Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear Explained His Friendship With Jack Harlow At The Kentucky Derby

Jack Harlow is Louisville through and through. Around the April 28 release of Jackman, his third LP, Harlow set his “They Don’t Love It” video in his hometown and launched the Kentucky-centric Jack Harlow Foundation.

Harlow was a fixture at last year’s Kentucky Derby. Just like this year, he was fresh off an album release, Come Home The Kids Miss You, and he filmed the video to his and Drake’s “Churchill Downs” during a glamorous day at Churchill Downs. People are still talking about Harlow getting carried across the track:

Today, May 6, Harlow is back to enjoy the 149th Kentucky Derby. He reportedly walked the red carpet and declined to do any press.

However, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear used the Derby red carpet to gush over Harlow and why the two have become unlikely friends, according to Matthew Glowicki of the Courier-Journal:

“Jack and I have become friends. What I love about him is he could live anywhere in the country right now — he’s on the top of the world — and he chose to move back. He chose Kentucky. He chose Louisville,” Beshear said. “He’s here, and it’s thrilling. I, of course, thought our friendship was a closely held secret, and then I woke up one morning and a song apparently put it out there.”

The presumption is that Harlow references Governor Beshear on his Jackman track “It Can’t Be” when he raps about “havin’ dinner in Frankfort with Andy.” (Frankfort is Kentucky’s capital city.)

Harlow got into the Derby spirit at the Barnstable Brown Gala on Friday, May 5. According to People, Harlow “arrived to plenty of screams from his hometown fans, as he posed for selfies and even signed a few items while surrounded by police officers.”

There’s no argument that Jack Harlow is the people’s champ. From hits with Drake, and viral vids with Druski, to dropping a surprise album, Jack’s a made man. Since dropping his album (without any notice) Jackman, Jack Harlow has been busy at work. Additionally, the project is 10 tracks with no features and essentially catches Jack bringing it back to the basics. So much so that it’s even felt in the album cover.

The simplistic cover features a shirtless Jack Harlow standing in an empty background next to a crappy-looking garage. However, the shoddy garage has now become famous, garnering many visitors. Fans have come all over to the Louisville Highland neighborhood to get a peek at the now-famous garage. Not only that, even non-fans have strolled over to take a gander and the new landmark. Unfortunately, they didn’t come with the best intentions.

Jack Harlow’s Garage Has Been Defaced

According to The Courier-Journal, since the album dropped, it’s brought a ton of new sightseers to Louisville. However, it’s also drawn a few unwanted visitors as well. “The now-famous garage featured on Jack Harlow’s new album has brought hundreds of sightseers to an alley in Louisville’s Highlands neighborhood. But now it’s drawn graffiti, too,” stated the publication. Additionally, they mentioned that, “The word ‘Crips’ was written in blue paint on the garage featured on the cover of the Jackman album.” It’s unfortunate to see all the buzz from Jack Harlow’s album attract such negativity.

In other news, Jack Harlow has been working to give back to the place that made him. The Louisville rapper recently started a new foundation. Moreover, he announced it as The Jack Harlow Foundation. In a statement, he said, “The launch of my foundation is represented by gifts to four organizations that I believe are doing the work of making Louisville a better place.” Harlow added that each organization does an amazing job helping underserved communities, thwarting obstacles to higher education, and more. Jack Harlow Launches His Own Foundation

Jack Harlow wants to give back to the community that raised him. Today, the rapper announced The Jack Harlow Foundation. This comes fresh off of the surprise release of his third studio album, Jackman, last week. He also released a video for the lead single, “They Don’t Love It.” The album is expected to debut at No. 6 on the Billboard 200. According to Chart Data, Jackman looks on track to sell 40,000 equivalent units in its first week.

Given his success, it’s hard to imagine a world where Jack Harlow received pushback from those in power. However, DJ Drama revealed that Harlow faced resistance from the label when he first signed with them. “When I first met Jack I felt his ambition, his want to be one of the ones,” Drama said in an interview. “I remember even from the label they were like, ‘Eh, white rapper?’ And I’m like, ‘Look, it’s not 2001. We’ve had plenty of examples of successful white rappers since Eminem. It can exist in the culture.’” It’s a good think they took a chance on him because Harlow has become a hit making machine.

