok, you’ve sort of reached the pinnacle’. That’s one of those things the whole world has a vote in.” However, the subsequent racist backlash inevitably moved Elba away from playing the character. “Essentially, it was a huge compliment that every corner of the world except from some corners, which we will not talk about, were really happy about the idea that I could be considered,” Elba explained.

“Those that weren’t happy about the idea made the whole thing disgusting and off-putting, because it became about race. It became about nonsense and I got the brunt of it.” Elba’s views were somewhat validated by the latest Bond film to date, No Time To Die. The film, which featured Lashana Lynch as an MI6 agent who is briefly assigned the 007 moniker, received considerable backlash from those same people about making James Bond a black woman (which the film doesn’t do in the slightest).

Idris Elba Says Race Conversation Around ‘James Bond’ Role Was ‘Off-Putting’

Idris Elba Add Fuel to James Bond Rumors With Cryptic Tweet

For so long, Idris Elba was rumored and requested by fans to be the next James Bond. That ship has sailed, and now, Elba is revealing why he was against the idea of being 007.

Speaking on the SmartLess podcast, Idris Elba revealed once the talk of the role got race-based, he was turned off by the idea.

“I was super complimented for a long time about this,” Elba said. “I was like, ‘This is crazy!’ James Bond…We’re all actors and we understand that role. It’s one of those coveted [roles].”

He added, “Essentially, it was a huge compliment that every corner of the world except from some corners, which we will not talk about, were really happy about the idea that I could be considered. Those that weren’t happy about the idea made the whole thing disgusting and off-putting, because it became about race. It became about nonsense and I got the brunt of it.”

Instagram Post Teases Possible New James Bond

The James Bond films have been in production since 1962. Starting with Dr. No, the spy series has been a staple of cinema for over 60 years. Just six men have played the eponymous spy across the series, making it one of the most prestigious and sought-after film roles.

Daniel Craig was the most recent, and arguably most recognizable, actor to hold the role. The British actor, also known for Layer Cake and Knives Out, began his Bond stint in 2006’s Casino Royale. Unlike other iterations of Bond, Craig’s tenure followed an overarching plotline. Craig would star in four more Bond films after Casino Royale, closing out his run in 2021’s No Time To Die. The role, and future of the franchise, have laid dormant ever since. Names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Idris Elba have been thrown around in recent years. However, a new post on Instagram has fans excited about who could be taking up the 007 mantle.

The Name’s Madden, Richard Madden

Richard Madden became known to mainstream audiences as the stoic leader of the north Robb Stark in Game Of Thrones. After leaving Game Of Thrones, Madden appeared in a variety of well-received dramas. He played Elton John’s former partner John Reid in Rocketman. He also led the British thriller Bodyguard. Most recently, he has starred in the lead of Prime Video’s spy thriller Citadel.

That brings us to the video posted to Instagram by Madden’s Citadel co-star Stanley Tucci. The video shows the pair enjoying martinis. Now, as James Bond fans know, is a “Vesper Martini”. That’s ‘Three measures of Gordon’s, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it’s ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon-peel.” according to the 1953 book Casino Royale. And would you look at that, lemon peel in the martinis being drunk by Tucci and Madden. This has been widely taken as a soft announcement that Madden will be taking on the mantle in the near future. Liam Neeson Rejected James Bond Role Because Of His Wife

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Liam Neeson revealed that producer Barbara Broccoli reached out to him numerous times in the 1990s. Apparently, she wanted to know if he was interested in playing the role of 007. That’s right, Liam Neeson was almost James Bond. Neeson had recently been nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars for Schindler’s List. Many were surprised to find out that Neeson turned down the opportunity to play such an iconic action star. However, for him, the final decision came down to his wife, Natasha Richardson.

When asked about the role of 007, Neeson said “I know the Broccolis. They looked at a bunch of actors. ‘Schindler’s List’ had come out and Barbara [Broccoli] had called me a couple of times to ask if I was interested, and I said, ‘Yes, I would be interested.’ And then my lovely wife [Natasha Richardson], God rest her soul, said to me while we were shooting ‘Nell’ down in the Carolinas, ‘Liam, I want to tell you something: If you play James Bond, we’re not getting married.’”

Neeson added that “She gave me a James Bond ultimatum. And she meant it! Come on, there’s all those gorgeous girls in various countries getting into bed and getting out of bed. I’m sure a lot of her decision-making was based on that!” Apparently, Neeson’s love for Richardson was stronger than his desire to play the iconic action star. Therefore, he never had a serious meeting with Broccoli. However, Neeson loved to tease Broccoli about the situation. He would do so by “going behind her back, making my fingers as though I’m holding a gun, and [humming the James Bond theme].” He said he “loved doing that shit!”

Thankfully, Neeson got a second chance at further stardom with the Taken movie franchise. He was also in the Star Wars franchise as Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. However, that is not a franchise he is interested in returning to. He recently said on Watch What Happens Live! that he wouldn’t return. “There’s so many spinoffs of ‘Star Wars.’” he said. “It’s diluting it to me, and it’s taken away the mystery and the magic in a weird way.” Watch Neeson’s most recent performance in the film Marlowe now playing in theaters.

James Bond Role Might Go To Lucien Laviscount Of “Emily In Paris” Fame: Report

Talk of which actor will next play James Bond has been circulating across the internet in recent years. Of course, Idris Elba may be the man for the job. Now, though, a younger actor is entering the chat – Lucien Laviscount.

You may be familiar with the 30-year-old for his work on Netflix’s Emily in Paris series. He plays the love interest of lead actress Lily Collins onscreen, Alfie for the last two seasons. His effortless ability to charm audiences as an elegant heartthrob is said to be what caught the eye of 007 producers.

An insider tells Daily Mail, “Lucien ticks all of the boxes. He is a super talented actor, is extremely handsome and in the past 18 months has won lots of new fans since he joined ‘Emily in Paris.’”

“Bond bosses are already saying how you can see him in the 007 tuxedo, how dapper and fitting to the role he will look,” they additionally noted.

While the reviews sound mostly positive, executives reportedly have their concerns as well. In 2011, Laviscount appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, which some producers consider “low-brow stuff not fitting of a Bond actor.” However, the overall opinion of him remains high.

According to TMZ, stunt testing for the next Bond film is being greenlit at Pinewood Studios. If so, a final decision regarding the titular role’s casting is likely to come out soon.

Daniel Craig concluded his time as 007 with 2021’s No Time to Die. Before his five-film run, which began with Casino Royale, Piers Brosnan was the dapper spy in a suit.

The longest gap between films came from the transition of the aforementioned actors, spanning four years. Other James Bond stars, such as Sean Connery, Roger Moore, and Timothy Dalton, had no more than a year or two between takeovers.

Do you think Lucien Laviscount makes a strong 007 contender? Sound off in the comments, and check back later for more pop culture news.