Jack Harlow has revealed his philanthropic side by announcing the creation of The Jack Harlow Foundation. The charity aims to give back to Harlow’s hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. The foundation will provide support to organizations that work towards improving the city where he grew up. Harlow announced the launch of the foundation with a press release on May 3. In it, he says that the initiative began with donations to four local organizations. “The launch of my foundation is represented by gifts to 4 organizations that I believe are doing the work of making Louisville a better place,” he said. Jack Harlow stripped back down to the basics for his album Jackman, which he released without much notice last Friday, April 28 — 10 tracks, no features, and simplistic cover art featuring a shirtless Harlow standing in an empty background and by a shoddy garage.

DJ Drama has always been someone that’s ahead of the curve. Let’s be honest it was his studio that got raided over mixtapes, dude is a music pioneer through and through. DJ Drama Peeped The Vision

While he admitted he “hit the jackpot” when asked about signing the I Just Wanna Rock star. However, he said the same thing could be said about Jack. DJ Drama told the podcast, “When I first met Jack, I felt his, you know, ambition.” He said he could feel the rappers “want to be of the ones.” Albeit the label gave Dram pushback due to him being White, however, the mixtape DJ had other plans. “Look, it’s not 2001, we’ve had plenty of examples of successful White rappers since Eminem,” he told the outlet. “It can it exist in the culture,” DJ Drama continued.

The Gangsta Grillz front man made it clear that it all came down to Jack Harlow being a dope artist who makes incredible music. Not only that, Drama liked how comfortable Harlow was in his own skin within the culture. “He was never trying to be something he wasn’t,” DJ Drama said. Later in the interview, Drama attested that when he believes in his artists, he’s willing to take every chance and go against the grain. “It’s about a lot of people telling you no, or not seeing the vision, and you turning them into believers,” he told the outlet (no truer words could be said). The Jackman album was announced just days before it dropped, released as a concise 10-track no, features effort. The album is now staring at a top-five debut, projecting to hit at No. 2.

According to a New York Times reporter, Harlow allegedly mouthed “I’m on shrooms” to press at the event who tried to speak with him. Even though he showed up on the red carpet, he didn’t talk to many media people there (except apparently Emma Chamberlain, who hosted for Vogue). During their conversation, he reportedly came across as completely coherent.

Furthermore, this is made even odder by the fact that the 25-year-old has been a big advocate for sobriety in recent years. As such, many fans can’t believe that Jack Harlow was actually on shrooms for the event. In addition, he has a lot of things to promote and talk about at the moment, so why would he not want to talk to press about it? According To One Reporter, Jack Harlow Allegedly Told The Press At The Met Gala: ‘I’m On Shrooms,’ To Avoid Interviews

Jack Harlow is riding high off the release of his new album Jackman. However, one reporter is alleging that the “They Don’t Love It” rapper’s elevated state isn’t just figurative.

On Monday, May 1, Harlow slipped into his best Tommy Hilfiger threads to attend fashion’s biggest night, the annual Met Gala. Although he didn’t hit the red carpet to show off his look for the evening, he didn’t stop to speak with many of the media correspondents. With a new film, the reboot of White Men Can’t Jump, slated to drop soon and a new album out, fans were curious as to why the entertainer would capitalize on the attention.

However, New York Times reporter Jessica Testa claimed that despite reporters’ attempts “to get Jack Harlow to stop on the carpet. He pointed at his forehead and mouthed: ‘I’m on shrooms.’”

Harlow did stop take a moment reunite with Emma Chamberlain, who was doing hosting work for Vogue. Although the exchange was brief, Harlow seemed perfectly coherent.

Harlow’s lack of desire to speak with the press could instead be related to his latest claim in his words, “being the best white rapper since Eminem,” which created quite the frenzy online.
